This was really helpful, thank you! I picked up my first controller yesterday so this has been a big help in opening my eyes as to just how powerful the library function in Rekordbox is.

The tip about intelligent playlist is really helpful and unique one in comparison with other softwares. It gives you the chance to save so much time from music management. All you need is to tag your music with all the info..
Great and very informative video :-) really like the master traffic light feature for finding tracks in similar key (I usually sorted by key) the situation tagging feature is really useful. Big room, terrace, bangers etc. 20 mins well spent thanks again :-) yiu could even create sections with 1 min intro, 2 min outro etc.... ooooh the possibilities 🤣🤣
Your videos is really good, easy to understand them even if I had been a homeDj for some time, just bought my new controller DDJ400 from Pioneer and it feels good.
After coming from virtual DJ which had its own version of the traffic light I was looking for this option in Rekordbox cheers my man you saved me hours.
I decided to switch from Serato to Rekordbox and I am truly happy and motivated to discover the difference this video was very informative thanks so much for sharing the knowledge.
This is fucking genius. Yeah i see those options but never thought of using them. Also you know most importantly i never thought of knowing these. Thanks a ton man. Big salute and lots of love from Dj Haulix(India)
Good tip, Beatport does not always have a track tagged with the correct genres. The reason is that artists and labels will game the system by tagging something house that is more likely a specific sub genre, this is to take advantage of what genres are getting more eyeballs or other reasons tagging it as something it's not might help it sell. So, understand your genres. For instance, my tech house genre it beatport has a few tracks beatport labeled as deep house, dance-electro, funky house, house, or minimal-deep-tech. But I know for sure they meet my criteria or Tech house or straddle the line of for instance Bass House. It still more than not gets played in my tech house set and not my bass house sets. As well I have played longer sets that start with minimal and deep house and transition to tech house and then bass house nad back to tech house. This is usually over a three hour period or more. but the work you do ahead of time to organize, tag and set memory cue points will not only help you know when and when not to play certain tracks on the fly but also when to perform a bass swap.
Your videos are always well explained. I’m new to Rekordbox and have been disappointed with oversights and lack of features (interest by Pioneer) compared to Serato DJ Pro. I suggest a video on why Serato is better(not perfect) than Rekordbox when it comes to library management. 1. Intelligent Playlists. Not very intelligent due to lack of anything other than “All of these” and “contains”. Where are all the common sense options? 2. You do a little cleansing of folders such as replace or delete a track. Intelligent Playlist does not update and can’t be told to refresh. You have to do it manually. 3. With a long list of folders and playlists, hitting a Alphabet key on you keyboard does nothing to jump to folders starting with that letter. It does in export mode but not performance Pushing me back to Serato !!
All my music tracks are tangled up in numerous subfolders. A-Z this folder. A-z that folder. A-z yet another folder. I am still trying to figure out how to line them all up in one alphabetical order list similar to what you have. Also, there are a lot of tracke that I know I have on my computer that are not showing up in the list. This video is helping out but I still have a lot of figuring out to do.
You can rename the main MyTag categories as well. In the Related Tracks criteria it shows which tags are very useful to have filled in you tracks to raise the feature to the next level.
man i was just moving my library and i had to delete few songs because it didn't relocate after a few try. i needed this video an hour ago.. this shows how amazing my luck is all the time.. dead inside..
Hey Jamie! Thank for the tips. I watched your video as summary but coundnt find the what I looking for. Maybe I missed it. I was thinking there a was a way to taggin songs each other as they are mixing good. I mean a reminder for they re mixing good.
Great video! One question: when I move my track's files in my explorer they seem to lose the tags I attached to each one. How can I move them in explorer without loosing the tags?
Dude interesting I didn't know you could turn on Camelot Key within Rekordbox so easily. I was converting through Mixed in Key lol. Laughing at myself! Many other nuggets also!
I love watching your videos! I've learned so much from you since I started Djing a few months ago. But suddenly I broke concentration at 0:54 . You're so cute! Lol I hope this made you laugh. Keep up the great work:-)
Someone help please: If you use your itunes library right into rekordbox to organise tracks with tags, matches, cue points etc (for exporting to usb sticks to play at a club with cdjs), without impoting the itnues playlists into rekordbox, will it retain that metadata next time you open rekordbox and loads your updated itunes library (say a week later that you have added more tracks into itunes)? Big question for me! I prefer using itunes to build my library.
Is there a way to link two tracks together, so for example, you are playing track A and mix into track B and you really like the mix and don't want to forget it so you somehow link the two tracks together so that next time you have track A selected, it will highlight track B as a suggestion?
Does anyone know a way to have your current customised column headers be the default when creating new playlists?, currently I'm having to set the columns each time I create a new playlist which is really annoying!
I have a lot of different playlists. Is there a way to copy the column preset from collection to all your playlists? Will take forever to do each one separately. I don't understand why you have to set this up for each playlist. Makes no sense. Any change to column settings in collection should automatically change presets in your playlists..very frustrating.
Can some one help out. I'm click something that put rekordbox in the sample mode but I can't find my playlist music. When I click on a playlist it says I have 18 tracks but they're not visible, what do I need to click on to put the music back on the screen?
Being a Serato user I would like to buy a Pioneer DDJ-800 but do not know much about Rekordbox, can you tell me if Rekordbox is as easy to use as Serato and does it have as good features.
Is it possible to look for the tags (Let's say the Banger! tag) in the CDJ's? How to do it? Also, if this is possible I would like to know if i can do it for a specific folder not my whole collection. Thanks
I never knew RB had that traffic light system, in fact I only recently realised they'd added the option to view key in the camelot format. Annoyingly I've just migrated from a DDJ RX to an XDJ RX2, so this new information is basically useless to me hahaha
It’s actually not all useless. The traffic light system works on the xdj rx2 also. Check out my 5 tips and tricks on the RX2 video for how this works. ua-cam.com/video/MXol_fMUvmI/v-deo.html
Intelligent playlist needs a logic update, they need to be able to add songs if (a) any of these rules have been met AND (b) all of these rules are met. Also it's all a matter of finding it yourself, I know I have some tracks that are defo not in a "future" folder, but I know if I look for that track il defo somehow relate it to "future". Just take it easy and experiment.
A video on how to use these tips (in the best way possible) on a CDJ display would be helpful for people who don't use a laptop (to for instance see all of those playlists and palette playlists in one screen). And have it be specific to the CDJ-900-NXS as well as a 2000NXS/NX2 or even CDJ-30000. I REALLY wish that Pioneer setup the 'My Tag' lists you create to be selectable right on the CDJ itself when you press the Tag List button for example.. Then select one of the tags you created and have it show a list of tracks with that specific selected tag --- again - right on the CDJ's display to pick. Instead Pioneer seems to waste that real estate on screen of the CDJ by only allowing 100 Tags and it being only temporary. The My Tag lists need to be available the CDJ from the select knob. (without having to search).
Wouldnt sorting ur playlists via rekord box in such way be helpful if u have a long set, like usually i create my playlist using these techniques and have more than one playlist on my usb depending on the slot or venue !but u have a point for long sets 🙏
Amazingly awesome set of tips! While I knew some of them, the others were great new bits of info. The pallet playlists are awesome, so are the track tags and the ability to highlight tracks with the same key. Can’t wait to use those!

