"Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes." Thanks Zoe. I was a teenager when the guidelines came out in the late 70s, and as a result, I had a lot of health problems for over 20 years. Hypoglycaemia, migraines, and the like. After 3 years of LCHF, my migraines have all but disappeared, low blood sugar episodes all gone. We all are getting heathy one voice at a time.

4 months in and I've lost 25 pounds effortlessly AND blood pressure is down. Triglycerides are way down and HDL is up. Yes, my LDL increased, but this is an indicator of nothing except maybe that my body is utilizing the dietary cholesterol to repair damaged cells.

The biggest reduction in risk comes from replacing saturated fats with PUFA's. Oh and these have never been shown to be inflammatory to any reasonable extent in humans

To autobot below, you have offered to one jot of evidence to back you up. you ask why Keys is so quoted, thats because he alone CHANGED the dietary guidelines. I go on evidence from what I read across a range of sources ad my own experience. You say carbs are essential YES they are but we make them ourselves, no need for the average person to take ay extra res at all. I have bee Keto for 9 months now. No sign of my body breaking down. In fact just did a HIIT session fasted on my bike .... How does that fit in with what you say ?

Nonsense ... prove it as the entire weight training people are going Keto (Ref BodyBuilding.com) ... Eating only plants shows a lack of the understanding of biology, nutrition, and “Nature in General” … As follows …
1.3 Billion years ago the Plant and Animal kingdoms diverged … these 2 kingdoms have “2 completely and opposite Metabolisms” - obvious examples: are “Cholesterol” and fat metabolism (Non-existent in plants) - Using oxygen vs. making oxygen.
The Folly: Thinking that “Only eating Plants” will solve or complete our understanding of “Animal Metabolism” shows a lack of understanding. You forget that “Humans are Animals” and this fact cannot be left out when considering “Nutritional Requirements”.
The Folly: Focusing on the Plant Kingdom and ignoring our own Kingdom …
We have very little in common with plants anymore … If it was not for the intestinal microbiome (Gut bacteria) animals could not use plants at all … modern plants are inherently a poor energy source and a poor source of nutrients without this symbiosis with our gut microbiome. In addition, “Plants” have the same reliance, since without the bacterial symbiosis with their roots, plant do not survive.
      Ignorance is “Not Bliss” …
70 Going On 100 … the Centenarian Diet … maybe 70 Going On 128 … the Hayflick Limit, or if a fan of Ray Kurzweil … then this is all a Moot Point.

hence the best diet for humans is Animal and plant, natural foods .... that is my mantra and basically cut out all processed foods. It is a simple diet, it is the diet people eat before modern food and the explosion of cancer, hear attacks etc.

+Carroll Hoagland the winds of change have begun to blow. Diet is an interesting by product of my own awakening. I got into this to beat psoriatic arthritis by reducing inflammation. Sadly, it hasn't worked, but I've found the proper way to fuel my organism. Now, I'm not necessarily an optimist, and I struggle to remain sanguine when I observe the world around me, but people are waking up. I did abruptly in August of 2015. It wasn't something I wanted, anticipated or processed well. Get my drift? Anyway, love your spunk! 45...I wanna live well, but I've had it with these hu-mans

You could have mentioned the major difference between yours and cochrane review. Cochrane protocol was preregistered and the primary outcomes decided 15 years ago. Your protocol wasn't pre-registered nor the outcomes decided prior. Also, you have written diet books favoring high fat diets prior to your review. Honestly, these two reasons are enough to question your review and your conclusions.

Palm oil and coconut oil are some of the most saturated fats that exist. Most animal fats are about 50% saturated and the rest mostly mono-unsaturated. The polyunsaturated oils are seed oils. Olive oil is mostly monounsaturated. Hardened plant fats are a major source of saturated fats (and transfats).
Fish are quite low in saturated fat.
It really is a bit all over the place.

    Let's play QnA
    Q
    1. Is a large LCHF or HCLF meal more associated with CVAs and MI's within 2 hours of eating?
    2. Is LCHF or HCLF more associated with endothelial dysfunction?
    3. When in human history has LCHF provided a longevity advantage?
    4. What diet has sustained civilizations longest?
    5. Which of the current Blue Zone communities has a LCHF diet?
    6. What percentage of the world's population is lactase deficient after weaning from breast milk?
    7. Which plants are associated with increased cancer risk?
    8. Which animal produce are associated with increased cancer risk?
    9. What exactly is the advantage of a LCHF diet?
    A
    1. LCHF
    2. LCHF
    3. Never has LCHF provided a longevity advantage.
    4. HCLF diets have sustained civilizations longest across multiiple generations, by ensuring food security during droughts and floods.
    5. No Blue Zone community eats a LCHF diet.
    6. 75% of the world's population is lactase deficient after weaning. So that writes off dairy as a source of fat on a LCHF diet.
    7. No plants are associated with increased cancer risk.
    8. A higher level of any animal produce is associated with increased risk of one cancer or another.
    9. Some people with insulin resistance after years of eating a poor diet and getting obese are more comfortable eating a lot of fat and cutting refined carbs.

How about you redivert your precious time and energy from schoolboy sarcasm to reading the literature, and prove me wrong.
Zoe Harcombe is not formally educated in the biological sciences, and neither are you, nor has she researched the field for 30+ years. Her presentation is pulp bogan fodder. She has ignored the mountain of science associating dietary fat with cardiovascular disease, and meat and dairy with multiple cancers.....and no I am not a vegan.

    • @quizzart2704
      @quizzart2704 7 років тому +5

Again all i am asking for are your sources for your astounding claims. I do look at evidence (all of it not just on one side), can you provide me with the evidence behind your claims? I am genuinely interested in a couple of your claims as I have never heard anything about them like your Q 1.

    • @helicart
      @helicart 7 років тому

Dude, I've read the literature, I've researcehd, and I am a clinician.
My 'claims' are astounding only to unread LCHF zealots.
I didn't pull those questions or answers out of a cloaca, or off some narcissist who thinks she knows better. They come from the literature, as you'd know if you read.....but you obviously don't, which is why you are astounded!!!
I don't care to spoon feed the literature to someone of your ilk. Where would it stop? Recognize your bias, and take a slice of humble pie.....recognize your propensity to be confidence tricked by the likes of someone of Harcombe's demeanor. Just because she is articulate, just because she is witty and pithy, doesn't mean she knows the science. The best scientists I know are extremely poor presenters and wouldn't impress someone as yourself. But they know how to weight each paper they read appropriately. The dilettantes of the world like Harcombe don't. There's over 10,000 studies in this field that she thinks she knows better, after reading what % of them? As far as sceptics go, I've heard better than her, Cordain, Lustig, Sisson, Wolf, Volek, Phinney, Atkins, etc, etc.
Go away and research the questions I asked above. I have sick people to tend. And if you are as smart and committed to the truth as you think you are, you'll stop reading best sellers, and read the literature......that's if you are educated in the biological sciences in the first instance. If not, then don't read the literature.
