How well this lecture has aged. It currently feels as if Israel is busy with their own "final solution." after October 7, 2023 attacks. To put this in its historical context: the allied powers had just geenlighted the expulsion of 12 million ethnic Germans and numerous other minorities (Poles, Ukranians, etc) after ww2. It was an accepted tool of geopolitics in those days. It was not regarded as a crime in those days, but was referred to as population exchange or transfer, or as a necessary expulsion in order to avoid future internicine strife. The term "ethnic cleansing" was not coined until decades later.
And no-one complained about the transfer of populations when India and Pakistan were created. More than a million people died because of religious hatred, and still there is a Muslim fifth column doing its work in India. When Turkey illegally occupied part of Cyprus and ethnically cleansed it, people in the west were not interested. There is something unique about the West's hatred of Israel / love of the Palestinians. It may have something to do with Jews.

I think that the first question to Prof. Pappè might be answered in part by saying that the memory (of the unjust situation they live, be it in the case of Palestinians or in that of blacks) is linked to the present because that memory refers to the real facts that explain the general (including their own) current situation

Everyone has Value, HUMANITY has to wake up. A two state solution may be a better outcome for Palestine and Israel to live side by side. Palestinians want a 2 state living in peace, but Israel wouldn’t allow that despite all the propaganda they show to the world because living in peace with Palestinians and the neighbouring Arab countries would be a threat to their existence. Israel thrive on the conflict and it’s making sure the conflict will stay forever. Read the history of what the Jews did in the 30’s and 40’s to the Palestinians, and for them trying to portray to the west that this land is just a desert full of malaria, and nothing else to justify their choice to settle there, when it wasn’t true, Palestine was a thriving land with its people. To put this in its historical context: the allied powers had just geenlighted the expulsion of 12 million ethnic Germans and numerous other minorities (Poles, Ukranians, etc) after ww2. It was an accepted tool of geopolitics in those days. It was not regarded as a crime in those days, but was referred to as population exchange or transfer, or as a necessary expulsion in order to avoid future internicine strife. The term "ethnic cleansing" was not coined until decades later.
And no-one complained about the transfer of populations when India and Pakistan were created. More than a million people died because of religious hatred, and still there is a Muslim fifth column doing its work in India. When Turkey illegally occupied part of Cyprus and ethnically cleansed it, people in the west were not interested. There is something unique about the West's hatred of Israel / love of the Palestinians. It may have something to do with Jews.
Whatever you want to call it, it's still a crime, whether it was 'geopolitically correct' at the time or not. They just called it something else..
