You've turned a corner with this project; you've stopped taking stuff off and started putting stuff on! Nice to see the thing looking like it has an owner.
Hello from Ireland again, guys. Good luck Claire, she is always very busy doing something lol. This Primer is going to transform this Boat. God, you have come a long way, since the Start, lol. Wow, what a transformation. It's a boat again. Great job Pal. 🙏🙏💋👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you 🙏 she likes to keep busy, also a great help as it’s speeds the job up massively with that extra pair of hands, it’s coming together slowly but definitely feels better to see a new colour ⛵️⛵️🙏🙏
Hey Cliff great video the £1 boat looks so much better mate transformed totally, that island 🏝 trip looked interesting, while you were mixing that paint it gave me backache lol 😂. Cheers 🍻 and looking forward to more progress.
@@BoatzUK yes we are all good mate thanks just got home have been to Lincolnshire for a little break we love it there and want to move lol 😂 hope all good your end and have a great weekend cheers 🍻
woooooo another episode! that little submarine is starting to look like a boat again! now you just gotta slap an Orange (best color ever) top coat on it and it's basically ready for a circumnavigation lol
@@BoatzUK i'm doing alright, thanks for asking! trying to take 1 step closer to my boat owning big adventure dreams every day. and it's been like 35c or less for about 2 weeks, which feels great compared to the last couple months of around 40c lol
@@BoatzUK we have had enough rain every few days to make it humid, but not cool it down. like 5 minutes of rain around the outskirts of the city. it's greeeeeat🙄 lol
I have one of these, great little boats. Actually yours is a Vivacity mine is the earlier Alacrity. Well worth the effort. Mine is still awaiting some more tlc.
Ohh this is great, not seen many of these boats, I still have a long way to go but hopefully will get there soon, thanks for following the journey 🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️
My Dad sold industrial real estate and he was in the office of someone who was buying a new building waiting to finalize the sale. He had a fairly large amount of papers in front of him and he told Dad that as soon as he was finished going through them they had the rest of the day to conclude their business. The chap explained that the papers were bills for the company and he looked at everyone and then signed them so they could be paid. It seems when he first started the business an employee in the accounting department was helping themselves and the owner signed off on everything after that. No signature and it didn't get paid. Dad watched as he went through them and one he didn't look at but just signed and added it to the pile. He look up and told Dad that that was the marina bill and he never looked at that one and just signed it. As I said before the two most expensive things in the world are a cheap boat and a free dog. The 1 pound yacht is coming along very nicely.
Good to see you back and getting on with the wee boat👍 We’ve not had any kind of season either up here, as you said, trying to combine time off with good weather has proved near impossible. I think I’ll be lucky to have put 10 hours on my engine so far this year! The joys of boat ownership in Scotland 😂. If you’ve got more paint mixing to do, let me know and I’ll send you down some paddles, I keep them in stock👍👍👍🛥️🏴
Managed to get two trips in this year, it’s definitely not been great, I am lifting my Aquastar out on Tuesday for the winter as have a few jobs to do so that’s the end of my boating for this year, thank you that’s much appreciated, hopefully I will have this little boat in the water before the year is out 🤣 ⛵️🙏🙏🙏
While I agree with those who have recommended that you remove the remaining hardware before painting, I understand and respect that it is your boat, your call. However, if you leave the stanchions and other hardware in place, I would strongly recommend removing the screws and use 3M 4200 to reseal them. Similarly, I would caulk the stanchion bases with 4200 as well after the painting is complete. I know how satisfying to get some paint down! You’ve definitely turned a corner.
Please steer clear of liquid cooled outboards and giant hunk 2 cycles. If you do 2 batteries, a pair of six volts in series will give much better service than two 12 volters in parallel, to squabble about voltage. Chinese chest freezers aren't expensive. I bought a modest Shakespeare 5104 VHF antenna and didn't drill any holes for the cable. It can run out a window and the whole thing unscrews and stows away. The range is excellent. What a deserving British sailboat. I saw a similar one in New York. It must have belonged to a Viking. Don't forget the limes, the first time you cross the Atlantic.
Thanks for the interesting comment! I'm definitely staying away from oversized two-strokes and am considering the battery setup you mentioned-I've heard good things about the 6-volt series option. A chest freezer might be a handy addition for longer trips too! As for the antenna, it’s great to hear that the Shakespeare 5104 performs so well without needing major modifications. Sounds like you've got some great experience with small boats! And I'll be sure to keep the limes handy if I ever cross the Atlantic-wouldn't want to let any Viking spirits down! Thanks again for the tips and for checking out the project! 🙏⛵️
Some of the hardware was un-accessible, with this only being a cheap little boat I feel that it would hardly make a difference in the end result and I huge time saver to get her back in the water, it would have been better and easier to paint with everything removed but time I don’t have much of so I just keep on moving forward 🙏⛵️
No-one ever listens to me...... despite the fact I've been there😢 I did say to take all the deck fittings off before you start. You WILL have to take them all off to reseal them anyways (sic) as they will all leak, and your shiny boat outside will be damp and mildew inside. If you'd taken all the deck fittings off, when re-installed, they would be sealing to to new flat paint, instead of the shit surface that is under them. Which, of course, you will have to sand down anyway and touch up (another tin of primer and topcoat). Do it properly, or not at all was my dad's maxim. And the bugger was always right!
Thanks for sharing your experience and advice-sounds like you've definitely been through this process before! I completely get where you're coming from, and you're right that sealing the fittings is essential to avoid leaks, I’ll make sure to clean and prep the area properly before re-sealing to ensure a watertight finish. It’s all part of the long game of getting this restoration done right! Definitely don’t want to deal with mildew and leaks after all the effort. Thanks again for looking out!
my 2 cents, when mixing with paints like that put something under it, any spills are very bad for the environment. I see a lot of old paint lying about too, I would have been thrown off the yard if I dis such a thing over here in the Netherlands....
Primer looks good but you should have removed all the stainless steel. Water will find its way around the paint and into the boat. A proper job is not just good looks.
I appreciate the feedback! I opted to leave the fittings in place because they are securely mounted and designed to withstand exposure to the elements. Removing them could potentially cause unnecessary wear or damage, especially if there’s no need to access the areas beneath them. By carefully priming around them, I was able to ensure a thorough and even coat without compromising the integrity of the fittings. It also saves time and avoids the risk of misalignment when reattaching them, ensuring the boat stays fully functional while still getting the necessary maintenance.

Quick question: Why leave some wood and hardware on the boat?
Looks counter productive when the results are that great just with primer.
