Gidday mate, it's me again, the Sikaflex commenter. You're doing great with the windows and I feel your pain with the sanding. No, the 10 foot rule won't work because when you are sitting in your cockpit you're not 10 foot away from your dodgy paintjob. A pro spray painter told me once 95% of a good paintjob is the preparation. Painting it is the easy bit. What will speed up your sanding is to remove every screwed on fitting on the boat including those wood rub rails. That will give you more machine sanding less hand sanding. Most of the fittings will need rebedding anyway to stop leaks. Then you can fill all the dings and holes with an easily sanded epoxy fairing filler (see West System epoxy and fairing powders) light sand, then your ready to paint. Have fun.
Your 100% right, for the work that has gone into this boat so far they is not much point in cutting corners, thank you for your advice is very helpful ⛵️🙏🙏
I wanted to say the same thing. Take the fittings off, they will need resealing (been there), then sand, fill, and prime. There's no such thing as a cheap boat. By the time it's done, you'll have at least 100 hours in it. And time is money (and so are all those materials), so you might as well do a proper job.
Applied the 10ft rule while painting my cabin top. Works excellent! Will never go again without that rule in the future. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to see your boat in the water again!
Who would of thought a £1 boat restoration would turn into a great UA-cam channel 😊 You should of done BBQ and got a load of mates round for a sanding day 🤣 Keep the good work up lovin it buddy especially your sense of humour 👍🏻 OMG that’s my local and we love their steak pudding 😋

Just to throw another idea in I’m planning to put the windows in with VHB tape by 3m I’m hoping even neater than sikaflex and as you say no screws or bolts to leak. Maybe consider as it’s the future of bonding windows in I’m thinking. Great content keep it up👍🥃

I recommend knifing stopper. Once you get in a rthym it's very quick to full in all the nicks and dings. Also suggest removing all the fittings before paint.
Definitely need to have a second go at removing the fittings as some of them are very hard to access for the bolts I have no idea how they was fitted in the first place as there completely out of reach some of them but that’s the next task 🙏⛵️⛵️

If you could find a way of hooking up a shop vac to your sander dust collector your disks would last 2 or 3 times as long, as those disks are just becoming clogged with the dust, the cutting ability is still there, but you need to capture that material in a vacuum bag rather than in the discs!
I admire your sanding skills immensely 🙌 so much so, that I would love to see a live show, on the South west coast, prepping my hull for its Coppercoat 😃 Of course, I'm not one to deprive hard working folk of the fun stuff, so I'd be happy if you wanted to also apply the Coppercoat 🤪🤣 Seriously though, love your vids 😁

Use car window glue/silicone for the windows. Much more durable and stiffer. Don’t know the correct name in English for it…. But it’s important to use the right primer on the windows and the frames. Sikaflex won’t last as long as this.
Sorry to say it but it’s a long way of the standard you require. We can tell with the amount of effort you are putting into your boat it’s to be completed to a high standard. Keep up the good work, the effort will pay off.
This is bit extreme however these bilge keel boats sail like pigs unless you remove the keels, get them machined to a basic fluid dynamic form and carefully rpelace them in the axis of a fore and aft line then you will find they sail pretty well. Great so far
Massive exaggeration. Some bilge keels don't point up well, that's not true of all. But round the extreme tidal waters and shallows of the UK they more than come into their own being able to settle at low tide and able to cross the swatchways. z
It’s definitely becoming a money pit but worth it just for the fun of it. Time is always the biggest issue but every spare moment I have I will be on it, there is definitely no time scale anymore as it’s taking longer than I would have ever imagined ⛵️⛵️⛵️🙏🙏
To do a 'proper' job all the deck fittings need to be removed, makes working around them much easier. I think that the 'ten foot' rule only applies to buildings, not boats! However you cannot have perfection in an imperfect world!
Comment number three when sanding in the rounds joines try using a six inch piece of pool noodle it will confer to the corners and save your fingers, unless your hiding your finger prints from the police that is
Finally, more 1 Squid Yacht. 21 Degrees? Nah, too hot, 18 Degrees is perfect, again, the weather is still dodgy, may or may not be sunny or absolutely bucketing it down. I couldn't do half of this, I can build you a TnG wall, but it might not have straight cuts, and wil certainly have half a finger and a gallon of blood everywhere when I drill through my finger.
If you want see man using a sander on a boat sanding again as per the last 2 videos this is for you the opposite of watching paint dry....but far more boring we don't kneed to see you useing a sander for every bit of gel coat as for your sanding discs try useing the mesh sanding discs won't clog as fast & last ages
Sorry for boring you 🤣 just can’t help the order this is happening I will definitely be finishing the sanding of camera as I am all bored of doing it 🤣🤣⛵️

