This is one of the most amazing things in rock history: Dave, Josh, Mark, Nick and Van Lee. So many stories together on stage. "Foo Queens of the Kyuss Stone Nirvana Failure Age in the Mondo Generator Trees".
@@willy_b_coyote Honestly, every lineup of Queens Of The Stone Age is my favorite band of all time... gotta add Them Crooked Vultures, too. What that collective of musicians has done... 🤦♂️SMH It doesn't get better!
I remember reading an interview many years ago where Grohl described Oliveri as the best bass player he'd worked with, just how solid and intuitive he was to play with as a drummer. And I entirely believe him too.
I was there stage right.. was wokin for RHCP at the time. They opened for us. Hands down the the greatest band next ta Zepplin. Speaking of that check out Them Crooked Vultures. John Paul Jones on bass... toured with them as well...
The essence... All the stars in one line... (This incarnation of Dave Grohl (I like him in the back , not the front) , the raw magic between Nick and Josh... The sauce Troy pours over it and Mark... Damn Mark... I still cry for you)
I love how you can see the drummer and bassist look at each other as if to say "I'm gonna finish my part before you" "oh yeah? Let's race then! I'm no slouch either dave!" "OK, TRY TO KEEP UP!" at about 12:10 and the tempo goes stratospheric up until about 12:35. Watched this video must be a hundred times and never noticed that before.
if you listen to the original track again dave misses part of the fill, so I think that look might be mainly an acknowledgement of this between the two of them, but your interpretation is also very interesting!
We don’t think about how much of a head trip this must’ve been for the other guys. The guy behind us last time he played in a band it was NIRVANA. Like Jesus Christ. So epic
This line up were as good as rock music gets. Seeing this performance with Nick Oliveri, Dave Grohl, and Mark Lanegan was one of my truly special Glastonbury moments. QOTSA were never the same band once they parted company with Nick.
Dave's best years behind a drumkit.... i'm so still enjoying this.......and QOTSA one of the best bands ever....going to see them next summer at Rock Werchter festival Belgium.....
Stumbled across this set at the time and watched from from the back, when Dave Grohl started ripping triplets round his toms I just lolled, utterly awesome.
So many dorks on youtube these days playing the intro to this song on drums but itll never be better than dave playing it while laughing with nick at the same time
I got to admit Dave rocks! As a self-made drummer, I still admire him! He was - and still is- one of my best examples to follow or to focus on (together with Vinnie Paul. May he RIP)
Just watched a 2024 concert by QUOTSA. It's not the same. The music is good but the vibe isn't the same. A band's music isn't all there is to them. There is something indefinable about a performance that transcends the music that just can't be put into words (at least by me). there is something lacking in the newer concerts. I don't know what it is. It feels almost like I'm watching a cover band. Maybe someone here can help me out?
Songs for the Deaf was one of the only albums in my lifetime that lived up to the hype. I am old enough to remember the live shows they were playing with Grohl leaking online through Kazaa or some shit and my mind being blown. Actually buying the album and listening it to the first time was a revelation. Still think Rated R is slightly better though😜
Seriously though, they must have had to throw that whole drum kit straight in the trash after this set - not just the heads, but the shells and the rings and everything - Dave was playing like his fucking life depended on it here. He BRUTALISED this kit, this is visually uncomfortable to watch if you're a drum tech.
RIP to the greatest: Mark Lanegan. also, RIP to Dave’s drum kit.
I like that...RIP to Dave's kit...well said brother
Drum kit! Dave's! Lol! Flanagan R.I.P.
That determenation.....man.....
😅
Luv dat
This is one of the most amazing things in rock history: Dave, Josh, Mark, Nick and Van Lee. So many stories together on stage. "Foo Queens of the Kyuss Stone Nirvana Failure Age in the Mondo Generator Trees".
Gotta fit Dwarves in there too
Queens was basically a supergroup back then.
Soooooo funny & great, at the same time!
@@willy_b_coyote Honestly, every lineup of Queens Of The Stone Age is my favorite band of all time... gotta add Them Crooked Vultures, too.
What that collective of musicians has done... 🤦♂️SMH It doesn't get better!
The super group that didn’t know they where a super group
The chemistry between Dave Grohl and Nick Oliveri is great, they have so much fun together!!
I remember reading an interview many years ago where Grohl described Oliveri as the best bass player he'd worked with, just how solid and intuitive he was to play with as a drummer. And I entirely believe him too.
Nothing it’s better than having Dave behind the drum kit
He should have just stayed with them instead of playing the insipid nonsense with ff
@@brianboyle2681 🤣
Idk why this isn’t highlighted and have 999,999 thumbs up
When Nick looks back and smiles
20 years in the future and this IS STILL BETTER than 100% of pop music today
MY SAME THOIGHT thank you
….ain’t that the truth
Amen
Yep, the three piece four piece bands are extinct it seems, you have too be a brain surgeon to find good music nowadays FFS
@@shawnwhite2120 bro what
I still can’t believe this band actually existed in this form.
Mental isn't it. QOTSA circa 2002 was basically a supergroup without meaning to be 😂
Josh 29, Dave 34. Already giants. Josh already a professional touring musicians for 15 years at this stage. Mind. Blown.
This still kicks ass in 2025.... Amazing talent and ability to sound amazing live, wherever they perform. 🔥
Hearing earlier songs like Regular John with Dave's drumming... insane. He really beats the hell out of that kit!
Mark Lanegan was a gift. Thanks for all the great tunes!
Agreed.

