Imagine the shitstorm if people were computer-literate and understood how ridiculous a mandatory account for your (paid) OS is
11 is more of a rental or free-to-start OS than it is paid.
That's another reason it's despised.
I'm running Windows 11 with two virtualized Win11 boxes inside it. (One is Blue Iris, and the other is Utorrent) The Windows all legal and I paid nothing. (and yes, I use a Microsoft account)

I agree 100% with everything you said about Microsoft. The day I can't figure out a way to use Windows without setting up a Microsoft account is when I find another OS to run.

Yeah, switch to Linux, use virtual machine for windows if you have to use special windows only applications. For general use, Linux is more than enough.
That day is here already, when the update 22h2 comes out this fall, windows 11 pro will also require a MS account like the home version. There are some workarounds but MS removed two different workarounds already so anytime someone comes up with a new one they will keep removing them. Then when you do a clean install eventually you will run into this problem.
Dont forget that it's always morally correct to pirate software if the developer is a privacy-violating evil megacorporation!
it's not even worth pirating since it's not a good operating sytem anymore. the last good windows was windows 7. with w11 you have even less options than w10, everything is more closed with barely any choices.

Remember to constantly clear the programs and codes with security, which is what I don't like about windows 10 and it's twin 11. Went from 7 to 10.

I'm sick of Windows spying period. Moved to Linux last year, from MS-DOS to a brief use of Win11, I decided 'that's it'. One of the best software/OS things I've ever done.

