- Much like the development of this film, my trailer reaction was in purgatory. After much editing, here is my reaction to #thecrow
The Crow is an upcoming American supernatural superhero film directed by Rupert Sanders from a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, based on the 1989 limited comic book series of the same name by James O'Barr. It will be the fifth installment in The Crow film series, serving as its reboot and the remake of the 1994 film. The film stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven / The Crow, a murdered musician who is resurrected to avenge the deaths of himself and his fiancée, played by FKA Twigs.
The film entered development in December 2008, with Stephen Norrington stating that he would write and direct a "reinvention" of The Crow. It entered a complicated production process with various directors, screenwriters, and cast members attached at various points.
The Crow is set to be released in the United States by Lionsgate on June 7, 2024.

This Crow looks just like a different Crow Comic Book from the 90s.
Yeah that's what they are going for more comic book elements moreso than the movie
Insomniac Writer honestly I can't believe ITS FINALLY HERE! after 15 years of being stuck in development hell, people are shitting on this movie for a few reasons A understandably because of what happened to Brandon Lee and his accidental death on set. But mostly because people don't think a Remake is a necessary I respectfully disagree not a lot of people know that the movie is based on a graphic novel, plus there are people out there who've never even heard of The Crow remaking it now for a new generation will get people's attention and gain their curiosity about the character in general. It will get them to check out the 94 film, it will get them to check out the graphic novel, and hopefully the much underrated sequel in my book The Crow Salvation which was easily the best of sequels, Director Rupert Sanders when talking about the new movie acknowledged the death of Brandon Lee by saying "what happened to Brandon Lee was a tragedy and we very much feel his presence was with us when we were filming this we aren't trying to diminish or tarnish Lee's memory or his legacy in any way, we hope he's proud of what we've done. We very much feel Bill is a successor that". The movie has a very solid screen writer Zach Baylin who wrote movies like Creed III, Grand Turismo, and King Richard, I really think Rupert Sanders knows what he's doing and I think it shows by what he had to say about the film in a recent interview
“‘The Crow’ is the original anti-superhero,” Sanders said in a newly released statement. “His story is about tragic loss, about dealing with the pain of everything that comes with losing someone you love, something that all of us have or will encounter at some point in our lives. It is about the dark shadow of grief, about what we would do when something so meaningful is taken from us.”
He also added “The original graphic novel is deeply meaningful for so many, and the character, his journey and his need for revenge has inspired a canon of films for the last three decades. Our version goes back to that graphic novel by James O’Barr, who I had the honor of meeting shortly before production, and explores the love story as the primary drive for our film.”
Brandon Lee's memory and his legacy will always be there the original movie will always be a classic and it will always be a beloved movie, the point of remaking it is to honor Brandon Lee's memory and his legacy, by retelling this beloved story for a new generation. As long as this movie honors the roots and spirit of the original story then Lee's memory is still being honored, its like when Heath Ledger died when Joaquin Phoenix was cast as The Joker for the Joker movie the point wasn't to replace or disrespect Ledger's memory it was to do something with the character that had never been done before. To show him in a different light same thing with The Crow and the sooner more people realize this then the more the legacy of The Crow as a character can live on
Well said. I could have not put more thoughtfully and beautifully. I have high hopes for this one and I am glad it is finally happening. I agree I don't think that it will tarnish Lee's memory. I also love Bill Skarsgård and I think that this will be good. Also I believe the director did Snowwhite and the Huntsman so I have faith this will awesome. Although there is a part of me that wonders how this film would have been like with Jason Momoa...lol.

@@InsomniacWriter it really sounds like Rupert Sanders knows what he's doing I'm still not digging tattoos though, I get why they did it they wanted to modernize his look tattoos are everywhere these days. A lot of people have them but it just doesn't look good on Eric
Yeah it takes away from the facial makeup but I'm guessing it's to modernize it. Even when the original came out and the main character was supposed to be a musician... not many musicians don't have tats
I love your video, format and movie knowledge too! I am another old-school fan of the original movie. Saw it in the theater when I was 14. There was a certain magic from that movie that had to do with the time it was released, the soundtrack, and the tragedy of Brandon‘s death. I really think this new one shouldn’t have been about Eric and Shelly. I read about some of the story leaks from the test screenings and the story sounds so different they might as well have made him a different character. The original director has disavowed it because he feels Eric Draven was Brandon Lee’s legacy.
Oh and just wanted to make a minor correction: it wasn’t a bullet that killed BL, it was a shard of metal that was lodged into the barrel of the gun from a previous round. When it was loaded with another blank and fired, it pretty much acted like a bullet. It was the scene where Eric walks into the apartment while Shelly is being assaulted. What was supposed to happen was that Brandon Lee was holding a bag of groceries with a squib in it that was supposed to simulate him being shot but when they fired the gun at him, he actually got shot in the stomach. It was all caught on film but they destroyed the footage.

