Great point to not use any more than one step aider on stick 2+!!!! I use one portable 18” aider that goes around my boot and top on versa button and 3 two step sticks. I can get 15+ feet with all distances at 18” I am also 6’3” Great content video.
If using a two to three step aider on second stick and worried about kicking out, I recommend once you get to the second stick, go ahead and transition to your tether as though you’re one sticking. It’s a lot better than just the linesman’s rope
I have switched to one sticking 2 seasons ago and absolutely love it. I sometimes bring a spare stick depending on the situation but that’s rare. The muddy stick with a 2 step aider works great if you still want a platform. I have the ultimate one stick which has the cam system like the muddy stick but it’s a nice minimalist platform all in one. Getting down is dependent on how I’m feeling and how high I am. I use my main tether going up and down the tree but I have a repelling rope for a redundant way or emergency way to get down if for some reason I drop my stick or something happens and I need a fast quick way to get don.
Just like with a hang on stand, the safest place for your platform is even with your top step so you are stepping straight down on it. But your numbers are still pretty right on. 👍
I completely agree, and that's usually where mine are, because it lets me pivot around the tree in my saddle for more shot opportunities. Thanks for watching!
I've hunted the last two years with two step sticks and a single aider. This year I started off with a two step aider on the bottom step. Now I decided to try one stick climbing and rappelling down. That will allow me to climb up to exactly the height I want to be at on just about any tree, and I feel it will be safer coming down than trying to climb down on sticks/aiders.
@@GeorgiaAfield I'll try to get you an update once I try it for a while. I've always liked the idea of rappelling down the tree but was unsure about one-stick climbing, but I recently picked up a set of used Muddy Pro sticks for cheap and then found someone selling a used U.P. platform that will fit it so I decided I'd give it a try. Hiking in with just saddle, ropes, and a 4 pound stick/platform sounds great if the climbing part isn't bad.
Thanks for this video, Brian! I just ordered a Tethrd Phantom, and am hoping Santa brings me some One Sticks for Christmas. I've been wondering how high I can climb, and this video helps a lot. As a new 58 year old saddle hunter, I'm trying to figure all this out. I could see some two-step aiders on the bottom step, but as a noob, I'm not sure about aiders on the rest of the steps. Once I get comfortable, that may change though. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of aiders are you using?
They are ones I bought off Etsy from The Amsteel Guy. I think I gave around $12-14/each for them. They definitely add a level of risk to your setup. I feel pretty comfortable with the one-step aiders, but I take my time. I know a lot of guys use multiple step aiders on all their sticks, but I personally would only use those on my bottom stick. I'm getting too old to fall from a tree 😂
I use 4 double step hawk heliums, my bottom stick has a 2 step aider, second and third has a single step aider, and my top stick has no aider. I can get between 25 and 30' depending on the weather. Most of my setups are around 15' so i don't outclimb my cover. I have a minimalist platform on my top stick and setup my predator-xl platform even with my top stick.
Enjoyed the video. Killed my share of deer, but still working on my first one out of a saddle with sticks. Where are you hunting? I just moved to SC and am just about to figure a few deer out.
I’m using the tethrd one sticks. (4) bottom sticks has a 3step aider & the other 3 single step. I’m getting roughly 25 ft. I bought a retractable dog leash from harbor freight & it’s 25 ft
I use 2- 3 step sticks. First stick has a 3 step aider and second has 2 step. 2 Sticks gets me 15'. Mostly depends on how high i can get that first stick.
Gonna try a saddle and this was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely want to give one-sticking a try to see if it's for me.

Let us know what you think of one-sticking. Seriously considering giving it a try.

@@GeorgiaAfield haha! Me too!
No more than 3 with a moveable aider. Anymore is just excess weight.

I’m in west-central Georgia. And thanks for watching!

Thanks for the info Michael. I'll have to check out the Harbor Freight dog leash!

Go with 2TC, and get as high as you want with no sticks.
I'm going to give that a try soon! Thanks for the feedback.
