    In it, I discussion the site, the buying process, (full disclosure) the return process, and of course the single reason it got returned.

    I gotta say this is a phenomenal review … been doing a lot of research for the past few days and I’ve been stuck so thanks a lot. I’m a big guy but not super heavily; I was seriously considering the classic plush soft. However, now I’ve changed my mind because I’d like more side pressure relief so will be looking to purchase the Loom & Leaf mattress. If got any tips on that please let me know.

    It takes a few weeks to break in a new mattress. Saatva was generous to me and sent me a mattress topper as a gift for free after I bought my bed. That's an extra $450. I found Saatva to be quite incredible...and I love my bed...but I do recall it took a few weeks to break in. I would recommend them and buy from them again.

      I hope everyone that buys any mattress can say this, because when it is the wrong mattress, you know and you know hard. And I'll repeat what I share from my experience - just because it was like that for me, it won't be for everyone, and even though the 3+ weeks we spent on it were horrible for us, the experience was still great.

    Thank you so much for this review! It’s extremely difficult to find an ACTUAL honest review. I also purchased the saatva classic plush as I’m a side sleeper and I agree it’s definitely more of a medium on the firmness scale. It’s a beautiful bed and I find it comfortable when laying on my back but when I sleep on my sides I wake up with shoulder pain and numbness. I called for a return, just hoping it goes a lot smoother than your experience lol.

      +1 - us side sleepers need to stick together. The Saatva on my back, fabulous; on my side, no bueno. As long as you can get through on the phone and are clear about all the pieces you are sending back, I am sure you'll be fine. I blame COVID and my own assumptions as to what my problems were (and the amateur invoicing was a minor annoyance) - but they help up their end, and I give them A++ for that.

    Thank you for the review. I’m almost ready to purchase the Plush Saatva. I’m a back and side sleeper and am afraid that the plush will be too soft. After hearing your perspective, and at the suggestion from a great customer service rep, the plush seems to be what I’m looking for. The rep is a senior rep and gave me her direct extension to make everything run smooth. I’m really hoping this is a good fit for me, as the Sealy Lacey Hybrid in soft is not comfortable at all to me. It’s a weird feeling of sinking into a firm mattress. Hope you’re happy with you’re new mattress.

      I hope your purchase works out for you. As I say all the time - since mattress manufacturers don't use a standardized comfort scale, comparing brands is like comparing apples and hand grenades. They may be about the same size, but one hurts much worse. Although the Saatva plush was not right for us, I have spoken to many people who think it is the perfect kind of soft for them.

    Great review! I am considering the Saatva purchase as I had never heard of them, and well, here I am to learn more about personal experiences! If nothing else, you/we learned that you can't apply the scale of one company to another! But I feel you!
    This is off-topic, but in hair color, it seems to be common in almost all brands that a ".1" after the number is the color ash, but in the brand Schwarzkopf, it's ".5" that indicates ash! So, even in hair color you can't bank on a ".1" being an ashy tone and ".3" being a gold tone! Just thought I would share that!
    It's great to hear that you returned to your S&F bed that you love. My mom loves that brand, but geez, it's too soft for me! Now, I am wondering if I should just buy another Spring Air?! lol I have had 2 of them and I love their bed but can't find them anywhere. It was Goldilocks-perfect! Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!! :D

      It's totally true - this experience certainly taught me not to take the manufacturer's word for anything. If there isn't an independent organization making the judgments, then it's completely arbitrary.
      I'm not sure where you live, but if in the northeast US, Mattress Firm and Metro Mattress allegedly can get Spring Air (I've never been on one, but I learned that when I was shopping - it came highly recommended, but neither place had one set up to lay on).

