What I like about this lore channel vs. others is that the tone is clear, the content focused, and the information presented as "fact" vs speculation as if the history of Star Wars actually exists. It's a fun way to revisit all this lore without pulling out assorted books.
The T 95 Headhunter looks like a pretty solid ship for every pirat/smuggler or mercinary group to me. An old model, so enemies would tend to underestimate the ship. The basic model would be pretty cheap and affordable, but highly adjustbale with lots of modifications, so it could house more efficient weapons, shields, hyperdrives etc to create more damage and be perfect for hit and run. It somehow reminds me of the larger YT-series in its possible use in points of modifications and durability over a long period of time, regarding the fact that it was used prior to the clone wars and also during the time of the first order.
The V wing should've been still used by the Empire instead of being discarted. It could've been for an elite Imperial pilot force only modified. Having hyperdrive, shields, life support, missiles or whatever. Even it could've been used by The Royal Guard like those red TIE INTERCEPTORS that escorted Palpatine's shuttle only with the modifications I've mentioned and painted completely red.
Having a special _Jedi only Starfighter_ line does have the disadvantage that the enemy knows that *the pilot is a Jedi* and therefore … Is far more skilled than a regular pilot, so you should be on your guard. Is _priority target number one,_ as they can't be replaced like a clone can. IMHO A better option would be to make a high quality variant of a existing starfighter such as the Z-95 (a GTI version), modified for Jedi idiosyncrasies and able to exploit Jedi reflexes, but externally having a similar profile. That way the enemy may underestimate until they've engaged and learnt the hard way. Also a Z-95 is versatile and useful for long range special missions as it doesn't need hyperspace rings, and doesn't scream Jedi if discovered. But then maybe Paps wanted to have a target painted on every Jedi snubfighter?
I mean, irl it's just so that people could tell them apart from the clone fighters, the in-world reasoning probably wasn't thought up until a year after the design was finished lmao
I mean whenever you look at the dumb or head-scratching choices made in the clone wars it almost always comes back to being small pieces of Palpatine's plan done on purpose for one reason or another. Heck sometimes he was just being a d*ck, like when he had Mace Windu assigned to him a large portion of the time and forced to take his orders as chancellor...he just wanted to troll Mace without him knowing.
A. The Jedi fighter design existed before the clone wars B. Droid fighters aren’t going to tell the difference between them and even if they do I doubt the tactics would change If you ask them to step up their game then you designed the droid wrong It should always be at its maximum combat effectiveness If it isn’t then there is a different problem
The ARC 170 is a star wars version of the fleet air arm's reconnaissance fighter concept, following the theme of star wars fighter combat being wwII In Space
Average_ Joe it was too good for the Republic, apparently. Or not good enough for dolphins. Kind of strange that the Z-95 gets a pass but the Y-wing gets shunted into OT territory. What about the original T.I.E. Prototype fighter! It was designed in the old republic! Oh......canon. :p
Yeah, I never ran around with the recon platoon when I was active Army, but the recon platoons (there are no "units" of recon), and the Pathfinder units are pretty hush-hush snoop and scoot, snipers, sneak in and scout out stuff, set up and mark LZ's and DZ's for the main assault, and such. They absolutely don't want to get detected because if they do, they're pretty much going to be hammered shit immediately, not to mention that their main mission is likely blown in any case. However, what I'd consider similar in concept is the tactical concept of recon by fire, where you light up an area where enemies are likely at to provoke a response. So, if that's the case, then the "ARC" does make sense, as they'd come in, are big bubbas that pose a relatively significant threat and could be detected, and so, would likely pull out enemy forces in the vicinity, which then the ARC's sensor suite could detect and pinpoint, and then they'd have the punch to engage if they could take them out, or to fight their way out if they needed to do that.
