I have been living up on the Waianae Coast for a year now. I really enjoyed your video and the encouragement to get out and see more while I am living here! Mahalo!
Depends on where you shop. I do Walmart. I feel that a lot of the food, milk, essentials/household items, etc., prices are similar to the East Coast (Philly, NYC, Boston), but paying a little extra to live in paradise is worth it. I felt like I hit the lottery as well, lol. (Civilian nurse). I want my kids and I to learn how to surf too. Cheers to new beginnings!!
@@barbie6695 well aloha and welcome to Hawaii! You are probably anxious to get into your own place but if you are still there for the new Year let me tell you Hawaii goes all out! Probably the craziest night right next to the Chinese New Year. They don't really celebrate the Fourth of July. But New Year’s will be a lot of fun if you’re still in the hotel!
So glad you are truly enjoying it there!! Even as a kid in '79-82, it was so disparaging to hear so many military families especially complaining about being stuck on "this rock"!! People hate on and complain about their families until they can't be around them for awhile like during COVID and the suddenly its "my family, i miss my..." 😞
Yes! There is still a lot of that! That's why I made that other video! To warn people. So many hate it here. I do completely understand the ones who have infants and struggle to get out and enjoy what makes this place epic. It's not for everyone and they have different priorities! John and I have always prioritized adventure and seeing the world. So to us, this is an opportunity of a lifetime!
I just wanna bawl now!!! Lost all my Hawaii pictures in an rv fire in '19. Had them ever since living there and had returned twice and recreated a lot of scenes by placing my grown up self in different places for an update. 😭😭😭
I'm so sorry! I would be devastated! And there has been a lot of change. But I hope by seeing these videos you will be able to relive some of your memories!
So HAPPY you uploaded a video! I clicked right away! Our family always enjoys watching your videos. We absolutely love Hawaii. We would move in heartbeat if there were better public schools and more affordable apartments (maybe one day I’ll win the lottery and just move to Hawaii). AND OMG the food on Oahu is AMAZING! My GOD it’s DELICIOUS 🤤
I understand!! I never thought we would have the chance to call Hawai’i home. Even if it’s only for two plus years! Yes! Not going to lie the last few weeks have been crazy! But not giving up! The videos will still keep coming! The girls and I are literally loading onto a plane right now for a four day adventure! So more craziness to come!
In Maryland. One con of living on Allsworth Court on Fort Meade was that my parents had to drive the trash to a machine since we did not have trash cans for that house. One pro was that I got to stay a little later in Maryland on weekend nights because It got darker later in the summer months than it did in Hawaii. One Pro when me and my parents lived on Craig street we did have access to a small trail in the neighborhood that me and my mother would occasionally do.
One of the pros of me Living on Kiele Place was that I could walk to my school which was Nimitz Elementary school which was my school in Hawaii. I was also close to wood park that I would play sometimes on base since my house was close to it. The cons of that house was that my parents had to deal with roaches in that house. One Pro of Me living on Gemini Avenue was that me and my mother would walk to to Base Exchange since we were so close and we would walk to the commissary too when my mother did not have a big list for store. Also my Mother would ride her bike to the beach since we were so close to Hickam beach from our house as well. I also made a lot of friends on this street as well. I also was across the street from my friends Annika and Nadia lived in Hawaii. I also would play Tag games on this tv in this neighborhood since I had Timer warner cable in this neighborhood. There was also a court on this street which made safe for me to ride my bike outside a lot back in the day. There was also big field across from my house where my neighborhoods the Reed Family would have there double Inflatable slide out side on this field at the time who now live in North Carolina and they might have gotten rid of that slide now that Avianna and her siblings are adults. I also would have potlucks with inflatble waterslides since the weather was just right all the time which was one of the pros of all of my time living Hawaii. One con of this neighborhood was that on the street next to mine there were these men that would talk really loudly in the evening time to each other. One big time pros of living in Hawaii was that I did not have to deal with daylight savings time like I did in Colorado and I do in Maryland. Also I did not need a layover to California to see my grandparents like I did in Maryland before they moved to Oklahoma whenever I went to the airport in Hawaii. I also could swim anytime of the year as I did not have deal with seasons like I did Colorado and Maryland and Also weather was just right for trick or treating when I lived in Hawaii. I also did Bellows Boofest which was really fun for kids as their was bouncy slides and castles and face painting and a walkthrough haunted house.
