Aesop is one of those illusive figures who just creates the best art but will never be fully appreciated. I have listened to Malibu Ken more than any other album.
All Aesop drops is modern masterpieces Labor days, None shall pass, Fast cars danger fire and knives, skelathon, the impossible kid, spirit world, Malibu Ken, garbology etc etc Aesop just turns into your favorite emcee once it clicks for you, a lot of people listen and just hear babbling and are like wtf is he talking about but once it clicks you just get lost in him
Damn I hope so, but I also think most of Aesop’s discography should be “classic”. At some point I believe there will be some kind of hip hop college class that studies this man. He puts more content into lyrics and songs in 4 mins than most do in a whole album.
Only a matter of time.. I think anyone who appreciates him is only bound to grow and this album specifically blows the rest out of the water. Both amazing artists but together, greater than the sum of their parts.
@@laceeshorloh7753 It's definitely not my favourite Aes album, but I don't really see it as an Aes album if that makes sense? Like, this is purely its own weird entity that transcends both the artists, guess it's just Malibu Ken lol, we're lucky that we got this one.
I love Churro. I think it makes a great companion piece to 10,000 o'clock from Skelethon. 10,000 o'clock is like "What if animals thought about fame and attention the way people do?" Churro is like: "For real though. DON'T apply human values to nature".
It's crazy for someone who hasnt to think that someone could get into this kind of storytelling hip hop style, and it seems so drawn out and confusing until you get sucked in and start listening and then it's hard to understand how someone could not appreciate lyrical and cultural storytelling genius like this. I went from listening to RTJ in 2020 to listening to elp and killer mike in 2021 and then finally finding aesop from an el p song in late 2021. In the one and a half years I've been listening to him hes become my complete favorite artist and will probably stay that way for a long time 🥰🤤
My favorite on this album was 1+ 1 = 13 the tone of the music, the composition, it just kinda feels like your in this smokey almost ethereal casino. GAWD is this album good!
I'm not even half way through the vid. But this channel is a hidden gem. You just got one sub, and I know a few people who I bet would dig this. Keep doing what you're doing man.
Aesop is my favorite rapper hands down. None Shall Pass and forward. The man just creates to the beat of his own drum... machine. He's so inspiring. Reminds me to do what I want, fuck what other people think
interesting fact: aesop was about 10 or 11 at the time this happened and ended up attending the same highschool kasso had and throughout the music video the malibu ken face is wounded the same way lauer was during the killing
Thank you so much, this album is actually on a whole other level from anything, Aes is my favorite artist, and Tobacco is just so beyond BA. I highly recommend digging into both of there discogs.
In my opinion, for those that just heard of Aesop Rock thru Tobacco, beware, this man's lyricism is off the charts, the greatest of all time. And I'm a wutang head.
Aesop also did a song about a swiss airplane crash in Nova scotia that is in a similar vein check it out. The uncluded - Tv on 10 The uncluded was a project with Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson.
Been an Aes fan for about 11 years, and this is definitely one of my favorite albums by far. Aesop is such a great storyteller, and Tobaccos production makes me think of Blockhead but way more expirimental, and it's all melds together so wonderfully.
About 6 months or so ago, by chance, i discovered that song. It was love at first listen. I have been into Tobacco's music for a long while, hearing him collaborate with Rocky is such a perfect compliment to their styles and sounds. At the two minute and thirty four second mark, towards the last third of the track Acid King, when the overall tempo/pacing if the song swells up into a groovier, more danceable beat, and Aesop's vocals keep in perfect timing to them, is such a satisfying sonic treat. Such an outstanding track, about a genuinely horrific incident.
I was not expecting Tobacco to be featured in this video. Was a pretty big fan of Fucked Up Friends when it dropped in ‘09. Saw Black Moth Super Rainbow that year and my crew met up at Tobacco’s set after we all finally made it inside Bonnaroo ‘09 because it’d make for a nice little festival opener and it’d be easy to find one another. There were maybe 50 people watching his set in the drizzling rain on a humid June night in Tennessee. Haven’t thought about that set in a good while. What a good time that was
Been on tobacco sincr bmsr and ace for ever, was stoked and surprised on the collab, glad they're getting traction. "Radio silent" is a bit of a teach since both entities slap a load of content in their own right
Hey great video im a big Aesop rock fan and this was very informative and please keep doing what your doing here you got amazing energy oh and congratz on getting through finals lol
I started listening to rap because of this album. Also I bought it on CD recently (it is so hard to get it in Poland oh my god) and I absolutely love cover art and all this extra stuff like a paper mask (dont know if vinyl has it to) I was just shocked when I got it
Hey, if anyone is interested, there was a film made about the Ricky Kasso events called Ricky Six. I cut up the footage and set it to this song to help tell this story. It's on my channel, so check it out if you want! I think it turned out well...
They new aesop album is legit fire of course. Alot of people don't know that he is legit technically one of the best of all time. They've done studies on his word play and amount of words and metaphors and all that he uses.
No cap, malibu Ken was one of my most played in 2019, and is probably one of my favourite Aesop Rock albums, up there with Labour days, None Shall Pass, and Fast Cars, And Impossible Kid, and all that shit. So fucking good. Instant classic.
So ima put perspective to asoeps rapping style for the few anyone who doesn't know. Aesop is a master at taking mundane life events and creating vivid stories about them. Going deep into his thoughts its fantastic. From a donut shop symbolizing the afterlife, to even something that isn't super deep but interestingly told like Grace. Which btw is literally about how he didn't like to eat green beans as a kid, which is done in a way that slays. My favorite track is racing stripes and its about getting a hair cut, but then the second half of the song is a story about his friend. Its funny playful, and has a message about basically living your life while you got it. Seriously recommend people check him out.
Been a tobaxxo fan since I was 12. Me and my brother bonded over tom fec even sending him some music that he's rated (he told us our music was bad and rightfully so. We were shit when we were kids) but now we're older and we can go to tobacco shows whenever he goes to Chicago. Zackey force funk needs to collab with tom fec to make another Demon Queen album.
Nice to see gushing praise for this as it was my by and far favorite release of 2019. I like to imagine that there's an alternative universe where lo-fi synthwave beats became the standard in early hip-hop as opposed to the 808. After I heard this album, all I thought was that this sound should become its own sub-genre of hip-hop. For anyone that is interested, the new Atmosphere album (The Day Before Halloween) seems to have taken a lot of instrumental inspiration from this album. That album is one of my faves from this year, but Malibu Ken is the hands down reigning president/czar/prime-minister/king shit of fuck mountain of this synthed-out and bit-crushed kingdom.
Aesop Rock when to the same high school as Ricky. And because he was a loner style, a lot of people bullied him and made direct comparisons. He said he always wanted to write a track about Ricky Casso.
I love the fact that you don't give a fuck about youtubes 'no fucking and shitting in on our platform' shit. Also, because of you I've started to listen to albums again. Thank you dude!
you should discuss his other super underrated/underdiscussed classic 'odd couple' album with Kimya Dawson as 'The Uncluded' - such a beautiful project...scissorhands/eyeball soup/tv on ten/organs/spin cycle
Man I LOVE Malibu Ken. My favorite album. Also, maybe check out Beneath the Toxic Jungle by Rav. It's not really anything unique but I really like it. Aesop Rock has a lot of other great records under his belt which you should check out.

Cherry, no. Whip, yes.
Or a song about how he doesn't like eating veggies *cough* Grace *cough*
