What about your crates?? How would you sync crates over multiple laptops?
I use this very same method as explained in the video. However, I also like to keep tabs of when I download a song, so I add the name of the month I downloaded a file. In tandem with file usually already having the release year (file source dependent), I’m able to pinpoint which files have been sitting on my drives not being played. I can search those files down using “smart crate” rules, year, comment (contains month name), and plays (5-10 times or less). Essentially files I’ve had since a certain month and year taking up drive space. After the smart crate find said files, I pick which ones should be deleted or played more (half the time if I like the song I just increase the play count so it doesn’t appear as something to possibly delete later).
Sweet! Gotta love the ID3 tags!
Thank you for watching as always!
Not sure about the Apple side of things, but, if you have a Windows PC, Synctoy is amazing. It's offline based, so your music or personal files ain't in the cloud, but I sync my 110GB (FLAC music library) to 5 PC's which takes less than 4 minutes, after the initial syncing of that device.
Kinda gonna work out expensive overtime if you got a large DJ Library though.
You be better off storing them on your Home network/NAS and just using software to auto sync your DJ folder between all your devices that way your not paying a Dropbox Cloud subscription each month. Hate subscriptions :)
A NAS is a good solution but may be too complicated for non tech savvy DJs. Also NASs can have issues if the drive you use fails or if your internet connection at your home/office going offline you will not be able to access your files.
@@PDot I disagree. I have a Synology NAS. My music library is sync-ed with two laptops and an external HDD. It is actually easier than dropbox and you don't need internet when you use the NAS within your home network.
@@Willempopeye I'm interested in your idea. Are you willing to help me setup get set up?
If you add the folder with Serato in it to Drop box it should automatically add it Serato on the other computer without having to re add the songs to it.
Do you still have to add the new tracks/ playlists to the rekordbox on the back up laptop? Or does that sync also?
it syncs
did you have to move your _serato_ and music folders into the "Dropbox" folder?
I just moved the music folder. Not the Serato folder.
@@PDot So, let's say that you had to start your crates from scratch? Or were you able to link the library (creates) to the new location of the songs? Tnks!
Hi mate.good video.i have done this setup ,but how about cue points and any other changes😀
Great video bro, very informative. Do you have to have the pro version of dropbox? I can not locate preferences???
*My GOAL is 1st Gettin my new 2021 M1 Mac to duplicate in my old 2012 MacBook Pro? Then keep then synced and updated simultaneously. How do I do That? Can You Help?
Do you think this would work with iCloud and between Windows 10 and MacOS?
It might, I have not tried with other cloud services so I am not certain.
Many thanks Bro! I’m going to try this out!!
How do I synch two external drives? I have a 2T laptop that ran out of space. I want to move my folders to two external drives. I already have one drive for backups. Any ideas? Thank you!
There are multiple ways to do it depending on what DJ software you are running. I would make sure you look specifically on how to make a backup clone based on your DJ software.
does dropbox can be use without internet and access on all your music on serato offline
Dropbox will sync locally. You can also do something similar with One Drive or Google Drive (installed locally) assuming you have enough space on any cloud service to back up what you need to.
Thanks for the tutorial! I have a question. Basically I have rekordbox on my macbook and on my window PC , the USB sticks are formatted on FAT32. Can I use it on both devices without having to format them differently or MS-DOS will do ? (The case is I travel a lot, the main database is in my window PC but i need to update my library on the go - with the Macbook )
Please help me, thanks a lot!!!
USB sticks need to be formatted for FAT32 to work with Rekordbox. Even if you are just using a Mac, the sticks have to be formatted for FAT32. Hope that helps!
@@PDot so i can use both in between Windows and Mac as long as the usb stick is formated in FAT32 ?
@@tmckid23 yes you can
@@PDot thanks a lot!! I was so worried about using two separate databases will cause me problems
Do i have to sync serato and serato _backup folder as well?
Hey Bro I have a question i backed up all my music in dropbox but when i open serato it gives me a sign thats corrupt and i can't play all my music in serato.
how to have this working with beatsource track , get the same cue points loops between 2 computers?
Mac does not offer updates and drivers for Google drive for my late 2012
I like to have both laptops on and running serato at my gigs. Have you you ran into any issues with this? IE making different cue points on each laptop while serato is running on both? Will both changes stay, or is their some type of hierarchy on the save upon shutdown?
Bro! I just figured this out using Google drive the other day....my next mission is trying to figure out how to get my crates inside serato to sync. Like if I created a new crate on laptop A and I want it to automatically show up on laptop B....any ideas on how to make that work? Thanks for all that you do for our community 🙏
I used to use Google Drive for this a while back but found out that the sync was very slow because at the time they didn't support incremental updates. Has that changed or the speed doesn't affect your use case? Thanks
Which macbook case are you using?
Hey! Thanks for the video. What do you think about iCloud? Why DropBox? What were your choice criteria?
I went with Dropbox because of the integration with the app and the pricing.
@@PDot Got it. Thanks!
Doesn’t the dropbox app add storage to your internal hd ?
What do you mean by add storage?
@@PDot if u have the app on your laptop does it take from your internal laptops storage ?
@@djxcel23 if you use “selective sync” it does not take anymore space on your computer than the files you want to share. That’s why in the video that’s why I selected only the music folders to sync.
How did you added the music into dropbox, am still new to the dropbox thing. Love this method, cos I being trying how to add my music from my PC to the macbook pro and I think this method would work perfectly. Love to see how you setup the music into dropbox so could have it my PC as a backup. Also I have been adding new music to serato dj pr on the macbook pro but how do I add them to my pc would dropbox work even if the music is in serato folder?
Move your music folders into the Dropbox folder on your computer after you’ve installed the Dropbox app on your computers. Then make sure you’ve selected those folders to sync on both of your computers.
@@PDot ??
this is how i do it as well for rekordbox... i haven't turned on cloud sync on yet. i'm worried that its gonna break stuff or confuse rekordbox!
Hello Pdot, great video. I dj with serato dj pro with an external hard drive with my macbook pro late 2013 15" retina and it is also where my music folder is located on the external hard drive. Can dropbox work the same if i only use my external hard drive?
With an external you can have it sync with your Dropbox but it might not work the exact same way.
Would that be also applicable for rekordbox ?
and is your music on the laptop or in the cloud? So you can gig offline with it ?
excellent info...once again brah!!!
Thank you for watching!
Great video
thank you so much
Excellent Hack
It’s helped me never have to worry if something happens to my main computer.
so painfull. no one does a solution to dj's who use an external drive and moves to a new computer!
what?
What can I help you with?
