Moved to the Big Island 3 years ago. I did study moving to Hawaii for 2 years before coming over just to make sure it will work out for us. We have never had Island fever. If we go to Hilo it feels like we had a road trip to another state! We also told our family we are parked here and not flying back. It’s been 3 years and we have no intention of changing that. So, we have lots of visitors. We love the laid back lifestyle and the warm days.

I used to live in big island and i will say ,its way different and slower there. If you are from California you will have to adapt more then others ,cause its not fast pace like it is in l.a , no six flags, you cant take motorcycle rides like you would over there , the food is expensive and sometimes not all your food you like is even sold there! Your on island time , so very relaxed and chill vibes. Your not gonna have fairs or carnvals , no baseball games ,no football, there's pretty much nothing there to do but eat and go to the water and drink kava , its completely different like completely. But i love it for that reason, i am a simple man and just love being there without all the city pollution in l.a , you can really vibe here. Just cause i said you cant do all that dont mean you cant enjoy it. Just being brutally honest

I will be in Oahu on Tuesday and will be there for 2 weeks. This is my second visit this year. Before going there I got a great book that mentioned many things including respect for the land, the culture, and the people. I love my life as a minimalist and trying to leave “no” trace. On this trip I am bringing re-usable items because I don’t want to add trash to the beautiful island. I am from Los Angeles, California. I love Hawaii so much! Aloha! Thank you for your wonderful videos.

Great video as always. I do think that there is some resentment of tourists, at least on Maui. I think it is also because a lot of people show up throwing money around acting like they own the place, while the locals live a more modest lifestyle. This is true of many tourism spots.

this is truly fascinating! I got some time to kill at work and i went down the rabbit hole of learning about different places and islands on this big blue world we live in and one of the things that caught my eye was Micronesia and how there are forms of racism from Hawaiian's. Completely caught me by surprised just from what ever travel guide and local that hops on a camera driving home the 'Aloha' spirit, which in terms to me is

Do you think I have a chance within the next two years to land a job in the tech sector in Hawaii?
The 5 languages I speak: Italian, English, French, German, Chinese. Plus I have knowledge of Japanese, Spanish and Russian.

As local Hawaiian, born/raised, have No Idea what daffy-nition of "Island Fever" entails. To me, "island fever" occurs when people try to hard to fit in, only to be met by ridicule, scorn & derision. If you Really, Truly want to fit in w/island culture... STOP! Trying So Hard to be "accepted!" Adjust S-L-O-W-L-Y a Single step at a time. You have to Crawl b4 U learn how to Walk, b4 U learn how to Run.... It's A Marathon, Not A Sprint!

Hi you seem to be a very nice person and I agree with a lot of things that you said. But there are bad things about Hawaii that should be said about paradise. There is a lot of crime here. Just park your car on a public road overnight and and when you come back the next day tires and wheels will be gone and windows will be smashed and that happens in good areas very often. I live in a condo complex and had my 2 month old scooter stolen in a good area. And homeless is a big problem here and should never be sugarcoated.

When people ask me what ethnicity I am, my answer is often, “I’m Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipino, haole.” I’m not being derogatory to myself. My dad was a white man. It all comes down to intent and sensitivity. We also had a blonde cousin who we called “haole boy.” My husband is light skinned with hazel eyes. Although he is 50% Hawaiian, he gets called “haole Hawaiian” all the time. I am sorry to anyone who’s been called a haole in a derogatory way.

I know "Moving to Hawaii" isn't trademarked or owned, but you do know there is another channel with that title. Seems like it would be a nice good-neighbor move to use "Adjusting to Life in Hawaii" or "What new Hawaiians need to know."

Even if I was a billionaire, no F (Censored) way would I ever want to move to Hawaii! I would go insane with island fever, big name performers like Bruce Springsteen rarely include Hawaii on their performing tours, and when they do good luck getting tickets, and the locals will not accept you! If you are a resident of Hawaii, you absolutely cannot be a Hawaiian, unless you are born ethnically a Hawaiian, and I sympathize with why Hawaiians resent outsiders. Ironically, I have heard there are mainlanders who have moved to Hawaii and love it there. Is that true? If you visit Hawaii, do not steal any sand or lava rocks for souvenirs because of the Madam Pele curse!

I used to live in Oahu. I absolutely hated there. Island life just isn't for me. Lots of Whites folks do go there and a lot of them like it but A LOT of them also don't like it. It's bit of both. Majority of mainland people that I know went back to the Mainland after only 1 to 3 years which is very short. Music scene on that Island is all about reggae music, nothing else. They only listen to reggae which I can't stand. Education and school system is terrible, jobs and opportunity is also awful. Lots of racism, lots of homeless, and the locals are all drug addicts. Plenty of bad people, criminals and knuckleheads are on the island. Hawaii ain't worth it. It's super expensive too. Pay 2-3 times the cost of living for what? To see better beaches? see the homeless and druggies? NO THANKS

    • @rosskardon7195

Mainlanders who like beaches should move to states such as Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, or California. At least, in those states, you will not get island fever, you will be able to take road trips, and big name performers like Bruce Springsteen and Kenny Chesney tour those states. Also in those mainland states, the cost of living is much less expensive.@@James-sn5mg