@@calvzkeith Yes, the Marine Corps does have some "recon" designated special operations units with the Force Recon. They're not part of the Army though, unless you're being exceptionally generalized and sweeping in what you call "the" Army. *shrugs* Anyway, I'd still argue that their mission profiles don't really well match up with what the ARC is/does and is good at and bad at. If they're doing green ops, they're sneaky and hiding and the ARC isn't good for that, and if they're doing black ops, it'd still not really be ideal for going in alone to prosecute a mission and finish off a target "as is", either. It's just really a stretch to try and make a vehicle "name type" stretch out to conform to and be based on or reminiscent of an entire service branch's organizational approach and capabilities. Just not how that really works.
@Celebmacil I always saw the ARC-170 as similar to the US armoured cavalry. A heavy screening force that can destroy, fix or delay enemy recce & vanguard echelons and report EN strength & position, but not meant to engage the F-Ech alone (main force). I could possibly see them effectively being used as a fast bomber formation against larger ships in the large battles, however would need screening by smaller superiority fighters.
I love the aesthetic of the Eta-2 and it's probably my favorite fighter in all of SW so far, but if I were to choose a clone wars era fighter to fly, it would be the Z-95...
Assuming I am a Jedi, and therefor be allowed to do a lot of customization to my ship, I'd take an Arc 170, strip out the two rear seats (making the rear gun remote controlled) and add a larger power plant. Than beaf up the shields, add a pair of fast firing light lasers in the nose, and an ion cannon strapped under the fuselage. No where near as maneuverable as an Eta-2, but a stable platform with a lot of guns, meaning I could plug away at range. That tends to be my style in flight sims anyway, doesn't matter if they are more maneuverable than me if they don't survive that initial head on.
Well, 'aggressive recon' in this place means, you can send a bunch of Arc 170's to go around places, find out if the enemy's there, hit targets of opportunity, maybe, see some of who and what shoots back, then report that. They probably did a lot of patrols with a couple of those operating independently. I't's harder to 'stealth' when you don't know what you're sneaking up on, when. Or if you have to punch through some defensive picket or whatnot.
Or I wish they upgraded the shields because of the fact when ever one crashed, 3 clones went with it. So with better shields, less would have been destroyed, and I love this ship most out of all of star wars.
Kai Ericsson-Walters all those little pocket fighters like the ETA-2 and V-wing were supposed to escort the ARC, but they were too busy flying into capital ship superstructures or just straight flying off screen

Aggressive Recon aka *_raiding._* And the ARC-170 is well suited for that. It jumps in, strafing mid sized ships and faculties with it's turbolasers while launching torpedoes, the tailgunner keeping picket fighters off their six and blasting targets that they've done runs past. The copilot takes over shifts for longer jumps and patrols, and being clones they aren't embarrassed with each other _using bedpans in flight._ It's basically a heavily gunned Y-Wing in operations. If the ARC 170 was used in the same way as a TBF, it would have been better on-screen. Instead they used it like a BF 110 in the Battle of Britain, with about the same effect.
Perhaps a video on the different experiments conducted by each faction (Sepies, Rep, Imperial and Rebel), on different species and types of weapons all in 1 Video (e.g. Imperial Experience for Dark Troopers). And then experiments conducted by both the Jedi (old and New) and the Sith.
The reason why the Empire looked like it went down in technology is because they needed something easy to manufacture plus the tie fighters were good in large numbers
FrostHD a series of integrated and modular fighters/bombers/transports/interceptors is easier to maintain, field and train on than an amalgam of disparate ships from numerous manufacturers and boasting radically different control schemes.
After you finish the CSA and Republic capital ships you should do a special ep. on legends ships that stick out: the mandalorian ships, the yuzzhan vong ships, the Chiss ships, the Jabitha, ect.
V-19s technically can't be fit in carriers all that well, better than a headhunter in length and width, but unstackable. In the newest FFG Star Wars sourcebook they finally specify that a Venator with V-19s can't fit the 420 fighters. Only when it's packing V-Wings and Eta-2s.
The GAR is the gold standard for starfighter corps. There's a plethora of high-quality ships to choose from, each of which specialize for certain roles. The headhunter & torrent are good, all-purpose starfighters meant to engage in dogfights and target larger ships. The v-wing & eta actis are very fast, agile interceptors, that while lightly armed, are deadly in the hands of skilled pilots. The arc 170 & y-wing are long-range, hyperdrive-equipped capital ship killers with rear defenses to guard important assault missions. Complaints mostly stem from misuse in the wrong situations, rather than flaws with the designs themselves.
