  • There is a lot of history about the blues, a lot of myth too. Todd Albright stopped by the shop the other day to talk the facts with a few of my students and friends. How the blues ever got recorded to begin with, and maybe more importantly, a few motivations as to why.
The full interview of Todd's hour-long, off-the-cuff presentation is available on the Patron! The night also included a repair demo by me, and a performance by me, Todd, Dakota Dave Hull, and Mumblin' Drew - all of which is archived on my Patreon page.
    Enjoy!

    Another great video Kyle!
Todd knows his stuff! Robert Johnson had to play popular music to make money, we're just lucky they recorded his own songs.

I mean I wouldn’t mind having some recordings of Robert Johnson’s take on Gospel or Folk tunes.

well, some of what he recorded are 'his' but many are his take on the blues songs floating around at the time... look into it. For example "Love In Vain Blues" was his take on Leroy Carr's "In The Evening" melody and all. That doesn't lessen Robert's take and influence at all. A lot of old blues songs were played in the community and maybe no one knew who wrote it; but you put your spin on it. Great vid Kyle and Todd!!
