I am with you on the discomfort of pants. I wear dresses 90% of the time, especially around the house. I am more inclined to put on pants when I leave the house. I live in the far south area of Texas, where it’s very hot most of the time. When I go out, I almost always wear knit Capri pants and sleeveless blouses. I strongly prefer natural fibers, and just lately I have surprisingly found a good number of linen and linen/cotton blouses that I like at Walmart. I wear loose dresses around the house, and when I leave, I am still comfortable, but I feel a little more appropriate for the public in the pants. However, if it is comfort I want, it is a dress or skirt I will put on. I am with you about the blue jeans. After you’ve owned them about three years they get soft enough to be somewhat comfortable, but there’s no stretch to them. I am very glad that the pants with stretch have become more popular. Since I’m 64, I don’t wear stretch pants that show my behind or my front without a blouse long enough to make it look decent. I just feel that that’s immodest. And yes, I think that all these people wearing blouses that end where their bra does and stretchy pants on the bottom look very very immodest lol. But that’s just me.
My issue with skirts and dresses in winter is my sensory issues with tights. I like looser organic fabric and most thights are not that. I use cotton leggings sometimes but it's not the same look. Fun to see what someone else shops and looks out for! I got into garment sewing this year and it's been great. Almost no fast fashio purchases.
I love the adjustable pants you found. I’d love to find some like that in the future. My shopping rule is “will I wear this as many times as it costs”. Granted there are some things I know I won’t wear that often and I still treat myself but it’s rare. I’m very very frugal 😅toodleoo 😃
I've found here in the UK, charity shops (thrift stores) have become more expensive recently. I don't understand it, as many signs are also appearing saying that they can't accept any more donations, or only with an appointment, due to too much stock. Something wrong about the business model there. But in my city there is one charity shop that sells things which have remained unsold at its main stores for only £1 each item. I've bought super cute pure wool coats and capes, and 100% linen and cotton skirts and blouses for just £1 each! It saves unsold items from landfills and helps me afford the kind of clothes I like. And the charity itself makes a huge amount from its £1 items, as the place is always packed and people buy several things at a time.
Those first psir of pants look just like the Magic Pants sewing pattern by Anne Tilley. I made a split tartan pair and they are literally the most comfy pants i habe ever worm and highly recommend. Amne is a textile artist but started doing patterns great instructions and tutorial videos.
oh geez, what a score on those clothes...i honestly can say there is not one item that isnt gorgeous and totally suit you...that top you are wearing is wonderful...everything works so well...tfs:)
Those lace blouses are just stunning. They look so elegant to me. Are you actually wearing them to work? You would just be the bell of the ball there, that’s for sure.
Something I’ve found helpful for curtailing purchasing, especially as someone who knits and sews, is using WWII rationing cards. They’re obviously not a perfect one-to-one for those of us who are sustainability minded these days, as they had different priorities (wool, etc) when coming up with that system, but I’ve found it fairly useful over the past year. Retro Claude has some videos on it and a free guide on her Ko-Fi, if ends up being something you’re interested in. (I’ve looked for a climate specific rationing system, but haven’t found anything yet). Happy Holidays!
that is really interesting! I find if I go too restrictive I'll just break all the rules but I'll have to see if the system would have enough flexibility
If there's something I'm not sure about at the thrift store, I try to make myself put it back and be like, if I want this enough to come back tomorrow, then that means I really want it and will feel better about buying it. I definitely fall into the habit of impulse thrifting because I'm afraid it's my only chance to get something, then I regret it even if it was just $8 or $10.
I'm the same! i love jeans but they are so uncomfortable 😭 skirts overalls and dresses are so comfy ❤ love a good thrift haul hope ur pain resides and you can do the sewing you want ☺️
I've always been a dress person not really a skirt person but this winter all I have wanted to wear is thick jumpers and jeans! Not sure if it is an age thing or what but the last few years I've just been far to cold in the winter and it makes me very grumpy 😂 so I'm trying to make a conscious effort to make some trousers that are warm and comfortable
