    To be honest sis, your stylist choosing to back comb your hair before crocheting is why you lost so much length but you actually don’t need to back comb. I’m a locologist/loctitian who’s been instant locking hair with the crochet method for over 5 years and one thing I can tell you that I’ve learned over the years is as long as you have a good technique down when it comes to crocheting, you don’t need to back comb.
    Your stylist should have also explained to you that depending on the parting style you choose, determines how “full” your over all look will be. Straight parts (square) equals less fullness. Circle/curved parts (round) or even the triangle parts will give a fuller look so you wouldn’t even need “as many” locs (number count) to be high because the curved parts gives the “appearance” of fuller hair.

      I got a question I am planning to get instant locs, I have an ideal thickness of how I want my locs to be when they mature. However I don’t know if I should get them smaller or the same size

    • @ShaDeanaZ
      @ShaDeanaZ  Рік тому +2

      Hi, I got mine slightly smaller so that when they thicken they would be the perfect size. I’m not sure if this would work for you, but keep in mind if you get them thick they’ll get even thicker. So it may be best to go slightly smaller. Just look up some loc size pictures on google to compare what you think best fits your liking. 💓

    It depends on how thick or thin your hair is... You cannot get over a hundred locks if you have very fine hair, your locs will be popping off left and right. Texture is important when deciding a lock size

    I've learned within the first two years of my lock journey that frizz is part of the process, and it's really not a problem. I used to cut it. But I noticed after some started thinning and I was combining locks with two strand twists or even braids, it wasn't as effective because there was no frizz to mesh together. I find that it's better to tuck the frizz into the locks with a crochet needle. Yes, it takes time. But it'll help keep the locks strong.

    • @Heyu7her3
      @Heyu7her3 Рік тому +5

      Locs are a natural hairstyle... frustration with frizz to the point of cutting is simply weird. People need to interrogate their true reason for wantting locs in the first place. If the desire is aesthetics to the point of manicurist them, then faux locs are the best option.

      Omg how awful, you went through it! 😂 Same here, my first set of instant locs were too big and I had 58 of them and decided to get them combed out to start over and get a lot more. Next, whether you start with coils, two strand twists or instant locs your hair will shrink because it isn’t loc’d yet. However, the shrinkage goes away when your hair fully hardens and matures. That’s the only reason I kept them because there’s light at the end of the tunnel it just requires a lot of patience! 💕

    Your locs are beautiful! I got mine march of this year and they cost me $800 not including the price to style it. Now I’m regretting them and plan to uninstall them. My hair sat and the top of my shoulder. I got 8 inch extensions with small brick layer parts and now my hair is in the middle of my back. My extensions are still very hard😞….even after using the rose water and having regular maintenance. I have a very fine hair texture and it’s extremely curly. Now my hair is actually unraveling from the extensions. I’ve also had a lot of them fall out and some began to slide. I told my stylist about them and she claimed that it was fine. However, now you can clearly see the difference between my hair and the extensions. Plus, I’ve had a lot of the extensions either pop in half or pop at the end. My stylist said that it was normal….clearly it’s not. I hate that my first experience was so terrible. For what it’s worth I’ll be taking out the extensions and keep my hair loc’d

    • @ShaDeanaZ
      @ShaDeanaZ  2 роки тому +5

      Sorry you had to go through that. I’d be devastated too. Your stylist honestly should’ve took them out for you instead of letting you wait it out. But Most definitely if you had that bad experience with extensions I recommend taking them out. It sounds like you had a nice hair texture before the extensions and due to them not matching your hair texture it was hard to blend it. Also, not sure rose water and oil work on extensions but I know it works on your real hair because it absorbs it and moisturizes it. I definitely recommend trying locs with your real hair although it’s short, it’ll grow in no time. My instant locs were also really really short but my hair has grown a lot. 💓

But in time my hair would not blend. I have high density 4c. She said that my hair grows outward while the extension would hang down. Eventually I would hate it and want it redone. Hey, I had natural hair for 7 years and I never silk pressed it, I only blowed dried it once. So, I never put any heat on it however, I do miss my afro puff sometimes. I only miss that hairstyle but I hated washing & maintaining it because it took so long. Locs actually make me excited to do my hair lol. An yes locs can be combed out after many years however, the longer you had them the longer it takes to comb out. It’s a very long process & you lose some length when doing so. 💓

    What type of conditioner and shampoo did you use to wash out your locks?