A few days before this they did a warm up gig at the small room at the Astoria in London and me and a friend managed to get tickets. It was unreal!
Imagine the tranquility of having Dave Grohl behind the drums... You must play without have to worry with nothing more.
The "Songs for the Deaf"era lineup was the best! Saw them at the 2003 Lollapalooza in Indy, and they destroyed!
The essence... All the stars in one line... (This incarnation of Dave Grohl (I like him in the back , not the front) , the raw magic between Nick and Josh... The sauce Troy pours over it and Mark... Damn Mark... I still cry for you)

I actually think Dave gives him that look because Nick does a cheeky bass slide to time with the end if each of drum fills
if you listen to the original track again dave misses part of the fill, so I think that look might be mainly an acknowledgement of this between the two of them, but your interpretation is also very interesting!
Fucking incredible. I''d only have been 7 here, would have had no idea this greatness was going on...
i was 15 and saw them 3 months after this, unfortunately sans Grohl
@@0satanisboring0 September??? Joey was only in the band for a week or two lol amazing
@@startervisions October 4th, actually, at the Palladium. Wish I still had the shirt.
I'd have been 5, should've been there anyway haha.
me too!
RIP Mark
here im to watch this masterpiece for lenegan!
this version of "avon"... unmatched...
Dave Grohl was charged with attempted murder of the drum kit after that show because of that song
Favorite lineup of Queens. So much power and driving force with Dave & Nick back there.
This lineup is legendary. Mark was an incredible singer. Saw Queens for first time last weekend and they were absolutely awesome.
Watching Dave play the drums always reminds me of how talented he is. He can basically play anything
Dude are absolutely pummeling this. Also RIP Mark Lanegan. We miss you so...
The best lineup of this band.
still the best QOTSA lineup... people criticise dave but he smacks the hell out of them and brings a sense of fun.
Listening to Songs For The Deaf while playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3... Those were GOOD days.
This is the best lineup they had such a great set as well
One of the greatest rock lineup ever!
Lanegan is simply killing it
When he’s not in the backstage shooting himself the dose
We don’t think about how much of a head trip this must’ve been for the other guys. The guy behind us last time he played in a band it was NIRVANA. Like Jesus Christ. So epic
Love this show and I love how Grohl beats those drums like they owe him money. This is my favorite lineup of QOTSA.
This line up were as good as rock music gets. Seeing this performance with Nick Oliveri, Dave Grohl, and Mark Lanegan was one of my truly special Glastonbury moments. QOTSA were never the same band once they parted company with Nick.
Agreed. Nick added a certain unpredictability to their sound. Josh is great, but Nick was like his evil twin. They complemented each other.
You are one lucky guy for having been there for this!
For sure, but for what it's worth they still totally fuckin kick ass
Yeah this line up was awesome. I still like them now but they were so good back then, quite unpredictable yet still tight and loud as fuck
Was at this show and loved it but only appreciated later how lucky I was to see awesomeness of this line up
Dave's best years behind a drumkit.... i'm so still enjoying this.......and QOTSA one of the best bands ever....going to see them next summer at Rock Werchter festival Belgium.....
It’s good to see the drummer of Scream is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
(This is a joke btw)
William he was also the drummer in nirvana and I’m pretty sure he has another band he is the singer for. Look it up
@@TomH-jt7bxno shit dummy
look at that camera man next to Dave during Song for the Dead with a big smile on his face.
This was ridiculously good 10/10
Miss this version of this band.... heavier and Dave's drumming is top notch
Absolute power house era of qotsa, this line up with never ever be bettered
Their best line up.