    I just got mine (the classic) and I love it. I have an adjustable bed and it fits like a dream. I have sleep in the dirt, a truck, on the ground in the snow so I'm not one of these people that can feel a pea under my matress. They are firm and very supportive and I sleep on my side, back and stomach and I love this mattress. If you wake up with back or sholder pain, you need to see a doctor. No mattress is going to correct that

      @richardcataldi5464 9 місяців тому +1

      @shannondarling1001 I got the classic and I've had it about a year now. No complaints what so ever. The double spring setup handles getting conformed to the adjustable frame without losing its support. I'm a big man and sleep alone but I didn't opt for the next level up because I was afraid of the bed being too firm. Things I can say is the sides of the bed (edges) don't collapse under weight.
      My biggest complaint is that you can't flip it for even wear. Get a really good mattress cover and protect your investment and you'll get 20 plus years out of this one.
      One amazing mattress and that's coming from a man who moved people for a living

      That's good to hear. In hindsight, if it were just me and I wasn't sharing the mattress, I would have probably kept it longer to see "how" it would break in. That said, I am 240 lbs. and it showed not willingness to get any softer and I think the "firmness" was in the pillowtop.

      Saba Rahman - How long was your breaking-in period? I bought the Saatva Classic in luxury-firm, which is supposed to be the middle ground between plush-soft and firm. It's so firm that I wake up with a sore lower back. I, too, am petite and heard that if you're petite, mattresses will feel firmer than for the average person. I don't know how long I should wait for it to "break in." Not sure if I should exchange it for the plush-soft, as what if it's too soft? Soft is bad for a sore back, but since Chuck Jackson says it feels firmer than soft, perhaps that's what I need. Other than confusion over the right firmness, I really like the Saatva and how well it's made. The adjustable base is awesome, too, and really helps with the back pain if I raise the head and feet. But sometimes, I just want to sleep flat, so I can't rely on the base alone for comfort.

    Late to the party, but grateful I came across your review. I just purchased a Saatva Memory Foam after a lot of research and discussion with their customer service. However, it is MISERABLE to sleep on and despite them offering to ship a free memory foam topper during the "breaking in" period, I was seriously considering asking for an exchange to the Classic Plush. However, after listening to your experience, I'm going to return and look elsewhere. Customer service has been okay thus far, but these obviously run firm. The Memory Foam is marketed towards side sleepers and I have never been as uncomfortable as on this mattress. I also find it telling that they are very quick to immediately offer what are probably not inexpensive toppers - for free - in order to try and get folks to keep these. Moral being, I'll never buy without being able to try in person. Thank you again!

    Same experience with Saatva mattress. I’ve been watching reviews on the best mattress and theres a lot of reviews not from a standpoint of a real customer/ consumer. We tried purple hybrid, didn’t like it and returned it. We tried puffy lux, which I like but my husband doesnt like it. Next, we purchased saatva plush soft and it was the worst that we got. After delivery, I sat on the mattress it felt super firm. I spoke to a representative immediately if we got the plush soft (I was thinking the delivery person made a mistake giving us the wrong mattress) and was told we got the right one. It was hard as a Rock. 😢 after 10 days of sleeping on it, we decided to return it. Called the customer service and tried to return it. I was told to give it a few more weeks since we need to break it in first for us to feel the softness of the mattress. I was also told to call after a few more days and they will send us a complimentary mattress topper. They also offered me to try it for 180 days and the $99 fee for return will be waived. Its our 4th day trying it again and this time we jumped into it to let the coil loosen up, true enough it got softer. We are giving it few more weeks and we will decide if we will keep it or not but i’m doing more research on what to get should we decide to return it. I’ll see if I can try the stearns and foster in store. Thanks for your honest review.

It seems like every "good" BED IN A BOX has reviews from anywhere from 3 months to a year later, stating that the bed has a hole where they sleep in the bed. Ive seen it with almost all the main brands like Allswell, Brooklyn Bedding and DREAMCLOUD for a few examples.

    • @chuckjackson4487
      @chuckjackson4487  2 роки тому

      I was just traveling and had an opportunity to have some good talks with some long time friends who I know are side sleepers and one recommended a mattress they purchased a couple months ago - the Nolah Evolution. I was told after a few months, the body shaping is not as bad as his previous mattress, but it's only been a few months. That one is less than $2k and is a bed in a box with coils.
      The other friend raves about his Purple mattress (not the hybrid with coils - he has the standard non-coil, solid build version). He says the body shaping is "no worse than any other mattress" but that it doesn't matter because it doesn't affect his ability to sleep anywhere on it at any time. He is a year into owning it (under $2k and bed in box also I believe).
      In comparison to the mattress we ended up settling on ($4k Stearns & Foster Ultra Plush Cassatt), they are cheaper, but those guys like them a lot. My wife and I love ours now and are glad we swapped the Saatva for the S&F. It was more than double the cost, but over a year in, there is minimal body shaping and it's all superficial in the pillowtop, it's not foundational in the coils or lower materials.

