I hope that the scavenger guys at the tip/dump go through what you have sent there. They will make a lot of money or get get great use out of what you are condemning so that you are getting your clean slate!
one would think that a person with those tools would find use of the wood they are taking down. Wasteful. He needs to watch Epic Upcycling on how to really recycle.
I had a chuckle when Alex tried to get all sentimental and say he hopes Jim is looking down from heaven and appreciating the transformation of the house. And the neighbor is just like “nah I don’t think he really cares” LOL
exactly lmao. dying inside watching him toss so many items he could have at least sold or donated. "these are brand new" [immediately cuts to throwing them all away and breaking them] they're from as early as the fifties. yes, they aren't worth much, selling for about $5 - $12 each, but he had four boxes of them. all of them, immediately trashed without so much as a google search (T - T )
Everyone is mentioning the vice but I saw those chains and thought that was a waste to toss. This looks like a complete tear down. The amount of reframing and structural issues that will need to be addressed to get it to pass code seems more effort than simply starting over. You are probably going to need a structural engineer involved anyway so I would take it back to the slab and build what you wanted.
For structural repairs, don't fret. watch a couple YT videos of framing. you'll need a few bottle jacks and timber, lift whatever is sitting on the wall about 1/2 in to 1in high, (with some doubled up 2x4 going horizontally for support) and then you can begin tearing out the old and install the new. if possible, the best way to frame a wall and check to make sure it's square, is to build the wall on the ground, "in place" and then raise it up. slip it under the load, and drop the load onto your new walls. You got this.
if youre considering putting on a new roof, that would be the optimal time to fix load bearing walls. strip the roof, remove damaged sheeting, then fix load bearing walls, once the walls are done, you can add extra roof rafters where it's needed, replace the damaged sheeting that you previously pulled, and once the framing is secure, then put up you new roof. a 2 or 3 man roofing crew can typically replace an entire roof in 1 day. 2 days if it's a big job. If you are going solo and weather might be a concern, spend the $ to get large tarps and cover/button cap the tarps on the edges while you work.
Feels like he could’ve had a yard sale first, have people just come into the garage and take what they want. That probably would’ve saved him several hours of cleaning it out. And man, wear your damn PPE.
Lol the shop light... we had one exactly like that and I have many memories of my Dad getting irritated with me as I got distracted and let the light drop. Also why "Aziz, LIGHT!" is funny in the Fifth Element .
Regarding the garage, you can go and see in the county/city to see what permits were filed and what was originally built. You can also see additional permitted work done on the home.
I hope you didn't send that CRT television to the landfill. Broken or not, vintage video game hobbyists will buy those for big bucks and repair them if needed.
Looks like a great space! Personally though while throwing all that out and demo-ing, I would have had on gloves, a dust mask, and safety glasses the whole time! Lucky to not get an infected cut, something in your eye, or a respiratory issue from breathing in mouse crap. Something to think about as you continue!
That old timer is a darkroom timer for developing photographic film (35mm or medium format). The darkroom equipment would plug into the outlets. I got one with some old 35mm photography equipment from a cousin that was downsizing. Thought it would look cool on a shelf with some old vintage cameras.
Being from Denmark, watching you just dumping it all in a landfill and not sort by type is stressing me out. Guess we take recycling a lot more serious than I thought
Unfortunately we really don't have many great options here - recycling centers only take certain types of metal and electronics so a lottttt of stuff just goes in a landfill. It's honestly not a personal problem for people, the US is just so large and states and counties do their own thing individually with trash. Heck, a lot of towns only have private companies running trash pickup and facilities. Calling Americans "annoying" for not doing this is silly - I think Americans would do it if we had any kind of program that was easy to understand and unified! Some people here mention that they do xyz in America, that's great but it might not be an option for everyone else. America is HUGE!
Hola! 🖐This is what makes a project like this so exhilarating, right? It's exciting while at the same time scary as heck!!! I'm just glad this thing did not collapse on you. Looking forward to the next installment. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
It's not about being a professional or not. Definitely common sense took a vacation on this one. The lack of PPE is really concerning in such mess of a work area.
This reminds me of this old house in Detroit. Kevin O'Connor was talking to a city planner as they oversaw a house being cleaned. Like this house, structural issues became apparent after the clutter was removed. It will be a miracle if don't have to demolish that building.
After throwing away so much of the chains, shelving and cupboards, I trust that your new workshop won’t be in need of shelving and racking, which will now cost you money.
yeah, if i where you, i would seriously consider tearing it all down and build from scratch, since the roof is collapsing and some sections of the beams are rotting the patchwork required to fix it all will quickly rise in costs compared to tearing it all down and building it up from scratch
well, the good thing is, if you clean up those polaroids, you should be able to bring them back to working order with new film, as thats available! saying this mostly because the specific ones you showed should have new film being produced-
This garage looks like my 86 yo dads garage. Full of many years of stuff. If he were doing the demo in this garage he would keep each piece of useable wood. Among lots of that other stuff you threw out. 😂 Which explains why there’s 3 old microwaves, two toasters among other stuff in his garage. 😉 He is slowly going through his stuff. It’s hard for him to let go. He’s still very hardworking even at 86. I go over and help where I can. But it’s also hard for people his age to accept help. Remember the folks that lived in your house didn’t mean for the upkeep to get away from them. It just did. This is a little wake up call to us all to clear away our extra stuff so someday our kids don’t have to.
That is/was a dark room timer. They had glow in the dark markings on the face. Forgot what it was that made them glow but it probably was noy great to be exposed to.
no recycling, just dump it in a landfill. that's so crazy. I remember growing up in the early 90's in Sweden and going to a recycling center with all of our garbage from like tearing out an old room or just cleaning up in the yard. It's crazy to me that the still have landfills in the US.
Man I literally would have bought that bench vice from you. And man if I lived closer to you. I would have picked up all that metal stuff, just to scrap it! Lol but hey what a shop it'll be once it's completed! Great work brother! Can't wait to see what's to come! Take it easy! And please be safe! That whole thing, looks like a diyer wet dream! Lol
I hope that the scavenger guys at the tip/dump go through what you have sent there. They will make a lot of money or get get great use out of what you are condemning so that you are getting your clean slate!