Damn, you're a lucky guy!
This band is absolutely amazing
Amazing memories I was there 🤟
So many dorks on youtube these days playing the intro to this song on drums but itll never be better than dave playing it while laughing with nick at the same time
I remember the old days… Blah blah blah
Fond memories of being at this as a wee lad in my teens. Youth defining
Would sell an organ to have seen this Queens lineup. Nick and Grohl were brilliant along with Lanegans sultry tones
Absolutely blistering set!
The grove that they are in from the get go is freaking gorgeous.
Viva la QOTSA
Addicted to Homme. ⚡❤⚡❤
I could not agree more. This was the first lineup I ever saw and am still blown away today. Best band on Earth still!!
Peak QOTSA. Love it!
dave grohl!! the perfect band 😍
This was thegig that made me aware of QOTSA. They absolutely blew my m8nd. And seeing Dave on deums again got me so intrigued.

Damn such a load of sheer musical joy and energy!
Great show! Especially love Jeremy Renner on lead vocals and guitar.
IS THIS ANYONE ELSES FAVORITE DAVE!!!!????

best qotsa lineup period.
This is incredibly good
The most legendary group all together at this very time just sound so good all together.
Omg such a good set❤️🔥❤️ I need a time machine lol
Me too damnit 💯❤💯
Best qotsa lineup ever
Set list on Grohl's cymbal stand has songs not included here ... wonder if the whole concert is available anywhere
In BBC’s vaults
Someone has to remaster the complete show and upload it here 🤘🏻🙏🏻
Wow! Just found this video. Thank you! Perfect beautiful cut. Legendary in my opinion.
These comments about Dave's drums are great too. 😀

Well, the QOTSA you see here is a ragtag group of compadres. New QOTSA is just Josh Homme's huge ego and his yes-men lackeys.
@@LOOMING_WRAITH_OF_BAD_OMEN Yeh, that'll probably be it. What a shame, they were such a great band around this time.

Weird thing - my only visit to Glastonbury was 2002 - and I don't remember seeing this - and I love this band 🤔🤔🤔
Best fucking live band ever.
This is the lineup, with Nick, Dave and Lanegan

This iteration is 10/10!
If only this had the quality of sound engineering that the Big Day Out performances had. Would've been legendary.
Lastof the super bands. Probably my favorite! Damn.....
Down is a awesome supergroup and still going strong
The truth is Dave got kicked out of queens because they couldn't afford a drum kit per gig
So they hired an even harder and better drummer afterwards? Yes i said it, Joey was a better drummer and faster live haha
being faster isnt a compliment, joey rush almost every song
Bro, the nirvanas drummer is player there, this is a good shit
Amazing line up
Grohl beats that kit like it owes him cash
i will never get over how fine dave is, especially during this tour.
still love it!!
