I know that this comment is not related to this video, but I really wanted to recommend the Shahnameh book to you. The subject of the Shahnameh is the myths and history of Iran from the beginning to the Arab invasion of Iran in the 7th century AD. But the Shahnameh is not a completely historical book and contains three mythological, heroic and historical parts. And because books with fantasy genre are rarely found in Iranian literature. I decided to recommend Shahnameh to you to know your professional opinion about this book. Please share your opinion about Shahnameh. It means a lot to me.
Many thanks for the TBTBTW shout out. The Daughters' War is a magnificent book. I met James Logan at Worldcon and have heard good things about The Silverblood Promise, and I loved The Magicians, so I should read more Grossman.
Can't wait for The Book That Held Her Heart! I wish I could have made it to Worldcon, it would have been cool to meet! Hopefully one of these years. I think you will definitely enjoy The Bright Sword, it was well worth the read

Those are some great pics to highlight. I was surprised by The Silverblood Promise too. And Mark Lawrence's Library trilogy is just an absolute banger. I'm waiting on my library to have a free copy of Beagle! Not sure if I'll read the other two as yet.
Thanks for the reminder/encouragement to keep going on The Book That Wouldn't Burn. I kinda drifted away about halfway through and haven't gone back in a couple months. I liked a lot of the ideas but it does get really meandering in the middle and now I'm desperately trying to get caught up on Stormlight Archives before Book 5 comes out. The Bright Sword audiobook is fantastic! It's narrated by Nicholas Guy Smith as well as Lev Grossman himself. Mark Lawrence's Library Trilogy has great audiobooks as well! Not sure about the others
I don’t know much about Arthurian legend but I loved The Bright Sword. I loved the character work and I loved the balance of the Otherworld and this world and the balance of their different religions. Not to scare anyone off, it doesn’t delve into religions, it just adds to the world building like adding historical elements.
I have the first two books of the Library series on my bookshelf currently, was great to hear that you rated it, I haven't explored them yet though... intrigued by the arthurian one, but I disliked The Magician (plz don't come for me! Managed to get through Silverblood promise recently, it's ok. Doesn't excel at anything though: pacing is good, characters aren't particularly memorable, the plot is coherent. Would I recommend it? If you are new to fantasy or exceedingly bored, then yes, otherwise no. I've not read Daughter's Way yet, but if the prose is anything close to Buehlman's previous work; Blacktongue thief, then it's worth a read for that alone.
The Daughter’s War was a DNF book for me. I didn’t really get invested in the characters so I got about halfway and decided to shelf it for now. However I know a lot of people who loved this book.

But it was just endless side quests & very little progression of the main story. Very little magic progression. Rare main villain involvement. Idk whether to trust you on the First Law trilogy anymore..
Sorry to hear Name of the Wind didn't quite live up to expectations. I've mentioned in a few videos how it isn't a 'high action series', and have talked about how it's more of a slower paced mystery with lots of slice-of-life moments and time spent at the University. It's more for those readers that enjoy beautiful language, a story about stories and discovering the truth of stories, and for picking up on small clues and easter eggs that the author hides through out. It's on a lot of people's top fantasy lists for a reason, but I understand how it could be disappointing if you were looking for more epic battles and action. Joe Abercrombie's books have a lot more action, as does The Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne. The Black Prism by Brent Weeks has a lot of action too, and a super interesting magic system revolving around light and color. Some really badass moments in those books. Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series or his Stormlight Archive series also have tons of action and magic, with really cinematic epic moments. Hope you find something else you enjoy better!
