- A short while back I had my car being pulled back as if I'm forcing it to accelerate to go somewhere, First gear and second is fine, but when it comes to third and on an up hill the car will not accelerate further and start losing its power. Went on checking through EGR Sensor, Exhaust Pipe, Brake Calipers.

Just got my car fixed today. The problem is the catalytic converter are blocked and that is the reason for the lost in acceleration. My mechanic told that the air from the engine cannot get out properly through the ekzos pipe. I got it changed for a cheaper catalytic converter instead of the original toyota parts. Before, my car can only gain acceleration around 60-90 km/h and to get even 60km/h i had to rev the pedal to the max. Wish this can help somehow for the people who had the same problem☺️

if it was rebuilt, double check to make sure the distributor wires to spark plugs are in the correct firing order, wrong spark sequences will cause a huge loss of power and backfire
Good point normally in japanese cars the wiring is such u cant go wrong unless really pulling it

I had a 94 oldsmobile and I couldn't get over 65 without my car shaking losing power and acting like its missing.. never found out the issue any guesses? I could floor it and once over 65 it would bog down all the way to 5 miles per hour while still being floored and had the same shacking missing issue, new plugs wires and coil packs and ignition module which is connected to coil packs

I just had the same problem, I found out that the front brakes were finished. I got them changed and the car drives fine. like 30 minutes ago, thanks for the video you saved me.

I am having a similar problem. When i am driving on a motorway doing 60-70 and trying to overtake it takes very long to overtake. Also from full stop if i had to drive up hill it takes a lot of rev to puck up and than switch to second gear a lot of rev again and finally third. No fault code on dashboard. It just doesnt feel like i am getting what i expected when i put my foot all the way down accelerator. Car is fine no noise also no problem when driving around built up area. Its just when i try to join motorway i have to be very carefull and rev very high with lower gear to pick up my speed. When i press my foot down accelerator i just dont feel the power. My car is vauxhall astra 1.4 2012 excite.cheers

Catalytic converter for sure, our minivan developed the same problem, changed the Catalytic for an aftermarket good brand and now has all the power back, good acceleration and mileage back. Good luck.

The engine could be not putting out full power, due to clogged air filters, clogged fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, bad gasoline, clogged catalytic converter
Nice! I had this problem all last week, just after replacing my brake pads and rotors (which are still squealing and grinding despite being brand new).
Glad to know it's probably my calipers vs. my fuel injection system.
Was it? I had the same situation! Although all breaks replaced (new) and top right caliper.

But rear brake shouldn't spin freely as they have disk pads inside for brakes
I am just home now, I have been out all day as I am finished work for Christmas so finishing off my prep. I was taking off on my way home but noticed that when I went into second gear, my car struggled to accelerate. I stopped at a stop sign, and when stationary, I could accelerate and my revs increased as normal. When I took in 1st gear it was fine, then tried going uphill in second gear, but had to pull over as the car would not accelerate. I turned off the engine, turned it back on and was able to get up the hill in second gear, then switched to 3rd gear and the issue seemed to have gone, but then I slowed down at a round a bout, and had to drive slowly in 2nd gear until I got home. I was close by, so didn't see the point in stopping to call someone. Might need some one to look at my brakes if it's the same problem.

Hi, I am having similar problem with my car. After I changed my front tyre I notice when I press on gas to pick up speed it take long and it make noise and smells a bit also there is tick tick warning noise, so I have no clue what's wrong with my car. I did full servicing in Toyota dealer but they are big time cheater, they didn't do anything. Please can you help me with this problem? As I am a female the garage keep over charging me but not solving my problem.
Go to a local car mechanic garage, tell them the issue, they shouldn't charge just to check, sounds like same problem i had so check those brake calipers and surroundings, all the best

This is happening to my old Hyundai. Pulling away from lights even on a slight hill is so embarrassing, can’t get past 22 mph. First seems like it has 60% power, Second gear has maybe 30% and third’s not much better. In third it will rev and almost change sounding like an automatic. Taking it to the garage next week. I will mention this video’s findings.
I watched some videos, and maybe... just maybe you should check your break caliper to see if it's seized up or anything....

I'm a woman who is trying to learn how to do this on my own. I use to live in the country and had so many friends that worked on cars, I never learned how. I am now alone, as a single parent in the city, and I am trying to do this by myself. I'm competent enough from what I do know. But I need advice and I have no one to ask.
07 Aveo5, the basic of the basic cars. Electric nothing. The clutch won't allow the engine to engage with the transmission for some reason. It happened over about a day of driving. No misses previously. Now, I had to get my neighbor add power and push the car to get it into my barely uphill parking spot.
Fluid was barely low. Topped off and bled. It is also getting changed when I find out what is wrong. The pedal feels normal. I don't think it's the master cylinder. The slave cylinder and the clutch are caked in oil. I bought the car last winter and haven't had a chance to have it detailed. And the slave cylinder will not budge by hand.
Is this something you would try on your own? Or should I just sell what's left... Because I can't get help.
I feel like you got a slipping clutch, might be coz of the mentioned leak there unable to create optimum pressure. I am not an expert, get it diagnosed before it screw your gearbox.

