  • How to Replace BMW BATTERY without PROGRAMMING demonstrated on BMW 745Li.
    The video is meant of entertainment purposes only. Do not Attempt!
    Hey guys, if you have a 1999 or Newer BMW and you need to replace the battery you can do it without going to the dealer and pay around 250 for labor and programming. We have done it on many cars with no problem. You can occasionally get a traction light on but once you drive the car for 2 minutes it will go away. This just a demonstration to show if you can replace the battery without warning lights, The correct way is to have the new battery programmed.

      Did you find that your replacement battery done 3 years ago, did not last very long? I have a 320i and was told by 3 repair shops that it would cost $425 to install and program new battery. But I'm concerned if I perform this battery replacement as per the video, that the battery will wear down quickly and not be covered under warranty.

    The method described here in this video is useless. It may look like a way to by-pass the IBS, but without registering and programming the battery, but the IBS will still "think" the old battery is in the car and charge it accordingly. Will this work? Sure, so will just replacing the battery without jumper cables as described here. You can just replace your battery and not bother to register or code it, but chances are you'll only get a couple of years out of it due to the IBS treating the new battery as if it were an old battery. BTW the bargain place to get German batteries is Wallyworld. The Everstart Maxx H8 is the one to get for most German cars. Or S-club has the Duracell group 49 H8. Either one can be had for under $130 out the door. These are Lead Acid types. Just bought one yesterday a S-club for my Mercedes. Both places also carry the AGM type batteries and they go for around $180. The dealer and most auto stores charge over $200 for the Lead Acid and around $260 for the AGM. The Everstart Maxx is made by Johnson Controls and the Duracell is made by East Penn. Those two companies make 75% of all the batteries sold. They just swap labels. Hope this helps!

    BMW have adaptive charging and power management systems. Part of this management is monitoring the battery’s
    capacity and its charge and discharge profiles. When a battery is changed, the power management system needs to be run through a
    diagnostic cycle in order to properly recognize (register) the different battery and the different capacity, charge and discharge profiles.
    If the new battery is not “registered” the vehicle will run and the battery will charge. However, in the long run, the life of the battery
    will likely be compromised due to improper charging parameters.

      The Million dollar question is will you lose 250 dlls of battery Life? probably not, in other words can you kill 2 batteries by the time it adds up the handing over 250 dlls to the dealer. Plus also consider the hassle (or not) of replacing a battery more often. Thats the question

  • @stephenc2738
    @stephenc2738 7 років тому +3

    This is the better way to replace a battery on a newer model by always leaving 12V in the system, the car's sensors/computer won't require resetting. If you don't have a jumpstarter, then using the low output charge setting on a battery charger should do the same. There are two people in the video and I believe one is holding the Battery Positive Cable preventing it from contacting the body (Negative). If doing this job alone, one has to be careful otherwise a short will trigger problems.

    this is not good for new battery. when you register new one the car resets its charging cycle and gives more charging power to the battery. car has a timer and in time gives less power every year. so if you do this the car will continue giving the battery less power thinking there is an old battery inside.you will not use full capacity of your battery and you will end up using new battery 30-40% less time before it dies. when you register new one you can use it even 5-6 years. without registration maybe 3-4 years. search ebay for cheap reset tools.

    • @tepelena
      @tepelena 5 років тому +2

    • @m.cigledy6769

      The whole idea of registering the battery is to extort money. All lead-acid batteries operate the same as they did in 1851 when they were invented. The computer stops charging when it detects that the battery has been disconnected. The charging system is NOT reprogrammed with all the specifications of the new battery, it is just turned back on. THAT'S IT.

    • @Kabaselefh

    • @TravisTerrell
      @TravisTerrell 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, except for this idea is just a load of shit. They're simple lead-acid batteries. Unlike lithium, NiCD, or some other battery chemistries, you don't have a lot to gain from specialized charging schemes with these. (And honestly, I'd love to see someone who has analyzed the actual juice going into a battery over an extended period of running the car... Assuming its anything more than just a "lock" on new batteries, it almost certainly is doing nothing to enhance battery life. (If someone is uncomfortable with this sort of hacked changing process, and their only alternative is the dealer, they'd probably be best served by using that money to buy an interface tool to register them oneself.)

    How exactly does the dealer/magician program a battery? Its a plastic box with 6 compartments containing lead acid and de-ionized or distilled water, you cant program acid lead or water! Lol you occasionally have to re flash your ecm to reintroduce it to a subordinate control module or component, but as long as you shut everything off and do the change without discharging the system’s capacitors and re connect the 12 volts within one minute or so, you shouldn’t ever have an issue. Another trick, hook up a 12-14v drill battery to the positive and ground contact points, it will supply enough voltage to keep your system active for a battery change

    • @markbeville41
      @markbeville41 5 років тому +1

      the Magician does not introduce software into the battery...It tells the software within the DME (engine management computer) that a new battery has been installed. This greatly changes the overall battery charging strategy. If this is not done the charging strategy for an old battery will be used. This has been shown to greatly reduce the life of the battery. These different strategies are used so that the car can primarily charge the battery during vehicle deceleration, which improves gas mileage and overall efficiency. Keeping the electrical system powered during a battery change on a BMW provides zero benefit.

    I think this video is deceiving. You can change a BMW battery without reprogramming for the new battery. The car will run. But, the computer will think its the old battery and over charge it. The battery life will be less - maybe just a couple of years. They should have connected a code reader to the car before and after to prove this technique worked.

    This is terrible advise. Batteries are expensive, and this will greatly shorten the life of your new battery.
