Congratulations on the video, Pulse. You saved me! When I needed to transfer the entire library from Mac to Win, I took days to create the points and hotkeys all over again. Thank God, I found this video just as I was able to buy my Mac, but I was already crying about having to do it all over again. I did the procedure yesterday and recognized absolutely EVERYTHING! Great Video from 7 years ago, some updated may have had happened since then with rekordbox but the main concept of how to move database from one computer to another very very helpful as one of my laptop crashed so I wanted to make a smooth transfer from external hard drive to a new laptop and sync everything as it was on the old laptop and this video was very helpful. Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated
One extra important note when going from Windows to Mac: The external drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 (NTFS is not recognized on Mac in Rekordbox)
This is a great point! Even working from one PC to another it's recommended to pre-format the transfer device to FAT32. I had a bunch of minor errors working on mine so I imagine it's just a good habit to get into from the start.
HFS+ or otherwise MAC OS extended journaled may be better. It is supported and supposedly faster. The only set back is that this format can only be used on MAC and not on PC.
Hi moved the database to my external LaCie HD,but I can’t see any Pioneer folder that I learnt when you have your database set on the local drive,it’s hidden in ~Library folder. Any solution to this? I’m currently hanging the “corrupted library” issue and I’m looking for solutions to eventually safely restore my collections and tags/playlists.
Wow massive thanks for making this video my MacBook is almost dead and was wondering how I transfer my record box liberty to my new mac and watching this got a much better understanding what to do now.😝🤜
What if your collection is organised in multiple (a lot!) subfolders? Do you need to relocate the files for each seperate folder or can this be done in one go?
@Tom > Provided you move all the subfolders in the same way (eg. you move X:\Music\Folder1 and X:\Music\Folder2 to X:\NewMusic\Folder1 and X:\NewMusic\Folder2 -- they both have the same parent folder in both cases), they can all be relocated with ease. Otherwise you will have to relocate in batches, which is not impossible, just time consuming.
This looks like the way to do it! No I get how transferring works with RecordBox. Thanks in advance Pulse, awesome video. Will try it out asap since I got a new computer. Really feel you guys who had to, just like me before, redo all the hot cues all over again. That truly is a hassle!. The best, Felix Persson AKA FLX (Sweden)
How does this work, if you have - of course - multiple folders and subfolders? I can't just send my collection to a single new folder then obviously. Would i have to it folder by folder then? Thanks in advance :)
finally a solution that works. My main macbook has RB v6 and the secondary had v5. Had to update to v6 because it wouldn't do a restore with the v6 backups..just a note.
This video saved my ass. I had a move my database from one user profile on mac os that had issues and was corrupt, and move it to another profile on the same mac. I tried to do it with the pioneer folder is Library and application support folders, but was not successful. your method worked like a charm using an external as an intermediary since you cannot use the move to move on the same internal drive.
Quick tip while exporting ! If you press ctrl - cmd 5 times whilst holding f6 $250 appears in your bank account - just leave bank details below if your stuck on this ;-) Thanks Pulse great vid
When i a single song i can select relocate, but when I select multiple at once I don't have the option. Any solutions for this? Edit: Nvm, some songs that weren't in the same folder (and therefore not lost) were also selected.
Hey Pulse, I followed all the steps in your video, but Rekordbox doesn't recognize all my songs. A lot are still missing/not relocated. Maybe it's because I got my music stored by genre in different folders. For example: Music/DJ Music/House Music/DJ Music/Hip Hop Etc. Do you got an sollution? Because now I lost more than half of my music and it will take me a lot of time to relocate every song manually. I hope to hear from you soon, because I have to play on saturday hehe :) Cheers, David
Re: the first message, if it doesn't recognize your songs, you either didn't follow the steps properly or the drive name / letter is different on the destination computer and thus didn't match up properly. Re: your second message, yes, everything should be gone from your original computer - you've moved the database (and possibly also the music) to an external drive or to the other computer. If you want to load them on the first one again, connect your external drive and open that database in the preferences.
Is there a method to run your library on an external hard drive? Want to move everything to an external drive as quickly running out of space on my mac! Thanks for any info on this guys!