Aggressive reconnaissance is also the taxignation of armored calvary scouts in the u s army. That is a scouting force mounted on bradley's with abrams support
So I know that the Delta 7 was at the very start of the Clone Wars and had the modified astromech socket, but what about the Jedi Interceptors used during the Clone Wars, as seen in the TV Show? The ones from the show had a full astromech socket in front of the cockpit as opposed to being on the side. Was this just a modified version of the Delta 7 or something new?
I truly hate how the Z95 headhunter doesn't get the credit it deserves like it is the first template of the xwing not the arc 170 they just got the idea of adding another wing from the 170 while they pretty much copied the z95 and just added 2 more engines witch the orginals did have 4 engines as well the z95 was actually even credit to be the predecessor of Xwing
I mean seriously, talk about a couple capital ships worth out of an EXECUTOR CLASS STAR DREADNOUGHT DISNEY WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?! there's enough resources there that several mon calamari ships could have been made, or multiple hundred starfighters, literally enough to change what happens in the Last Jedi
I would classify the V-19 as a mix of a fighter and interceptor, Z-95 as a fighter replcement to the V-19, V-wing as a light interceptor, Y-wing as a bomber, and I would classify the ARC-170 as a heavy fighter/bomber like the B-wing. the ARC-170 can be seen flying in the same battle as the Z-95 in TCW but later takes over as the main fighter by the end of the war. I would say it evolved like this because the Seps could easily manufacture many Vulture droids and thus they didn't need to be very effective, just have large numbers to swarm. so because of the limited number of clones they switched from the V-19 to the more capable Z-95 wich could survive better, then later when the ARC-170 entered service too many clones were dying and so the ARC-170 got shifted to being the main fighter as it was very durable and it's rear gunner can protect it from chases and it had heavy torpedoes and bombs, essentially the low number of clones later in the war forced the Republic to focus more on a heavier but still survivable fighter. the ARC-170 could be shot down ussually of thier were a ton of droid on their tail with very few squadmates nearby. essentially the Republi switched to quality over quantity
The Delta doesn't appear to be designed for the Jedi. You'd never design a Jedi starfighter without an inbuilt hyperdrive. After all, long range, UNSUPPORTED missions are a major part of the Jedi's missions (such as searching for Grevious.) I always thought that it was an off the shelf option.
Either that or the dolphins have secretly built a doomsday device in the marina trench and are trying to leave before it implodes. "So long so long and thanks for all the fish" hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
HEY! Those dolphins were likely just trying to say "So long and thanks for all the fish!" to you before they left the planet! They were here a while ago, and even bought me beer. Don't be so judgmental, Alan!
There actually IS a real world version of aggressive recon....it's called "recon by fire" where by you fire on the enemy and you learn what weapons your enemy has deployed by what they fire back at you....and if you look at real world "recon" vechiles they are not exactly quiet so "recon by stealth" is something of a misnomer
But what class are they all? Is the Z-95 a fighter or interceptor? Same question for V-19 Torrent. And the V-Wing. Though BF2 depicts the V-Wing as an interceptor but it didn't come until way later as war was ending and just for escort mostly.....so Idk
The Republic military: The Z-95 is a good fighter, but we would like something with a little more firepower. Incom: Okay, here's the the ARC-170 it has the firepower of a gunship in a bulky fighter frame. Someone at Incom a few years later: Yeah the ARC-170 was a little to much. How about this design I came up with called the X-Wing. Empire: No, we are going with the TIE frame for everything now.
With the ARC-170 it was more like the firepower of a fighter in a gunship frame. Needed better shields and more firepower to make up for it's large size and relatively low maneuverability..
Generation Tech, what would have happened in the prequel era if the Jedi had lead the republic, how would the order differ and what events in the galaxy would or wouldn’t happen? How would the Sith grand plan have been effected? Would the Clone Wars had been what it was? Would the Jedi still have been wiped out?
