    Look forward to more.
Would have liked you to see what the result was only revving to 7k as that seems to be where acceleration slows markedly on mine and yours kinda sounds the same, the CRF300L power curve reminds me of the old XR00R's I had except there's only half the power and torque

Very good point. After 9K HP drops drastically. I need to test this. I added this to the description and if it makes a clear difference I will post a part 2 to this video today or tomorrow.
CRF300 peak power is around 8.5K and drops like a rock after 9K so switching gear at 9K might be optimal.

I just posted an update. Thank you so much for pointing this out to me! I would have not thought of this on my own as I'm no drag racer 😂 ua-cam.com/video/rOjCeNwywIQ/v-deo.html

@@PatchedBandit Me neither, but it always made me wonder why the red line was soo high when it fairly obviously struggles to accelerate to that point, looking at the dyno graphs (dirtbike) peak power 8400rpm but it's only got 1hp less 1600rpm lower which means it's really starting to flatten off quickly, nice to see more tangible tests to confirm or dispel seat of the pants feelings 👍

Just came back from my first 2024 ride of my CRF 300L. I also bought AXP protection plate. Next in line is new suspension and possibly same rally tower. Good times.

Our fastest guy in our group is deep into the 7s in the 1/4 mile at 200-ish mph, built Blackbird. I'm slow, a 9 second guy with a stock height, length, weight ZX14R. My 14R and I did do a half mile at an airstrip in 2018 and we did 189 mph in the half, instrumented, from a standing start. That was a good ********* day at work. Instrumented testing ftw, road testing, risky...well on anything but the CRF :)

I'm gonna try and find a place where I could do this outside public roads (aka. highway) but it's hard and usually cost money.
Other problem is to get all the test bikes to the location if I do find one 😅

I have been drag racing bikes for decades now. Current is a ZX14R. However, I will eventually start playing with my CRF 300L, gotta make up for the added weight of a bash plate, crash cage rear rack/bag and hand guards, lol....

What is its maximum speed according to the speedometer?

I would exclude (depending on the number of tests) the best 3 and worst 3, so you have a fair middle ground to judge on. Not going beyond 120 km/h is okay, starting at 30 km/h eliminates some rider error. Maybe you shifted a touch too late for max accelaration. But then in real life Honda's CRF 300 first gear is so short, and with superbikes that long all you need is first gear. Starting from a red light means a level playing field for all bikes- resulting in more than just engine thrust, also gearing and clutch feeling come into play. Cheers, Günter/Nürnberg

Starting from a standstill tires, temperature, rider and all other factors play too big of a role. I’m taking the best successfull run as a result because well.. the bike did it so why not.
This can never be a 100% vacuum test with 0 variables.
The best time for each bike is as fair as this can be as sometimes I can do 4 runs sometimes I need to do 6 to get enough of a successful run.
No matter how I would calculate some average variation formula there will always be someone saying it should be done differently 😅 The more powerful the bike is the more stable the different runs are going to be. The problem with the Honda is that all the external factors are much more of a factor because the bike is supremely slow 😂

@@enduromotorradtouren Maybe I could add the averages as an extra column to the excel 🤔

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  5 місяців тому +1

I added average of all the 30-120kmh and 20-75mph runs to the excel sheet. This way anyone can see that there has been a lot of variation between runs. If the slope is too big up or down I will ofcourse not take that kind of run in to the calculations at all.

I will add that drag racing bikes is a lot harder than it looks....especially since we start from a dead stop.

So true. This is why I try to do this with the rolling speed. 2 things would happen if I would do this with all the bikes from 0 speed.. I would break a leg and not get any meaningful results 😂
