When she said she can take on debt because she "Could afford it" she is wrong. If she could afford it she would pay it in cash and not take out a loan 🤷♂️
“I can afford it” = “I can afford the monthly minimum payment as long as I put some of my living expenses on credit”
Her statement was like an oxymoron. Completely nonsensical
Yeah, that was one of the most ignorant, idiotic things I've ever heard on this program.
I’m surprised Dave didn’t call that out.
I think many callers "think" they want to hear the truth until Dave unleashes the fury.
They may "think" they know what he will say and hope to reinforce the decision they've already made.
Well done to them for calling in anyway. It’s not easy
😅😅
The truth hurts, but it's still the truth 😅. Making 200k and can't pay daycare, unbelievable. So, what if the parents were not there? I wonder if they have thought about that possibility.
Or maybe they know how this show works and get what they expected.
This is why dave cannot be replaced
IT IS ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING how these Americans have so much car debt. 70k in car debt...honestly????
“That’s called skinny fat” Lmao I like this lady
Imagine owning 90k in toys and wondering if you should sell your home to pay for them 😂
I've seen people with 100k worth of car debt in an apartment, ridiculous
"Should we sell our one appreciating asset to pay for all of our depreciating assets?" 🤦♂️
Wow
Are we talking Tonka truck, or GI Joe. This is IMPORTANT to define now.
Lmao, crazy stuff.
Just here to hear Dave say “Vee-Hickle”
I love Dave's hard truth. It is what all of us need to hear over and over until we wise up.
The personalities come and go but none will ever give it to you straight like Dave.
5:01 Let’s all take a moment to acknowledge Ramsey NAILING their age. That was pure skill. “Are you 28?” “Yes.” 😆
Right. 😂😂😂😂😂 very hilarious moment.
😂
Hey! Not all 28 year olds are dumb!
He absolutely nailed it. You can always tell when they list off all the stupid decisions they make. It’s easy to know their age!!
Humans are predictable, rarely are they ever different or unique. we have entire marketing teams to figure out what people want and how they get where they are. it is always the same story old as time.
These two are the definition of complacency.
My mamas situation is even crazier. She makes 2k a month and doesn't have a penny saved. She's 58 and lives with relatives. She knows she doesn't make enough but she likes the retail job. It's terrible seeing her like this.
Freaking car payments! Get beaters and sell the trailer. And goodness, NO childcare costs! What a blessing.
Why did they breed while in debt?

Listening to this show makes me feel so much better about myself 😭
Plain and simple fact. I feel better about myself when watching this show. Ikr. My wife’s car needs work and I just think back to when I didn’t have a wife but my car needed work and I was still carrying 25 grand in student loans around with me and had no paid for real estate and five grand in credit card debt. This ministry is amazing.

"My 600lb Life" is another show that'll make you feel really good about yourself.
It becomes debt porn after awhile.
Same. 😀
My grandma use to tell me if u can't afford it, don't buy it.
So she was buried in a pine box on public land?
Smart gramma
Yes your grandma is a very smart lady
I tell my son just bc I can afford don’t mean I’m buying it!
It's actually, "If you have to use credit to buy it. You can't afford it"
She's calling from a lounge at Mandalay Bay.

“Are you 28?” 😂
Not going to lie, but we are actually really proud to have an employee like you as part of the team. The job is done so gracefully and neatly. Very well done, dear MYSTICFLIP . First of all. Thank you for making the work environment so friendly and taking your responsibility seriously and completing the work gracefully! You deserve so much.
Finance and Business books have been so helpful. I’m 55 and my wife 50 we are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. Currently living smart and frugal with our money. No longer putting blames on FED for our misfortunes. Saving and investing lifestyle in the stock market made it possible for us this early, even till now we earn weekly.
You have done great for yourselves. I understand the fact that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, but investing today is a hard thing to do for me now because I have no idea of how and where to invest in. I would be happy if you could advise me based on how you went about yours, as I am ready to go the passive income path.
That is so amazing, I’m trying to get onto the housing ladder at 40. I wish at 55 I will be testifying to similar success

