the grayle is a purifier and the sawyer is a filter...no comparison

The Grayl removes waterborne pathogens and filters many chemicals (including PFAS and VOCs), pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, flavors and odors. The Sawyer Squeeze doesn't. That's a plus for Grayl. You didn't mention this .

You're right and I should have.

The only reason ive been considering Grayl. Have thought about pairing the Sawyer with a UV pen but not sure how effective it would be, apparently chemicals and heavy metals still wont be purified away. Hope sawyer makes a purifier version someday soon. Aquamira Frontier Max purifies water to the same quality Grayl does, so that's worth looking into, but it's sold out at the moment.

Interesting review. Thanks for the explanation. I'll have to try the cnoc bag. Ive always used the Smart water.

The Cnoc bag makes the water collection process way way easier.

@@tampajimmie11yes but one filters bacteria the other purifies water of viruses and heavy metals.

You are comparing apples and oranges. The Grayl purifies almost everything, including many heavy metals. You don't have to add purification drops/tablets with Greyl so you can drink it right after filtering. And because it pulls out so much stuff, the water tastes a LOT better. People who travel to developing countries take Greyls for this reason. I use both, the Sawyer when I am going ultra light. I also keep a Sawyer in my day back for emergencies.

Like almost all water treatment system reviews, it completely ignores the core functionality: how effective is the system at making your water safe to drink.

I didn't think to include that. I should have. I assumed most would already know that if they were watching my video but if I'm going to do gear reviews I shouldn't assume people already have that information

Maybe you should get Jimmie a microscope, slides and a some petri dishes.

Nice review Jimmie! Still can’t wrap my head around that Grail. My friend Andy from Metro on the move loves it. I’m still a Sawyer all the way! 👍

For me it's a specific piece of gear that I will use in specific circumstances.

Good Review Jimmie! Ive also been a Sawyer guy for the longest! I did recently get the Grayl and ive used it twice. it is handy in a day hiking scenario, or in the kayak while paddling(though its tough to press in the kayak) i still prefer my Sawyer and a gravity bag in camp! Just my preference i guess!

My thought is if I'm standing somewhere fishing or on a boat, the grayl makes sense.

I have both and if Im not moving more than 12km or something, I take the grayl, especially if I'm filtering for me plus one or more people. The grayl wins on speed and ease, as well as removing chemicals if you're close to civilisation and don't know about the water source. Just sucks that it's so bulky and heavy.

Question for you, what are your thoughts on Tannins for both products here in Florida? Grayl precautions show do not use GeoPress in water with high tannins.

    • @tampajimmie11
      @tampajimmie11  9 місяців тому +1

I would probably not use it in that situation. I'm mostly planning on using it on out of state fly fishing trips and here in Florida at a spring fed lake I like to fish. For almost all other camping scenarios the sawyer squeeze is just a better option anyway.

I feel like the grayl is a very specialized piece of gear. But that's not a bad thing.