One of the pros for my schools is that For Dakota Valley and Nimitz Elementary and Wild lake was that I did not have to wear a school uniform. One pro for my school in Hawaii was that I could eat with my parents outside once a year in September which I did one year for their anniversary. I also would have a fun fall festival party at my school each year in October just before Halloween. I also would have fun Christmas program where I would sing in each year and have fun class party before Winter break each year in Hawaii. I also would have Jump rope for heart event some years on the last day of school for Spring break in Hawaii. Also what was nice was in hawaii i did not have to deal with snow days for school and I also would have more breaks than I did when I was going to school here in maryland. I would have 1 week off for fall break each October and 2 weeks off for Christmas and New years and as well as Easter unlike school here in Maryland where I had only one week off for those holidays. Also my school was also outdoors in terms in the Hallways unlike my other three schools that were fully indoor. Also my school had this nice bathroom on the first floor after it got fixed up and it was nice tan or brown coloring for the tile in the bathroom and the boy bathroom got new blue title. One Of the Pros for My high school Wildlake high was that they had a fun day one year for the Freshman and I would dance with other students of course it was hard for me because i was wearing a back brace back then. Also my cooking class had Cafe for teachers and I would invite any teachers I wanted to this Cafe. They also had a work studfy program for speical needs kids and they go to different jobs sites. On Tuesdays I would go to a church to clean toys and then another day I would cleans menus at On the Border and plants things at the ARL greenhouse and do returns for Weiss. There was also a Culture day party each year in the Spring. Also my school was really big 3 stories plus a basement and the 4th floor which was the roof which I saw once when a jantior was up there and needed to use the elevator. One of the Pros of MacArthur I did fun things such as Turtle club after school with My teacher when I was in 7th grade and the game club for special needs kids in 8th grade after school. I also had a game day one fall day. I also had an Auction at my school in January and got some tights and a basketball poster. I did a carnival one day in June 2010 on the second to last day of school.
I will watch my video and make a list for you! If you look at the cola graphs it’s gone down almost every year. Last year it went down 50%. They said it’s based on the survey. But I’ve taken the survey twice and it would be easy to manipulate the results. Either way. There’s no sign it’s going up anytime soon. As long as you’re ready for that you’ll be fine! I’m happy you are coming back!! 🤙🏼🌴
The Hawaiian chain of islands is basically the Himalayas (or any other massive mountain chain) under the water with the above water land mass developed by lava flow long, long ago😂

From someone not just stationed here but born and raised here… DON’T MOVE HERE!!! Visit, buy from local vendors, respect our people and land, then LEAVE 🙏🏼
I get it! But for our family and probably 90% of military families- we didn’t have a choice in coming here. And we will leave as there’s no way we can afford to stay. Which is why we also live on base because I don’t want to contribute to the housing crisis for true locals. But we do our best to respect these islands. Which is why I talk about buying local and respecting the land and people in the video. Just trying to help those with island fever and help those while they are here for 2-3 years.
@Dabdemonz. I was watching a video earlier that said pineapple doesn't come from Hawaii anymore. I guess if that's true, the pineapple fields could become a huge housing addition 😂
I agree! That’s why we live on base housing to try to lower the impact to the population. We are grateful everyday to be stationed here. And in another year someone will take our place and we will go somewhere else. The military presence has been pretty consistent for the last 30-50 years. What I’m surprised about is that Hawaii allows non residents to buy property since it is such a massive issue.
@@theWiggyFamilyreally? Someone commented and said they would love to live here and ur reply was I hope u do. Stop encouraging non Hawaiians to move to Hawai’i so many native Hawaiians already struggling with haoles constantly moving here
