You definitely have what it takes to be a great UA-camr reviewer. You remind me of those other youtbers like Jarrod's tech and other laptop reviewer. Subbed to your channel.
:) Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Regarding the stutter and artifacts though, I'd recommend you download the drivers for the graphics from AMD's site. Google "Ryzen 4500U drivers" and go to the AMD one, then download and install those drivers. Make sure to check factory reset while installing so you get all stock settings. That should eliminate a lot of the stuttering. I did start to run into those stutters recently and the main thing to blame are the terrible Lenovo drivers.

@codeHusky sir, may I ask how long did the laptop work? Is it still working now and have you encountered any issues, especially with the hinge? I am looking for laptop for school that could stay for atleast 4 years. Please answer, thankss!
Just got the 4700u, w/16gb, and 512gb for $750 @ costco. Insane deal and it is supposed to arrive on Tuesday. Only complaint is the 250 nit screen but at that price, it is still a steal.
Some good insights! Been thinking about picking this up for uni. Do you know if the Bluetooth radio is also replaceable? Coz I have headphones that work way better on BT 5.0 and as far as I can remember Lenovo says this only has 4.2
Hey thanks that actually looks like a ripper of a Wifi/BT card for such a cheap price, will defs be grabbing that if I end up pulling the trigger on the Flex 5.
@@codeHusky Hey, is there some sort of software or setting in bios in this laptop through which one could limit the battery charge at 80%-85% while having it plugged in for extended periods of time ?
Thank you for this great review! Ilve been juggling upon this and the costcot deal for a whole day. I'm looking for a Ryzen 7 4700u with 16GB, and a decent screen with at least 300nits. Budget can go up to 1200. I guess more manufacturers will adopt this processor soon, so I should wait for a while, right? Thx!
Dope content , think you can cheat the algorithm and increase your subs just from improving your thumbnail , having a more continuous video and a little less photo , dope review ⚡🙌
I've got one arriving and will be using it with my Solar work (both office and in presentations). Do you see any loss of functionality swapping out the OS for Linux?
Hey, thank you for another video! I was actually going to buy this version of flex 5 on amazon for 600$+55$ tax, but when I checked the price for 4700u version at Costco I was just 750$ without any tax whatsoever. So only 100$ more for a better ssd and processor and if I’m not mistaken a 4 year warranty. In this case, what do you think will be a better deal?
The warranty is only a 1yr depot warranty through Lenovo, not sure if Costco has a separate in-store policy. If you're looking to play games on the Flex 5, then spending the extra $100 for the 4700u variant would probably be worth it (keep in mind you don't get a stylus).
codeHusky wow you’re right, thanks. Now I’m eyeing the Costco model haha... but for 750 I wonder if I should just hold off a little longer for further Ryzen offerings or deals
It would be so nice to see the input lag when writing notes and talking about the experience, how close is the pen to the glass/display and so on. Also why don't you put key points as text when you talk about all kinds of numbers? It would be so much more helpful
Do you think it is safe for the laptops internals to game on it? Like if I wanted to play Rocket League or Minecraft on it sometimes? Or do you think it would damage the components?
Can you please answer my question? I am a student, and i want a reliable laptop. that is strong and fast, and will stay for a few years. My eyes are on the dell inspiron 15 5000 ryzen 7 4700u. But I’ve been thinking about this laptop! My only concern is that i cant upgrade the ram in this laptop, and its not ad reliable as dell. Pov: If you can, can you get the dell inspiron 15 5000 ryzen 7 4700u and review it?
First of all, really good video! Second I really don't if I should get this laptop because I like gaming but the Integrated vega seems like it's not good enough and there is no thunderbolt 3 to attach a dock to it. I still need an active digitizer 360 hinge and not spend a ton of money.
I've been using it for gaming as my travel machine and for that use it is pretty nice, the usb carcharger works pretty nice for it with a minimum of extra wires, it is light enough that I can toss it as an extra item in a bag and it don't weight it down extra, but has enough power to get me some alright framerates. Now with all of this said, this is a very nice machine at this price point. if someone parks a truck on my backpack and this machine dies I'm going to be upset but not shattered. But if you are a content creator that wants something with built in pen support than this is the budget machine for you.
i have the Flex 5 Ryzen 4700 version and I have experienced Glitching however I updated the AMD Drivers and installed even more windows upgrades a week after I had installed all the initial updates.
How about the Thinkpad L13 Yoga? I've been seeing that go on sale between 699-799 bucks. Seems like a great deal for a Thinkapd, so I'd love to hear your review and what the compromises are.
I'm not sure how I feel about those. They aren't using the Ice Lake processors, instead are using the 10th gen 14nm ones that aren't a whole lot better than the 8th gen ones. You'd be better off buying an older model in-box on something like eBay if you're set on a ThinkPad.