Simple process to follow, but I am hitting a wall when I move my database to another computer. Rekordbox does not seem to relocate the music files. I already set up the auto-relocate folder with all my music on it. It's on the same directory as my database on a ssd. I want to use my main desktop for prepping music and playlists then transfer my ssd to my laptop when I'm ready to go to a gig. So far, I've tried this process over 3-4x. RB just does not want to locate the files even though I set the folder in Preferences. The music was in sub-folders, but I moved them all to one folder so it should make it easier to find. I'm at the point where I'm thinking of just subscribing to their AT/Pioneer's Cloud/Dropbox service just to keep my 2 computers in sync. Do I have to keep all the files on my internal desktop ssd instead of just the external ssd?
Hi, thanks for the upload ! I was wondering if there is a way to have two seperate back ups of rekordbox database? e.g. my rekordbox database is not saved when I backed up my library onto a harddrive. (is there a way to have two seperate saved rekordbox databases 1 for my mac and 1 in my hard drive) Thanks in advance
I want to ask you what about the playlists that i created , it will be the same if i format the PC !? However i move the databas to External drive , and i back up the library !? But what about the playlists i created !?
I have recently shifted my entire library from my desktop to an external hard drive and for some reason, some tracks are not being imported as a playlist to rekordbox!! Can someone please help?
Thx for this! Just when you have made multiple folders it does not doing it at once… it take some Time To relocate each folder map… ps came here because my mac updated to ventura 😫
Hello, i have 1 Macbook Pro which is 'the master' and i use one as a 'backup computer'. I always take two laptops with me because i play a lot of weddings and i don't want to spoil their big day. How can i easily keep my 'backup computer updated? Is this the way or should i just use a third party sync program? Thanks in advance.
You can, but I don't recommend it - it will work best if you use a symlink or any other method to make it look as if it's a locally mounted drive rather than a network path.
Hello Pulse, I kindly would like to ask a question. I want to COPY my collection to another laptop (windows to windows) and that includes all my tags, hot cues and comments for each track. How can I do this? Many thanks
New user here. I'm placing all of my music from a flash drive to an external hard drive. My PC is only letting me relocate one track at a time. When I select all of my tracks, the "relocate" option doesn't appear. HELP!
anyone else find that when you have selected all songs in a playlist the relocate button does not appear? (aka only when a single song is selected can it be relocated) Need help fixing this!!
Rekordbox DJ on Multiple Macs with Nexus/DDJ RZ Setups & External Drive Hey Pulse.Until recently I've been using Rekordbox on my home Mac keeping my music in iTunes and exporting analysed files with Cue Points etc. to USB memory sticks for use with CDJ/DJM Nexus systems. I have recently acquired a DDJ RZ Controller with an additional MacBook Pro and external thunderbolt drive (MDOS formatted). This means I am now running Rekordbox DJ on 2 Macs (one with master iTunes Library were all my Rekordbox analysis &edits are done, and one portable for moving Rekorbox DJ around with my DDJ RZ). Clearly I have to move my Rekordbox data onto the external drive for use with the 2 systems. Please can you advise on the best procedure for doing this given the above scenario - suggestions on file structure on the external drive taking into account the DDJ RX Sample Files etc. would also be appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any advice you can give. Cheers, Sean
+Sean Illumashroom > I would first move your iTunes music media location to that external drive, and be sure to tell iTunes you DO NOT want it to manage the music location! Next, open rekordbox and relocate (if any show as missing). Then, put the database on the external, as outlined in the video, and now you can move it between the two computers without issue.
+Pulse Pioneer DJ Thanks for the reply. Am I right in thinking you are suggesting moving media file onto the external drive? This may be problematic for me as i's not just my DJ music, it's my entire collection! At the moment I'm saving my Rekordbox music and data to the external drive from the primary Mac with the iTunes library on (via Rekordbox File menu, with Database management set to the external drive), then moving it to my other Mac where Rekordbox is also set to Database management on the external drive. I then load the last backup from the external drive. Everything seems to work okay, but I've noticed that the music then appears in my iTunes media file (although not in iTunes itself). Am I setting myself up for a problem working like this? Please give me any advice you think is relevant. Cheers, Sean
I'm travelling on saturday and would like to work with rekordbox on my laptop even though my master database is on my desktop computer. I only want to work with certain songs, can I somehow export those tracks/playlists and then set cue points and hot cue's on my laptop and then reload them into my desktop or do I have to export everything?