@@kr6to409 keep in mind what I about to answer with , primarily, I only have room to talk involving debian based distros..most specifically to Mint Cinnamon.. your results could vary a little.
To answer your 1st question....
1. Linux is not windows. Yes your basic way of interacting with things like launching programs or opening documents is still the same overall in that you single.or double left click on the items ( and of course you also have the option. To launch those things via a terminal command.)
However, some things require a little work to get up and going.
Windows native games are a perfect example of this with really the only exception being Steam. The Linux steam client from my experience for many years basically just works with very few exceptions that require setting certain settings a certain way. Expect ALITTLE work up front..maybe I'm even a lot of work, but it will be worth it with the right hardware.
2. Speaking of the right hardware, it is my opinion and experience (as well as Many other Linux gamers' experiences) that with fairly modern AMD graphics cards, getting everything setup and ready to rock with gaming is easier. The correct drivers are already built.into the Linux kernel with VERY rare exceptions -ancient gpus far older than rx200 series for an example-.... Versus Nvidia gpus setup being luck of the draw easy depending on the distro and the Nvidia GPU generation. Nvidia most often takes more work getting ready to rock. Pop Os and even Linux Mint have done well to make this easier in recent fee years.
3. The file system structure is different. Ya don't have a c drive. Drives aren't lettered, and where native Linux programs are installed and even their executables (which aren't labeled as .exe in Linux) are in different places sometimes depending on the program..
But sometimes this doesn't matter because when you install most stuff it either auto creates a desktop shortcut, or gives you the option to easily. For others, I can show you how.
5. Speaking of installing things, that often is different too. With Linux you I stall programs or games either vis a distros Software Manager or center, via terminal commands, via double left clicking on a .Deb file ,( which imo is white similar to a .msi file in that...you double cleft click it ..and it walks you through installing the item) if it's a debian based program, or unzip and extract the item and either you can run it the normal clicking way, or must run it via a terminal command - such as gdu...a disk space checker Linux native program.
6.. Unlike , at least as of the time of typing this entire comment 7-8-22, winturd 11...you CAN move your panel (windows users call this the taskbar) any of the four sides of your screen as well as resize it's height/thickness to many sizes and put things where ever you want as well as add whatever you want...some things are stupid easy to add, others take ALITTLE more more but again I can walk you through it. No prob.
7. Updates, unlike in winturd...YOU control how updates work...YOU decide which updates you get, when you get them, which ones you get at any particular time, which ones you want to either temporarily or semi permanently blacklist (semi meaning you can STILL change your mind and whitelist that or those package updates). YOU have the power, not some idiot lying big hypocritical corporation with a proven track record of privacy disrespecting and evil behavior.
And they are stupid easy to deal with too. You already have a little shield.icon right on the right hand side of your panel you click on to deal with it.
8. Basically everything in the Linux world is a file...including how the Linux distro ( aka operating system,) labels your hardware of that PC. terminal commands like. lshw can tell you a good deal of info as well as the program Hardware info found in Mints software center.
8b. Rarely..a piece of software you install could be labeling differently when doing a Cinnamon menu (basically same thing as a windows 7 start search in 99 percent of the way..same hotkey too and location) such as one example of Hardware Info will be called system profiler and benchmark or something like that. Not the end of the world but don't panic if you see that. It still works.
9. In Linux ( and some distros allow even MORE adjustment than others OOTB) you have editing access to almost ANYTHING...including the ability to brick your installation by editing fstab file if you edit it wrong or worse doing the terminal command of " rm / " without quotes which will nuke your root folder aka directory and you'll find ourself at an unbootabke distro and have to reinstall all over again. Which leads me to my next point.
10. Linux is very powerful. If you're not careful, you can nuke all your data and the distro itself and have to start all over depending on the terminal commands you execute.
So take your time to read some. Don't just take any random idiots advice. People love to troll others ( yes I know.in other news on here...water is wet)
However, speaking of good commands to learn...
11. practice these and you'll be saving yourself as well as others much troubleshooting guessing. (Yes..you didn't learn windows over night..ease don't expect to learn Linux in even a months time either. Takes time but that's ok..it will be worth it.)
Sudo apt update ...as the name entails..this checks for possible updates that are available similar to doin fit the GUI way with that shield icon.
inxi -Fxxxrz ( yes one space between inxi and -Fxxxrz). This will produce a report of how the distro sees your computer but doesn't show any personally identifiable information, and it saves much speculation time when you're needing to troubleshoot most problems you could encounter. This is involving step 5 at forums.linuxmint.com on the How To Get Help link they keep posted right above there you Thor a question and your responses. Sincerely. Practice using this. And yes just like any command regardless of how long it is...you can just copy it from any webpage and paste it anywhere ya need to save on typing effort.
12. Incase this wasn't obvious, Linux let's you Own...YOUR PC as it should be, but you're 100 percent in the driver's seat. Yes you have forum sites but no one vendor is responsible for tech support. You are your own tech support. But if you practice commen sense and practice doing things..you'll be surprised at how fast you get comfy in that world and perhaps learn newer and better ways of doing certain things.
If you have any questions as well as are ready to get started , I can help getting you up and going with Mint Cinnamon as sincerely it will probably be your most gentle transition into the Linux world. Given how much visually alike to windows 7 and small pieces of 10 it is OOTB.
Your file manager, Nemo, works 99 percent just like windows file explorer except more customizable. The cinnamon menu search's locally only...the way it should be ( oh and NO bullshit ads built.in either nor keylogging nonsense..again...privacy respect at the OS level as it should be.
I'm also on forums.linuxmint.com and many many others are far more knowledgeable than I am with many more years of a variety of experience
2nd question of yours....
You'll probably want to change the default icons as many consider them flat and ugly..I do. I prefer hicolor or adwaita ( in Mint this is found with a cinnamon menu search for " themes" and then select Icons.
But Definitely open up Time shift and disable automatic backups. By default time shift will auto backup your basic parts of your system (what makes it boot up successfully) to your root folder. This will eventually cause it to become not bootable if it fills up, and it can fill up fairly fast. In the GUI options..select to target a separate drive and you'll be golden.
One more tip and this is applicable regardless of the os world you're in be it Linux, windows, or Mac....back...it ..up.
I'm talking a physically separate drive with a simple copy and pasting of your precious docs, pics, music, videos, saved game data files/folders, screenshots of certain launched programs ' settings, etc. And if needs be a mother separate drive for system image backups or clones.
Foxclone is definitely your friend. The dev... AndyMH is an active forum member.of forums.linuxmint.com and is white helpful in that as well as.othet things. Foxclone does t care nor need to care if you run windows, Mac, or Linux. It backs up via just 0s and 1s... precisely how the data is laid it on the drive. So there is none of this nonsense.of it not being a compatible backup nor restoration method vs the os world.