Hey! I love your reviews but I have a hard time finding a laptop that works for me: Convertible , 3:2 (or 16:10 but I prefer 3:2) tactile screen, Ryzen 4000 series, 16 GB RAM, fair price...what would you advise? I can live with an average screen quality, a plastic construction, average keyboard
Great content @codeHusky. I am looking to purchase this laptop for someone who has a typical usage of Word/excel document editing, hours of video classes and UA-cam streaming. I am only concerned about the limited 50% colour space profile of the display. Will it hold up for general purpose usage ? And is the front camera good enough? Appreciate if someone can reply 🙏
The consumers are torn between Acer Swift 3 and Lenovo IdeaPad 5. Can you do a head to head comparison of them ? Just everyone has been searching for it online !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@codeHusky Would you be kind enough review the new HP Envy series with Ryzen 4th Gen. I'm guessing, it might be coming with a better build quality, albeit at a higher price, but still bang for buck I think
@@codeHusky Considering its HP, they're gonne release multiple models. Neverthless, the HP Envy x360 13-ay0021nr (www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/h76usn/hp_envy_x360_13ay0021nr_ryzen_7_4700u_unboxing/?) might be a good place to start. TIA :)
IdeaPad 5 and Flex 5 are both decent options! I'd say probably IdeaPad 5 though, as it's a much better rounded machine than the Flex 5. Also, no, the ram is not upgradable.
Super helpful review! Has anyone else had an issue with the fact the trackpad is not centered on the keyboard?!?! I keep right clicking unintentionally.
I am having problems understanding the power profile settings. Is there any way to change the max tdp set by the oem? Does Windows power options help in this regard? And how to know beforehand which laptop has which max tdp?
Thinking of formating and putting on windows pro. If I do that will I able to get the Lenovo software for the pen and Lenovo utility for example? I'm on their website for support and it looks like they offer drivers and not the software. What do you think? Is any of the Lenovo preinstalled software necessary? I.e. Dolby audio, Lenovo pen settings, Dolby audio? Thanks bud!
The software isn't terribly important, but it should come back automatically after a re-install. If you still need it you should be able to find it in the windows store.
@@codeHusky need help buddy. I formatted computer and even got rid of the Lenovo one key backup partition. Upgraded to pro things were fine for a couple days. Now my laptop is plugged in and not charging. I uninstalled the battery drivers but to no avail. One Lenovo website it mentions something about battery energy management garbage but I uninstalled all Lenovo software so don't have that anymore. Went to website for support and that software is not available for dowbload. Not sure it would help anyway. What do you think I can do to fix? Some websites say remove battery but I don't have the right bits to take apart laptop bottom.
Were you able to successfully boot after swapping a ssd? I've tried cloning and swapping with a larger capacity m2 but it crashes after booting into the login screen.
I am returning my Flex 5 15 4K because the spacebar is not working out of the box. How can this laptop have 4k output? What is the primary difference between the FHD (1920 x 1080) vs UHD 4K I am returning? The price is almost double for my Flex 5 4k vs this model so I'd rather be able to go with the Flex 5 14 FHD (1920 x 1080) if I can still get 4K quality.
Hey man I was able to find a Lenovo flex 5 at staples for 549.99 + taxes in total it was 600$ but it was the i5-1035G1 version. You think it was a good purchase for the price or should I have bought something with the ryzen processor ?

7:50 I have a lenovo flex 5 with a 4700u. It runs games really well, except that I have noticed that the screen tearing is really bad and there are a few stutters here and there. It's enough to be annoying though. Do you happen to have really bad screen tearing and stutters on this laptop? I was wondering if I should exchange it, or buy another one to compare it with.
Screen tearing is just a byproduct of bouncing in FPS near the screen's refresh rate. Enabling V-SYNC will fix the tearing issues. Stuttering is a similar issue.
@@codeHusky See I thought that tearing would happen around the screen's refresh rate too (60 hz on this panel). But in like games like Valorant, Minecraft, and CS:GO where the framerate is well above 125 fps, I'm still noticing very bad tearing. As for the stuttering, It happens in games the most, but it also happens on the desktop as well. When I am dragging something around and the computer will freeze for like a half-second, or browsing on chrome, and scrolling will freeze for half a second. I'm guessing that I just got a bad model because this 4700u is too good to be doing those things.