Ok I've done 80% of it but I'm struggling with the final step. Whenever I try to 're-locate' my music files, it only automatically recognises a very small percentage of them. Now on the rest of the songs, I go to relocate them but I have to do them individually. It does not give me the option to auto relocate. I believe it might have to do with the naming convention as for some reason the names of my music files in the new computer have numbers before them. Am I able to contact you directly? Thanks
Can i move the database to my actual new pc but keep the music on the external hard drive? This is because my newer pc has a smaller hard drive size and i want to keep it as free as i can.
pulse I have a question, when I move database from the old laptop to the new one, will the playlist that I made on the rekordbox on old laptop will show up on the new one ? or only the songs and hot cue will show on the collection ( new laptop ) and I have to make playlist on the new laptop ? thank you
Hi Pulse! All my music is stored in my external harddrive but i just bought a cloud service to have a save copy of it but i was wondering how to copy/export my whole library to the cloud and also sync it so every change i made to my library is also made to the library on my cloud, is there a way to create a copy keeping all my cue points, etc.? thanks
Thanks for creating this video! I've been putting this off for a long time, so you've motivated me to make the move. Do you know if it is possible to "Move Database" from an older version (3.0.3) of Rekordbox to newer one (4.5) on my new Mac? I couldn't find a "Move Database" option in Rekordbox 3.0.3, but I did find a "Backup Library" option under File > Library > Backup Library. Would this be the same? Or would I need to update to 3.3? I really want to avoid updating my whole Mac OS on my old Mac (I'm on 10.6.8 and happily stable) just to install Rekordbox version 4 as this is a big reason I bought a new computer anyway. Thanks a lot!
If you're moving from 3.x to 4.x on a new computer, I'd recommend using the File > Library > Backup Library function, then on the new computer running 4.5, use File > Library > Restore Library and that will bring it all forward and updated. You may need to re-analyse in order to add key and updated waveforms, but the memory points and hot cues will remain.
I want to ask a question here, yesterday I wanted to drag only 1 track into a playlist but instead a whole selection went into that playlist and now its analysing all those tracks in to that playlist. Is there a way to ‘force’ stop this because everytime I open recordbox it keep. continuing...
Yes, but it depends on your hardware on how you configure the recording setup. Setting the location is simply a matter of changing the recording directory in the preferences.
can you play that music on the cdj ? like can you browse your entire database on the CDJ ? i want to migrate my music to an external drive and use that drive as a USB thumb i have a lot of playlistls and i want to be able to browse my tracks easier thats why im asking
No; the master database can't be played on the CDJ, you need to create an export database by exporting selected songs / playlists. The nice thing is if your music source is already a USB device, you don't need to physically export the songs themselves, the export database is created and the songs on that drive are linked within the database.
If we move our database to a new computer with its own Rekordbox app, how will we also make sure the hot cues, playlists and everything for the songs are imported?
You're best to use the built-in Backup / Restore function, this is just an alternative and was actually created as instructions prior to rekordbox including a functional service to do that.
@@DeejayPulse thank you for your swift response! Does that mean that moving the music library to an external source is not moving the additional settings since these are still unique to this computer's Rekordbox using this method? The method you showed seemed to only move the music library, which is not the same as moving the entire database. Hot cues, playlists etc. are probably still unique to this computer's Rekordbox, right?
Hey, thank you for the video. I import my songs directly to the USB device in rekordbox. Is there a way to synchronize data and songs with another USB?
Pulse Pioneer DJ no...what i do usually is this..i plug my usb..i import songs to the device in rekordbox that analyses the track the by itself export the data back to same device..and i end by having all songs on the usb device. My issue is that i want to back up my first usb with another one..so the first idea is to copy all files from the 1st usb to the 2nd one..but the issue is when i update the 1st usb..i will have to copy everything again😅 so i am asking if there is a way to sync both usb together or if there is any other way to do it. Sorry for the long msg😅
What's the difference between going through this procedure and going file -> library -> backup on one computer then file ->library -> restore on the new one?
