Do you mortar-in the block edging? I know that normally block paving shouldn’t be mortar installed, but maybe it’s different when being used as edging.

Is it best to always leave a gravel edge against the house for drainage?

No. If Dpc is 150mm and patio sloped from house away.

The gravel stops rain drops splashing onto the brick work

Not really the correct amount of sub base but will be ok for foot traffic. Also Tiles should be staggered by thirds not half.
    Looks good though, nice job.

I'm going to have rectangular tiles soon. Can you tell me the reason why the tiles should be 1/3 and not 1/2 or is it just wh

Although the porcelain tiles are meant to be perfectly flat they actually aren’t! Staggering by thirds is meant to counter any discrepancy and stop water pooling. The other way is to not stagger them at all, laying them in rows.
      Looks better in thirds. IMO.
      With 5mm joints.

Not even 50mm of base this patio will last 1 winter then be a total disaster