We have been to furniture stores and tried some mattresses and we have been more comfortable on firm or medium firm mattresses. However they do not offer a return and refund to us. I'd really like to stick with Saatva and perhaps exchange mine for a plush-soft, but I'm nervous it might be too soft for my bad back, even though you said it's firmer than soft. I can say this: the plush-soft may be their software mattress, but it's an entirely different experience than the comparable Stearns & Foster. If I had no info on either mattress, and I laid on them at a store, my instinct would tell me the S&F was "soft" and the Saatva was "medium" from feel alone.
      That said, it's a risky proposition to buy something labeled way softer than you desire in the hope it isn't - that would scare me. And, I don't know how it holds up over time. Maybe it becomes super "plush soft" after, say 6 months to a year, and then you are stuck with something too soft.
      I wish you luck my friend.

    The saatva is a Euro top which is when the pillow top is built into the mattress. The Stearns and Foster is a pillow top which is when the pillow top is stitched onto the top of the mattress. Also the cassat has micro coils built into the pillow top for a grand total of four sets of springs in the mattress. Stearns and Foster has a double spring foundation, a foundation of support coils and then again like I said the micro coils built into the pillow top.

Something I didn't say in any of my videos, but that has been stirring in the back of my head is: I'm not confident S&F wants to sell mattresses based on anything other than name because it's near impossible to find the information you just said - and their own website doesn't share this info (unless it's hidden on some weird page a normie couldn't find).

      @@chuckjackson4487 yes it is apparent that Stearns and Foster does not want to make a big deal out of a public display on the interwebs or on their site of how their mattresses are built. I've learned all I have learned through their sales reps which appears to be the way they want the information doled out. They are double-tempered titanium alloy springs, likely a country mile better than any other in the industry. The cassat is in my opinion the best mattress in the mass production market. The cassat luxury plush Euro top is the mattress to have and it sells for around 2700 usd. You can likely get a sale price on a holiday like memorial Day coming up. I currently have the holmsbu which is by far the best mattress for the price in my opinion, at $860 USD it's the one I sleep on and with the purple pillows my back pain is no longer the first and last thing I think about in my day. I am considering purchasing the cassat luxury plush Euro top in a memorial Day sale...

      @@cracked229 I have three arthritic discs in my lower back. I've tested a lot of beds, one thing is clear and that is that I need a firm and supportive mattress. The Holmsbu has three layers of springs that make it responsive top to bottom and no memory foam. It's a great bed build-wise. It's a great bed for me and my lower back. It's just the right amount of firm, plush, and responsive coils. It is not a bad bad at all and with a heavy duty 3 spring construction and 18 inch height I bet this thing will last a good long while. At only 850 bucks it competes with the Stearns and Foster firm croissant which is a four spring mattress. Or in my opinion can be said better than the Rockwell line from Stearns and foster. You know, the stainless steel frying pan from Ikea is a heavy duty top of the line beast at a discount price as well. Some of their things are worth their salt, this is the first mattress I laid on that my back didn't hurt right away, throughout the night or when I woke up. It's no longer the first and last thing I think and feel in my day. But the original video poster was seeking a supportive yet plush mattress and I got to believe out of all the mattresses I've tested the Stearns and Foster cassat luxury plush 14, 15 and 16 inch are the answer he's looking for. The 16 is the most plush but for me I could probably handle the 14 because it has the least amount of foam. I am anti-foam, I feel there needs to be the bare minimum and the spring system should be the primary support system in a bed. I used to sleep on anything and everything but after testing beds and coming to the conclusions I have about my arthritic lower back and understanding spine alignment I know that an overly plush mattress is not healthy for anybody. The mattress that is firm yet supportive enough to maintain even alignment of the spine is the most desirable to give your spine and yourself the best nights sleep.