I'm going to make a recommendation on a faster fix to what I just went through over the last 8 hours or so. If you're transferring onto say a new computer and your music is in a ton of different folders on your old computer; after you export the database onto the external drive, hook it up to the new computer, copy and paste the PIONEER folder onto the drive you wish to use on the new computer. Then from inside of rekordbox pull the database from that location. Then plug the external drive back into the original computer and move the database from the drive back to it's original place. This will give you the database info on both of the computers. I rerouted the destinations on about 1,000 tracks before I realized I was undoing the routes of the other computer by doing it off of the one database.
hey, great video... can you do a video on the new RB 6.3 xml export? i got both 5.8 and 6.3 on my laptop. ive been updating my library on Rb 6.3. i want the same exact copy on my RB 5.8. looking forward to it. thank you!
Hi, thank very much you helped a lot. I have a question. Is it possible to copy the database and don't move. Because I need it to be the same in two computers.
Yeah, but you're better off having a database that you can keep updated between the two computers. As soon as you back it up on one machine and restore it on the other, you've split the database and can never merge the two.
is there anyway to recover a master database after clicking no the tag synced. Yesterday I was attempting to change the location of the path to my flashdrive and though clicking move database was the answer. Then when I plugged in that same USB today all of my playlists were gone and I was confused since I hadn't done that before. now when I plugged in my Usb its on "MacHD" and I'm wondering how I can recover it?? I didn't know so I started uploading some tracks to the library and re synced my USB to that. HOW can I go back to how my Rekordbox was a few days ago??? thanks in advance
Hi I hope maybe you can help me been trying a while. I had all my playlists on my laptop. but during a gig, the win 8 decided to uppdate even though set to not. so finally it crashed and all was deleted. what I have is the playslist on one usb. can i some how get the playlists back into my laptop?
You'd have to do them by batches. When I get this kind of question, I have to ask the user why they made those moves. What is it you changed that wasn't the parent folder(s), that you would have multiple files all moving to different locations so a mass-relocate doesn't work?
I want to have my musics on my Mac and Windows laptop and not on an external hard drive. how can i just export the database from my mac to windows while i keep it untouched on my Mac. I Organise and manage my music and perform on my Mac and I use my Windows laptop as a Backup for the gigs.
You can use the Library > Backup process to make a backup, including your music, to move it to the other computer where you will do a Library > Restore.
So if i have everything in year folders ie 2015, 2016 etc and inside them have jan to dec folders then in each one of them have my genre folders for the month, will it relocate/find all my tracks just from searching for one track?
Right ok, So all this seems very good to me, But what if i wanted 2 identical copys of RB? so one on my mac and one on my iMac? can it be done this way?
Hi! I was wondering if its neccesary to remove the tracks from the internal drive? I've tried reloading the tracks by only deleting one item off of the internal drive and then reloading, but then Rekordbox says it had only found that item and not the others which are still on the internal drive.
No - you can keep them internally if you want but have your database located externally, but to be honest, there isn't much point to that since the database isn't that large but your music files could certainly be.
I have all my music on an external drive, I want to plug that into my external drive but I don't want to reexport them onto a playlist, how can I analyze all my tracks where they are?
If I want to move my account to another computer will I have it with all the settings etc that I've paid for ? Heard that you can only have a premium rekordbox account on one device so presuming I'd have to deactivate it on old computer and somehow transfer my premium account to new Mac. If you know anything about this would be really helpful rather than paying again.
@Stella > rekordbox can be installed on up to 2 computers with the same license. If you are no longer going to use the old computer, better to use the deactivation procedure on the old one first, then activate on the new one. The settings are retained per-computer (in terms of the in-application settings), but all your cue points, etc., can be transferred / moved or copied to another computer by using either the rekordbox database backup procedure, or by moving to an external drive as I outline in this video.
That's two different things -- audio and control, but either way, have you installed the drivers? And if you're using High Sierra or Mojave, did you bypass the driver security? www.pioneerdj.com/-/media/pioneerdj/downloads/other/troubleshooting/troubleshooting_highsierra_003_e.pdf?la=en
Thanks for the great vid. Will this work if i just want to take my database to play on my mate's cpu through rekordbox? Will I be able to select my external database and play from that on his cpu?
