Hi Bob! I was just casually watching (and majorly enjoying) your video then I was surprised to see you tag me! Thanks for the tag :)) This will be a fun challenge... hehehe
Thank you so much, Carly! Your thoughtful selections made the challenge an incredible experience. I'm very excited to dive into horror and see how your picks resonate with me. Your enthusiasm and insight made this truly memorable. Thanks again for making it such a joy! I'm sure I'll see you again in the Mine soon enough! 😊
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! I'm glad you enjoyed _Intensity._ I'm excited to give Koontz a try! I'm _very_ happy that the video inspired you to visit a local used bookstore. There is without a doubt something special about the experience of visiting a good used bookstore. I hope you discover some amazing treasures on your visit!
Cool to see how this challenge went for you, I still have it on my docket to participate in. I’ve read Intensity and from what I recall, yes it does live up to what the title promises.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! I'm glad to hear _Intensity_ lives up to its name-I'm looking forward to diving into it. I hope you get a chance to participate in the challenge soon! It's such a fun way to discover new reads.
Awesome video!!! Your presentation and style rock! It is soo interesting to see everyone's picks! I have acquired a lot of Koontz but haven't read any yet and I too have been navigating near and around the Dresden Files but never committed.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. This is actually the first Koontz book I've ever picked up, so I'm excited to dive in and see how it goes. Obviously, I totally get the hesitation around committing to the Dresden Files-it seems like such a daunting undertaking! It's for that same reason I've not started the Malazan Book of the Fallen, either! I have a harder time getting into fantasy than I do sci-fi, so for me to commit to a fantasy series it has to be _Good_ with a capital "G"! 😂 Thanks for watching and for the thoughtful comment. Cheers!
Great vid and excellent presentation of this challenge! I really enjoyed your take and bookstore experience. I love the idea of the possibility of being exposed to something new that just might fit. My whole persona of my reading experience is finding something away from the groupie genre and popular title lists. This is an excellent challenge and I agree with you that it's more than just about reading and collecting more books.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed my take on the challenge. I totally agree-the thrill of discovering something unique, something outside the mainstream, is a huge part of what makes this hobby special. Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective-it means a lot!
@BobCanRead Well, it's rewarding to visit your channel and easy to say such things. I enjoy your content.... especially your presentation. So pleasant, informative and comfortably presented. The astetics are commendable.
Great video my friend! Those books sound fantastic, and yes, cool cover art! Intensity is intense. Oh heck yea, definitely read Dresden, so good, especially after book 4! Enjoy those treasures Bob!
Thanks so much, Kevin! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You know, you were spot on with recommending this challenge-it was such a great experience that really took me outside my comfort zone in an admittedly fun way! And yes, I can't wait to dive into Dresden, as I've been meaning to for what feels like ages! I appreciate your enthusiasm and support, my friend!
As someone who has now stumbled on the Wukong stories through the recent game and then research on UA-cam, it's incredibly rich mythological storytelling. It might be a bit challenging for westerners as some core concepts are more commonplace in its respective culture. Great haul overall. A lot of good recommendations!
Thanks so much for your comment, Jubal! It's crazy how much press the Wukong stories have been getting lately. I'm sure it can be challenging for those of us less familiar with its cultural roots, but that's part of what makes exploring it so intriguing. I'm glad you enjoyed the haul and the recommendations! Cheers, brother!
I like your content, my friend; you're going to enjoy the Waley translation of Journey to the West, even native Chinese speakers praise his ability to bring across the irreverent nature of Sun Wukong, so that's a very good acquisition! I make music here on UA-cam but I've been considering trying my hand at BookTube lol so now you've got a new subscriber 😁
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm happy to hear that the Waley translation of _Journey to the West_ is so highly regarded-I'm pretty excited to dive into Monkey's antics! It's also great to hear that you make music here on UA-cam! I will have to give it a listen. If you decide to start making bookish content, I think your unique perspective would be a fantastic addition. Best of luck, and welcome to the community! 😊
I'm in my used bookstore enough that I shouted them out in my first video and one of the employees keeps giving me constructive feedback on the videos I'm posting. I'm so curious about what they'd suggest for me if I just gave them money and asked them to surprise me. I really liked this video - I hope you like Wrede! I read Butcher back in the day but I admit that I know I wouldn't enjoy him now. (This is not a comment about if you should like him! I just don't really enjoy that style of novel anymore.) Please let us know how you feel about the cozy horror! I wonder if I could tolerate that.
Joanna, that's such a great connection to have with your local bookstore! I bet their picks for you would be fascinating and I'd love to see you make a video on it! Thank you for watching and for the kind words! I'm really looking forward to exploring Wrede and seeing where it takes me. I completely understand your thoughts on Butcher-reading tastes definitely change over time, and that's all part of the journey. And yes, I'll definitely share my thoughts on the cozy horror! It'll be interesting to see if it hits that sweet spot between eerie and comforting (a sweet spot I imagine would be difficult to find). Thanks again for the lovely comment!
@@BobCanRead I wonder if you’d enjoy Mexican Gothic in terms of horror. It reminds me a lot of Hill House but the horror in Mexican Gothic is more physical than it is in Haunting of Hill House.
@@JoannaLovesHistoryBooks I just read up on it, and it sounds very interesting! I have added it to my wish list! Thank you for the thoughtful recommendation!
Let me know what you think of Dean Kootnz, I haven't read alot of his stuff including the book you have but the stuff i have i havent been the biggest fan of.
I've definitely seen mixed reviews of his work. It's my understanding that his output is lacking in consistency, but that when he's good, he's _real good!_ I will be sure to keep you updated when I get to the one in this video. Cheers, my friend!

Thanks for watching, pal! I can't wait to see what your bookstore cooks up for you!
You are so welcome! It was way too much fun exploring your tastes and interests in a new genre! I hope you enjoy these books as you dip into horror!

I really enjoyed Intensity!
This video sparked my interest in visiting a local used book store.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Curious, what’s the website where you can paste a snippet of your own writing and it tells you what author you write like?
Absolutely! It can be found here: iwl.me
