Hi! Quick question. Do the hens go back to their nesting boxes to lay their egg or do they just lay them wherever while ranging? I free range my chickens after a certain hour because of this reason. Thank you & welcome to our channel! Chickens are the best, no other pet gives you a valuable protein source! I would definitely recommend a production red (sex link hen) or leghorn. @@Buckeye_4_Life_ oh yes they are beautiful and give many huge eggs! Perfect layer for white eggs. We like to collect the rainbow and have a few of each that lay each color. Not for any reason they’re the nutritionally the same, we just like having all the colors lol
@@BockBockBouquet Do you think they might be more susceptible to being picked off by other predators because they are all white..? Something I heard on another video.
@@Buckeye_4_Life_ no I don’t believe that, no more than other chickens. I’m not saying I’m correct, it’s just what I think personally…but I also don’t believe having black chickens keeps hawks away because they think they are crows lol. I think actual crows and ravens keep other birds of prey away. They attack hawks and leave chickens alone, so they are a good ally to us. But having good predator proofing will keep predators away, our white chickens have never been more susceptible to predation than any other chicken. (There are also brown leghorn variety as well if you would rather not have a white chicken)
I think both of my gallinas are brooding and they both are on egg #5. When should we put a food and water bowl next to their nesting boxes and will we need to take the rooster out? One of our roosters is a semental and he used to be what I called “the gentleman” but now he flogs me every time I go in the coop to change water and give food. Not sure if he is just protecting the gallina or why he suddenly started flogging me 😅
Eventually they will stop laying eggs while being broody, they are trying to lay a clutch to hatch. Is the food and water for mom or for babies? If it’s for mom there is no need she will leave the nest once a day to eat/drink and relieve herself. The eggs will hatch after 20 days of incubation and at this point after all chicks have hatched, I would recommend actually fencing off an area in the coop or putting her and pen or larger cage and letting her raise the babies in there safe from predation from predators and other hens/roosters possibly picking on and killing the baby chicks. If not separated there is a chance they will go missing one by one. The mother hen will do her best to protect her baby chicks but this can cause undue stress to her. The fencing will have to be small enough that a baby chick couldn’t fit through it and it’s best if it’s in or near the coop so the flock sees the babies and once they are large enough and released they will have already been integrated as the rest of the flock is used to seeing them. We use these grow out pens often as they come in handy for broody moms, integrating pullets, or as a hospital pen. The rooster could just be hormonal and coming to age and possibly seeing you as a threat to the flock. Unfortunately some roosters can be aggressive and it’s hard to change that. Some are always gentlemen and would never attack. Some are gentlemen and only attack if they see you picking up a hen and she’s squawking up a storm 😂. Maybe he hears the hens distress call and you happen to be around. Try picking him up and carrying him around when he tries to attack. Pet him, talk to him. See if this helps lol

This is total trial and error but I was also raised around chickens but I’m definitely having to sharpen my skills and know how. Thank you thank you , my friends!
Do hens lay eggs while hatching eggs or do they stop until all hatching is done.....also when do you stop collecting egg to eat when the hen begins brooding
Once they lay a clutch of eggs they stop laying while brooding and sitting on the eggs to hatch. We mark a circle around the egg in pencil on the eggs being incubated by the hen so if another chicken lays their eggs in the same nest we don’t get them confused and have half incubated eggs
Hello. Just found your channel and love it. Question -- do you have problems with rats ? Sometimes we are overrun with them. Tried everything. Ant ideas would be helpful. Thanks
Thank you! We don’t anymore, the best way to keep them away is too never leave feed out. Only give them as much treats on the ground as they will consume. You can take their feeders away at night, or I will link a video below on the rodent proof feeder we use and love. It’s a treadle style that only opens for the chickens and not rodents or wild birds. We haven’t noticed any rats ever since we have stray feral cats that took up residence on our property. They just showed up, we don’t feed them, they live off our land. They must be eating something! (All the rats) maybe add a few barn cats to your property. They don’t bother the chickens, they would only harm baby chicks or small pullets. ua-cam.com/video/Z0Wc9ltBIOo/v-deo.html
I'm not sure if you can assist me but here goes; my chickens are not laying in their lush nesting boxes. I even placed ceramic eggs in the boxes prior to them laying. Because they are free range (I let them out of their pen in the morning), they lay around the yard and it literally becomes an egg hunt. With this in mind, do you have any suggestions as to how I can encourage them to lay in their nesting boxes? Thank you!
Besides the fake eggs the other way to train them unfortunately is to lock them up for a week or two. So they have no other option but to lay there, once they get used to that routine they will continue to lay there. Easter egg hunting everyday is not fun 😂
Hi we are firstime chicken keepers since covid.got excited we think we have too many for our urban Coop. They deleveloped feather picking we tried extra protein no peck clips nothing seem to work.please help
It could just be an activity due to their high pecking instinct and boredom. We recommend lots of toys, we grow grazing boxes for them and hang cabbages for them to peck and have lots of perches and toys. If your run is smaller it could be a sign of overcrowding as well possibly. Just have to keep their minds busy. Check out our diy and chicken feed playlists for ideas
Best way to monitor health would be a weekly weigh in. Chickens will conceal their illness as long as possible because they don’t want to show weakness. Yeah, I probably won’t go through the effort, but, yes, a weekly weigh in would catch an illness much faster than waiting to see symptoms. I like aragonite calcium, or calcium carbonate, I’m convinced oyster shells being coastal bottom feeders or farmed have high levels of chemicals and heavy metals. Also avoid pyrethrin chemicals for mites and lice..these are not safe, innocuous chemicals just because they are made from flowers..there are new studies that show they cause birth defects like scissor beak and bulging eyes..
It’s easiest to shake a bag or container of grubs like black soldier flies and say here chicka chicka chicka, whatever, if they associate a certain sound with a treat they will come running, you can always count on them coming if you train them..
Thank you for another great show! Always an education and pleasant to listen to. I agree with one of your other viewers. The chicken came first. Just like God created Adam and Eve first and then they had children. Genesis says when all the various types of animals were created. I love the little picnic table. This is two years after you made the video but I'm going to see if you have any directions on how you made it. I can probably tell from the picture. Thanks again!
Hi guys, new chicken owner here. Quick question that wasn't asked on the video. My chickens have taken to sleeping on top of their coop. I was told probably because it got really hot here. We let them do it for a few days but decided it wasn't a good habit. Their coop has a window and ventilation. For a week now we have to go out each night and physically take them off the roof and put them inside the coop. Any tips on how to break them of this habit? They are getting to be laying age and want to encourage them to lay in the proper place. Thanks for any tips!
Chickens desire to sleep on the highest roost to be protected from predators. Manually placing them on their roost each night should train them. How tall is your coop and how high are the roost bars in the coop? Maybe raise the roost bars in the coop as they would dislike ones near the floor. Once close to laying age place fake wood or ceramic eggs in the nest boxes and that will encourage them to lay in the nest boxes

