Awesome video looks like it was a great time! I was catching them up here in Michigan on the 30th but not that many! Hope to fish the Erie tribs some day
Great video. I too live in Va. (Richmond) and try to make that drive to Erie several times each year for those awesome fish. However, 59 inches of snow put last weeks planned trip on hold. Steelhead on the Euro setup is my preferred method for sure.
@@fredmurray6190 yeah it’s the first time all year they have had water. They should be set for awhile now. Haha. Last year I had better conditions and landed 25. The year before was 17. Before I started tightlining for them I was thrilled with 1 or 2 in a day. It’s amazing how effective it is.
@@brooktoriverflyfishing I used to drift fish (same as this but with tackle) in clear PNW creeks. It was amazing watching beads (Corkies back then) drift a couple inches over their head and they wouldn't budge. Basically had to float it right into their mouth sometimes. So as close to bottom as possible was key, which is what euro nymphing also seems to do. Just lose a ton of gear.
Thanks for the video. For only steel heading once a year you are very good at it. Love fishing in that weather just not a fan of driving in it. Tightlines and Merry Christmas friend!
Thank you Dale. I spent most of a week preparing for that one day of fishing. It’s a big deal to me. And yes, fishing in the cold is fun. I do it all winter long in Va.
I’ve seen a lot of Erie trib fly fishing steelhead videos. This is definitely one of the better ones. Wish you could make more than once a year lol keep up the great work. I appreciate the information
Thanks buddy. Last year, I had better conditions and landed 25 in my one day up there. Sadly, I hadn’t started my channel yet. Oh well, there will always be more years.
@@downandout6670 thanks buddy. I some ideas in the pipeline. A few of them are tying videos. A killer winter pattern and another one for springtime. Stay tuned :-)
Haha. There were more at the beginning of the day. Most cleared out by 9:30. My buddy had to leave early due to a prior commitment. Not too many as crazy as me I guess. Only one other car there when I left. Roads were a mess on the way out.
Great vid I’m in Pittsburgh your lucky to be up there last week! I wouldn’t dare to make the drive. Hope you enjoyed the PA water! You talked about having issue seeing you sighter. Draw/paint on with a sharpie or Scientific Anglers Indicator pen a 2/3 inch black section at the change in your bi color section. I have no idea what it works. But my eyes pick up on it noticeably faster than if I don’t have that black section.
Thanks for watching and the tip. I actually have a black paint marker I just haven’t tried it yet. I have used some tri color Cortland sighter that had black in it for trout but I didn’t have it in heavy enough diameter for steelhead.
@ yeah give it a shot pick up some 2X or whatever. I just couldn’t believe on my friend showed me. I picked up his cider from 10 times further away than mine even was. Also awesome to see more guys euroing for steelhead. Just started this year with you same DB 10 10 6wt love it. You plan on getting the 7wt?
My home river is a smaller branch to the main river...brother in laws place. Has to be best at 300-400 cfs, but i can manage the small branch at 700 if i have to. It was at 700 when i left, hour later walking down to the water it was over 1700...in one hour! Turned around and blew some money at the fly shop. And yeah peg beads are tits i use them on my spinning, centerpin and fly rod
@@robertperman8967 since I only go one day a year, I’m fishing in pretty much anything. Was sad my day got cut short but it was still awesome. Thanks for watching.
@@robertperman8967 the drive is 8 hours if you don’t stop. I have little kids so we have to stop which makes it more like 10. We go up that far to see our family so most of our weekend is full before we arrive. I wish it were more but I’m thankful for the day I do get.
Without giving the spot away, is this an Erie trib that is in NY? I did a lot of exploring Erie this year. Just trying to build my knowledge of the area. Trying to find the parking for that trib, since I have not fished it yet.
The three buddies I go with like fishing 16, but after this years experience on 16, we rather walk and distance ourselves from people. My buddy caught a 21” brown on 16 and released it, the next day (Saturday) there were groups of unethical snaggers, and his Brown was on one of the stringers. It really hit us all hard that there are people that do this. Many of the sportsman in Erie are cool people tho.

Was out there on OH tribs and Elk the same time you were. Nice to see others are addicted as much as we are and braving the crap conditions.
Nice. Sounds like you all will have lots of water for the next few months now. Thanks for watching.

Rain and melting snow have blown out the creeks.
Yeah I hear some places in Erie had like 50”+ of snow since then. That’s insane. On a positive note, you should have water all winter now probably.
