The most professional yet simple to understand review for any laptop that I've come across on UA-cam. I wonder what would your pick be when compared to the AMD variant of Acer Swift 3 in terms of performance ?

I was waiting for this review and thanks again for another great review. Just want to point out one thing about 4K Video editing. In Adobe premiere Pro 14.2 Beta, they have enabled Graphics acceleration for both AMD and Nvidia GPU. Now due to 6 Core in this Processor, high efficiency in Thermals and Powers (Thanks to 7 nm) which enables it to keep higher clock speed for longer duration and VEGA 6 Graphics which now works in Premiere, the 4K Video editing performance is actually good and you can do some basic editing with ease. It can actually beat some H series Quad Core 45W TDP CPU like i5-8300H or i5-9300H while using QuickSync or 2 pass editing. I've the ideapad 5 with Ryzen 7 4700U + 16GB DDR4 and it actually beats by i7-9750H in some of the editing tasks.
Im sure 250nits is enough for most indoor conditions, brighter displays can drain battery quickly alsol. For the price being offered its a great device

Unless in battery saver mode the fan on this thing fires up intermittently and loudly, almost whistling. On charge the thing whines constantly. If you Google this it seems I am not alone with this Lenovo driven problem. Loved the fit and finish and speed of the Ryzen 5 but if I wanted to live next door to a major airport I might not be bothered by the sound of this thing being drowned out! It got returned and I suggest you try one out in a store before you buy. Hope this helps y'all.

Looks so promising, but the markup in Europe is insane. I live in Germany and we only get the ryzen 7 model and it cost a whopping 900€ here which is over 1050 dollars (and the specs are average at 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd). At that pricepoint, it competes with the Hp envy x360 convertibles, which have an aluminum exterior.

The 4500U looks like to me like they nerfed the GPU part from the 3500U. The 2 extra cores are welcome, but when they have 2 threads enabled on basically every other CPU in the current lineup, disabling it here feels like once again making sure people buy the higher tier models. None of these are Lenovo's fault, it's AMD getting comfortable in the leading role for the next couple of years.
DUAL CHANNEL RAM - If you care about the gaming performance. This unit has ram configured in dual channel (2 sticks) and the Ryzen Vega GPU really likes that. I've seen videos that show a 50-80% increase in framerates and much better, stable frametimes with the only difference being the ram in single or dual channel. Many of the 4500U laptops ship with ram in single channel configuration (one stick) and it makes a really big difference in the gaming performance. This particular configuration with 16GB of 3200mhz ram in dual channel is ideal. Considering most of these laptops have the ram soldered in (as this one does), it's not always as simple as changing it later and you may need to chase down a matching stick.

