My Amazon store! - The VERY BEST knives & gear! - www.amazon.com/shop/metalcomplex
This is my favorite folder of all time. Sold all my $300-400+ folders to get my money back and just stick with a manix 2 now. Got a bit older and realized i was throwing my money away on dumb shit. Yeah, knives like the xm-18 are over-built and have more robust blades but i don't usually need to stab through sheet metal or beer caps with my edc.
So true for many I believe after they collect for a few years
I know this comment is 5 years old, but this actually inspired me to adopt a similar mindset. I don't have a huge collection. A Benchmade 940 and a Mini Adamas in Magnacut along with some other cheaper knives, Bucks, Civivi, etc.. The Mini is MY favorite folder of all time so I can't get rid of it. I'm gonna be getting a Manix 2 since I finally had a failure of the Omega Springs, causing me to have doubts about the "buy it for life" quality of benchmade.
Love my pm2 and manix 2 pretty equally. They both get lots of edc time and use. Both in s30v as I don’t think the upgraded steels are worth the extra cost. S30v is just fine.
The extra difficulty of sharpening the premium steels isn’t worth it to me. I’m like you, I’m a pretty big fan of S30V. I used to like 154CM when Benchmade used it and I still like it as it sharpens pretty easy. S30V however sharpens easy enough and holds its edge a little longer.
Great video! Considering this knife. I guess I’m weird because I love special run items that I can beat the tar out of and make my own. Consider an old strat, finish worn off, scratched and dented. That tells a story. Beat up your knives and let them tell a story.
I love my Manix 2way more than my Paramilitary 2. It just feels sturdier and more substantial in my hand. The ergos are way better too.
Yeah MC---the Manix 2 is truly "one of those knives" -- fits well in most hands, looks the treat and its as tough as all get out!
This video really hit home for me. I'm on the collecting side, have about 80 knives, and end up carrying my cheaper knives, like in the $30 range. I've had a manix 2xl which is a beast. But I recently picked up a sprint run manix 2 in s90v with burl g10. I'd never want to use it though, being a sprint run. So I'm planning on getting the same manix 2 you're showing here to carry because I fell in love with the knife. Feels so perfect in size, how it fits in my hand. I'm a new sub and enjoying and relating to your take on knives. Thumbs up!
Awesome! Collecting knives has such a strange effect on our "user" sense. Glad to hear you feel the same!
Just bought my first spidey and it’s a used Manix 2. Can’t wait to get it in the mail after hearing how much you love yours!
I have 5 Manix 2s. The composite blade and peelply cf gets the most carry and I use it without regard for it's safety. The only one I haven't carried is the dlc M4 and jade green. I pull it out of the box and look at it every once in a while, but it has yet to see the inside of my pocket.
The Manix 2XL has been my EDC for 6yrs now. I'm a lefty so the ball bearing lock is best for me & has performed flawlessly. The black coating is extremely tough don't worry about scratching it don't worry about the black coating fading with use because it doesn't. I cut everything with it , I use the knife a lot & the lock is still butter smooth with zero play in the blade. The S-30V steel holds an edge for a long time , the blade never chipped & the tip of the knife is very strong never breaking in the 6yrs of use. When I look for a knife being a south paw makes the axis style or ball bearing style lock a must. I look for premium steel 3.5in - 4in blade length , black coating finish on the blade & G1O. I've yet to find another knife that has all those features & is better than the Manix 2XL. If the Manix 2XL came with Emerson capabilities it would be perfect.
Just got an M2XL, how do you one handed close it? My pm2 opens and closes so smooth and fast its scary, still getting used to the m2xl, but the ball lock just seems difficult to one hand close
I love my Manix 2. I have the G10 S30V non DLC version. I carry it every day period.
