    Spot on, thanks! I prefer moving my music files to the secondary source manually and just doing a backup and restore of the database. That way, it only has to add the files it doesn't already have. Much faster than backing them up through rekordbox. That's provided I haven't deleted files from the primary source, if I have then the secondary source needs the music files deleted and re-added from the primary before restoring the database on the secondary.

      i would like to do the same thing! i have my music stored on an external ssd organized in folder named as same as the playlist in rekorbox and each folder contain the mp3 files of the songs of each playlist ovviously. Now i just want to create the database backup as done in the video. My question is: when i restore the library and the database what i have to do exactly? i just have to recreate manually the playlist in rekorbox then drag and drop the files in every playlist and then click on file>library> restore library and then select the database file so magically rekorbox will import all the info (hot cues, memory and beat grid)? and the database file contain even the infos about the tracks'order for each playlist? sorry for the long text but i really need someone to explain me this sorry to bother you!

      @Legion972 4 місяці тому +1

      @@djandrewblossom This seems overly complex to maintain playlists in this way. I'm not sure why you'd want to make playlists to match your folder structure, because if you look in the lower left hand corner in Rekordbox, you'll see Explorer, from which you can access your files from the folders directly. So if you just want to access your music in the same type of structure as you have them saved on your computer, you could save the effort of creating those playlists by just accessing them through Explorer. I mostly use playlists to show the order I want to use songs in a mix. But to answer your question, if you create your playlists on your primary source and do the backup, then restore the backup to your secondary source, all the metadata will then be identical on the secondary source. That includes all your playlists, ordering of songs in your playlists, beat grid, hot cues, everything. I hope that answers your question? Good luck on your musical journey!

    • @djandrewblossom
      @djandrewblossom 4 місяці тому

      @@Legion972 thanks for the answer! yes the thing about the folder that i've made exactly as the playlist is just to be sure that in a worst case scenario i have the possibility to import even manually the playlist if the database is not available for somehow. anyway yes you helped me a lot thank you so much! Good luck on your musical journey too!

    Hey Chris, You lost me at 3:13, assuming the computer crashed and you lost everything, how is there going to be anything to "restore" considering the computer crashed or has been "reset" after a repair?

    • @ReallyChrisM
      @ReallyChrisM  Рік тому

      In order to restore you need to have done a backup. As the video mentions it's a pretty good idea to store this on an external drive or in the cloud so if your computer dies it doesn't take the backup with it. Hope that helps!

    I’d have liked to see more on backing up music to an external drive. Like, will it keep all the cue points as well? And how do you upload your files back into rekordbox if you need to?

    • @ReallyChrisM
      @ReallyChrisM  2 роки тому +1

      The rekordbox database is the thing that contains the cue points etc, so just backing up the music files themselves will not retain this. If you chose the option to back up the files as well, then RB will restore everything. Hope that helps :)

    Question...If I wanted to change my external HD for a more stable one to store my music, would I just copy the music to the new HD and then tell Rekordbox to look in the new folder on the new HD to find the files. its good they just need to add one more option to upload and not change the location or file structure associated with each file, when i use drop box it changes all the locations of my tracks to the Dropbox upload location which makes duplicates basically and missing files randomly it needs to be looked at and this should be a simple fix idk why it hasn't been made yet its possibly a Dropbox issue more than a RB software issue or it might be both, but when V6 RB came out i had to do a clean sweep of my whole library due to the fact RB changed the analyze tracks to add vocals and now I'm worried about this new 7.0.7 precision beatgrid setting it will happen again. I don't want to keep redoing the analyze process over n over again either it takes months to make sure its all updated with the Cloud etc...

      Hi!
      Have you find a solution for this? I’m going through this nightmare and I’m not sure now to move from here?
      I store my full library on the external drive. I still have my files on there and if I press “no” to that error I can still preview the tracks within the software. But I do wanna get rid of this issue.
      I was right about to buy a new SSD for external backup as my music it’s only on that drive for storage purposes.
      Also since I moved the database to that external from the preferences,I can’t see any Pioneer folder in there. Which I learnt it’s hidden in the ~Library folder on a Mac.

    Hey great explanation. However, I still have big issue with History. It does not save tracks, just creates empty playlist with the dates. I play with controller and laptop, more than 60 secs. I'm using an external drive, because I can just go between my laptop and desktop PC. So I keep the music files on this external drive organised in folders by genres and subgenres. The database also on this external SSD. But since March 2022. On the 3rd of March I got the tracks in history, but nothing from the 6th of March, it's empty. I checked the last saved tracks and they are still at the same location on my external drive. I tried to run rekordbox as administrator but did not help. Do you please have any idea?

    In a nutshell I just got my computer updated/wiped as it was mega slow. The comp guy said "we will back all your music up and everything on your hard drive". Turns out I can't find any of my music, it was just downloaded from amazon or wherever so I assume in downloads. That is now empty.
    Panic not, I thought ah well never mind i'd downloaded all that to rekordbox no drama i'll just log in there and all be there with hot cues and playlists as normal.
    I log into Rekordbox and its all gone. Not one song. What has happened here? I'm so confused wouldn't the music, playlists and hot cues just be there as normal?

      Sorry to hear that!
      Rekordbox doesn't store any music itself when you drag it in. It just references the files on your computer. If those go, RB wont be able to play anything.
      The only way around this is to have a RB backup which *also* contains the music files themselves as mentioned in the video.
      If the techies didn't do this backup within RB first and wiped the entire computer then unfortunately it sounds like everything is gone 😔

    I keep my entire library AND database on an external ssd so it's always ready for gigs (I don't use CDJs so I don't need to format a a drive). I had a sata ssd but switched to an nvme for slimmer form factor. There aren't really noticeable performance gains as USB is the bottleneck. This makes backups even easier as I can take rekordbox out of the equation and make incremental backups of that external drive with something like Duplicati. If my external drive dies or gets corrupted, all I need to do is restore the database and music files to a new (or reformatted) drive. Because the database AND music files are in one place, all I do is go to File>Preferences>Advanced>Database Management>Select the new drive in the dropdown, hit OK on the pop up and WAIT. DO NOT click the >> button to the right and hit move database. The UI is confusing. This will copy the empty library on your computer to the drive you selected essentially wiping the backup you just restored.
