I just ordered mine, carbon fiber and extra upgraded shock tower screws, i see that its the first thing that breaks. Being smaller then a true 1/10 is perfect for me, itll fit in my gym bag nicely.
Been waiting for this review. Seems like a good buy! I like that it's on the smaller side, that works better for me and the areas I actually get to run my RC cars.
It's a blast eh? I ordered one the day it was released and haven't regretted it for a minute. It's got more bang for the buck that anything else in its price range. I love their suspension too. It's a very dialed truck for the buck. I just wish it was a proper 1/10 scale. I dont know why the didn't. Just would have been more plastic. A quality truck for the money like this shows how much of the cost on the bigger names is sheer profit. On to something else,full congrats to Kev for his deal with primal! I was blown away the other night when I saw primal promo for the "game over" limited edition. Then watched Kevs latest video yesterday where he introduced and demo'ed it. That's a sick truck.

The size is actually what kept me from ordering one. I went with the brushed MT10 instead. Tower Hobbies is closing them out and I had a coupon so it was only $175. I then ordered a Hobbywing brushless 3660 set up for $90 and I think I have a great truck for $265!!
Nice one Tomley! I'll chalk that backwards diff business up to a FNG mistake. Every time I see a video on this truck though, it impresses me even more. Good job Rlaarlo!
I like Rlaarlo. I have a 917 and a 787. The quality control is a little suspect but you get a lot of RC for your money. I learnt from my experience with the 917 to go completely through my 787 when it arrived. Usually not enough oil in the shocks or some small parts missing. But don't let that put you off. They will get better at it and the cars are fantastic for the price.
Seen those screws bend on other videos, it seems like they used soft metal screws, I'd change the one on the shocks straight out the box and put some foam on the bottom of the battery tray to stop the battery sliding.
@noahblanco677 on the upper shocks, but I'd just replace all the screws. It's no good having soft metal screws. The heads can strip easily, so can the threads or if over tightened they the heads can twist off leaving the screw stuck in, and then you need a screw extractor. It's like when companies use cheap gun metal diffs. Hence, personally, I'd just replace all the screws.
Hi mate there is Gyro steering but you have to open the receive a box press a button and do something with the controller..I've ordered one 😊. Great video mate 👍 😅
Looks like a cool little truck, have one on order. As for the diffs, I had a similar issue on my AK-787. Not reversed, just they had the front diff filled with lighter oil than the rear. Made it a pain to keep in a stright line under hard acceleration. switched them around now dives like a dream. Did a vid not great but its there :)

after watching this thing jump, it handles like a car much bigger than its size. rlarrlo hit the nail on the head with this one. i agree that it is more along the lines of a "1/11" scale than 1/10, but 1/10th sizing seems to just be a ballpark figure with some of the smaller company offerings

@TomleyRC I think it will give traxxas a run for there money. The thing is I'd never heard for the brand until I saw it on your channel. I'm quite new to the hobby. And think people just think it's traxxas or not good enough. Which isn't the case. But I do own a traxxas stampede 4x4 vxl which has been modified. And I like the way you put an element of fun in your videos, makes you want to go and bash your car afterwards.😀
Great vid! I have ordered the carbon version too, but now we non-UA-camr all need patience. I am a little concerned about the strong nose-heaviness. I am yet a noob in driving and I guess I will produce lots of nose landings. Maybe in the end I will have to put some additional weight in the back...
Well Impressed with this other than the size stated. I'd go for the carbon one add electrics for an extra $10. and then paint my own colour. I'm really thinking of buying one now. Sweet landings Mr Phil.

You probably know this but wheel base is the measurement between the center of the front and rear driveshaft and track is the measurement from the middle off the left tire to the middle of the right tire. 😊

❤Phil put the battery in a tin for a week ,open the tin and if it doesn't smell sweet it's safe to charge but make sure you tape it up good over the foil spot

Common complaint. Apparently it's not programmable, or at least there are no instructions for it. I hope it will be similar to the gyro, so that the release cars get instructions with them on how to program it. Can't imagine there are non-programmable ESCs in this price range.