Excellent machine ! Lenovo has a good reputation in the market for making very good laptops and desktops. Indeed that pen holder blocking the usb's really sucks but I believe that it will not be a big issue when you use it in tablet mode because when in tablet mode usually you have nothing connected to the laptop. But, in any event, the magnetic lock of the pen in Windows Surface was a better solution. I liked the camera... Better than the one you tested in the HP machine ! I've just come here after watching your HP Envy x360 15" review. I'd be interested to know what you think of the Lenovo Flex 14" vs HP Envy x360 15" both with the Ryzen 7 spec. Both have a similar if not the same spec across the board, one main difference is the Lenovo has 8GB Ram and the HP has 16GB. It's £200 difference and I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade of an additional 8GB ram and a few other brand specific features? (I'm sure there are others but I'm not a tech expert haha)
Hi, Andrew. I really like your review. Very detailed! And I'd like some suggestion from you. For home/school use, which one would you recommend? Yoga 6 or Flex 5 14? Thank you!
Hey, Andrew. Thanks for the awesome review. This sounds like an awesome affordable convertible. I wonder how it would fare in a smack down against the more premium Galaxy Book Flex - touch, pen, decent processor, graphics, convertible, full SD card reader, good I/O... I agree with you that that's an awesome price/performance ratio on this system.
AMD is Ryzen! Unfortunately, the cheaper Ryzen laptops have some ok displays... Not that good. Manufacturers, release your more premium Ryzen laptops, already! Outstanding review, though!
@@andrewmarcdavid Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I forgot to ask - what is the amount of RAM usable? I know that previous Ryzen systems took up 2GB of RAM because of the Radeon Graphics. That would make 8GB, 6GB of RAM. Thanks!
Great review. Is this better than the Yoga C740 considering both having the same specs? I know this one has an HDMI port and the C740 doesn't, but other than that, which would be the better option if they have similar prices?
Really liked video on Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 4500U. Can you help with below two concerns 1. WiFi 6 upgradabiliity (Intel Wifi 6 AX200 Hardware change) 2. Ability to connect it to external monitor with USB C port. that will Charge the laptop & take the display signal to monitor ( Thunderbolt mod
I have the last year's model (Yoga C340/Flex 14) with Ryzen 5 3500U , it is my secondary device and I am very happy with it. Looks to me that the newer model has a thicker top bezel which I find quite odd. I'd also say that bottom firing speakers are better on 2 in 1 devices when used folded (bottom up) for consuming media.
Is the display laminated with the glass? It will be really interesting to use the pen on a laminated display and this laptop has some really good specs at an affordable price.
A great laptop. I use it with a dongle that gives me wired Ethernet potentially going to 1 gig speed without wifi radiation (health issue) and more privacy. Ideally I want socketed RAM and a plug for direct connection to the internet (RJ45). Love the clean design and being loaded with features such as the touch screen and fingerprint reader. Like the low temp AND high computing speed of the Ryzen. Oh, I wouldn't care about MS Hello IR cam even if it had it.
@@MtnYaker I saw this review on Amazon Amazing product, a lot of misinformation from Lenovo Rep on Amazon Before I tell you about how good the product is, I have to give feedback on the Lenovo Rep(s). Before the product was available, I asked if the laptop had dual channel and or single channel memory. This is easily the most important specification in terms of performance for AMD laptops because the integrated graphics are very powerful, but you essentially lose half of the igpu performance with single channel memory. The rep told me (and subsequently another person) that the laptop has single channel memory. This is incorrect. I looked up the model number of the laptop on Geekbench and it clearly stated that it is dual channel. I received my laptop and checked with CPUZ, it also says dual channel. Now some people may say "well what are you complaining for? You're mad because your laptop is better than they said it was?" No, I'm upset because the rep's job is to give correct