Oh yeah I just saw a video on that on here somewhere. I totally forgot about the piece of metal. Thanks for correcting. I was about 13/14 then and it seemed so surreal but I agree when the film and soundtrack released there indeed was something special about it. I think the actor that accidently shot him passed a few years ago also. So so sad.
I am wondering how this will go and it seems like they are leaning more towards the comic depiction of Eric Draven. I agree, they could have picked any other character from the series but I think Bill can pull it off.
My kid loves the comics so we may both enjoy this together. 🤞🏽

Hate it .....they erased everything that makes the original great. Secondly they shouldve left the Eric Storyline alone, it should be forever Brendans. They should have taken another Story from the Comic books.
Only thing that might make it work is that Bill just looks so physically imposing at like 6 foot 4 and lean like that like a young Jordan or Michael Phelps.

This looked interesting. I see they took more Liberties since things are filmed different now compared to back then. More violence and gore now.

I have been a fan of the original Crow ever since I can remember and yes it is a remake and they are using the names Eric and Shelly but by watching this trailer I feel like I'm watching another Crow movie like City of Angels salvation and wicked prayer. Is this movie going to be good I don't know but I'm going to give it a chance I'm going to sit through it just like a crow movie like the others.
I'm thinking they are gonna lean more towards the comics, which may divide folks but I'm gonna give it a try and definitely catch up on parts 3 and 4. City of Angels is underrated
Some people are saying that this film looks more like John Wick. Let's hope they do job with this one.

@@InsomniacWriter You're welcome. From what I see, this movie should have different time periods, storyline & generations of the recent and previous crows who are still alive and well in a realm . I glad to the the Skull cowboy is guiding him and letting him know what's going on just like from the comic books. It should reveal that they're other crows than just Eric Draven. Well that's my thoughts for this movie, what do you think ?
I'm thinking that they are going to hope that this makes money so they can dish out sequels for other Crow characters 🤔. Idk because this particular Draven based on the trailer has multiple inspired looks. But I could be wrong

It has style, I'll give it that. It's just too bright light and not goth dark enough for me. I'll be dayum if I pay money to see it, but I'll maybe watch it down the line. I don't have all the vitriol most have for it, cause I understand at the end of the day...everything we know and love in entertainment will get the reboot/remake treatment anyways. (In an Agent Smith voice) It's inevitable. 😆

It’s like salvation and stairway to heaven the TV movie that was made to tie in with the tv series those are the two best of the series but they can’t live up to the Brandon lee movie
The 1st film will forever be special to us all. I definetely will check out Salvation and Wicked Prayer. The show was pretty good from what I recall. Plus I had crush on Mark Dacascos back in the day

Hello When Is the New Crow Movie Coming Out 🐦⬛

This movie took a lot of liberties with the story. The character appears to be a person with drug use issues and was in a rehab along with his female lead. People have went ape shit about him looking like a doper etc the tats and all that. Well guess what? And its a good one.. During pre production of the first movie the writer and director wanted to downplay eric dravens drug use that was in the graphic novel and focus everything on it being about love. Which absolutely fine to do. Well this very same production company. Edward R Pressman productions decided this time to leave in erics drug use and all that it pertains or better spin something up off of that original source material. And people are critical of it when its coming from source material. Its being some what more faithful to the original work. So thats where the new look sort of comes from. In it Draven had an ever so slight mullet cut. This character does to. But not slight haha. Anyway the critics are panning this like hell. They did it to City Of Angels as well. Which became a box office hit for the crow franchise. I think this will do pretty good just like CIty Of Angels did. I think we saw a lot in this trailer as far as trailers go. And I think there is a whole lot more they arent showing. I think this shits gonna off the rails with slaughtering these bastards. Which is good let this man kill every damn one of them!!! Im all for this movie. God Bless Brandon Lee his legacy continues to live on with yet another film. Thats awesome not a disrespect to his final film or legacy. Loved the review thank you.
Thanks and yes I agree 100 percent. I think it'll do well and at least draw in fans of the comics and perhaps new fans who haven't seen the original 1st film. I dug Vincent Perez in the 2nd one. I do owe it to myself to watch the other films innthe series. One thing I can say about Bill Skarsgård is that he is very versatile in all of his roles so I have hope 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
@@InsomniacWriter Yeah City Of Angels was well produced and well funded and it shows versus the last two. This and City Of Angels will be the definitive follow up movies when all is said and done. Perez did the role justice. And Skarsgard looks to have in this.

yeah but you got to consider one thing. 80,000 dislikes versus nearly 3 million views. Just because folks didnt click the like button didnt mean they didnt like it. Most people arent youtube regulars who use the like and dislike system. they see the trailer advertised somewhere and just follow it to youtube watch and leave.

I'm torn you could have brought anyone back to life but to use Eric Draven,that is a big dishonor to Brandon Lee's Legacy! Bill Skarsgård is a great actor, but watching the trailer the way they changed everything it gives it a John Wick/ Batman dark Knight feel and him as suicide squad joker look! They made a few different films with different characters based off the comic books and the books why couldn't they do that with this one?

It is looking amazing they took stuff directly out of the comic they took stuff directly out of salvation I noticed a lot of things pulled from the series blended together and I like the original take on the eric and Shelly story I can go on forever on why this is amazing and works but it it’s not enough
