- Hey friends! I'm finally back with a new sewing project, a vintage 1970s Laura Ashley design that reminds me of all things Jane Austen and Bridgerton! I hope you enjoy watching the process!

I became obsessed with Laura Ashley when I discovered the Batsheva and Joanie collaborations. I stocked up on so many of their dresses, but since I am learning how to sew, I thought it would be nice to make my own using paper patterns!! I'm obsessed with finding old Gunne Sax patterns too. I wish more people would make PDFs out of their old patterns, because I think these are starting to get harder to find and more expensive too.
So cute. Love the longer length. Loved Laura Ashley. Her stores were amazing.
I’ve just discovered your channel. I loved wearing Laura Ashley back in the 80s, and this video is beautiful and relaxing. Thank you.
Isn’t sewing just magical? You learn something new with everything you sew and eventually could make any dress you could ever want!
It really is! Thank you so much for watching Dorothy! 💖
I like your long versions,I find your video's very relaxing, informative and I really look forward to seeing them
Thank you so much Cathy! I’m so glad! 💜

The dress are lovely, in all. You look so pretty in it! Your sewing technique is very familiar to me, it was nice to see :) Thanks for sharing your tutorial 💯🥰

Gorgeous and with the Bridgerton effect, it's trendy and vintage at the same time! Beautifully filmed by the way.
Thank you so much Monique! I really enjoyed filming this one! 🥰
Oh this dress is so beautiful
I’m almost certain that fabric is actually from the 70s! Unless they did a revival in the 90s! I have Laura Ashley’s from the 70s with that print ❤️
Oh wow! Thank you so much for the info!!
It’s so pretty! I just love vintage style turned “modern.” I hope you can find more vintage patterns to play with. I’m here for it! Feed me more! Lol!
Haha, yay! I have a small collection of vintage patterns and this made me want to try more! Definitely planning more soon!

I just have a quick question! I am moving to the Little Rock area and was wondering if you know of any places were I can get fabrics?
@@hayleybaylor7503 Oh my gosh amazing! Sadly we don't have many fabric options in LR, but there is a Joann fabrics and also a shop called Stitchin Post which has a few Rife Paper Co. fabrics!
You are so kind! Thanks! ❤️
Love your outfit so cute !
Thank you so much Jessica! 💜
I have lots of Laura Ashley fabrics. I even have a Laura Ashley sewing machine lol. I love this dress to pretty for my area though I'm in farm country lol
Oh wow! Haha, I think it's not the most practical dress, but I loved the design too much not to make one!
Thank you for this lovely tutorial, loved the background music too. Do you have a tutorial for a 3/4 puffy sleeve with elastic in 2 places?
Hi Lauren! That's really a good dress. Can't believe you can make such beautiful dress out of a cotton fabric with that lovely print. 😍 May I ask how much fabric you used for that project? Looking forward to more vintage dresses videos from you. 💕
You’re always beautiful
It ’s a very cute fabric❤️That looks a lot like you.
Thank you so much! My mom always loved Laura Ashley-- so she named me Lauren Ashley! 😂 I just looked at the Japanese website! Everything is so pretty! 😊
Omg I adore this dress, so dreamy! Well done! The lace was the perfect touch! 🥰
Thank you so much Allison! I kept going back and forth on whether to add lace or not, but I'm glad I did! 🥰
Que bonito, da gusto verte coser
muchas gracias!!
Beautiful dress 👏😊 I use pinking shears to neaten my edges, anyone else 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you so much Moyra! I need to get some pinking shears!
I think the fabric may be 70s as I have the original dress with the same print & it has the 70s label inside x
Lindo😍😍😍😍
Really lovely - I love all things Laura Ashley and you did a super job with this dress!!! Would you mom be willing to share the source for the wooden garden arch?
Thank you so much Heather! I've checked with my mom, and the arch is from Gardner's Supply Company! 💗
@@LaurenJohnson Thanks so much! I will look for one!
I see where reformation has the cutest Jordan dress it's kind of a mini though.
I'll have to check it out!
This is such a lovely dress! the pictures in the garden were so pretty!
I'm not sure you or someone else in the comments can help but I have a seeing question. I think I'm seeing that the seams aren't all even. For example, at the shoulder and side bodice seams it looks off by about 1/8 - 1/4". I find this to be the case especially when I use vintage patterns. I wonder if it's my cutting, my fabric choice, my technique (i.e., the difference is part of the pattern and I should be easing the seams together to fit, hard to do at a shoulder seam), or the actual pattern pieces. Do you just ignore the difference and keep going? (What I tend to do but feel like it's not probably the correct approach.) I hope I'm being clear. Do you have any suggestions or preferences for how you approach seam length discrepancies?
Make sure you are stay stitching the arm holes and the neck. Your fabric may be stretching before sew. So do the stay stitching right after you cut.
Hi Tracy, thank you so much! I think there could be several factors at play here-- I know sometimes when I'm cutting out pieces in layers, the lower layer of fabric will be slightly different than the upper layer. I've read that mass produced clothing sizes vary so much because they are cut out in such thick layers! Sometimes I will unfold my pieces, and check the edges with the pattern before sewing, but honestly most of the time I ignore it if it's a small discrepancy. Rachel's tip about stay stitching is great as well, especially on fabrics that are thinner or more delicate. I hope this helps!
Great tip, thank you Rachel!
@@LaurenJohnson i've learned it the hard way! hopefully, someone else won't have too!

I liked the full length dress before you cut it shorter.

I'm cringing about the hem. My home economics teacher, who would have included a dress of this era since it would have been contemporary, would have marked you down for not letting it hang to allow the bias to relax.
Ah, interesting, that's something I typically only do with more circular skirts or heavier fabrics!
@@LaurenJohnson every skirt, young lady, bias or not. I can still hear her almost 50 years later.
Love it! Thanks for sharing!
It’s really strange for me to hear something from the 1990s referred to as vintage.
Am I vintage? 🤔
Haha, same here, but I'm told in the clothing world it's anything 20 years old and up! 😂 Guess that makes me vintage too!