    • @ShaDeanaZ
      @ShaDeanaZ  Рік тому +1

      Hey, for a shampoo I use a co-wash. It is by a brand called as I am coconut co-wash which acts as a shampoo and conditioner in one. While my hair is locking and it’s not fully locked yet, I choose not to use a conditioner just yet. So the main products I use are the co-wash, coconut oil, and rose water.

    The person who did your instant locs wasn't a pro. You loose 2 inches max and you can wash your hair immediately. They should be "hard" from the word go. Those were crocheted locs you got, not instant locs. Sorry.

    • @ShaDeanaZ
      @ShaDeanaZ  Рік тому +3

      If you googled how instant locs are made, it states that the hair is backcombed and then locked with the help of a crochet needle. Using a crochet needle is the only way to achieve instant locs, therefore, any other method isn’t instant locs. So, in the end I do have instant locs. Depending on the length of your hair not everyone loses 2 inches, some more and some less. If you watched videos of how instant locs are actually made you’d understand more. An it is true that you can wash your hair whenever you want after receiving instant locs, I just chose not to. Lastly, my instant locs came out healthy and exactly how they were supposed to so that’s all that matters. More updated loc content coming soon. 💓

    What do you mean my instant locs? Adding extensions or using the tool to make them look more mature? People say instant locs for both and I’m a little confused now lol.

    • @ShaDeanaZ
      @ShaDeanaZ  2 роки тому +2

      My instant locs were created using my real natural hair. My loctician used a crochet hook to create instant locs. Instant Locs require maintenance meaning when you go for a retwist your loctician will use the crochet hook to tighten your instant locs (real hair) so they can maintain its shape. However, with instant locs you still have to wait until they mature, harden and loc. But if you don’t like how short your real hair is some people add extensions to the end by connecting a fake loc.

      @ShaDeanaZ  2 роки тому +2

      You’re welcome and if you don’t want two strand twist anymore and you decide to get instant locs, it’s better sooner than later. So I would recommend getting them instant loc’d if that’s what you want and you’ve done all the research on them. Instant Locs don’t unravel they only need a maintenance of like 2 or 3 months to tighten them but they won’t come undone. So it’s better to do them now than to wait any longer before your hair locs up

I have 30 locs but like alot of people I was focused on the side but now my hair doesn't feel full. I still like it but I don't loooooove them anymore because of that. I love the way your hair is now and my question to you is... what grid pattern did you use?? I have the big parts that you had on your first set. Thank you.

      It’s okay, you live and you learn! I have a square grid pattern and it’s a lot of squares which you can see in one of the previous videos of me getting them done. An I’m not sure if you can cut them apart but I don’t recommend that I think it’ll damaged it and not turn out right. My only advice is to try an embrace them and find more females with locs your size because that helps. It give you something to to look towards like motivation. But if that doesn’t help and you’re super unhappy then it’s your choice to start over or not. 💕

      It depends, if you start with coils then you may be able to use a crochet needle on your already established love depending on the progress. 8 months to a year in it’s not uncommon for some to use a crochet needle to expedite the already begun locking process

    • @CoCo-Five
      @CoCo-Five 2 роки тому +2

      Yes you can…I did a hybrid method this time around where I did coils first, then a week later I used the crochet needle. I have some that are loced together and some that unravel when wet. The only thing to worry about is flatness if that’s not your cup of tea. I prefer the flatter look so it doesn’t bother me. Hth❤️❤️

    • @ShaDeanaZ
      @ShaDeanaZ  2 роки тому

      Getting longer instant locs wouldn’t help with stiffness because instant locs are stiff regardless the length when you first get them done. Overtime, the stiffness will wear off itself especially as it grows. I recommend moisturizing with rose water and oil. Also, when you wash them the water will loosen them a bit as well. 💓