information to consumers so that they can make good purchasing decisions. Incorrect information causes lost sales and it makes both AMD and Lenovo look incompetent. If you look through all of the questions on the Amazon product page, you will see a few other instances of incorrect information. Just to be clear, this is a very good product in my opinion. It comes with a usb-c charger, a stylus, a mechanical shutter for the webcam, a ten keyless led keyboard. The screen is decent, obviously not something you would use for professional graphic design but it is still very good for the average user. The build quality is great, very solid. The 2 in 1 functionality is very cool in combination with the stylus. The performance is in a completely different league from anything else in this price range. AMD's new Ryzen 4000 cpu's are insane. Benchmarked next to my 2500U, this 4500U is about 90% faster in terms of cpu performance. The igpu is up to 50% faster than the Vega 8 graphics in my 2500U. This laptop is ideal for a mixture of office work, consuming media, and light gaming. If you want something to play LoL, Dota, Rocket League, CSGO, etc or random indie games on Steam, then this laptop can do that. For $600 there is nothing you can get from Intel that can match this performance without having a discrete Nvidia gpu. The only thing I dislike is that the SSD is 256GB, but I have a 512GB mini usb that I can use for media so it's fine. My first impressions: highly recommend... but get your stuff together, Lenovo Rep, whoever you are.
I'm shocked to see 20+ fps performance in The Witcher 3 from an Integrated GPU, This is amazing to see. was this a special case or are all AMD Ryzen 4000 series packed with the same iGPU?
The 4800 has an even beefier GPU but not by much, the most important thing is to have the RAM in dual channel (two sticks), some Asus' don't, so they are slower than the 4500 with their 4800!
Would you recommend this over the ThinkPad E14? I've been sort of torn between the two and I know this has better specs but I want to be assured something will last
Why they added a barrel charger? Lenovo should it added a second USB type C port on the other side of the laptop. anyway I have the Ryzen 7 4700U on the way and my the first thing I am going to do is install a AX200 WIFI 6 module and upgrading the SSD to a 1TB Samsung 970 EVo
I was wondering what type of batteries that the stylus pen uses ... since I am thinking of buying so far it sounds good but I want to know what type of batteries it uses
Hi Andrew, I am looking to buy this one. I was wondering if you can confirm that the USB-C supports DP out. Some media reports that the USB-C port does not support DP out. Thanks.
At 3:25 the comment on the usb-c being display out capable seems wrong, at least if you expect it to support displayport alternate mode - it seems that it does not.
Thanks for the excellent review as always 😄 I bought a different version of this laptop in my country (Singapore) that comes with an Intel i7-1065G7 processor and MX330 GPU. It's not as cheap as this one but I hope the performance is good!
Do you have a review on the new asus vivobook flip 14 tm42ia? No one reviews about it and I'm really confuse between these two. I like flex 5 but the build quality is what I'm worried. Thank you for this😊 finished the video.
Great video! I have a question, what laptop would you recommend? HP Envy x360 15" with the Ryzon 5 4500u and 256GB or the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14" also with the Ryzon 5 4500u but 512GB. Both have 8GB of RAM but the HP cost 100€ more. What would you recommend?
This specific model has 16GB RAM. If you don't plan on upgrading the RAM (8GB) and do not want 2 in 1 I would suggest the Ideapad which was on sale yesterday for $58+student discount only advantage being ideapad (non convertible) has brighter screen. Almost all the other 4500u models have weaker display. On the other hand, if you want to go beyond 16GB (honestly I do not see a need for it on this machine), I would choose HP for it is upgradeability. Personally this 16GB model for $600 is sweet spot. Overall I would suggest this model if usage is manly indoors.
Very helpful review!!! just had this laptop and I m not very happy with the display. Even I increased the brightness, the display color base is yellowish. Is it normal? Or did I receive the bad piece? However, I m quite happy with the speed.

