For those with a 2.0d (not sure about other engines) you can actually get the diff from out of the engine bay. You need to remove engine bracket (3 bolts) remove dipstick tube as it goes through bracket, then remove engine mount bushing. Theres enough room up passed the coolant tubes (flange end up first). Bit of a fight with tubes but easier than levering engine if you are on your own 🙂

Awesome video, you helped guide me alot today. I had one at my shop I had too do, I ended up supporting the engine and lowering 90% of the sub frame and removed the bottom base for the driver side motor mount but it wasn't horrible. I'm glad I found your video on atleast where too start thanks again man

Nice job. When you need to break the axle bolt loose, put a screwdriver into the vent slots on the brake disc so it will wedge against the bottom side of the caliper, if you can't go through the caliper.
His gun isn't very good either

Been looking for a couple of days how to remove the front diff on an e53 x5 2006.
Thank you for the video I appreciated the fact you were working out the procedure as you went through the process lift just a .
I now know how to remove the diff on my car a tip from other video I looked at and forums is to drop the engine cradle/front sub mount 46mm so you do not have to raise the engine via removing the engine mounts, but i think doing what you did with engine mounts and dropping front sub frame 46mm should make the job easier.
I am working on my drive with no hoist just axle stands and trolley Jack you just made my task more clear.

I have an F25 X3 with a bad input pinion bearing. Taking the diff out tomorrow, what’s the likelihood I can just rebuild the diff with new bearings and seals? Do these usually drop the bearings into the casing when they fail?
The best trick in this video is removing the bolts holding the engine mount on the right side so you can have left to right play
The easiest way is to you the engine support jack that supports the engine from the top and remove the subframe.
Was that some kind of vent tube on top of the transfer case? Does it just pop off and on?

I believe the part number for your vehicle is going to be 31-50-7-603-002 , i am not sure if it is the same or not . but i am sure if you call your dealer they can confirm that . Thanks
Got the same car and exactly the same problem. The dealer gave me a quote of $4300!
What what’s the simtomps of this differential, why did you replace it
Noise that is very similar to a wheel bearing noise, more like a tire noise , in some cases feels like a vibration noise. if you are not sure , het it inspected by a professional tech.

Started to shout at the screen every time the diff iwas called a TC :)
But other than that a lot of relevant info as I fear my front diff is gone on my F25 X3 and this look as near as identical to mine.

I found better solution for same BMW model 2012 Xdrive.
Just remove complete engine suport on left side and everything will go much easier. You don't have to do anything with sub frame.
The car needs a new swaybar link.
Why can’t you just replace the bearing? Why replace the whole diff? I’m having an odd noise here as well. How long can I ride around with this problem?
Noise is going to keep getting worse and louder everydaye till you get to the point where yo can't deal with it anymore because of the loud whining noise . We replaced it because it was cheap enough used , rather than spend time to rebuild and put labor time into it . Thank you

Boss, i have x1 2010 model, the front diff is gone, and im looking to buy another one, my diff details 2.79 7583773 . And it’s very hard to find, My question can i replace with other diff number? Or should be the same. Please advise thanks 🙏
You need to check with the dealer , in some situations there are more than one part numbers and they are interchange. You will need to validate with the dealer for fitment . Hope this helps