I never had a gaming laptop so I cannot compare but this thing is really getting hot while playing game. Do you have the same the problem with it ? How do I know if this much heat is bad or normal for my laptop ( Lenovo ideapad flex 5 Ryzen 5 5500u)
hi , i need help i got the idepad 5 14inch non flex model , and iam a bit worried about the hinge problem be cous the ideapad 5 15 inch has plastik hinge holders on the top lid that breaks but what about the 14 inch model ?? i saw in the manual they are metal hinge holders glued on the top lid but dose that make any diffrence ?? iam a bit too worried about that problem , thx
I am waiting for my Flex 5 14 4700U 16GB from Costco and a AX200 WIFI 6 module from Amazon. My Plan is to upgrade the WIFI module and also install a Samsung 970 Evo 1TB (I had this on a Asrock Deskmini PC) that I use for emulation and play around with Ubuntu. I initially had ordered the Acer Swift 3 4700, but it never show up. UPS lost it :( . I am still waiting for amazon to refund me my money.
Sounds like a good plan! Too bad about your Swift 3 though, losing stuff in the mail really sucks. Who knows -- maybe it'll mysteriously show up at some point and you'll have a Swift AND a Flex 5!
@@codeHusky The swift 3 show up after waiting 3 weeks for it, but the box was really damage. any way Amazon had already refunded my money, I printed the return label and send it back to Amazon. The Lenovo Flex 5 arrived today and I already installed the Samsung 970 EVO 1TB and the intel AX200 WIFI 6 module. The WIFI 6 module was a pain to reconnect the antenna wires.
In my opinion Soldered RAM is an another issue ; If RAM can't be upgraded we are not going to utilize the full potential of such a capable processor... ; not sure why most of the upcoming laptops , particularly the Ryzen 4000 series laptops are launching with Soldered RAM... this is in my opinion is biggest limitation & drawback...
Have you had any trouble with wifi or audio not working after hibernation? I've resorted to disabling hibernation and using standard sleep to avoid the problem.
I haven't been using hibernation so I wouldn't be terribly familiar with any issues with that. I could look into it, but I'm willing to bet a reinstall of windows would fix things.

Bro should I get Flex 5 or Ideapad 5? 2-1 is not a must for me but it's a nice feature to have.
Which one u have bought?
@@AMIRKHAN-mu6dn The flex 5, but if you can afford you should go with the ideapad 5.
Some good insights! Been thinking about picking this up for uni. Do you know if the Bluetooth radio is also replaceable? Coz I have headphones that work way better on BT 5.0 and as far as I can remember Lenovo says this only has 4.2
Yup, the Bluetooth is integrated with the wifi card, so all you'd need to to is purchase a different wifi card (such as an ax200) and you'd be good.
Hey thanks that actually looks like a ripper of a Wifi/BT card for such a cheap price, will defs be grabbing that if I end up pulling the trigger on the Flex 5.
This a really nice review. Detailed yet to the point and not too long. Btw do you plan on reviewing Asus vivobook flip 14 ?
I'm considering it!
@@codeHusky Hey, is there some sort of software or setting in bios in this laptop through which one could limit the battery charge at 80%-85% while having it plugged in for extended periods of time ?
There may be an option in Vantage.
Thx!
Yeah, I'd suggest waiting a while. Lenovo's Slim 7 should be back at some point soon with all of those features.
@@codeHusky Thank you! Does Slim 7 often carry a good screen?
As far as I'm aware it does
Great review!
Hey awesome video man! Really useful
It'd be great if you do a comparison video to determine the best ultrabook of 2020 within $800
Dope content , think you can cheat the algorithm and increase your subs just from improving your thumbnail , having a more continuous video and a little less photo , dope review ⚡🙌
Great review, how does the fan sound in normal use?
The fan is usually quiet and only kick on when needed
Excellent review.
Great video! Any word on the i7 + NVIDIA MX330 model?
A nicely detailed review. Thanks.
pls can u once again confirm me if there are 2 slots for ram or just one. Also Are there 2 m2 slots or just one.
There are zero slots for ram as all the memory is soldered. There is only room for one SSD.
I've got one arriving and will be using it with my Solar work (both office and in presentations). Do you see any loss of functionality swapping out the OS for Linux?
Thank you for the review, How does it compare against the C940 15 inch (not 14) when it comes to gaming?
I think the performance upgrade is only around 5% which isn’t really proportional to the price hike of around 15%
@@bradycorum2233 from what I've seen the performance gain in gaming tasks is a lot better than 5%, it's a matter of 45fps to 55-60fps in some cases.
codeHusky wow you’re right, thanks.
Hi, thanks for the great review! Could you send the link for the correct model for the pen? My model from CostCo came without the pen...
Very good review, in my country flex 5 ryzen's price as same as vivobook flip 14 price (TM420IA), what is your opinion about both of them? Thanks
Heavily considering this one.
This one is on sale right now at $519.99 on Office Depot!!!
Good review subbed
Thanks!