Can you do a tutorial for itunes and rekordbox. I'm having an issue getting Rekorbox to find my itunes library files. Even though the song names/files are viewable, they are not loading and I get a loading error. This is after carefully selecting the proper filepath of the itunes xml file but maybe I missed a step somewhere?
@@ThomasAndreasSchmidt I believe I did. I recall that I simply started from scratch. Since it's been a while, I can't find my notes on the solution and I've since moved to Serato. Not that it's any better but I changed hardware which only ran on Serato.
Hi Pulse! i have done a rekordbox backup to restore it on my new laptop (win7 to win10). I restored everything on my new laptop but when i try to export my playlist on my usb appears: "Error During Export" Do you think that following your instructions (Then migrating the database) i could solve this problem??
I have a problem, on my original Mac I don't have a folder with all the music I want to transfer to the external hard drive. Its all over the place and there are many songs I don't want. So what do I do?
Is there a way of doing this so my database is on Dropbox then the 2 computers feed from that? I don't trust having my database on an external drive....
Yet you trust Dropbox? lol Actually yes, I've got a few users testing some instructions right now but if you're interested... follow me and stay tuned!
when i originally try and change the location of the master drive after having followed the steps, the f drive of my sd card doesn't show as an option. Do i have to use an external drive instead of an sd card?
Hey there, I'm currently in the process of moving my rekordbox database from a PC to a mac, but when I get to the "Database management" setting in my preferences and I get the option to "Select a drive" the white space just says "untitled," and the move database button is grayed out. I know my external drive is connected properly as I'm able to access all of the files within it through finder, though Rekordbox isn't recognizing it for whatever reason. Any chance you know how to fix this?
same problem here kind of. but im moving from rekordbox 3.3 on a windows to a newest rekordbox on a windows PC. and i the relocate button isnt there when i click the right mouse button
You should both consider using the File > Library > Backup function instead, then on the other computer use File > Library > Restore. Bypasses any other possible hiccups as well.
Hi Pulse, first up thanks for the video, very helpful so far. I have been trying to transfer between windows to new mac and i follow the process up until 3.54 and then i don't get the message about syncing with tag and when i go to the preferences to select my drive from the mac hd there is no option as its not picking up my external drive. Any ideas on what the issue may be ? Many thanks in advance !
+Jon Paul Montgomery > That's likely it; the NTFS drive will be recognized and can even be used for a music source, but the problem is that OS X can't write to an NTFS drive so it can't use it for the database. Format the drive in FAT32 in OS X first, then export the database from Windows, then import it on the Mac.
I never recommend using iTunes, and the recent move by Apple to change things up within Catalina further reinforces my recommendation. If you have iTunes managing the music, it can move things around, but yes - you could still use this process to move the rekordbox database as all your music would still be in the same place.
Unfortunately no going backwards, the two libraries are not compatible. You may try exporting playlists to a USB and then importing those playlists back in from the USB and adding the contents to the collection, but I haven't tried that myself and can't claim it will work.
hi pulse, thanks for the video. still i have a question. i have used rekordbox together with iTunes until now. in iTunes i only have my music where i dj with. on other locations on my mac i have other music just to listen to. i don't want to use iTunes anymore because every time i start a track of my other music it comes in iTunes and automatically it also comes in my rekordbox. when i want to copy my iTunes tracks to another location on my mac it automatically makes supmabs of the artists. relocation is no problem but when i want rekordbox to find the other location it can't find the new source because of all the sub maps. i hope you understand my problem as i explain? i am trying to include a screenshot but that's not working. regards mario
Yeah, that's a problem with iTunes and how it manages the files / folders. Your best bet is to simply organize all of the music yourself, and either stop using iTunes or disable its ability to manage the music files for you. Once you move all your music into a consolidated location, go through rekordbox manually relocating everything. If you don't have many hot cues, loops, or memory points stored for those tracks, you may consider simply removing all the files from the collection and re-importing them once you've put them into their proper locations on your hard drive.
hi pulse, i have about 3000 tracks all analyses and also categorized by colors etc. so it would be a waste of time to throw that all away. is there a way to migrate all the tracks in rekordbox to an external storage location and when that is done to put it back to another location on my laptop ( without iTunes )? regards mario
@Mix It Mike > When you move your database, everything goes with it - cue points, hot cues, tags... everything. Same if you were to use the Database > Backup // Database > Restore - everything moves with the database.