They are a great friendly and high production chicken breed. We have a few very old ones who actually still lay. They can be sexed at hatch as the roosters are a different color. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you would like to know about them. Thanks so much! ❤️
Eggs have to come before any egg laying animal. The "chicken" came from selective breeding of jungle foul in the Asian Islands from what I can gather on that subject lol
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer is the rooster. Then the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon the rooster, He then plucked a feather from his side and created a hen. Then the rooster was more than happy to know the hen and she layed an egg.
Genius says God created each animal and articulated its every feature including the beautiful science of the reproduction system, so chickens came before eggs
Isome folks may be un aware about God's law on blood, not to eat any amount of blood of any kind in any amount, to spill it on the ground, because it is sacred to Him, whether a foul or a beast Leviticus 19. 26. And Galatians ❤️ 5. 29😊. Because we love our God above for all He has done for us . Especially giving his most precious son Christ Jesus so that he could buy back his perfect earthly paradise of peace and love and joy 😊 John chapter 3 verse 16. And how grateful we are. For eggs it's so easy just Remo the blood. It's usually just a drop. Thank you 😊 💓 folks for teaching us. We're still learning new things about our hens, they're our pets ♥️ too. Agape love ❤️
😂😂😂 maybe! Ohh and on the auto door I have heard of that, that’s very sad. We recently got an auto door and it if it detects a chicken and will not close. It stops if you put your hand there too. We have had a good experience with it
God Created everything full grown. The chicken came first :) But it probably looked like a prehistoric bird, and not like the chicken that you see today.

Umm yeah they Gallo is still acting like Mr. Head hancho when we walk up so I’ll try and bribe him with treats this week and just show him I’m not scared or Intimidated, even though I am a little and haven’t picked one up yet lol I almost passed out trying to give an anti biotic shot last week to the one that was limping, and yet still so much to learn and so much torso and error going on with my new little loves lol
Aw thank you! Good luck with him I would be giving him nutritional yeast in his feed and giving him poultry cell (a product by rooster booster) vitamins orally in a irrigating syringe or in his water
@@BockBockBouquet ok, perfecto! I’ll go to tractor supply and get some yeast. I have been doing poultry cell in his water since I saw the first aid kit video and how crows feet symptoms are and i think that hit the nail on the head! I have been alternating his water from poultry cell to garlic water to regular water. This is total trial and error but I was also raised around chickens but I’m definitely having to sharpen my skills and know how. Thank you thank you , my friends!
Don’t give up it may take a few months for his symptoms to reverse if it is a vitamin deficiency causing his leg issues. Are his toes curled?
Do hens lay eggs while hatching eggs or do they stop until all hatching is done.....also when do you stop collecting egg to eat when the hen begins brooding
Once they lay a clutch of eggs they stop laying while brooding and sitting on the eggs to hatch. We mark a circle around the egg in pencil on the eggs being incubated by the hen so if another chicken lays their eggs in the same nest we don’t get them confused and have half incubated eggs
Fine and good;