That vice you through away was a nice find
Came to the comments to say the same thing. Can’t believe he tossed it.
@@engus13 he likes the shinny and new only
I had a chuckle when Alex tried to get all sentimental and say he hopes Jim is looking down from heaven and appreciating the transformation of the house. And the neighbor is just like “nah I don’t think he really cares” LOL
Dying inside watching you throw away that bench vise

You look like me when I started the “This Old Crack House” series.
You had basement jesus, hes got nothing

“Nice clubs, leather is still good”
*throws the out in load 2
Next week's episode needs to be sponsored by a respirator and safety glasses. :-)
And safety shoes
And gloves!
Seriously. Tell us you're not a professional without saying it.
Don’t forget a hard hat too
My lungs hurt just watching this video
Can't believe you tossed that vice! Would have been easy enough to restore and always super handy.
this is point where i stopped watching this video... trashing everything is not my kind of people 🤣
At 1:36 it looks like he tossed some pretty good tow chain too!!
@@jimbo1326yeah that’s what got me.

just saw your last video, excellent job! :D

"words can't hurt me anymore, I've held enough lights for my dad" HAHA that's awesome and true
You look like a guy that does a lot of favors and helps other people out, surprised me we didn't see anybody helping you to clean out the garage
its all content brother. The longer the better
Landfills give off so much 3 world vibes
tha fuck lol
Lol the shop light... we had one exactly like that and I have many memories of my Dad getting irritated with me as I got distracted and let the light drop. Also why "Aziz, LIGHT!" is funny in the Fifth Element .
Okay I'm almost towards the end of the video and PPEs I would so much like for you to look into. Hard hats, gargles, air protections, gloves, masks.
bro the half stuff that you throw away maybe worth a fortune😄😄😄😄
15:06 He said screw the golf clubs haha
That clock/timer is for the darkroom for light exposure to photo paper.
Regarding the garage, you can go and see in the county/city to see what permits were filed and what was originally built. You can also see additional permitted work done on the home.
having watched so many bench vice restoration videos, im almost sad you threw that one away :D
The worst job in the world is cleaning up someone else’s trash? You go dude!
I'm new and already sold bro . I'm tuning in weekly I'm also new to the ryobi brand getting my Christmas package later this week.
I hope you didn't send that CRT television to the landfill. Broken or not, vintage video game hobbyists will buy those for big bucks and repair them if needed.
Looks like a full demo and rebuild job.
I’m concerned about you breathing in all that dust 😅😬
Yeah man, it's no good for sure. I can't say I'm always careful either.
I was concerned about the lack of gloves during the clean out
should deff wear a mask
Yeah, no N95 or safety glasses. Not a smart move. But, neither was buying a building with severe water damage 😅
bro's gone in a year
Long time sub here. Love this series, wish youd donate some of the things you thrown away or make them a separate project that's good content as well