I have had same problem with my Honda jazz … when I accelerate it feels like heavy drive. When i stop on signal and drive on it feels like car is losing pick up and takes time to reach normal speed. Also sometime when i uses brake with cloche pressed my car skids .. please can you give me any suggestions thanks

The rear calipers need to be changed and so I’ve had it sitting parked and warming it up yesterday and inflating the tires when I went to move it I had to apply more acceleration for it to move “normally” and the isles was jerking. Have no codes or anything.
Our car can only reach a top speed of 40kph and has no power to go through high surface or roads..pls help..

Check spark plugs and the rest of your ignition system, clean or replace mass air flow sensor, clean or replace egr valve, and check for any vaccume leaks.

I m gonna clean the upper intake, throttle body, that usually fixes it, plus 93 octane is better than 91, I m ruling out the fuel pump because I just drove from Houston to Missouri and it drove fine at all speeds. I'm not a mechanic so I'll know soon, when I clean all that again.

but what this has to do with uphill acceleration? having a wheel blocked in some way should be felt all the time

sounds like a misfire do take it in the garage to get it cheeked up also check on Google

I had an issue like this when my car was struggling up hills and stalling at idle and struggling to build up speed. it turned out to be the fuel pump. Unfortunately i’m not sure if it was the valve or the float or fuel filter cause i drive an un american vehicle (toyota) everything is expensive and ridiculously engineered
Hey there, I hope you can answer this. Did you have a misfire code or anything. I'm having a similar situation and I've done all the obvious stuff like spark plugs coils ext. How did you finally come to the conclusion about the fuel pump.
I will for sure check them as i go home....but i suspect the sparkplugs needs to be changed on mine cuz it just feels like it....by the way my car is a ford fiesta 2008
I’ve been having problems on my 06 civic and I’ve had the same problems but my rpm doesn’t move and neither the speedometer and it jsut show the oil light and battery light until I turn it off and if it started again it wouldn’t show. Anyone have thoughts?

It could be a wide range of problems but I would of thought it to be spark plug wires or ignition pack.

@@gavinb5784 It ended up just going away by itself in the end and i haven't had any problems since. I just chalked it up to maybe being a bit of dirty fuel.. who knows.
What help my car was cleaning the throttle body and changing the throttle censor
I had this issue. My mechanic recommended to clean throttle bottle. It still hasn't fixed the problem
Tai Davis change the throttle sensor and take your intake off and press the gas ( while car is off ) make sure throttle body is opening all the way with gas pedal down.
Tai Davis also make sure you battery is connected properly and tight . Sometime loose battery cables can cause bad idle.
Check for any broken vacuum leaks.
Change map and throttle censor.
Check linkage gas cable , make sure it’s opening throttle body all the way while gas pedal down.
Leave the censors for last. That way you don’t spend the money if you dont need too.
Let me know which one works bro.
Great finding! I have an experience about acceleration but it is about the supercharger tube damaged. It needs to be build up the pressure by the supercharger within the intake tube but one of the joint damaged that causing the problem.
So need to know your car in a little more deeper for diagnostic the problem.

I just had my breaks replaced by someone I know it was fine then I ended up with same problem. I wasn’t getting any acceleration up hills and no pickup whatsoever & bad smell. I was told my engines old or I need a new engine so but I’m still iffy.

Maybe clutch not engaging if the engine revs higher when you try to go fast and yet you have little to no power on wheels it could mean you have a bad clutch. Im assuming you have an automatic

i have a honda fit 2004 model that drives at high rpm at low speed, say 4000rpm at a speed of 90km/hr. It also seem to delay shifting. This problem has really been a challenge to kindly help because it shows no trouble code on the transimission and engine side

Hello. Can i ask a help from you with my bug problem . I actually got a 2000 model and The problem of it is The speedometer is not moving and the gas is not picking up wether I'm moving or just started the car.. when I'm moving my speed is only 50 then suddenly I notice the sound change so I press the acceleration to speed up. but the speedometer is not responding and the gas is not gaining..
I went to garage to fix it . And they fix fixed the injectors, 4pcs spark plug 3pcs ingine mount..
Then, when I try to drive the next day the problem is still the same and nothing is change. 🥺 please maybe you can help me with this problem as you are an expert on this...

I went again to thier garage today and I told them maybe my problem is also the break calibers and I ask them to check it . And they said break calibers doesn't do anything 😔 .
Instead they replace new fuel filter. if it's still the same problem then they said maybe the ignition .. and now I'm waiting for the result after replacing the fuel filter... they can't find the problem.😭😭😭🥺

I was having same issue on my car too . But on mine I diagnose easy because was smelling very bad and even a lot of smoke! Only on front wheels. So I decided to change the piston brakes , break gaskets and break pads on all w( with new parts! Now I have only one problem: the driver side wheel still have same problem ( break remain stuck and don't release the wheel 😔 ) .Simply I don't know what to do anymore... 😭😭😭😭

You don’t need to pay for dealership to plug in the diagnostic device into the car they can find any faulty codes or blow fuses and find out, not that I payed to get the device plugged into the computer

If it’s not the brakes is the shit fuel were using now and driving at 20 miles an hour it’s causing the whole car engine to plug up with carbon deposits and God knows what else

do carry out an diagnostic check and make sure its not the sensors causing issues, on my Honda car the only issue i came across was sensors, EGR valve and brake calipers