    Thank you so much for your honest review. I have kind of had it with the "famous reviewers" for mattresses. Your review was honest and from a "regular guy" point of view and I appreciate that. Didn't decide to take the Purple for a test drive? I am torn between the Saatva Classic, Loom and Leaf (by Saatva), and the Purple 3 Hybrid. I suffer from excruciating back pain, and I have narrowed it down to my Sleep Number bed. Personal opinion: Sleep Number beds are glorified and overpriced air mattresses. Not worth the money what so ever.

      Thank you. We decided against trying the Purple because, when all was said and done with Saatva, the wife wanted her bed back and Stearns & Foster still had a model that was basically the same as our last one. If I find a nearby friend who ends up with a Purple, I plane to hijack their mattress for a couple nights to test it. And...we both agree with your opinion on Sleep Number. I've never owned, but I have slept on them no less than 50 times in certain hotel chains. Not a fan - but they do have the market on customizable firmness. That said, there was a brand called "Personalized" about 10 years ago (at Mattress Firm) that was awesome for being able to customize firmness anywhere on the spectrum through different measuring apparatus you use at the store to find out where the firmness is needed (meant you could have a firm middle and soft top, medium bottom if best for you). I can't find anything about them anymore. But I do heat the Ecosa memory foam, self-customizable mattress is helpful for some with back pain. I had a chat with one guy who said he was able to "set" the firmness perfect for his back pain.

    I am so conflicted and confused as to what mattress to buy. Personally I think all those "review sites" are absolute BS. It looks to me like all these mattresses are either made and sold by the same company using different names to compete with themselves, or made by the same company and then customized/branded for other companies. I am leaning towards the Saatva Loom & Leaf but the price is just too high for a mattress that doesn't have any side support.
    Did you end up getting a different mattress entirely?

    • @chuckjackson4487
      @chuckjackson4487  3 роки тому +3

      I agree with the mattress review sites being BS. That's why we bought the Saatva based on the return policy ($99 for restocking, rest is refunded). It was worth it to us to try at that price. Felt we couldn't trust the internet because they all just wanted us to buy so they could earn - really though, how can all mattresses be the best mattress ever on every site? Rhetorical question...
      That said, we did end up with an entirely different mattress. We ended up buying the newest version of the old mattress we liked. A Stearns & Foster Cassatt Ultra Plush Pillowtop. Cos twice as much than the Saatva we purchased, but was worth it in the end.
      One thing I am learning about side support is that there are plenty of mattresses that don't have a "designated side support product/mechanism" but still provide plenty just based on the construction and materials used throughout. I would strongly recommend going to a mattress store and just testing some for side support and then making note of the brands/models that are supportive, then look up the construction of each online, you may be surprised as what feels most supportive is not necessarily the one marketed for edge sleepers. Food for thought - and good luck!

      Anyway, I'm not a firm fan, so I can't answer first hand; however, I have a large friend who has always slept on firm mattresses and he says - luxury or not, just don't get a pillow top because the pillow top will add a softness that takes away from the "hardness." Also, he says if you truly want to sleep on something hard, then buy the cheapest junk you can find because, "luxury is for the weak." He argues that the more costly the mattress the more likely the manufacturer will try to create a "soft but firm" mattress and the cheap ones are "just hard."

    Sadly, there is no objective or standardized measure of mattress softness per se. Softness is completely subjective and will depend on individual body types and sleep positions. Also FWIW what you're calling the "pillow top" on the saatva isn't actually the pillowtop nor do they claim it to be, it's part of the support structure and is mostly composed of the pocketed coils. The stearns however is a completely separate structure. Stearns differentiates their product by offering various thickness of that pillowtop layer. The downside to that is that over the long term that pillowtop is going to compress, break down and degrade. And so while the underlying structure of the mattress will be sound the bed will become uncomfortable because the plush pillowtop will fail. That has always been the problem with traditional spring mattresses dressed up with pillowtops.