I do the same thing. I've been in search of the perfect EDC for years and every time I buy something I love I end up not wanting to put it to hard use. I have been using my Spyderco Endura 4 past couple years for EDC. But I own a couple Chris Reeves, couple Reates, Microtechs, etc-- probably have 9 Spydercos and going to start rotating more of my Spydercos into EDC. I do not have a Manix 2 though so I will be getting one-- only question is if I go for the S30V or S110V. Thanks for the presentation .
I love my manix2. I have that same Knifeworks exclusive..in my opinion, it is the best looking of the line, but that's just me. Love the look of the grey scales and black hardware/blade, and I am a fan of 52100 steel. Holds an edge decent, not like the s110v but decent, and sharpens nice, takes a very fine edge.
I get a chuckele at how so many of us have become steel snobs..S30 is old inferior steel now, lol. There is nothing wrong with it...we thought it was the shit before the newer steels came out, and the difference between it and s35 is minimal.
S30V is the new 440C
Received mine today. Love it!!!
Thank you for the great review!
Just bought one today and it’s a SICK knife and I love the grippy handle
I went on a Hinderer binge for a while. I have a couple of Spyderco's in route though because they slice so well.
I by chance came into a manix a few years ago and now I have 3 of them. Best knife ever.
My zt0393 came in super clutch breaking up a tone of super thick styrofoam from a set of washer and dryer units today. I’m saying like in some areas 8” thick and the spanto belly is amazing and the ergos has zero hot spots and the micarta scales I have on it felt so nice.
Lol
Great review, just got my all black version from Blade HQ
My first GOOD knife was a Native 4 around 2008. Before that it was all junk and a couple CRKTs that didn’t slice great. The first time I used that knife with the factory edge it flew through a blister pack faster and with less resistance than anything I ever used. Of course the Manix is the same design but bigger and tougher. I totally love the design for ergonomics and slicing plus there’s a little nostalgia in the mix. Great knife. As far as no milling in the liners, I’ve seen that all of the sprint runs get the extra milling and the standard model has them full.
I absolutely agree. This is far and away the most preferable form of the Manix 2 IMO
You should definitely try out a Microtech LUDT. Blade shape is very functional much like a leaf blade Spyderco. I’ve been carrying and using the Pro-Tech Rockeye the last few days since it showed up and it’s already needing a pivot tweak for some side to side play and as I mentioned before the LUDT has a slightly stronger spring also. Very good everyday auto and comes in M390 for a top quality steel. Badass knife. Would be cool to see your review of it.
I will absolutely consider it. Big fan of the aesthetics, and m390 + Microtech build quality sounds like a winner for sure!
Im looking at three knives to get right now , the Spyderco shaman 299,00 the light weight manix and the manix 2
I was so confused ,
you just helped me make up my mind !
Im going with the manix 2 .
thanks .
I am right there with you brother! I prefer the G-10 or Micarta for my knives.
I finally picked up a manic 2 after picking up some hinderers. Looking forward to having it in my hands.
WHEN seeing ball bearing when taking the knife apart you can see that PERHAPS the heavy plastic lock release is a perfect self lubricating nestling for that little metal ball bearing piece...
Perhaps... perhaps...
I baby my knives and I’m only at the Civivi stage, half a dozen in. I really like the look of this knife. I have bigger hands so I’m guessing it’ll suit me.
I Love my Manix 2, it's built like a tank and by far the most comfortable knife I own. I also have a para 3 which I Love as well but the Manix 2 is my new favorite.
First time watching had to like and subscribe! Great content man! Greetings from TN!
Been watching all the Manix videos. I went Griptilian first, but then got the Spyderco bug. Waited and got a Manix in M390. Love it!
Do you like the manix more than the grip? I’m torn between Spyderco and Benchmade.
MelGibsonsFist I definitely like the Manix more than my Grip. Manix is a tank. I haven’t felt the newer BM G10 grips but the grivory is too smooth.
Nathan Thurman awesome thanks for the insight!
I have about 30 pocket knives. But the only two that live in my valet tray are the manix 2 and manix 2 lw.