I'm watching on pins and needles, scared the roof will collapse on you! Omg I would've stopped and not continued without adding supports
Use safety goggles, dammit! While you still have both eyes! 😆
You are so brave to do everything with your bare hands! I would probably catch all deceases in the world.
"Words can't hurt me anymore. I've held the light for my dad." I FELT THAT LOL
10:16 this is a timer to make make analog prints from film photography
Someone could've used a lot of this stuff, I would've loved that vice haha!
The timer is used for black and white photography development.
I would’ve kept that vice in honor of jim. Can never have enough vices in a shop that size. Hell I have 4 in my small shop
I bet he's never used a vice 🤷🏼
Hes a clown. Doesnt do anything right
@Mr. Build It love the vids! Only thing I don’t understand about this one, why did you throw away $50 worth of chain during clean out?
Or the other $1000 worth of shelving
you're wilddddd for doing this without some safety glasses or a mask lol
Being from Denmark, watching you just dumping it all in a landfill and not sort by type is stressing me out. Guess we take recycling a lot more serious than I thought
Living in Denmark..This stressed me out as well..... Sorting first and then load it on the trailer..
Yeah you guys are just great 👌. They say Americans are annoying.
It gets sorted mechanically in most places because it's taken to a transfer station not actually a landfill.

It's not about being a professional or not. Definitely common sense took a vacation on this one. The lack of PPE is really concerning in such mess of a work area.
I'll buy that bench vice from you!
You saw that to? What a waste right?
This reminds me of this old house in Detroit. Kevin O'Connor was talking to a city planner as they oversaw a house being cleaned. Like this house, structural issues became apparent after the clutter was removed. It will be a miracle if don't have to demolish that building.
Demo that and rebuild it right from the ground up. Scary part is if garage is that bad what all did he work on inside the house thats hidden.
I got a sinus infection just watching this. Respect the hustle tho. Excited for the transformation.
@Ryobi … if you’re reading this, please send the man a box of respirator masks!
When that guy said cadillac I thought that door panel was a 69 cadillac door panel! Those parts are worth somethin!
After throwing away so much of the chains, shelving and cupboards, I trust that your new workshop won’t be in need of shelving and racking, which will now cost you money.
im upset about the bench vises he tossed
I’ll take that Chevrolet tailgate banner!
10:45 "pretty cool sign" throws it away

Holding one of those lights and having your dad yell at you while working on his car…yup. 😂. 🙋🏾♂️ I have that memory
this gonna be a kick ass series, excited to watch this reno :)
You did not keep the anvil on the workbench?!
You know he's about to put hella money into this since he's throwing out things like shelves and the VICE? on the worktable.....
That stove, if it still works, is great for baking powder coated parts.
Shore up the structure, reframe and new roof first
"Old School Timer" looks like a Dark Room Timer to me
yeah, if i where you, i would seriously consider tearing it all down and build from scratch, since the roof is collapsing and some sections of the beams are rotting the patchwork required to fix it all will quickly rise in costs compared to tearing it all down and building it up from scratch
Just stick build your new truess and Jack the roof up, put in new load bearing wall and it will hold another 30 years

Why'd you trash that chain?
why to throw that steel chain :) looks usefull
also the steel / al shelf looks good :)
So the golfclubs did go, tooo bad you didn't do a give-away of the vice. Quite a handy tool that some people cannot afford for they home shop/shed
looking at the structural problems, I'm surprised it survived Snowmageddon a few years ago, or maybe that's why it's in such rough shape
Wow, great start. I can't wait to see what you do with it!
Can’t wait to see how you’re going to fix that house !!
Good chance at finding some asbestos in there... Especially the "cardboard" you knocked out creating a dust cloud.
That is/was a dark room timer. They had glow in the dark markings on the face. Forgot what it was that made them glow but it probably was noy great to be exposed to.
as a non American it is wild to see oil and every other chemical just dumped into a landfill. and stuff that would be usable to many.

Careful, you're compromising the garage - that cardboard was structural.
This had me rolling! 🤣
Keep that RAS!!!
You could have set up a demolition event to help you😊 like 1 of those that you pay to do in Las Vegas
hey, out of curiosity, what happened to episodes 3, 4, 6, and 9?
You should keep something from Jim and refurb it to keep his memory alive

Ah yes the 90s light memories. I've the scars from the lamp to prove it.
The LIGHT COMMENT was 💯💯💯😅😂😅👏 held that soooo many times and burnt the sh¡t outta myself for my dad and uncle lol.
Bro use a sledgehammer lol
Beast mode activated!
I would have taken the scrapmetal to the recycler for some extra cash !
whens the next ep dude, cant wait to see what you have done next :D
Hell ya. getting excited
I would have kept all those chains those are good chain
Safety glasses! Hire some helpers. Sawzalls.
You need to call the demo part of this series, "The Big YEET."
Love it my man!!! Can’t wait to see what you do with it
So pumped for this series! I watched the 1st episode, but I don't remember or if it was touched on...can we assume this is a flip?
"it can't get worse than this" famous last words lol
Well that thing you said about international shipping is not true they only ship to 🇺🇸