BUT to get it fixed I have to pay shipping (99 dollars each way) and wait 2 months. To totally replace it with a new one, I can pay 40 percent of the original price plus shipping (around 900 dollars). Why would I choose either of these options? Oh they also gave me another option, buy a different mattress with a tiny reduction in cost. Which would be even MORE than the replacement. NO THANKS. Every showroom sales person has commented that there is no industry standard on labeling a mattress Plush, Medium, Luxury Firm, Firm, Ultra, etc. The sales people encouraged us to try the mattresses because of on company's Medium is another company's Plush/ Firm. They said do not trust company's ratings; you must experience it and then you determine the level of comfort: Plush, Med, Firm, etc. // 2. Each of the online reviewers of the Saatva line mentioned how the Medium runs on the Firmer side, and the Plush comes in at about a Medium feel. // I understand you and your wife want to sleep "in" and not "on" the mattress, hence the Ultra Plush S & F mattress. However, I wonder if you or your wife watched the Saavta reviews; the Saatva even looks firm.

    • @chuckjackson4487
      @chuckjackson4487  2 роки тому

      Regarding #1 - this is true, but you can't test the large majority of mattresses on the market. For instance, I have yet to find a Saatva to test anywhere and the nearest alleged ultra plush S&F Cassatt for test was multiple states away at the time of purchase. So, if testing it in store first is a requirement, then there are many brands and models that are just not to be considered for that consumer.
      Regarding #2, my experience in reading and watching online reviews for the Saatva did not provide many "plush = medium" thoughts. Many referred to it as "the softest mattress I've ever laid on." This is just more data to show that we see and read what our search browsers tell us and that we likely were directed to different sites. In one of my previous videos, I even pulled up a few sites that we read where they talk about how soft it is. For reference, when I search "Saatva mattress softness review", which is a longer tail search, it pulls ~108k results. I certainly wouldn't say I read them all or claim that they all say it is more medium than soft.
      I will admit it looks firm with the stitched eurotop, but the reviews we saw insisted that it was soft. I would go as far as to say those reviewers' soft was my bouncy - is you consider a trampoline soft, then the Saatva Classic would be the mattress for you.

    Saatva is horrible. I have a split king with a plush soft and luxury firm. We’ve owned for approximately 3 years, I’ve tried both sides and both are rock hard. My spouse and I are currently considering a Tempur-Pedic.

      This confirms my suspicion that their "plush soft" is not likely much different (or different at all) than their other firmness levels. My gut (completely anecdotal) tells me that it's all marketing mumbo jumbo because their hundreds of outsourced factories just make one mattress with different labels. (Again, completely unfounded, just my conspiracy theory).

      I think its just you. Why do people want super soft beds? TempurPedic will make your spine hurt over time. And its hot.

      @@KhoiBoa I bought both the Tempur-LuxeAdapt Soft and Firm and received over 2 weeks ago. I've slept better for the past couple of weeks than I have in over 20 years. I use the soft mattress and it doesn't sleep hot, plus I have the Tempur-Adapt Promid pillow which is cool as well. I was afraid that memory foam would be hot but technology has changed and it doesn't feel hot and I wake in the same position that I'm in when I initially fall asleep. I wish I had made the switch sooner from Saatva (better yet, I hate that I purchased a Saatva). To answer your question 'why do people want super soft beds?' It's their personal preference.

      @@MM-bs6jv i had the lux soft and the 1st week was awesome, then it started to absolutely KILL my lower back. so bad I could almost not stand up so I had to return it.
      i gotthe pro adapt med after and it has hurt my back for the entire 3 months I have had it so I am returning it mon. searching for a replacement. debating the lux firm (which actually is pretty soft with letting you sink a couple inchech but not near as deep as the lux soft or proadapt med.)
      looking at the wink and saatva currently as well.

      @@MM-bs6jv Keep posting updates. We had an orthopedic grade tempur-pedic that got too soft over time. Now looking for something else.

    Just sent back a Saatva Luxury Firm. Nothing firm about that mattress. Like sleeping on a marshmallow. Killed my back. Will say they gave me no problem with getting my money back minus the $99.00 and coming to pick it up.

      Makes me wonder if they are sending firms to people buying soft, and softs to people buying firm...

    Review from a company worker at the mattress factory, so how about a review from someone that doesn't work for the company....heres mine...No one wants to hear a dame review, from a sales person for the company, the way the delivery men carry it light as a feather that u don't need 2 people to life it, and that tells me if your over 100 pounds cause it's so light, it will break down fast, so fast talking man thumbs down😅 👎