I have two Pekin ducks, one drake, and one hen named Donald and Daisy.
Also we added curtains to our nest boxes and we find the added privacy makes them enjoy laying in their boxes more
Thank you so much!
i have been chased down for them a few times
😂😁
Hi we are firstime chicken keepers since covid.got excited we think we have too many for our urban Coop. They deleveloped feather picking we tried extra protein no peck clips nothing seem to work.please help
It could just be an activity due to their high pecking instinct and boredom. We recommend lots of toys, we grow grazing boxes for them and hang cabbages for them to peck and have lots of perches and toys. If your run is smaller it could be a sign of overcrowding as well possibly. Just have to keep their minds busy. Check out our diy and chicken feed playlists for ideas
@@BockBockBouquet thanks
That makes a lot of sense about the oyster shells, great tips
Love from Africa 🥰🥰
Hello from California!
It’s easiest to shake a bag or container of grubs like black soldier flies and say here chicka chicka chicka, whatever, if they associate a certain sound with a treat they will come running, you can always count on them coming if you train them..
If our chickens hear any bag they think it’s for them and come running lol
Thank you for another great show! Always an education and pleasant to listen to. I agree with one of your other viewers. The chicken came first. Just like God created Adam and Eve first and then they had children. Genesis says when all the various types of animals were created. I love the little picnic table. This is two years after you made the video but I'm going to see if you have any directions on how you made it. I can probably tell from the picture. Thanks again!
41 chickens 😱 and do they all stay in the same coop or do you have several other coops?
There is a breed of chickens that DO lay eggs for their entire lifespan and that is the Deathlayer Chicken that originated in Germany.
HAAAAAYYYYY BROTHERS SALAM DARI INDONESIA AYAM CEMANI KIRINGAN
I think the change of atmosphere especially of our Country Iraq Hot in summer and cold in winter affect on birds health
I have a rooster how do you tell if a egg is fertile
where can I get chicks in my state?
Henopause made me laugh haha
😁😁
I say the chicken came first. Cause God made it
We had a duck lay a double yolk it was massive
That’s cool! One of our Cayuga ducks laid a double yolk last month, it was so beautiful and solid black
WO we have something in commons stop eating chicken since we have them as pet and for eggs from covid era
God created the chicken!
😊😊
I believe the egg came first as a mutation in evolution, from there they just flocked!
I agree!
How can i buy authentic good quality eggs from Bangladesh?

Can you tell me any information on Black Sex Link hen and Roosters . I have 5 hens and 1 mistake Rooster.. they are about 14 weeks old. Any information is Helpful !!! Thank you so much. Or chickens are spoiled like yours. ❤️❤️you 2!
They are a great friendly and high production chicken breed. We have a few very old ones who actually still lay. They can be sexed at hatch as the roosters are a different color. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you would like to know about them. Thanks so much! ❤️
Dude, looks like tito ortiz.
Calcium: Older chickens tend to have thinner shells, too.
Eggs have to come before any egg laying animal. The "chicken" came from selective breeding of jungle foul in the Asian Islands from what I can gather on that subject lol
I totally agree with you! 🙌🏼😁

If the egg is a chicken period then the chicken came first 😅😜
LANCASTER IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!
Nice! We have lived in the AV for a ling time.
I think in the beginning, WAY back, God created a chicken.
😊😊
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF AN EGG IS FERTIL OR NOT?
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer is the rooster. Then the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon the rooster, He then plucked a feather from his side and created a hen. Then the rooster was more than happy to know the hen and she layed an egg.
Our rooster do not like a particular hen , she is small in statue he breeds her once it is over he then chase and peck her .why would this be
At my house it’s the chicks
Why do chickens cross the road?
Genius says God created each animal and articulated its every feature including the beautiful science of the reproduction system, so chickens came before eggs
'GOD' Made ALL in the beginning! The eggs came next.
If you're a believer the bird came first
Isome folks may be un aware about God's law on blood, not to eat any amount of blood of any kind in any amount, to spill it on the ground, because it is sacred to Him, whether a foul or a beast Leviticus 19.
Automatic doors can accidently kill a chicken ..which came first the chicken or the egg i say the rooster..
😂😂😂 maybe! Ohh and on the auto door I have heard of that, that’s very sad. We recently got an auto door and it if it detects a chicken and will not close. It stops if you put your hand there too. We have had a good experience with it
Chicken, when God made the animals
😊
Why do the chickens eat the eggs
I believe it's the chicken that came first, scripture says the fowl were created first, then they were told to be fruitful & multiply. 🐔 🥚 🐣 💕 🙂
😊😊
my brown eggs taste way better than my green eggs

God Created everything full grown.
The chicken came first :)
But it probably looked like a prehistoric bird, and not like the chicken that you see today.
I believe God created the chicken first with the ability to lay eggs. 😊