Why not Pioneer to finally come with a solution just to drag ALL your folders and from them to create playlists. This way the DJ definitely will know where the tracks are!

Knowing which deck is the Master deck is really handy when you want to do very smooth but also very big tempo changes. You can sync BPMs of two decks, set the pitch range for the new track so you can comfortably bring it to 0% or where you wanna be, then set it as Master, enable Sync on the previous song, play the new song and pitch up/down as you need. The track you're transitioning from will lock its grid and BPM to the new track, that way you can make breakdowns or buildups as if you're doing it in Ableton.
For my "decade" bpm playlists, I intentionally overlap the bpm ranges a bit. This gives me a few more options around the break points between each list. I have done this two different ways over the years. 1) +/-2bpm -- "108-122," "118-132." (Old method. These playlists covered 14bpm and did not narrow my choices enough. But, this was super handy when I had a more tightly curated collection.) 2) 5 & 10 based. "105-115," "110-120," "115-125," "120-130" (New method. This requires me to be deliberate and have a plan about the direction of tempo changes, but narrows the choices enough to be effective.) The overlap allows me to have more options "near" any given bpm when I am trying to find the next song.
I experimented with non-overlapping lists, so 110-119, 120-129, etc. The problem was that when I was looking for a song "around" the split between lists, like 120, I was having to split my attention between two different lists. That was a (minor) annoyance, for me at least. By having some overlap, like 105-115, 110-120, 115-125, etc...I was able to look in the "middle" of a list more consistently. Yes, that means that I have twice as many playlists as I would need. These playlists are all automatically maintained by Smart Playlists, so aside from having more lists, there was no additional maintenance overhead for me.
@@ilovemusic849 I have my music collection sliced up into many different playlist types, by BPM is just one of the ways. The BPM list tends to be based on "everything" that I have prepped to play - it's about 5k songs (ish). I am NOT as diligent as I should be in removing older songs that I no longer play, so my active collection is larger than it should be. I also have playlists by Genre, and by Dance type (e.g. the different Ballroom dances, etc). These playlists tend to be long term. I make short term playlists when I prepare for an event and I want to have some specific music ready to go.
(Quik question) How do you adjust you Playlist window in performance mode so u have more room to play around with the tracks? Hope that makes sense.... I seen u used the browse window. I'm talking about the main window tho on performance mode underneath the decks

Instead of browse change the layout to 2deck horizontal