I know I’ve told you this before lol but cashmerette has an adjustable waist pant pattern you’d like (meriam trousers). But, have you checked out the Spaghetti Western Henrietta skirt pattern? It has a side gathered skirt and I think you’d like it. I’ve been thinking about sewing it up. I’ve seen people use the gathered side panels around the whole skirt and it makes it look like it has a pointed yoke. Just a random thing I’d thought you might want to look at.
Cashmerette has a pattern for pants that expand if you want to try making your own. Fits a fuller bum, too. I have the pattern but need to make a muslin before I envest in good pant fabric.
That box pleat skirt was really nice. :-) I think it is so interesting that you wear skirts and dresses. I live in WI and it is rare to see anyone wearing a dress and/or skirt...unless they *have* to. Like to a wedding, party, etc. Occasionally in summer there may be a few people that wear sun dresses, but it is not the norm. My work has about 2000 people and I can't remember the last time I have seen someone in a skirt or dress. So, it is always fun to see you with the skirts and dresses. I can't imagine them as comfortable, I believe you do find them so and that is fascinating to me. :-) The rainbow blouse is so pretty.
I don't feel like people wear them a ton in Seattle either, like I'm definitely way more dressed up than most folks here. Also from my experience traveling in the states I feel like the coasts in general wear more dress as do Southern regions in the US and I think part of that is climate, WI is very cold to be wearing dresses in so you'd have to be really smart about layering which I think most people won't put effort into.
@ Well, I just love that you do and that you do you!! 😀. I love your hair and just how self aware you are. I think so many people can find value in not only your sewing, but your thoughts and views. 💕
Its so shocking that its hard to find things under 10 at so many goodwills. I hear so many people complain about it, but so far it hasn't held true for my area (maybe because i live in a poor area with a large population of elderly people with large closets) My local goodwill has a pricing system where every type of item is priced the exact same and the only things over 10 are suits, heavy coats, and gowns, all still 12 or under. Non-gown dresses are 8, blouses are 4.50 or 5.50 depending on sleeve length, etc. Specific color tags are 50% off for the week. Furniture is rarely more than 20 and often free or under $5. Every month or two there's a sale where either everything in the store is 50% off, OR a $2 sale where every clothing item (or everything that's not furniture) is just $2, including the gowns suits and coats. And sometimes they include the furniture if they have a backlog. They had a full piano in there for 99 cents once a year or two ago. The quality is all a pretty solid mix too, lots of old stuff, but some fast fashion too. Either way, love everything you got! They are all gorgeous!
It so depends on the area, I've definitely been to goodwills with more normal pricing I think it is because they are all run differently by regions so they aren't consistent. I love when I find one with reasonable pricing. Thank you!
I don’t think those denim skirts look very similar at all. They are very different colors. Also, the darker one seems more solid, and the lighter one is more mottled. Just entirely different.
i love that the slips and raincoats practically match you hair :D
Beautiful vintage finds ❤😊
❤❤❤❤❤
The rain coat dress is gorgeous
I am totally a tism shopper when it comes to clothes, I will get 1 and if I like it I get 3 more in different colors LOL
I was like that too. Now I sew 1 and if I love it, I’ll sew more of them lol
Me too! I.don't sew butban so glad that you are getting better!! So appreciate this channel and community!!! Happy Holidays to everyone!!!😂
Loving the hair! 😊
And glad you're beginning to feel better.

My Aunt once told me to only buy a piece if you can think of 3 others things you can wear it with. Its a good place to start.
Oh girl, those tan pants looked so complementary on your bootie.

I usually don't comment on a person's appearance but your hair is rockin! I really like the box pleat skirt. Merry Christmas 🌻🍄

I'm also team skirts! Pants always seem to fit awkwardly on my body and I've decided that life is too short to wear uncomfortable clothes
Great finds! Love seeing your pics!🎉

You’re right it’s hard to tell, but those pants looked either purple or purple/black.

I enjoy pants because they hug my legs. It's a sensory thing.
