He pulls guard instantly every match. He literally couldn't do anything in a real situation except maybe grab on to a limb as he's being slammed to the ground.

If there is such thing as a Mikey Lock, he should have named it on his "legalized heel hook" straight footlock he uses in gi competitions. That shit is legitimately dangerous and innovative in the gi.

Wow, very interesting. This looks like the Magala Lock, but Mikey's using a different grip. Rather than doing a rear naked grip with his outside hand grabbing the heal his outside hand is grabbing the opponents toes while the inside hand cups the heel to get way more crank. Incredible.

You‘re right. It is silly but the fact that an athlete is being compared to a scientist just gets under my skin. Bjj is very complex.. but you can’t compare the complexity of it to a physics degree for instance.

Bas Rutten did that 25 years ago multiple times in Pancrase, also put it in his grappling book. Crazy how new competitors revolutionize old moves. I'm putting money on Mikey taking ADCC this year!
I heard that while Bas used the same setup, the actual finishing mechanics are very different.
I feel like I've seen Erik Paulson teach a foot/leglock just like that. Maybe it was more of a toehold where you use your cheek to apply pressure to the foot.
