I'm about to start building mine, just waiting for the rain to break! The options out there are coops large enough for two chickens, and multi thousand dollar coops meant for either people with a lot of excess money or giant flocks. I'm just a regular human that wants like five or six chickens lol. So I'm about to build my first building ever.
I absolutely love this coop! I am in the midst of building mine but had to take a break due to 4 days of rain. Your design is so nice and I am implementing some of your strategies in my coop as well!
Thanks for the video. I will incorporate some of your designs into my new chicken coop this weekend. I will have taller legs in order to store feed containers beneath the coop and use a center, clean out door.
I love you guys! I’m researching before building my first chicken coop- my girls are 3 days old so I need to get on it. This video was very helpful and inspiring. The simplicity and beauty of your design is perfect! Everything I want in my own coop! Thank you for taking the time!
Thanks so much! Yes they grow so quickly it’s nice to be prepared and have their home ready for them for less stress 😊 we do have a video we posted recently on what we think are chicken coop must haves if you want to check that out. Just things to consider. This was our very first diy and now we build and sell them locally. It really inspired us to tackle more diy projects and gave us confidence. We really had never even picked up a drill before! Lol
I LOVE this coop design! Any chance you have plans I can use? I’m definitely going to need to get Lowes to precut my wood. All I have is a saws all lol
I really like the build and actually implemented the main door access with 6" high board for the deep litter method too on my coop which I'm still working on. Since I understand the high temps with living near Sacramento, I was thinking about adding a fresh air door to the main door so even more air gets into the coop. With you guys having pretty high temps like me, do you feel the ventilation thru the top will be enough? I have situated my coop so it faces the east which also is up against the back of our garage so it have the maximum amount of shade throughout the day. I'm planning to extend the run far enough so the chicks have a place to sun bath when needed. I really wanted to get your take on more ventilation from the side main door and if it's really needed? I have good ventilation at the top of the coop, fyi. Thanks and I appreciate the video
Great job guys 👍...if ya ask me, it doesn’t matter how long you guys took to build it......it’s your personal touch, and it’s beautiful. Team work, makes the dream work 😇🙏🐣🐥🐔🐓👍
I've been watching your videos for a while now and really enjoy them and what you you two have done there. I'm 7 weeks in with my first flock of 7 Chickens and used your idea of the cage run covered in tarps to keep everything dry inside. Next is the chcknick table ! (Super cute idea ) and I'm going to build a full size coop instead of the store bought one I have now in there next year if all works out well ! keep up the great videos and good luck to you both !!
Thanks so much!! Thanks for watching. That is exciting they grow up so fast. Let us know how the chicknic table goes, we love giving our flock treats on it. With this weather we have been giving them lots of melon on it. Have fun with all your future projects!
You guys are just amazing 😃 and you really bring rookies like my husband & I a ton of value! Thank you sincerely for sharing your knowledge. We ordered 5 of the fly traps and the feeder is next 😂
Aw thank you so much for the kind words and support of our channel! ❤️ We love helping others and only share the products we generally love and think others will too! This diy was our very first ever, my father had always built all my livestock housing in the past. Now with our new found confidence we diy all the time and actually sell chicken coops, brooders, aviaries, Chicknic tables, dog houses, turtle, rabbit, and quail homes locally in our area now! It just takes tackling that first project to get a little experience and practice 😊 UA-cam is a great tool we learned mostly just from searching how to build a stud wall, then my dad showed us how to reinforce the foundation and do the roof
Love small channels like this that share similar interest as myself. Having a mini backyard farm is so satisfying and great for your mental health. I’ve been wanting to start some videos as well. I would live with my chickens if they didn’t shit everywhere haha. Great job on the build you two make a great team. definitely subscribed. By the way I live pretty close to you guys
Thanks a lot! We adore our chickens too and we always say the same thing, that they would be indoor pets if they didn't poop so much (and we don't want to deal with diapers lol). Let us know if you end up launching a channel!
Thank you!!! and not at all. Although, I would recommend building it as a 4x6' instead of 5x6' only because the sheets of plywood come in 4x8' and for that extra foot to make it 5x6', you need to buy a second sheet of plywood for the floor. But if you want it to be 5x6', go right ahead, don't mind you using this as reference at all!! God luck!!!
stellar information, been watching your videos all day- chickens, and some gardening too... thank you for wonderful, valuable, interesting, and necessary information! ....we are prepping for a 'suburban" chicken coop and run... what fabric/tarp do you use over your enclosure? it looks nice, and bright and lets light filtrate.... so would love to check out. thank you in advance!
I like this. I might make a smaller version with internal nesting boxes. Is a 4x4 coop fine for 4-6 chickens. Probably australorps. Maybe plymouth rocks.
haha yes, that week was over 100 degrees in our area. We do usually give them cold snacks like frozen peas and corn, watermelon, cabbage, and ice in their waterers. Thanks for joining us!
hahaha I'm the same way! I don't really have pans for them, I just draw something that looks like a child drew it just to help me know where I'm at, but I don't haver actual plans unfortunately

This really was our very first project ever and had never touched a drill before Covid. I work in the dental field, but during the shut down, I got curious and decided to give this a try.
Hmmmm, we didn't keep great track of all the receipts, but I would say it's about $500-$600, but that is much less than you can find out there for a finished coop comparable to this one =]

7:17 Thanks to you both I am inspired to build for my chickens ! How thick of plywood did you use for the floor and walls . ❤
looks like 1/4" or 3/8" osb. it doesnt matter which. just how much do you want to spend.
you can use thicker for more sturdiness.