I opted for the Lightweight (and already want this one too!) and it's a tool, like polymer frame pistol. I can slightly compress the frame a bit, so I see why you feel it's "cheap" as it doesn't have the metal liners like the 'standard' Manix 2. I didn't think these are ugly in the least; first time I saw that spear/leaf point I'm like "Yep, that knife means business and what I need."
Great review.
Dude I'm loving this video. I've been watching your channel for a few years now. About like this video... Anyway we are so different...I love all my knives, but I didn't buy any of them for show..I use them all.. In fact, when I spend $400 on a knife it sure as hell better out preform my $200 knife!
I collect knives I guess.. But the value is for me... I've never sold one of them.. If it doesn't have a scratch on it I feel like I wasted my money.. It's so bad I never use it!
I guess we are all different.. Yes we all buy knives for looks.. we pay for premium materials...I don't buy to put on display though.. It's a pocket knife.
I think of Spyderco knives like Glock pistols. Not the most pleasing to look at but are an exercise in utilitarian function perfection.
Just bought a used manix 2 to try out spyderco. I don't know what to think... Initial thoughts:
Pros
1) I like the ergos.
2)spydie flick is addictive
3)seems to cut decent
Cons
1) heavy duty G10 lined, with thin edge and tip. Kinda Contradicts itself here.
2) ball lock is pretty stiff - this is the reason I chose the Manix 2 as I love the axis, but it's nowhere near as smooth.
3)very wide when close
4)not a lot of useable edge for size
5) LW version only... Pinned scales
I will carry it for a bit and see what happens. It feels great in hand but I'm not sure I'm sold on the total package.
I put mine on layby today. So stoked!🥳
I like manix2 very much, but disengaging the lock puts my hands in a position, where the knife can easily slip out of my hand.
Love the manix!
Finally found one in stock on ebay. Got the last one. This is my first S30v knife, second Spyderco. (Have the all black Tenacious but I hate 8cr13mov)
Nice review. Does the Manix 2 drop shut easily or do you have to flick it with authority?
ive seen videos of peoples manix 2 that doesnt quite drop free. mine on the other hand, straight out the box was super smooth and drops 100% shut buttery smooth. you do have to pull the lock buttons all the way back ( not that its hard but maybe the peoples whos doesnt drop shut arent pulling them all the way back).
I'm thinking about getting a manix 2 can it be operated without the pocket clip I do not used the pocket clip I carry in my back pocket I have a Ganzo 7531 without the pocket clip I can't manipulate the blade
M390 gray/brown or s30v black/black?? I can’t choose))
I see a lot of videos with people saying they prefer the lightweight to the G10. I'm with you. I prefer the G10. Ever since I got my standard G10 Manix 2 with S30V, my lightweight SPY27 has just been in my closet. I bring it out sometimes but for everytime I take out my LW, I take out my G10 probably twenty times.
Manix 2 and paramilitary 2 are the most beautiful knives ever made in my eyes.
I don't like 90% of the knives I see everyday on Web
Price aside, do you prefer this to the Kershaw Blur for edc? I already have a knockout and wanted to pick up a shaman but with the price increase it’s out of my budget.
I love the Blur, but the forward choil, peel ply g10, lock, thumb hole, ergos, and blade style of the Manix 2 win my preference. Its worth the extra $ IMO, but the Blur is still a solid choice.
Thank you
I've changed the scales of 4 different Manix 2's with dates from early 2017 to one from Jan 2018 and none of them had the red loctite.
Good to know! Maybe they've stopped. Would be a huge + in my book!
I believe they've stopped using the red loctite since they no longer void the warranty if you open it up. Either way, red loctite on a knife is just dumb unless it's on a thumbstud or something.
ya. my edc. deep carry clip and metal cage. i love it all black
So…now several years later, did you end up “using” the DLC Manix? How has the DLC held up?🤔
You’re not alone in that mentality 😂 I do the same thing!
