    I made a cocoon coat recently (with a massive collar that flips up and becomes the hood). It's a BEHEMOTH of fabric as the outer shell is only 3 pieces and it's floor lengh. But I made it for $10 CAD in fabric because I bought the fabric from a film set sale. I had 9 meters of this beautiful black wool, and 9 meters of red silk at $5 each and VOIALA, a coat. I also had no room in my fabric bins for the bulk so I made it immediately. The pattern I think was... $25 CAD if i remember correctly and this was the 3rd time I've used it.

    A great job on this. 70s patterns do have some oddities but I think you picked the right pattern for the fabric.

    This turned out pretty cute!
    I'm not a huge fan of 70s fashion. But can totally see this in a couple of different fabric patterns.
    Beautiful work!
    Totally agree about the lining and pockets!!

    Great choice of pattern. I love how the fashion of the 70s took inspiration from the Victorian and Edwardian times but adapted it to modern wardobes.

    I think you finally codified for me as to why I don’t like the finished 70’s patterns when I make them. THANK YOU!

      Yeah I feel like they just skip so much and choose weird construction methods!

    This came out so cute! But I do agree that it needs a lining. A plaid version with a bright colored lining would be adorable!! I am so impressed with your talent. Have a very merry holiday and boops and kisses to Spooky girl, tell her my Winter girl says Mew!

    This was really nice. I really liked the pattern and it is stunning. I could see a rich dark color working well. The wool you chose worked well too. I love the new hair colors too. :-)

    Hello from a fellow Seattleite! I loved that shot of you up the hill! What a great view! I really liked how you broke down the price of labor and materials as well as talked about the practicality of the piece. I watch a lot of sewing channel’s and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone talk about that.

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  Рік тому +2

      Thank you! I think it is important to talk about because there is such a lack of transparency in fashion

    Oof! This is beautiful! I gotta get my hands on this pattern it is such a good blend between a regular coat and a cape! You managed to perfectly describe my annoyances at each option 😂 definately weird that it has no lining but the 70s were a bit loosely goosey for that kind of thing 😂

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  Рік тому +1

    I used to have access to a fabric by the pound warehouse. I’d buy several large bags at a time & taught a Mennonite woman how to measure yards of fabric using your arms.

    I have this pattern and you've inspired me to dig it out & make it. I have a large curtain in heavy red cotton to use which is perfect because I am thinking Mrs Claus 2024. I will have some sort of detachable white faux fur trim I think. I'm eyeing up those facings in the armhole and thinking that I might be able to install a pocket in that seam... gotta have pockets!

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  Рік тому +1

      Yes I think you can 100% stick pockets there! I think your coat sounds fantastic and this is really such an easy make!

    Love this! Think you could make a fun lightweight coat for spring/fall with this pattern too! Definitely needs a lining, it’s a bit weird it doesn’t have one!

  • @katwitanruna

    I would make it in a heavy duck or canvas and line it with polar fleece for warmth and add a hood.

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  Рік тому +2

      That would be so good!

      @@HaleyMarieVintage it’s how I make my cloaks for SCA. And a deep hood so you can flip it forward to keep rain out of your face or back to give more warmth. I’m about to redo the lining in my cloak and I’m planning to add pockets. I do keep the lining & shell hemmed separately. This makes repair easier and also gives a slight pocket of air. I’ve worn one in a snowstorm and a thunderstorm. I stayed dry and warm.

    Lovely, i would get a fun floral rayon to line it. I also feel a coat doesn't feel finished until it has a lining. I actually traced a pattern off a coat i got at Goodwill and am handsewing a lining in because it's too bulky to get under my machine . Also i just want to let you know that your sewing videos really help get me going. Fridays are my Saturdays and your videos always give me the motivation to get into my sewing room and start on my projects ❤
