    Looks like the exact Flex 5 I bought is out of stock. Check the description for an alternative, more expensive bundle, or try Costco!
    This is why we can't have nice things. Tried to use the UA-cam editor to edit out some errors in the original upload of this review and, guess what? The video completely bricked itself. Woohoo. Sorry. UA-cam should be the one apologizing but lol.

      I got the 4700u from Costco. I have a few questions.
      Will the storage suggested here work the same? With 2 suggestions, which is better? Are these much faster than the 512 it comes with or is this an unnecessary upgrade on this model? Also people were talking about adding heat sink, is that a good idea?
      Should i swap them before I set up? How do I get what is on the one hard drive to the new? Is there a video or article that you would recommend?
      Ty!

    Nice, this is a pretty detailed review. Especially with you getting into the history and build/tear down of the parts and durability like the hinge. You gained a new subscriber. Keep giving these details, it separates you from other reviewers. The questionable hinge design is the deal breaker for me. That is the exact reason i have to replace my older laptop which is still good from a performance stand point.

      @@forgotten. oh hey! The pen automatically activated, I just turned on my pc and used the pen straight away! I have not adjusted the settings and neither I know how to OR if you're able to if i'm being honest, either way It's pretty sensitive and I believe it works good. For some reason the sensitivity does not work in Paint Tool Sai for me, but I believe it may work if I put enough work into it. Overall it's a good laptop and I 100% recommend it for light stuff such as minecraft, editing, doing art, etc. However, the hinges are NOT strong, it's very easy to open the laptop with one hand, way too easy, but it has never truly been an issue. If you want it to stay in position, it WILL stay in position. Hope it helped!

    Little disappointed that they chose to go with soldered RAM. I have an older Flex 5 which came with 8 GB of RAM (4 GB soldered / 4 GB replaceable). I dropped in a 16 GB stick and have 20 GB of RAM total. Wish they would've kept something like that instead.

      @@codeHusky I just intend on using it for notes so this is something I researched a lot.
      Remember to test two or three apps because they each use software to change how the pen writes (allegedly onenote works the best), and try to test for diagonal jitter (slow diagonal lines at 45° will wobble). Additionally when you revisit ubuntu try the pen a little, I ve heard touch drivers are all over the place for Linux.

    • @codeHusky
      @codeHusky  4 роки тому +2

      Fair enough yeah. I'll try to test the pen in an app that just takes the stylus input raw, then something like OneNote or Word to see how they handle it too.

    BTW: Cinebench-Performance @ 4700U Multicore = 3138. It's a close one to the 1700x. But I will have to return my machine since a Speaker came broken out of the box. Doesn't speak for the QC@Lenovo, since this does not seem to be a fault, that can occure while shipping. Especially since it's a 850$ + Pen machine around here.

    • @codeHusky
      @codeHusky  4 роки тому +2

      :) Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Regarding the stutter and artifacts though, I'd recommend you download the drivers for the graphics from AMD's site. Google "Ryzen 4500U drivers" and go to the AMD one, then download and install those drivers. Make sure to check factory reset while installing so you get all stock settings. That should eliminate a lot of the stuttering. I did start to run into those stutters recently and the main thing to blame are the terrible Lenovo drivers.

I was actually going to buy this version of flex 5 on amazon for 600$+55$ tax, but when I checked the price for 4700u version at Costco I was just 750$ without any tax whatsoever. • @codeHusky

      The warranty is only a 1yr depot warranty through Lenovo, not sure if Costco has a separate in-store policy. If you're looking to play games on the Flex 5, then spending the extra $100 for the 4700u variant would probably be worth it (keep in mind you don't get a stylus).

      I've been using it for gaming as my travel machine and for that use it is pretty nice, the usb carcharger works pretty nice for it with a minimum of extra wires, it is light enough that I can toss it as an extra item in a bag and it don't weight it down extra, but has enough power to get me some alright framerates.
      Now with all of this said, this is a very nice machine at this price point. if someone parks a truck on my backpack and this machine dies I'm going to be upset but not shattered. But if you are a content creator that wants something with built in pen support than this is the budget machine for you.

      I'm not sure how I feel about those. They aren't using the Ice Lake processors, instead are using the 10th gen 14nm ones that aren't a whole lot better than the 8th gen ones. You'd be better off buying an older model in-box on something like eBay if you're set on a ThinkPad.

    I am looking to purchase this laptop for someone who has a typical usage of Word/excel document editing, hours of video classes and UA-cam streaming. I am only concerned about the limited 50% colour space profile of the display. Will it hold up for general purpose usage ? And is the front camera good enough?
    Appreciate if someone can reply 🙏

    I have a lenovo flex 5 with a 4700u. It runs games really well, except that I have noticed that the screen tearing is really bad and there are a few stutters here and there. It's enough to be annoying though. Do you happen to have really bad screen tearing and stutters on this laptop? I was wondering if I should exchange it, or buy another one to compare it with.

    • @codeHusky
      @codeHusky  4 роки тому +1

      Screen tearing is just a byproduct of bouncing in FPS near the screen's refresh rate. Enabling V-SYNC will fix the tearing issues. Stuttering is a similar issue.

    • @program7563
      @program7563 4 роки тому

      @@codeHusky See I thought that tearing would happen around the screen's refresh rate too (60 hz on this panel). But in like games like Valorant, Minecraft, and CS:GO where the framerate is well above 125 fps, I'm still noticing very bad tearing.
      As for the stuttering, It happens in games the most, but it also happens on the desktop as well. When I am dragging something around and the computer will freeze for like a half-second, or browsing on chrome, and scrolling will freeze for half a second.
      I'm guessing that I just got a bad model because this 4700u is too good to be doing those things.
