I started my loc journey with extensions and everything you said is true. I’m only 7 months in and I see a lot of demarcation between my locs and the extensions, but it’s not too big of difference. I love my loc journey so far. I can’t wait until my hair gets long so I can enjoy them better.

My first journey was with loc extensions, my current journey is with doing traditional locs. Which I’ve fallen in love with, to each it’s own. However you choose to start it’s your journey. I also think depending on what your going for will determine how you start, the first journey I did it for the style this time I wanted to learn patience.

I completely agree. People start their journeys for different reasons, which also dictates the method people use to start.

This old 67 year old lady is trying to understand my loc extension journey. So proud of what you said about haters. Somebody raised you right. So proud of you. Got grandkids your age but none have locks. Just trying to learn. Thanks for your help

I started by instant locking 9 inches of my natural hair and also crochet on lock extensions 1/4” in diameter and total length 4’. Because of the wet weight it’s easier to wash my hair in the sink! In the sink I do not feel the weight of the water on the loc’s And everything is lathered and rinsed at one time. I hand made my instant loc’s and my loc extensions and they are seamless. My Hair is light gray (90% gray)on my front edges and temples to the back of my ears. The top of my hair is dark gray (50% gray)to the nape of my neck. Because I used the 3 pronged crochet hook 0.5mm the color match is even and seamless! My loc’s tightened each time I wash them which is the last day of each month. I do have to crochet the area that is mostly my natural hair to eliminate the “frizzes” and manually bring my natural hair to the same mature feel as my loc extensions! My natural hair is a looser texture than the afro kinky bundles that the loc’s were made from and I can feel the difference but the look is the same, my hair is just softer! The Afro Kinky bundles feel like chemically permanented straite hair which softens with time and using Olaplex. I cannot crochet my new growth because it is pulled straight so I must interlock the new growth instead and I like it because there is no fuzz! I first installed January 25, 2022. My loc’s and extensions are very light weight and only heavy when wet. I liked and agreed with most of your video except I like to wash mine in the sink. I only use head and shoulders Royal oil products on my hair and they are great, no itching at all!

@@kaligirwanamahoro9921 I will be locked 1yr in January 25, 2023 and my loc’s are great! They have contracted in diameter and grown in length so I trim them after each retightening to keep the ends in line. I’m planning to open my salon suite 01/2023.
      Good luck on your installation!

I have always covered my hair up either with braids or wigs. I have always dealt with bad shrinkage and very dry hair that’s it is hard to manage which lead me to the loc journey. I am glad I made the decision. I am 3 months in with the traditional locs and I have learned to value my hair. I started out wearing wrap caps in between twist because I hated the shrinkage so bad!! but now I’m not getting retwist as often and I hardly ever cover my hair up anymore. So I can definitely say that I am embracing my hair more. I have wondered about the loc extensions that’s why I am here. Yours is beautiful btw. Honestly I think I will stick with traditional. Who knows later I may change my mind. And versatility with definitely have something to do with the decision if I choose to do so.

Some vendor sell better loc extensions than other ones. I purchased mine for Ahvast hair on AliExpress and I had so many different options for lenght, color, for texture and thickness of their locks. I could have them customer colored. It should also be a custom for hair extensions sellers to provide a bundle or two of afro kinky bulk hair to all orders so the loc size/shape can be adjusted to better fit the hair during install/fix weak spots that may arise overtime

I have been loc’d for 11 mos now and they’re just at my shoulders…barely. And i can feel how much heavier they’ve gotten every time i wash. I wonder if when your natural locs get as long that you won’t still think they’re heavy. It might just be how locs feel depending on how long they are regardless if they’re extensions or not.

I just get triggered when the say loc journey and it's not a journey it's a full process your situation is different for you went through the tough part

My trigger... extensions are not a journey. Driving across country on a road trip and experiencing the JOURNEY along the way is not the same as hopping on a plane and getting there in 6 hours. PERIOD. FULL STOP. Can't imagine how anyone can rationally disagree. An crochet, same 💩. Don't look down on extension wearers. For some reason I feel like they're actually worse.
Correction: what I meant to say is people who wear extensions should not look down on those who do instant crochet. They're just as bad if not worse.

Lmaoo youre wilding. A journey is literally defined as an act of traveling frlm one place to another. While tou are correct in that it is not the same, it is still a journey and should be treated as such. Touch some grass.
