    its easy to pick loads of holes in this, lifting techniques 15:47, handling cement with the bare hands 6:40, wearing shorts, and a pair of trainers, kneeling on wet mortar 8:20, that's quite a deep bed under the tiles, 240 cables trailing about the place 13:17, 13:08 no dust mask, but this is a nice job, it looks lovely and clean at the end.

    I am from Tunisia and this is exactly how we do our patios and exterior space , some peoples even use Terrazzo tiles . I have some cement tiles that I wanted to lay with Mortar the same way you did here , and everyone I asked here in Florida was like chocked lol 😂 they only lay sand here and lay pavers on top of it that’s it . No ones uses cement to lay pavers or tiles outside ... i finally tried to do the job and I am almost done , it was a first experience and not bad . But you did an amazing job in this video .

    Absolutely amazing job. If that was my patio I would be so reassured right now that my money was spent well. I've just moved into a new build and need to get some paving done in the garden. You just set my bar high. I'm going back and forth between slate (from Wales actually) or porcelain. I like how modern the porcelain tiles look but I also love the rustic natural look of real stone. Either way it's still a lot of money as I'm looking at 80m² in total.

    • @tidybrickslandscaping
      @tidybrickslandscaping  4 роки тому +6

      Tough choice contemporary and rustic why not go for both just zone it off with something. Some stone do have some great marbleised patterns that porcelain will never have I do really like that.
      My rate for porcelain is £170m2 if that helps stone a bit less

    Nice job. My guys do like to use a slightly wetter mix, but there will be no problem with the primer use. Its amazing how many so called Landscapers who dont use the slurry on porcelain slabs telling customers it will be fine! 👍

    • @tidybrickslandscaping
      @tidybrickslandscaping  4 роки тому +1

      Years ago I always used a bricklaying type mix for laying slabs then I watched a couple of Marshall’s online UA-cam videos on mix texture and it was a lot drier than I would normally use so I went with that never looked back. And yes it’s all about the primer the most important part of tile installation it sticks like glue once down you’ll never get it up unless you smash it up.

    A semi dry lean mix is also a vital part of the drainage, it allows any water that passes through the grout joint to seep through to the sub base and then into the ground below instead of sitting between the slab and cement bed, which could freeze during the winter months and lift a slab.
    This is very often over looked

    I had been told by a few people that you shouldn’t pave up to the brick work, but to leave a small gap and fill with small stone to prevent splash back on the dpc, also to allow a bit water to seep down to stop the clay beneath the foundation from drying out and thus any subsidence issues. Is this not the case?

    • @tidybrickslandscaping
      @tidybrickslandscaping  4 роки тому +1

      Not quite the case no regulations state you must be 150mm finished floor lever beneath the dpc course 2 visible bricks. And it’s better to keep the foundation’s dry ass possible. 👍

      Hey john it’s all good you most likely will enjoy using when you get your first contract for it, I laid stone for years loved it but always hated stone sizes always varied in size so you ended up with tight joints wide joints drove me insane but here’s where the porcelain comes in every tile exactly the same as the last finally you can use spaces and that helps you out in the long run but y0u will need a new type saw and be advisable to get a table saw because now you’ll have to be millimetre perfect 👌
      About your question on laying on type1 or concrete either way will work, I normally lay on type1 but will be moving on up and start laying on concrete with a polished surface then you could use a screeding trowel and put them down as you would tiling a indoor ceramic floor.
      More prep work but a very speedy ending flat as a pancake

Question - in several years of research for patio projects, this is the first time I've ever seen a method where you lay concrete out as you put out the tile. I think it's brilliant. What do you find the benefits of this method over just pouring a cement slab then putting down the file first? I’m a landscaper but haven’t laid porcelain before and I’m not experienced with drainage which is the part I struggle with most especially on a large patio. My patio is 6.5m deep so not sure what to do about drainage. 6.5m seems a bit long to just slope it away from the house on to the lawn as the drop will be quite a lot over hat distance. Any recommendations? Thanks very much!

    • @tidybrickslandscaping
      @tidybrickslandscaping  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Rupert I’m here to help where I can as for the drainage for this new patio the rule of thumb is for every 1 meter away from the house the height should drop down be 10mm so over your distance 6.5m it’s only 65mm depth of a brick so not to noticeable.. and if it’s your first time laying porcelain when you make cuts you’ll need a porcelain blade and you must cut wet water to stop the tiles from chipping. I lay porcelain all the time now years ago I only laid stone which is fine but I always hated stone slabs being different sizes all the time. Porcelain tiles are all exactly the same size which helps so much allows you to use 5 mm spaces too.

      As for a sealant I wouldn’t use it on a fresh patio for at least 6\12 months after laying to let any possible salt out otherwise you can trap the salt in the slab under the sealant and it will then bubble up and look really bad I’ve made that mistake once before never to be repeated.

      Semi dry or wet it all dries the same but it’s more difficult if you use a wetter mix they can move more and excess cement rises to the top through the joints and makes the face of the tile dirty. As long as you use a good primer it’ll set the same.
      Actually just uploaded a new video today using the primer. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    I have always been a fan of blinding down type 1 bases especially for gravel drive and recently for a patio. Thinking about your bedding mix would you consider using a Pan style mixer? Something like the Baron Mixers the screed guys use? Impressive video by the way.

      Just googled those mixers they look the biz 👍 I could get a conveyor too same place shit I need a bigger van
      I love type one you can almost sculpt with it
      I remember one of my first patios where I used it but didn’t know you had to wet it !!! I was a very dusty garden in the end lucky for me it was all well contained within the garden walls
      Just remembered it was paving phew 😅

    Tidy job on the installation!! Glad to have professionals like you still around :) Do you know if I can use a 10mm outdoor rated tile wet set into concrete? I talked to the manufacturer in their warehouse and they say that the tile and the pacer are the exact same thing except the paver is thicker...Is there something I should know before trying to install some 10mm outdoor floor rated tiles outside? Thanks in advance, keep up the great work!!!

      Well if it’s a outdoor tile then I suppose it’s fine. You don’t always have to tile on concrete a flexible bed 100 type1 mot hardcore base like I do is totally fine 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    I've had medium grey porcelain tiles laid and they get dirty really easily. They are matt finish (not glazed). Should I be sealing these?

      You don’t need to seal porcelain tiles maybe just buy a good squeegee brush 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

      Tidybricks Landscaping everything is going battery, only thing is that there basically a cordless 9” grinder arent they with the blade size.
