    "Fulfill its rightful purpose" - YES! That's exactly how I feel when I cut into an unused pattern from 60+ years ago. These are utilitarian objects and not museum pieces.

      @KR-ue1gd 3 роки тому +8

      @@sharonrimsza7960 I agree... I always alter the pattern to fit my modern body (I have a bigger bust, smaller hip-spring, usually), so why cut up the original, which might be over a hundred years old, and which is itself a record of the styles and shapes of its time? Instead, I trace it to new paper, make my alterations on the new paper, and go from there.

      My grandparents have a 'yearbook' from the 60s, covering the events of the year, scientific discoveries, fashion, who died, so on and so forth, but in the fashion section, there is a photo of the latest fashions of the mod sixties, from the 1920s!

      Indeed! The 60's took a lot of inspiration from the late 1920's. Very cool to see the parallels. An example of how very inspired the 60's by it was, you'll find quite a bit of pictures from that decade hiding in the authentic 20's pictures on Pinterest especially.

      There are companies, like Wearing History, Mrs. Depew and Lady Marlowe, that do indeed make reproductions similar to this. But also, the larger companies tend to not reproduce line for line, but adjust to a more modern block then reproduce. I actually dove into the big 4’s reproductions and why they aren’t the best.

    It looks fantastic! I agree on 1920's fashion. If you have Wide hips and broad shoulders and you look like a block instead of an elegant waif. It fits so few body types. I love it. I would love to have seen that contrasting fabric on the hem so that the chartreuse color was through the whole garment. But there is no reason to be disappointed by the final product. This one triggered a memory from many, many years ago when I convinced my mom to buy an expensive duffle coat that I would wear "for years" > the selling point. It was lined with a wool plaid that stuck to whatever I had on and would crawl up my back within minutes of wearing it. Forcing me to continually pull it back down while I had it on. Super unflattering and irritating, leaving me with coat lining anxiety, I guess.

    I love it, to my surprise! I learned a lot through your mistakes, or your detours. Thanks for leaving them in. So sorry to hear about your fur babies, it is heartbreaking. 2020 has been a really tough year.

    This turned out so wonderful. I love the daring choices you make with fabrics and your green coats always turn out to be my favorite. Giiiirl you need to be less hard on your self. We are always going to be mean to our selves but you really deserve all of the praise you get and your sewing skills are hot fire.

    So glad to see you, and seeing you making coats. I have a dream coat project I finally, hopefully, getting started on and seeing you also making coats are inspiring me to get on with mine! (Have not made a coat before so there are many things that are new to me.)

    I love your 1920's coat, it's rather lovely! I really love how you work out a fix for pretty much any sewing problem you come across with a pattern. Somethimes when I'm sewing something which isn't going well I take inspiration from your ways of making something work... so thank you for your help & inspiration! Best wishes to you & your family for the holidays.

    Beautiful coat! I enjoyed watching your process of figuring out this pattern. When I work with patterns like this with very little clear instruction, I usually pull out my vintage dressmaking books to figure out how to do it. You make it look easy!

    I love this coat! So colorful and beautiful! And you nailed the 1920s silhouette - which can be tricky but adorable when done right.