Thanks for the great video. Not sure what I'm doing wrong tho.. Going from PC to Mac: I've followed the instructions (moved files from PC to external, relocated missing files, then moved Database to external) but when I plug my external into my Mac, Rekordbox does not show a database to move. I've tried 2 different external drives in case one wasn't working properly but still no luck..

Hey Pulse, I followed all the steps in your video, but Rekordbox doesn't recognize all my songs. A lot are still missing/not relocated. Maybe it's because I got my music stored by genre in different folders.
For example:
Music/DJ Music/House
Music/DJ Music/Hip Hop

(is there a way to have two seperate saved rekordbox databases 1 for my mac and 1 in my hard drive)
Thanks in advance
I want to ask you what about the playlists that i created , it will be the same if i format the PC !? However i move the databas to External drive , and i back up the library !? But what about the playlists i created !?
This was ultra-helpful - thanks!
Hi pulse. Question on step by step video.. will also transfer my cue point beat grid and everything else?
Everything. Those are all in the database, so yes.
Thanks man for making this video, it's really helpful! :)
you saved my live! love you
Thankyou, you saved me some headache!
Can the database also be moved via the "backup library" "restore library" options in case of a crash? Or is this method less good?
So this won't transfer any grids and cuepoints?
It certainly will - the database move takes everything but the music.
thank you very much! your tutorial was super helpful
Is it possible to use a home network for the database or does it have to be a locally connected drive?
You can, but I don't recommend it - it will work best if you use a symlink or any other method to make it look as if it's a locally mounted drive rather than a network path.
Hello Pulse,
I kindly would like to ask a question.
I want to COPY my collection to another laptop (windows to windows) and that includes all my tags, hot cues and comments for each track.
How can I do this?
Many thanks
Did u know how? i want to sync it to the cloud without lossing the cue, loops, etc
If I am using my Old internal drive in a caddy and want to move everything to my New internal drive can I just start at 4.50?
Hi Paul. When doing this procedure , form mac to external , from external to pc, does it also copied all the cue points , loops and hot cues?????
Yup - everything.
New user here. I'm placing all of my music from a flash drive to an external hard drive. My PC is only letting me relocate one track at a time. When I select all of my tracks, the "relocate" option doesn't appear. HELP!
@Mønarch THANK YOU SO MUCH!
is this possible with a simple usb? or will it only work for an external drive?
anyone else find that when you have selected all songs in a playlist the relocate button does not appear? (aka only when a single song is selected can it be relocated) Need help fixing this!!
Yes this happen to me
It's at the top track/relocate, select all tracks first. I really don't understand why pioneer has ignored your question. Poor.
Will it even move setting also
Rekordbox DJ on Multiple Macs with Nexus/DDJ RZ Setups & External Drive
Hey Pulse.Until recently I've been using Rekordbox on my home Mac keeping my music in iTunes and exporting analysed files with Cue Points etc. to USB memory sticks for use with CDJ/DJM Nexus systems.
+Sean Illumashroom first line should read "moving iTunes media file" 😉
I'm travelling on saturday and would like to work with rekordbox on my laptop even though my master database is on my desktop computer. I only want to work with certain songs, can I somehow export those tracks/playlists and then set cue points and hot cue's on my laptop and then reload them into my desktop or do I have to export everything?
Hi Pulse Pioneer DJ, Does this transfer also move all Cue points and playlists to the new computer as well? Thanks
Everything.
Yes, but why would you? Keep the database on the external drive and you can move it around as you please!
pulse I have a question, when I move database from the old laptop to the new one, will the playlist that I made on the rekordbox on old laptop will show up on the new one ? or only the songs and hot cue will show on the collection ( new laptop ) and I have to make playlist on the new laptop ? thank you
EVERYTHING lives in the database; playlists, hot cues, memory points, etc. Move that to the new computer and then copy your music over and presto!
Pulse Pioneer DJ alright thank you so much for your information bro
Hi Pulse! All my music is stored in my external harddrive but i just bought a cloud service to have a save copy of it but i was wondering how to copy/export my whole library to the cloud and also sync it so every change i made to my library is also made to the library on my cloud, is there a way to create a copy keeping all my cue points, etc.? thanks
Hey there what if you are using time machine from one Mac to a new one?