Great review. Is this better than the Yoga C740 considering both having the same specs? I know this one has an HDMI port and the C740 doesn't, but other than that, which would be the better option if they have similar prices?
Really liked video on Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 4500U. Can you help with
below two concerns 1. WiFi 6 upgradabiliity (Intel Wifi 6 AX200 Hardware
change) 2. Ability to connect it to external monitor with USB C port.

Finally AMD laptops review!
-There are several displays, the one with thinner bezel has better color accuracy- The Ideapad 5 does have those
@@finbruan What is the model name with thinner bezel and better color accuracy?
@@manoj238 Gonna edit the comment, I mixed the normal Ideapad 5 and the Flex 5.
Is the display laminated with the glass?
It will be really interesting to use the pen on a laminated display and this laptop has some really good specs at an affordable price.
Yes fully laminated
@@andrewmarcdavid Thank you for the information. That is wonderful!
Love this laptop. Yesterday I bought it 👌👌👌👌👌
You can place your pen beside the touchpad (right side), there is a magnetic thing there that the pen sticks onto.
Would you prefer this over the ASUS zenbook that’s currently selling for 700 at Best Buy?
Would you recommend this lenovo laptop or the HP Envy 13 x360? Which one does better in terms of performance?
Same qs
A great laptop. I use it with a dongle that gives me wired Ethernet potentially going to 1 gig speed without wifi radiation (health issue) and more privacy. Ideally I want socketed RAM and a plug for direct connection to the internet (RJ45). Love the clean design and being loaded with features such as the touch screen and fingerprint reader. Like the low temp AND high computing speed of the Ryzen. Oh, I wouldn't care about MS Hello IR cam even if it had it.
Wow, you have three first names in your name! Cool!
I just bought the same on Amazon last week. Despite soldered RAM it seems to be dual channels. I am very happy about that.
Does anyone know if this is dual channel? You said seems to be.
@@MtnYaker I saw this review on Amazon
Amazing product, a lot of misinformation from Lenovo Rep on Amazon
Before I tell you about how good the product is, I have to give feedback on the Lenovo Rep(s).
@@MtnYaker I've received the machine and I can confirm it is indeed in dual channel mode.
thank you for the review Andrew
how does it compare against C940 15 inch (not 14) for gaming?
Congrats 🥳 100k subs
Thank you so much 😀
I'm shocked to see 20+ fps performance in The Witcher 3 from an Integrated GPU, This is amazing to see. was this a special case or are all AMD Ryzen 4000 series packed with the same iGPU?
The 4800 has an even beefier GPU but not by much, the most important thing is to have the RAM in dual channel (two sticks), some Asus' don't, so they are slower than the 4500 with their 4800!
@@slavko321 Thanks I'll keep that in mind, but now with Intel's Tiger Lake I'm curious to see how the Xe iGPU will perform
Your review was excellent and helpful and I agree 100%.
What's the difference between this and the flex 5?
The USB 3.1 only does data and power. It doesn’t have display. Just FYI.
Would you recommend this over the ThinkPad E14? I've been sort of torn between the two and I know this has better specs but I want to be assured something will last
Nice review but I was wondering does the pen only come with the one on Amazon or does the one from Lenovo also have it?
Why they added a barrel charger? Lenovo should it added a second USB type C port on the other side of the laptop. anyway I have the Ryzen 7 4700U on the way and my the first thing I am going to do is install a AX200 WIFI 6 module and upgrading the SSD to a 1TB Samsung 970 EVo
Best review up till now i have ever seen
How good is the touch pen? Does it come with spare tips?
Hi, I wanted to know if the hinges on this laptop are durable and would they be able to last long or not
Yes, they seem pretty good, i have been using it for about a month and it seems very durable
@@tanishjain7851 OK thanks
I was wondering what type of batteries that the stylus pen uses ... since I am thinking of buying so far it sounds good but I want to know what type of batteries it uses
Hi Andrew, thank you very much for your review. Awesome as always
Thanks Jose!
@@andrewmarcdavid wow it seems to be out of stock!
Really good value. Excellent review as usual. Thanks Andrew
Thanks!!
How good is palm rejection? Is it iPad good or just okay? I'm asking because I want to take notes.
It's not as cheap as this one but I hope the performance is good!
love your vids man!
I appreciate it!
Hello, do you know how I can get this laptop or the Ryzen 7 version in Europe? I can't find it anywhere, only in Amazon US and Lenovo US
Awesome review Andrew!!!
Which one according to you has a better display-HP Pavilion x360 or Lenovo Ideapad flex 5 14?
Good review, thanks! Are there any program in this laptop to draw and design as procreate in apple?thanks! Good staff!

Would the dim brightness still do well for bloggers and basic photo editing? I’m looking for a pleasing display to work on my blog.
Please answer marc i am following since 1 year that which laptop has better display this or new hp envy x360 5 4500 and has better camera
I planning to buy this one but i m more concern on programing aspects.. Is this good for development? Kindly let me know
Is it worth putting tempered glass over the touchscreen? Would the pen still work?
great review, specially the webcam one
Do you have a review on the new asus vivobook flip 14 tm42ia? No one reviews about it and I'm really confuse between these two. I like flex 5 but the build quality is what I'm worried. Thank you for this😊 finished the video.
Please answer which has a better display hp envy x360 4500 or this laptop and which has a better camera
Fantastic review. Subscribed.
Thanks really appreciate it 👊
Very helpful review!!!
just had this laptop and I m not very happy with the display.
Even I increased the brightness, the display color base is yellowish. Is it normal? Or did I receive the bad piece?
However, I m quite happy with the speed.
Please help reply when you have a chance. Thank you😊
I'm feelin' this!!