Something else, and unrelated to my previous comment, and more in line with the content of this video: The Empire, and by extension, the Republic before it, had an insane level of manufacturing facilities to construct the sheer number of spacecraft we have seen in the movies, let alone inferred across the galaxy. I really have to wonder how many planets/celestial bodies were raped of their "resources" in constructing all of these ships, let alone TWO space stations the size of small moons!!!!! Where did they get all that metal?!
There are entire vacant, generally empty star systems out there, that could be stripmined. Also, in the Legends novel Death Star, we see how smelting and hull metal work on the scale of the DS is done (page 93)
he'll have to wait for ep 9 first, and the First Order has essentially the same fighters as the Empire, same for Resistance and Rebels. Tie fighter is you cannon-fodder, Tie SF is just upgraded to have a turret, hyper-drive, and torpedoes. Tie Silencer may be an interceptor or just Kylo's personal fighter only. and we saw what looked like a Tie Interceptor in the ep 9 trailer. so no need for a video. Resistance has X-wing, A-wing, and the resistance bomber is just a large extremely slow heavy bomber. which could be effective if they had heavier armor. but Ryan Round Head Johnson had no concept of how a Space Bomber works and made them look shitty as well as a shitty movie too. RIP the Sequels and the future of Star Wars.
Sorry at the start; if dolphins had have wanted to rule the Earth rather than the Seas they would have, and did have, become us! Basis of evolutionary history; Orcas branched from the chain that came to us when they went BACK to the sea... because it was easier, I guess. The point is that they are not now interested in the land, although we are conceding territory to them, because of carbon emissions. I'm curious; From my understanding the Z-95 Head hunter was not specifically designed as a fighter but rather a blockade runner and contained a small but secure cargo capacity for transport. It was flexible in design structure which was why both the X-wing and the airspeeder variant (I can't remember the designation, sorry) that Luke flew on Tatooine were of a similar design. Or am I just old?
What I like about this lore channel vs. others is that the tone is clear, the content focused, and the information presented as "fact" vs speculation as if the history of Star Wars actually exists. It's a fun way to revisit all this lore without pulling out assorted books.

The ARC 170 reminds me of the TBF Avenger from WW2
If the ARC 170 was used in the same way as a TBF, it would have been better on-screen. Instead they used it like a BF 110 in the Battle of Britain, with about the same effect.
And with a little of the P-80 Shooting Star, especially the nose...?
Northrop P61 Black Widow because of the two tiered canopy.
Reminds me more of a Stuka. Even has the big ol guns like the antitank stuka and screeches when diving
Great series
I like Alan's videos. His videos are always informational. Have you covered the "Lost Tribe of the Sith" yet?
The reason why the Empire looked like it went down in technology is because they needed something easy to manufacture plus the tie fighters were good in large numbers
FrostHD a series of integrated and modular fighters/bombers/transports/interceptors is easier to maintain, field and train on than an amalgam of disparate ships from numerous manufacturers and boasting radically different control schemes.
Love your videos
The delta 7 is my all time favorite star fighter
I love Generation Tech!
I have been looking forward for this
After you finish the CSA and Republic capital ships you should do a special ep. on legends ships that stick out: the mandalorian ships, the yuzzhan vong ships, the Chiss ships, the Jabitha, ect.
I love this series!
Can’t wait for 400k, keep up the great content
Nice video
This dude actually being funny out here
U have a good radio voice very smooth
You da man Alan, thanks for another really cool vid!
Thank you very much your show is super good, I am sorry I don't have the funds to build any of these ship. Please keep up the good work.
CIS AAT Tank (Star Wars) vs Covenant Wraith (Halo).
Aggressive reconnaissance is also the taxignation of armored calvary scouts in the u s army. That is a scouting force mounted on bradley's with abrams support
Little late here, but seeing "Corp" instead of "Corps" in the thumbnail gave me Forrest Whitaker eye even a year later.
Talk about all the species that can have children with each other and what the kids look like.