Easy for her to get out of debt. She will have a great life after age 30.
Dave and company are so right about so many things. Tried and true principles.
The benefit of that suffering cannot be stressed enough. My wife and I started it a little over a year ago and we’re on track to be done with baby step 2 by the end of this year and IT HAS SUCKED. They wanted to sell the house, not for a "fresh start" but to get their hands on that cash! Dave didn't tell them what they really wanted to hear. I hope they stick to Dave's plan and truly change their behavior.
$200k income and an $800k house.
That's probably a $4k a month payment.
Plus $70k car debt and the Heloc.
Ouch.
So is the cars the issue or the house payment? Because $1300 isnt killing their over $10k monthly income.
I'm floored by this and the numbers. We have under 20K to live off, and we are saving money in the bank - and we are not suffering in our everyday life. With an income of 200K, we would consider ourselves to be rolling in money, so why can't they manage? And why on earth are they living in a house worth 800K? A modestly sized house would be enough.
@@robr268, if they are spending $4k a month on their house and probably another $1500-2k/month on cars. Plus a home equity line of credit, plus who knows what sort of other insane expenses. They don't seem to be "in control" of their spending.
I'm in a situation where we have been funding my wife's nurse practitioner degree and are in the process of moving out of state.
I'm renting a house in one place and a townhouse in another on $150k income. While paying for all this nursing school debt we took on over the last 6 months and everything else in our life.
Once my wife starts working this month we will have a combined income over $300k and our living expenses will drop to $1500/month.
We'll wipe out all our debt in the first 6 months and we'll be able to bank money fast.
We started out 15 years ago on my single income of $36k a year. We understand the value of money and hard work.
I would never sign myself up for an $800k mortgage. It's not worth it.
I spend over $1500/month on Housing and it feels stupid.
@@ingridburling8731, it sounds like complete lunacy. When my wife and I started out 15 years ago we were living on my $36k a year gross income. We've kept that same scarcity mentality which has allowed us to save $250k in retirement.
My high-school janitor and his wife who worked at the grocery store bakery retired multi-millionaires when I was in high school. He gave me great advice when I was a kid. I took it to heart. Avoid debt and invest like crazy. Some people don't get it. My wife just graduated with her Nurse Practitioner degree. Our income is skyrocketing this year. Our goal is to be the first in our family to create generational wealth.
Setup college funds for our daughter and all our nieces and nephews.
The team is right - if they sell things and "start fresh" it won't change their lifestyle - and in a few years they will be back in debt at square one. They need to make serious changes. Either get super serious about this debt, as Dave recommended, or sell the cars and trailer, get beater cars, and attack the heloc.
Update: They started off ROTTEN.
Mr Ramsey has prove himself a sound voice about financial discipline. I really get motivated to prudent money management by listening to him.
Dave is to the point in his life and career where gives a flip about tact. 🤣 Straight to the point!
SO many people need to be watching this video. I can't count how many people I've come across who have decent jobs and struggle to make ends meet, but they make mortgage-like payments on a car loan and other frivolous things

Jade is spot on about being “skinny fat”. My wife and I make the same money, roughly 200k. We own a house that we bought for 180k, two cars paid off, one purchased for 16k brand new and the other purchased brand new for 35k but paid off fully. We have ZERO intention of buying another house or cars at the moment. We have ZERO intention of having debt. The piece of mind is priceless. God forbid our financial situation changes and we are ready for the worst. I can’t imagine having so much debt, even at our income level.
Such a huge difference it makes getting advice straight from the man. I have put 10Gs/mo of blow money into my budget while carrying a house payment around with me before too. He’s really right. If you stop that for like 13 months and pay the house off you can go straight back to it as soon as you want. Or see the value in investing 10Gs/mo and just keep doing that instead. The options are limitless
Lmaoooo where the fuck did you buy a house for less than 200k? Must be nice buying over a decade ago.
Lol. We have the exact same situation except for on 260k $160,000 paid off house 3 cars 8k truck, 8k mustang, and 38k Durango. All paid cash. I didn’t think anyone was nearly as cheap as me.

You made a good point. My husband makes over 200k and we don't have any debts except mortgage. We live in LA so our incomes tax is 35% w 50% tax on bonuses. We bought a pre own lexus 40k paying cash. I was feeling extreme pain when we paid it. I would never go back to financing loans crap. We are trying to pay off our mortgage rn.
If they make 200k so they bring about 10k a month home after Taxs. There is no way they can pay 10k a month
I love when Dave guesses the caller’s age just by their financial situation.
You are not alone but don't sell to pay for a liability. To keep up with rising cost we are beginning to see the equity of our home for what it truly is, Its becoming hard for us seniors not to ask the obvious question: Should we cash in, invest the money, and rent/relocate?
I know times are uncertain. I and my spouse are working on a ballpark estimate of $5M for retirement, and I have a good 6-figures each loaded up for this, if we sold our house you think we can do it in 5 years at most? I'm nearly 55.

Holy Smokes those car notes and monthly payments are insane
Those notes are average, if not below average now days. Have you seen the video of the dealership employees almost bragging about their $1200 - $1400 payments? Now that's insane!
Those payments are average as noted below. The car payments aren’t the issue, I bet they spend 3K + a month on Food & Amazon stuff.
The car payments on a 200k income aren’t horrible.
$850k mortgage on a 200k income ON TOP of the cars is the problem. $400-500k in a house would make way more sense for their income if they want to keep the cars.
We love to pick on car payments nowadays (and don’t get me wrong - it has gotten ridiculous with some of these payments my) but we never talk about being house poor. We make $140k in the Midwest and I was on the fence for a long time about spending $300k on our house because I thought it was a lot to take on for our income. I can’t even imagine a mortgage on an $850k house.. good lord.

So why would you sell your biggest asset to pay off debt? If the house is worth 800k and goes up a measly 2% a year, that is almost of 50k in 3 years of appreciation. I know you dont see it until you sell but if you sell and rent, you’ll spend 30-40k a year in rental income and have no tax benefits, and the only equity payments you’ll be making will be will be for your landlord each time you pay your rent and he/she pays their mortgage.