Is there a way to ‘force’ stop this because everytime I open recordbox it keep. continuing...
thanks a lot, very helpful
thank you. if i want to record a mix in rek0ordbox straight into my 250gn external harddrive, would that be possible? if yes, would you know how?
Yes, but it depends on your hardware on how you configure the recording setup. Setting the location is simply a matter of changing the recording directory in the preferences.
Does relocating also move your cue points/beat grids over?
Everything; the entire database moves.
Pulse Pioneer DJ awesome! Cheers for that!
and playlists and tags?
Why does the relocate button not show up anymore?
Dawson Keally same!
If you click file and choose option “display all missing files” you can select all and relocate everything
can you play that music on the cdj ? like can you browse your entire database on the CDJ ?
i want to migrate my music to an external drive and use that drive as a USB thumb
i have a lot of playlistls and i want to be able to browse my tracks easier thats why im asking
No; the master database can't be played on the CDJ, you need to create an export database by exporting selected songs / playlists. The nice thing is if your music source is already a USB device, you don't need to physically export the songs themselves, the export database is created and the songs on that drive are linked within the database.
i only have the content folder with the sub folders of every artist is it possible to get my playlists back like it was on a new drive
I'm not sure what you did, post in the forums and we'll help you out.
@@StepwaveMusic No - Library = Database. Both the same, but better on Backup/Restore.
how did you get that express audio dff thing?
That's the "album name" given to those tracks by Promo Only; they're part of their weekly express audio - digital file format delivery.
Also is cloning the stick possible or does it fuck up some bits so it wont work anymore?
No, that will work just fine; you can clone a drive. Just don't copy/paste files though as there are hidden folders that need to be transferred.
Thank u for the video it's great!!
i wantede to ask if there is a way to sync between a Pc and a laptop ?
Sync, not easily - but that will be coming in a future rekordbox update.
Hey, thank you for the video. I import my songs directly to the USB device in rekordbox. Is there a way to synchronize data and songs with another USB?
Do you mean to export to another USB drive? If so, just inset the drive and export to that device the same as you did with the first one.
What if the files you are relocating are all from different files is there a way to relocate all then?
So if i have everything in year folders ie 2015, 2016 etc and inside them have jan to dec folders then in each one of them have my genre folders for the month, will it relocate/find all my tracks just from searching for one track?
i cant move database as its greyed out... please help?
Is the drive you're trying to move to formatted FAT32 or HFS+? exFAT or NTFS aren't recognized.
Right ok, So all this seems very good to me, But what if i wanted 2 identical copys of RB? so one on my mac and one on my iMac? can it be done this way?
I'd suggest you use the Backup / Restore functions to do that. Moving it doesn't make a copy.
Hi pulse I have a big issue with rekordbox I can’t get the audio out to my control xdj-rx
That's two different things -- audio and control, but either way, have you installed the drivers? And if you're using High Sierra or Mojave, did you bypass the driver security? www.pioneerdj.com/-/media/pioneerdj/downloads/other/troubleshooting/troubleshooting_highsierra_003_e.pdf?la=en
Pulse Pioneer DJ thanks for reading my text I in nyc is any way I can contact you by the phone
@@Josecorreadjcorrea Sorry, I don't do phone support, but you can pop in on the forums, that's easier for us to communicate than here on YT.

Do you have Instagram or Facebook so we can contact.
Hi DJ Torch. I have the same issue like you. Did you find a solutions on that?
@@ThomasAndreasSchmidt I believe I did. I recall that I simply started from scratch. Since it's been a while, I can't find my notes on the solution and I've since moved to Serato. Not that it's any better but I changed hardware which only ran on Serato.
Hi Pulse! i have done a rekordbox backup to restore it on my new laptop (win7 to win10).
I restored everything on my new laptop but when i try to export my playlist on my usb appears: "Error During Export"
Do you think that following your instructions (Then migrating the database) i could solve this problem??
I have a problem, on my original Mac I don't have a folder with all the music I want to transfer to the external hard drive. Its all over the place and there are many songs I don't want. So what do I do?