Modified version i think it was called delta 7b
I truly hate how the Z95 headhunter doesn't get the credit it deserves like it is the first template of the xwing not the arc 170 they just got the idea of adding another wing from the 170 while they pretty much copied the z95 and just added 2 more engines witch the orginals did have 4 engines as well the z95 was actually even credit to be the predecessor of Xwing
what about the BTL-B Y-wing?
Someone: why dont people just scavange the ravanger on jakku?
Everyone else thats a fan of star wars: *Y O U R E N O T S U P O S E T O S A Y T H A T*
Please do Republic capital ships
The ddc (dolphin dreadnought carrier) is taking heavy fire and it’s shields are almost destroyed victory is almost ours
The Aether Sprite was basically an f1 car with blasters
Last night I had a nightmare about dolphins breaking into my house. From now on I think I’m gonna sleep with a harpoon
After all, long range, UNSUPPORTED missions are a major part of the Jedi's missions (such as searching for Grevious.)
I always thought that it was an off the shelf option.
Either that or the dolphins have secretly built a doomsday device in the marina trench and are trying to leave before it implodes.
"So long so long and thanks for all the fish" hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
Great vid thank you
I love you Allen
We must stop the Dolphin menace!
HEY! Those dolphins were likely just trying to say "So long and thanks for all the fish!" to you before they left the planet! They were here a while ago, and even bought me beer. Don't be so judgmental, Alan!
We have a xeno sympathizer among us
Yeah more great content
Anyone remember the Starfighter games?
The V19 looks like the Starcraft Terran Wraith.
HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I please a video on this wonderful piece of alien slaughtering technology. It is the prototype from the halo anime short
There any chance we'll get to see videos like this except for infantry weapons of certain factions?
ARC-170 Is my type of fighter,
Alan looking S W O L
I saw a dolphin while I was surfing today. It was a scary time
Don't headhunters usually favor concussion missile loadouts?
Alan good video
Is the z95 basically the Honda civic of star wars?
It I had to chose I’d have a Z95 head hunter with shorter wings closer to the x wing probably mode it to have a ion cannon in the nose of the ship
In Legends, Talon Karde's smuggling org had Z-95's with an ion cannon replacing the missle launcher
Cool I didn’t know that
V-19 is like Starcraft Terran units (Wraith) ! :D
Allan, hi...dont if you haver ever done a video about what became of Courasant, if you did, send me the link, if not...can you please do one!?
Modified Half-Asstromech.
You know, I'm starting to gather that KDY REALLY likes triangles.
Yah
Arc170 is kinda like an F111 aardvark for me.
Hey Alan, what song did you use as a backing track?
Awesome
Something else, and unrelated to my previous comment, and more in line with the content of this video:
The Empire, and by extension, the Republic before it, had an insane level of manufacturing facilities to construct the sheer number of spacecraft we have seen in the movies, let alone inferred across the galaxy. I really have to wonder how many planets/celestial bodies were raped of their "resources" in constructing all of these ships, let alone TWO space stations the size of small moons!!!!! Where did they get all that metal?!
They get it by completly minning out entire planets so nothing was left that was of any value etc
Also don’t forget asteroids,
There are entire vacant, generally empty star systems out there, that could be stripmined.
Also, in the Legends novel Death Star, we see how smelting and hull metal work on the scale of the DS is done (page 93)
What about the LAAT and HMP Predator (droid gunship)?
This is Generation Tech and I am THE GUN SHOW
also Dolphins should be in the new Jaws.
Hello Allen. I love you so much. I hope you're having a great day
the ARC 170 is the IL-2 of starwars
Who is the Best Pilot ???
how to legal kill dolphins: IT'S COMIN RIGHT FOR US!!! BANG!!
Those gosh dang dolphins man
i love the naboo N1 starfighter left the rebellion after 3 1\2 years just to fly it sucks star wars galaxies faction locked space ships
Understanding the role of first order starfigther
he'll have to wait for ep 9 first, and the First Order has essentially the same fighters as the Empire, same for Resistance and Rebels.
