Thanks so much! I love fishing the lake as well. Unfortunately for us the weather got pretty rough for most of the time we were there. The lake become unfishable after just a couple hours there. The creeks were not fishing easy, that's for sure lol
For sure. Don't get me wrong, I've definitely had better days Steelhead fishing. This weekend was super tough, but it's always a good time. Thanks for watching!
Haha not a bad idea! When its calm, I love fishing the lake. Unfortunately, a lot of times when I go we don't get the best weather and the waves are a bit too much. Nothing better than a steelhead crushing your lure in open water. Beats hanging with the crowd in the streams in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
I know man, wish you were up with us. It was tough as hell though. Probably won't make it back this fall, but I might go in February if we get some okay weather. Did it last year and it went pretty well.
Never fished for steelhead and I'm new to Ohio and live about 2 hours south of Lake Erie. When is the best time for steelhead fishing and what type of spoon/colors/sizes do you use? Could use any help for a newbie.
I have never fished the streams in Ohio, but from what I hear they are a lot less crowded than the PA streams. They make their run into the creeks in the fall. I have already read reports that the fish are sitting in the lake at the creek mouths, so you could even go now and fish the lake. They should be entering the creeks between now and mid-October. More waves come in throughout the winter, and you can find fish in the creeks as late as April. As for spoons, I like Little Cleo's. Doesnt seem to matter what color, but I prefer plain gold or silver. The streams are harder to fish with spoons, most are pretty small. People like using egg sacks or minnows there. I'm certainly no expert but hope all of this helps!
This was at the mouth of four mile creek I believe. Its hit or mess and definitely weather dependent. This was one one of the few times that the waves weren't crazy. Nothing better than chucking spoons out there though
Light line mostly. I was setup for low clear creeks, so not ideal for lake fishing. I was definitely afraid they were going to break me off on those big runs they take
Plus respect for lure fishing steelhead instead of eggs or beads. Idk your line strength but you might be able to up your drag a little, might've avoided that log
Thanks! I definitely enjoy lure fishing more than bait, almost too much. A little more of a challenge there. The line test was 6lb, so I definitely keep it light. I enjoy the fight. Usually I'm fishing a little more open water though, so it doesn't really hurt me most times. I had a pretty good feeling that even if I managed to hook one in that stream it was going to get wrapped. Looking back, I played him a bit too much too, should have forced him in a little quicker.
@@SCOutdoorsProductions that was my thought. But with 6 pound test it can be hard to tell what the right call is. If you had 8 or 10 maybe the drag should've been tighter

They’re something else when you get em in the open waters. Nice job
I agree! I would have preferred to do that a bit more while we were there. Mother nature had other plans unfortunately.
This shows how hard it is to hook and land a steelhead, its not as easy as some make it look! great video man, new sub

I never saw anyone intentionally give out line. What is your reasoning?