I will give her a go as she is for now, it’s going to take me long enough to get that far, but it’s great information 🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️
Massive exaggeration. Some bilge keels don't point up well, that's not true of all. But round the extreme tidal waters and shallows of the UK they more than come into their own being able to settle at low tide and able to cross the swatchways. z
Grab yourself a block of rubber for cleaning discs they last ages that way !!
This answer has popped up a lot in my comments since I started sanding and still not tried this method, I need too. Thank you 🙏 ⛵️
I reckon you should name her Lazerous as she’s risen from the dead.
Naming this boat is definitely on the next video. I have had so many suggestions, definitely risen kinda from the dead, not fully yet 🤣🙏⛵️⛵️
I think it would look better and cleaner if you glue the glass on to the inside instead
Ohhhh now that’s a great idea, love this suggestion 🙏🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️
when does a bargain become a money pit, is there a cut off time/issue ? great vids good luck.
It’s definitely becoming a money pit but worth it just for the fun of it. Time is always the biggest issue but every spare moment I have I will be on it, there is definitely no time scale anymore as it’s taking longer than I would have ever imagined ⛵️⛵️⛵️🙏🙏
@@BoatzUK sorted and again good luck bonny lad.
@@bensouthwell1339 thank you 🙏
i thought it was safety third.
If it was not on you tube there would be no safety 🤣
Why don’t you use 0.5 oz glass cloth and epoxy resin. It should get rid of those pinholes
It’s probably going to come to that, would be easier 🙏⛵️
To do a 'proper' job all the deck fittings need to be removed, makes working around them much easier. I think that the 'ten foot' rule only applies to buildings, not boats! However you cannot have perfection in an imperfect world!
Definitely I can’t agree more 🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️
Comment number three when sanding in the rounds joines try using a six inch piece of pool noodle it will confer to the corners and save your fingers, unless your hiding your finger prints from the police that is
That’s definitely a great idea as it does sand them finger prints down well 🤣🙏⛵️
Finally, more 1 Squid Yacht.
Please try not to drill through your finger 🤣 that’s definitely something I would do 🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️
@@BoatzUK Definitely **NOT** Recommended, for sure.
🤣🤣 stay safe
@BoatzUK I'll try, next week, I may decide to lop off a knee for some reason.
@JTScottOfficial 🤣🤣🤣
👍🦘🇦🇺
Thank you Craig ⛵️🙏
go for dinner
Definitely 🤣🙏⛵️
The 10ft rule doesn't always work. I wish I'd known about the 10ft rule when I first met my ex-wife. 🤣
@@Alan_AB I wonder if he uses this rule of me 🤔🤔
Of course not 🤣
That’s the best one yet 🤣🤣⛵️🙏
If you want see man using a sander on a boat sanding again as per the last 2 videos this is for you the opposite of watching paint dry....but far more boring we don't kneed to see you useing a sander for every bit of gel coat as for your sanding discs try useing the mesh sanding discs won't clog as fast & last ages
Sorry for boring you 🤣 just can’t help the order this is happening I will definitely be finishing the sanding of camera as I am all bored of doing it 🤣🤣⛵️