In the "Do you want to copy your music?" step, say "Yes" and remove the songs you don't want later. It will save you massive headaches down the road.
Is there a way of doing this so my database is on Dropbox then the 2 computers feed from that? I don't trust having my database on an external drive....
Yet you trust Dropbox? lol
Actually yes, I've got a few users testing some instructions right now but if you're interested... follow me and stay tuned!
when i originally try and change the location of the master drive after having followed the steps, the f drive of my sd card doesn't show as an option. Do i have to use an external drive instead of an sd card?
Yep - can't use an SD card to host the master database.
Hey I’ve stupidly clicked sync tag with new computer and I’ve lost all my hotcues, I still have my old laptop is there anyway to reverse this?! ☹️🙏
Thanks for the great video

Les hot cues sont-ils enregistrés ou non?
Yep - they go with the database.
@@DeejayPulse Ok thank you
Hi Pulse, first up thanks for the video, very helpful so far.
+Jon Paul Montgomery could it be because my external hd is ntts not fat32 ?
+Jon Paul Montgomery > That's likely it; the NTFS drive will be recognized and can even be used for a music source, but the problem is that OS X can't write to an NTFS drive so it can't use it for the database. Format the drive in FAT32 in OS X first, then export the database from Windows, then import it on the Mac.
If you use itunes but to manage playlists is it the same.
I never recommend using iTunes, and the recent move by Apple to change things up within Catalina further reinforces my recommendation. If you have iTunes managing the music, it can move things around, but yes - you could still use this process to move the rekordbox database as all your music would still be in the same place.
how to make a backup from rb 6 to rb 5? i've updated all my tracks on rb6. now, i want to go back to rb 5 and updater what was there on rb 6 to rb 5
Unfortunately no going backwards, the two libraries are not compatible. You may try exporting playlists to a USB and then importing those playlists back in from the USB and adding the contents to the collection, but I haven't tried that myself and can't claim it will work.
@@DeejayPulse thank you! I'll try and do that!
hi pulse, thanks for the video.
still i have a question. i have used rekordbox together with iTunes until now. in iTunes i only have my music where i dj with. on other locations on my mac i have other music just to listen to. i don't want to use iTunes anymore because every time i start a track of my other music it comes in iTunes and automatically it also comes in my rekordbox.
when i want to copy my iTunes tracks to another location on my mac it automatically makes supmabs of the artists. relocation is no problem but when i want rekordbox to find the other location it can't find the new source because of all the sub maps. i hope you understand my problem as i explain? i am trying to include a screenshot but that's not working.
regards
mario
Yeah, that's a problem with iTunes and how it manages the files / folders. Your best bet is to simply organize all of the music yourself, and either stop using iTunes or disable its ability to manage the music files for you. Once you move all your music into a consolidated location, go through rekordbox manually relocating everything. If you don't have many hot cues, loops, or memory points stored for those tracks, you may consider simply removing all the files from the collection and re-importing them once you've put them into their proper locations on your hard drive.
hi pulse, i have about 3000 tracks all analyses and also categorized by colors etc. so it would be a waste of time to throw that all away. is there a way to migrate all the tracks in rekordbox to an external storage location and when that is done to put it back to another location on my laptop ( without iTunes )? regards mario
rekordbox 5.8.1 doesnt allow relocate of all the files, is there a new way?
"Relocate" isn't an option when right clicking after highlighting all tracks. I'm in 6.6.3 so maybe this has changed?
If you're not right-clicking on a 'missing' song, then you won't have the option to relocate it. You can also try File > Display All Missing Files.
@@DeejayPulse Got it thank you!
This was a great help to move the music files but How do I get my cue points and things over?
@Mix It Mike > When you move your database, everything goes with it - cue points, hot cues, tags... everything. Same if you were to use the Database > Backup // Database > Restore - everything moves with the database.
Thanks for the great video.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong tho.. Going from PC to Mac: I've followed the instructions (moved files from PC to external, relocated missing files, then moved Database to external) but when I plug my external into my Mac, Rekordbox does not show a database to move. I've tried 2 different external drives in case one wasn't working properly but still no luck..
Scratch that.. I just realised its because of the NTFS format. #Noob #Sorry
No worries, simple mistake! Glad you were able to figure it out.