Do you think it is safe for the laptops internals to game on it? Like if I wanted to play Rocket League or Minecraft on it sometimes? Or do you think it would damage the components?
low 90s.. sounds promising, what are the temps when gaming on "intelligent cooling" for a prolonged duration of time?
Can you please answer my question? I am a student, and i want a reliable laptop. that is strong and fast, and will stay for a few years. My eyes are on the dell inspiron 15 5000 ryzen 7 4700u. But I’ve been thinking about this laptop! My only concern is that i cant upgrade the ram in this laptop, and its not ad reliable as dell.
Pov: If you can, can you get the dell inspiron 15 5000 ryzen 7 4700u and review it?
Am in Germany, and Flex 5 only available with Ryzen 3. How does that affect your review?
Hey! I love your reviews but I have a hard time finding a laptop that works for me:
Convertible , 3:2 (or 16:10 but I prefer 3:2) tactile screen, Ryzen 4000 series, 16 GB RAM, fair price...what would you advise?
I can live with an average screen quality, a plastic construction, average keyboard
Great content @codeHusky.
I am looking to purchase this laptop for someone who has a typical usage of Word/excel document editing, hours of video classes and UA-cam streaming. I am only concerned about the limited 50% colour space profile of the display. Will it hold up for general purpose usage ? And is the front camera good enough?
Appreciate if someone can reply 🙏
Great video
is the ryzen 3 4300u idealpad flex 5 much different than this one, like would it perform just as good?
The consumers are torn between Acer Swift 3 and Lenovo IdeaPad 5.
Can you do a head to head comparison of them ?
Just everyone has been searching for it online !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@codeHusky
Would you be kind enough review the new HP Envy series with Ryzen 4th Gen.
I'm guessing, it might be coming with a better build quality, albeit at a higher price, but still bang for buck I think
Do you have a link or specific model of the Envy I should take a look at?
@@codeHusky
Considering its HP, they're gonne release multiple models.
Neverthless, the HP Envy x360 13-ay0021nr (www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/h76usn/hp_envy_x360_13ay0021nr_ryzen_7_4700u_unboxing/?)
might be a good place to start.
TIA :)
@@mathewtg624 On the expensive side, but intriguing nevertheless. I'm seriously considering looking at something from HP for sure.
This, Lenovo ideapad 5 or the Lenovo E495 for high school? :)
(also: is the ram upgradeable in the flex 5?)
IdeaPad 5 and Flex 5 are both decent options! I'd say probably IdeaPad 5 though, as it's a much better rounded machine than the Flex 5. Also, no, the ram is not upgradable.
@@codeHusky is the ram upgradeable in the Ideapad 5 then? :)
Super helpful review! Has anyone else had an issue with the fact the trackpad is not centered on the keyboard?!?! I keep right clicking unintentionally.
Can I make the 8gb ram version of this to 16? And would you recommend this to me as a student and maybe very light gaming
I would avoid Intel and stick with AMD if your looking for performance and battery life.
Im currently loooking for touchscreen laptop , and lenovo ideapad flex 5 seems as. I have a lenovo flex 5 with a 4700u.
Do u recommend it in 2021? For students? For 5-6 years use?
Have you tried csgo or valorant? Those are the games my friends play the most and I wonder if this laptop would be able to handle those games well.
Haven't tried Valorant yet, but I can test CS:GO before I head to sleep tonight.
Just tried CSGO - it'll run above 60fps easily at low. Still need to do more tuning though
codeHusky ahh okay thank you!
how does the flex 5 4700U compare to the yoga c940 i7-1065G7 + intel iris plus?
Is it worth paying more for 4500u? 4300u 8gb/256gb is for 672$ and 4500u 8gb/512gb 789$. Unfortunately no 16gb version ;
I never had a gaming laptop so I cannot compare but this thing is really getting hot while playing game. Do you have the same the problem with it ? How do I know if this much heat is bad or normal for my laptop ( Lenovo ideapad flex 5 Ryzen 5 5500u)
It will get quite warm, it's not intended to be used as a gaming machine so it wasn't designed with staying cool during long play sessions in mind
hi , i need help i got the idepad 5 14inch non flex model , and iam a bit worried about the hinge problem be cous the ideapad 5 15 inch has plastik hinge holders on the top lid that breaks but what about the 14 inch model ?? i saw in the manual they are metal hinge holders glued on the top lid but dose that make any diffrence ?? iam a bit too worried about that problem , thx

My man, your review was superb. Seriously one of the best I have seen. I’ll be sure to buy this through the link on here once it’s in stock. You’ve earned it. My only question is would you recommend the Costco version over this if one is doing more Netflix/home office/light coding in R? I don’t really need it for gaming purposes.
I wouldn't recommend the Costco version for just that. It's pretty much only for folks who need a gaming focused machine.
