  • The Spyderco Manix 2 is a great knife, with great ergos, a great blade, and on the whole, it's one of the best cutting tools out there. It's a bit big, and it's perhaps not the best choice for EDC if you don't plan to do a lot of cutting, but it's a serious cutting tool, and a solid gem.

    Another great thing about this knife that you didn't mention is that I remember reading somewhere that this knife is designed to be easily operated while wearing gloves. Oversized spydie hole, extra aggressive jimping on the thumb ramp, proud liners, and the extra room in the handle all make it the best knife to use when you are wearing bulky gloves if you happen to work outside or in cold climates.

    By far my favorite model offered by Spyderco, mainly for one of the reasons you stated - the ergos are absolutely off the charts, at least to my hand. The fact that there's a little something for everyone as far as choice of different blade steels is a nice bonus.

    This is my everyday knife. I do use this all day long in a non-office job, and truly, I'm in love. It's big enough to be strong and dependable, but small enough that I don't feel like I'm walking around with a sword. After I took it apart a couple of times, I got used to it. Could probably do it in the dark now. Oddly enough, mine didn't have a drop of loctite. None. I was ready for a mess. Got nothing.
    I like the clip because I partially use it for leverage as I unlock the knife. I've never felt the wire ones everyone seems to love, but I did hear they can be a bit bendy......in certain knives, anyway. Thanks so much for looking at this one. To each his own, and in your life, I don't feel like it would fit the bill. But for mine, absolutely does.
    Love your videos!

      My lightweight has the wire clip and yeah if you use it for leverage while using the lock it does bend a little, but it's not that bad, still works a charm.

      Good to know. I think it was more of a thing back in the beginning when the lock was so much stiffer. For the first week or so, I was really depending on that clip being there. Now, not so much. In any case, Manix 2 people are my people!

    I own the Spydiechef, the paramilitary 2, both para 3 (lightweight and g10), the native 5 salt, the delica and the manix 2 is far and away my favorite knife. About the ball cage around the 8:40 mark... A Flytanium Ti or Aluminum ball cage along with a SIC bearing and lighter spring is almost a must for the Manix 2. Throw a SIC bearing and lighter spring and a Ti ball cage in it and it becomes such an amazing knife in every way. Silky smooth action, the Ti cage grabs the fingers great and thr sic bearing makes it stupid smooth.

  • @BesidetheDyingFire
    @BesidetheDyingFire 6 років тому +7

    I actually find the axis lock to be much smoother than the ball bearing. I picked up a manix awhile back and the ball bearing lock I found to be a little stiff and uncomfortable to pull back because there wasn’t a lot of give like there is with an axis.

      The omega springs on the Axis lock are not nearly as strong as the coil spring in the ball-bearing lock. It's a trade-off between greater ease of use and greater reliability. I've never broken an omega spring, but I hear lots of reports about it happening.

I’m aware spyderco has changed their stance on this now and that is the only reason I’m considering buying one, but it was and will always be a slimy(and in many countries illegal, only allowed to continue because most people would bankrupt themselves suing a company over it) attempt to get out of providing a warranty. If I manage to break my property by disassembling it, that’s my problem. If my item is faulty and a company wants to blame me for it, they’re assholes.

      PowerMountie yeah they try hard to keep the costs down on certain American models so this probably saves them a buck or two in manufacturing costs (which then translates to multiples in actual costs to consumer)

    I have few a video suggestions if you care to listen:

    Best knives under $100
    Best lockbacks (or any lock)

    I have this knife in S110V. The single sharpest factory edge I'd encountered. There's only one thing that I don't like about it and it's the spring tension on the lock. It does loosen over time, but it's never as easy to work with as the compression lock or BM's Axis lock.

    I thought that Spyderco stopped using red loctite and revised their warranty to allow disassembly sometime this year. Was this video made before those changes?

  • @vanekirk
    @vanekirk 4 роки тому

    Valuable information. I had intended to buy the black G-10 with the idea of adding copper scales. Now I know that would be more trouble than it should be AND I would void the warranty. Time to re-evaluate.

      Disassembly no longer voids the warranty and the stopped using red loctite.

    The first one I bought had pretty bad horizontal blade play. When I sent it back to Spyderco they sent back s different one, which again had blade play. I finally got a good one from Blade HQ recently (it was the M4 exclusive). (This story omits a lot of the trouble I had with this knife and Spyderco's service)

      I own well over 150 spyderco knives currently and have owned prolly 250 to 300 over the past ten years. I have never had a Spyderco that wasn't QCed very well. I have had a, couple that the edge bevels wasn't perfect but that's no matter to me as I'm going to reprofile it anyhow and put my edge on it. As far as fit and finish they are all first rate..

    Nick what would u reccomend as edc for me. I like involving my knifes with my work but its a bit hard on the knives, I usaully am going through nasty/thick plastics and do this repeatedly for 8 hours every shift. Btw the workplace gives me a cardboard cutter but its so flimsy it either lasts like a week or dulls even quicker, 3 shifts max!

    The only thing that stops me from buying a manix 2 is that the spring is exposed.. so if you close the knive with some dirt or something on the blade it's likely gonna get into the spring

    its cool they have options for the lightweight version if you travel and what ever. but im not paying 100 bucks for a cheap wire clip. mke it out of titanium or leave the spoon. i love mine, lightweight version is a no go. ill take the weight. even better f the ball cage wasnt plastic.

    Hi did anyone notice their manix 2 ball lock to be quite stiff ? Mine is quite stiff and quite uncomfortable to press with my fingers to pull down .. I have to use quite a bit a pressure to pull it.. I was wondering if most are like this ? In the video it seemed like the one Nick had didn't take as much pressure.. I am playing with it trying to break it in .. anyone else have this with their manix2?

    I’ve been eyeing that knife I have a tenacious that I know you hate but it works good for my purposes the blade size shape etc. my only thing about it I don’t like is that it doesn’t hold an edge long enough for me I like that s30v. I’m a truck driver I can run and do all kinds of things that I need to cut trust me enough to be your best friend out there. I also used to be a detention officer and still do it part time and I’m running around all over the place and I run into my former clients from time to time for the most part everything‘s good but it’s nice to have a big blade I can deploy quickly if needed to defend myself even though it’s notCombat knife

  • @GuyInAHotdogSuit69
    @GuyInAHotdogSuit69 6 років тому +2

    Personally I never feel a need to choose to carry this over my PM2, the lock is more difficult to disengage, it weights significantly more, takes up more space and gives as much cutting-edge as a Persistence (not a lot).

    if they are affraid the sharpening choil hangs up on what you are slicicing : make a single serration instead of a choil and voila !