I like because I know the effort it takes to make a good video lol
Started as a collector... fast lol this is next on my list. All black. S30. G10
Thanks for the video
The prices these were 6 years ago is insane compared to today you stated 130 bucks, just bought one from nc blade for 199.99 I guess inflation is way worse than we thought
Just bought same knife it’s 200 give or take now.
Is what you said about it centering over time true with a ball bearing lock? Seems like that would only apply to frame locks
There's no sideways force on the ball bearing lock
@@iceman5117 that’s what I’m thinking
Didn't you sell that one also ?
What would you recommend for a gentle mans folder? This seems like a good EDC but not a knife i could take out a pocket jewelry on outing and stuff. So what are your thoughts?
The Benchmade proper is great. Lionsteel best man seems good too. You could always seek out a GEC 15. IMO those are classy/old school 👍
@@metal_complex thanks for the suggestions the lionsteel was pretty sleek. Do you have any suggestions that would keep the same look as those but lock? I cant stand a slip joint because...they...well...slip. And that hurts😂 . thanks for the feedback
@@romanlopina5120 I have the Benchmade 945 and a ZT 0450 they are both my gentleman’s folders. They’re very thin, lightweight, and not too long.
@@appalachiangunman9589 I got the 0452 . both are excellent blades. I just ordered the manix 2 xl. I like the 3.88" to 5" range for pocket knives.
@@gordon5382 I’m wanting a Manix 2 as my next knife, I have a PM2 and Para3 but I’ve never tried the ball bearing lock but I think I would like it.
I absolutely luv my Manix 2 XL Folders! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Only recently got into blades and I’m ill.. Just bought my Manix 2BK a few days ago. $180 on BHQ. $50 I lost by being late to the game.
Idk whats wrong with me but i do that with almost everything i collect, i never want to use it afraid to mess it up, sometimes i get 2 of them so i use one and not the other.
The coating can also be handy if you are hiding from light sensitive zombies with blade out . Cause ya know there is always that one dangly annoying light overhead that could reflect off a non coated blade and alert the zombies to your presence. Beautiful beautiful edc great job thanks for the video.
i can't imagine a better edc than a manix 2 lightweight
If you want to abuse a knife do like the farmer with a new truck and put some scratches on it day 1 so your not tempted to baby it
Yes Spyderco knives are not the most visually appealing to some but they are built for slicing performance not beauty. The Manix 2 and the Manix XL are near perfection folders.
I miss these style reviews you used to do. The different environments are a nice change of pace sometimes.
Truthfully, I can't do them like this anymore because of all the extra stuff I need to do the review. Tape, flashlight, magnet, calipers, scale, size comparison knives etc. It's too much to fit into this type of environment
@@metal_complex hmm. I didn’t even think of that aspect of it but I understand completely. I’m not complaining either. Please don’t take it that way. I watch your videos daily and enjoy them very much.
I’m trying to convince myself to buy a Manix 2, even though it’s literally the last thing I need to spend $170 dollars on right now. And I looked up some old reviews and came across this video. It made me think of your old reviews with Ricky in the truck and thought how much I used to like those videos lol.
I wish you could buy it for $130. Price has went up so much
Yes FRN feels like just plastic
I bought this knife for the sole purpose of modifying it
Hahaa yea i don’t understand most people that buy knives… don’t use them, they just become case queens 🤷🏻♂️
Me either, I have a few exclusives and use the crap out of them, why buy a Lamborghini and leave it in the garage? Makes zero sense to me
I'm glad I'm not the only one that babies my knives!😂
186$ nowadays 😢😢
$266 now.
4minutes in & I still dont know what youre tryna seh
Seems like almost everyone else figured it out. I have faith in you 👍
@@metal_complex Would You know I 'figured it out' too if I didnt leave a comment and was just another digit on your clips views?
@@metal_complex Maybe next video with you makes more sense, I have faith in you as well brother! 😘
Try something that wasn't from 3 years ago 👍
@@metal_complex Are you reviewing the knife I'm thinking about purchasing each year? Now you're back at making 0 sense again.. I'm afraid?