It looks like a fancier hbx 2997a that is also a small 1/10, 3s capable basher with a small battery tray and center diff I have that and its older brother 2996a and theyve been great under $200 bashers
The review didn’t disappoint. I have been waiting patiently for mine, but I'm not so patient now! Btw, There is a bigger pinion gear that has made quite a bit of difference to the speed in other reviews I've seen.
This would be a serious next step up from the 1/16th stuff out there, not only in terms of size, but also quality as it seems. Don't me wrong, the HBX, MJX, etc. 1/16 stuff is great, but this seems to be a far more serious car before switching to "big boy" stuff like the bigger Traxxas, Arrma or Rival cars. Will put that on my "to consider" list :)
This is an excellent review. The diff issue is almost funny. The little truck looked great on the off road track and seem to land very well. The battery damage is an example why it's best to have a hard case lipo.
sticky velcro in the battery tray and on the battery works for my 2s 2800mah! alongside battery straps of course. but since most batteries including mine are softshells, i figured making sure it doesn't get dinged is a good priority. still looks factory!
@@TomleyRC It right up there is the hand pointer. I have one of those too with a red light on the end. I wanted to use it for my channel, but darn it you beat me to it.
would be fun if they had the same fit but i don't think we're getting that lucky. the ABCD blocks look different on this, for starters. Maybe the screw holes and locator pins end up the same but i doubt it. If you're interested in getting a center diff into your older rlaarlo; if you take out the slipper assembly, a factory diff (i own a D12) will just fit in there. You'll need to butcher the outer driveshaft-bearing-seat off a diffcase, but it *could* work. Diff seems to line up perfectly with the motor mount (same size bearing) and the diffcase 2nd bearing seat(also same bearing as diff bearing). It could work, at least for a couple minutes. Fairly easy and cheap mod; plastic diffcase is a couple dollars. But theyre unsealed diffs so its just asking for problems that are then impossible to solve.
It's a 1\12 scale looking to me, but I guess rc companies can call it any scale they want regardless of the actual size. Love the channel and a big fan

Did you get to the bottom of whether a Gyro is included in the carbon edition. On their website they do say it is included, which might explain why it handled so well

I live in Greece but it's the same law for all EU countries. Tax is being payed by rlaarlo and already calculated in the price. They do the same thing in AliExpress and Bangood. I received the package from DHL so there is no way I could escape taxes. When I buy from other Chinese sites I pay taxes. (Vat + post fee).
If you got ti tax free, then you got lucky, here is a copy paste from the Rlaarlo page.. (Its just a gamble) Every product price on Rlaarlo site is not tax included, which means no tax is required here. However, if the parcels are detained by the customs, it will be the customer’s responsibility to communicate with the customs, and to pay duty tax if required by local cutstoms.
Depends on what 1/1 scale a RC car is derived from is what it would be in 1/10 scale. For example you wouldn't expect a Nissan NP200 to be the same size in 1/10 acale as a Ford Ranger in 1/10 scale.
Thats a little beast, ok the diff situation out the box is just unlucky, seems strange it isnt designed to fit diff one way only. Some blocks for battery placement. The front light bar, seems a bit weak, could do with out. But the way it drives is ultra impressive. Nice 'wee' 1/10
love the look of this,, ordered mine already on the pre order. Really like the HBX 2996a, another durable 1/12 with centre diff, this looks like a step up from that great value truck. Can't believe they put the diff in the wrong way round... I like the 1/12, lighter and smaller so more durable.. No interested in skate parks and 20foot jumps,, this will be used in the dirt for us and it looks perfect.
The Hbx 2997a has a center diff its the same size Phil ... and it's much cheaper than this 😊... but it still looks like a nice rig.. have a great day brother

Would guess you could get rid of the nose heaviness by adjusting the shocks. Adding weight will increase the risk of breaking the car.

Its worth mentioning the stock servo in almost every traxxas car is the 2056. it has plastic gears and 5.6 kg of torque.

The esc brake settings needs programming. But are all esc programmable without the optional card and come with instructions for program settings ?

Did you get to the bottom of whether a Gyro is included in the carbon edition. On their website they do say it is included, which might explain why it handled so well

I bought the AK787 and didn't pay any taxes. I live in EU. The only problem was that I waited 2 months as I made a pre-order.

I live in Greece but it's the same law for all EU countries. Tax is being payed by rlaarlo and already calculated in the price. They do the same thing in AliExpress and Bangood. I received the package from DHL so there is no way I could escape taxes. When I buy from other Chinese sites I pay taxes. (Vat + post fee).
Yes I previously bought two AK917 rollers & the Desert Buggy from Rlarrlo. Im in the UK, had no taxes to pay at all.
If you got ti tax free, then you got lucky, here is a copy paste from the Rlaarlo page.. (Its just a gamble)
Every product price on Rlaarlo site is not tax included, which means no tax is required here.
However, if the parcels are detained by the customs, it will be the customer’s responsibility to communicate with the customs, and to pay duty tax if required by local cutstoms.
Depends on what 1/1 scale a RC car is derived from is what it would be in 1/10 scale. For example you wouldn't expect a Nissan NP200 to be the same size in 1/10 acale as a Ford Ranger in 1/10 scale.

Thats a little beast, ok the diff situation out the box is just unlucky, seems strange it isnt designed to fit diff one way only. Some blocks for battery placement. The front light bar, seems a bit weak, could do with out.
But the way it drives is ultra impressive. Nice 'wee' 1/10
You said best handling small Rc so I’m curious if you think it handles better than the 1/12 wltoys buggy ?
love the look of this,, ordered mine already on the pre order. Really like the HBX 2996a, another durable 1/12 with centre diff, this looks like a step up from that great value truck. Can't believe they put the diff in the wrong way round... I like the 1/12, lighter and smaller so more durable.. No interested in skate parks and 20foot jumps,, this will be used in the dirt for us and it looks perfect.

Seems a bit nose heavy, is there any sort of weight you could add to the back to balance it out ? If so what do you recommend?