@@kr6to409 Motoryzen as given a wonderful description of the techinical stuff. But here is from a different side of things. I'm not technical so this is what you also need to do. It will also help in the long run.
Start by seeing what programs you use work on Linux. Then if they don't try find ones that work on Linux and Windows. In doing so, slowly start to switch over to them while still on Windows. I know this will be a bit of a pain, but worth it in the long run. So that by the time you change over to Linux, you don't have to learn a whole new operating system and new programs at the same time. Be warned there may be some programs that you cannot find replacements for or you may need more than one program to do the same job. And for now you may need a virtual machine for those if you can't live without them. Also Adobe products do not work on Linux.
A deal breaker for many.
For me my biggest hurdels was trying to get my Nvidia graphics card I had at the to work. Linux mint Cinnamon has some easy to follow notes on that. Now happily using AMD which is plug and play 🙂 The other was how to download and install things on the pc other than just through the repository. I used a few programs that were not in there or were newer versions of them. Most of the other stuff can be learned in time. But those were my two deal breakers and why it took me years to be able to move to Linux. Also a reason I like Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition is that it looks and feels kind of familiar, like XP/7 look. This will also help cut down on the initial learning curve.
When you are using Linux, one of my best friends is Timeshift (restore point) been my life saver for minor issues. I've yet to find a way to perminately crash the computer, it is as stable as hang 🙂 I've been poking in the dark at it now for nearly 3 years and it is still going 🙂
When it comes to updates, I usually wait about a week or so after a kernal update comes in. This will give time for any bugs that it may have slipped passed to be sorted. Before I didn't do that and found I had to use Timeshift to fix things a few times.
My techicnical know how goes about as far as been able to put an OS on my computer and not much more. But Uncle Google is very helpful. Another reason to stick to Ubuntu based distros if you are not very technical. There is a lot of help out there. Copy and paste comes in very handy 🙂 If you don't want to stay on something like Linux Mint, you can always change to another distro once you have found your feet.
I agree with everything you said about being forced to have a Microsoft account. I can also see how this mandatory requirement can be an issue for computer builders and computer repair business'es. Hold on to your hats though because windows 11 has more unreasonable secrets to come!
That's spam got me to look at this thread again lol, you should see how brutal it is for it professionals. I have users creating random Microsoft accounts that they can't keep track of. And then I have to go through extra steps to create a local user account when I'm putting a computer on my network. Microsoft knows domain users have no interest in having a Microsoft account in Enterprise so they want us to buy the Enterprise version of Windows instead of windows pro.
Totally agree. That is the same as a SINGLE PLAYER game software company requiring me to be connected to the internet to play it. Why??? Answers are obvious.. dependency, user tracking etc.
i hate the phone number requirement too. ive lost so meany accounts becuase i ofton loose my phone number and password and sequiry question are all of a suddon not acceptable. despite i bet hackers can eaisly spoof a phone as much as can crack a password
Everything you said about ownership, privacy, and so on is correct. Local accounts are important and everyone should use them. That said, there's a method you didn't cover that is extremely easy that I recently discovered for laptops: use the function keys to put it into airplane mode. That disables internet without any need for CMD hacks :D
Today 16Nov2022 on a lenovo laptop - I tried using the airplane mode trick it did NOT work but the instructions in this video using the command prompt did work.
I'm becoming sick of Microsoft. The age of where I absolutely wanted to update Windows to a new edition to see the graphical changes and... just be amazed, are gone.
I've started watching vids about Windows 11 since I found the "Windows 11 must be stopped" video from Jody Bruchon, and he also explains how you are slowly losing ownership of your very own computer that you bought, and the unability to log in without internet.
I'm currently switching to Linux, because even if we can bypass many of Windows 11's restrictions, I have lost all trust to what bullshitware could be hiding in the system. You know, settings re-enabling on their own, spyware that you cannot disable... It's gonna happen.
Yup I saw that Vid as well! The integration with TPM and secure boot scares the hell out of me. I plan on going to linux and run anything that needs windows through Virtual box and or wine. i have to point this out but use any modern distro of linux without the internet, also your hating on having an Ms account while your on UA-cam using a Google Account which is significantly worse...
@@MartinBarker Google is bad, but I use a browser that blocks all of their fuckery. That and I do not have a Google PC or OS that does makes a difference. I only use the Google account for UA-cam and dump for Emails I don't want going to my ISP. I guess I could look for a more private email.
Might be time to give Linux a try. I use Arch as my daily driver, with a 2nd hard drive that's got Windows 10 on it for certain tasks (mostly just so I can still write certifications on Pearson VUE). I do not like that I had to disable my wifi & ethernet in BIOS to get the most recent Windows 10 installer to even suggest using a local account, and I don't like that I had to disable the TPM in BIOS to prevent it from constantly nagging me about "upgrading" to Windows 11. Microsoft is no longer a company that's interested in enthusiasts and definitely doesn't cater to experts any more.

@@pancho5843 I should check the version I installed, Rufus was literally how I got it to install in the first place and I made an offline/local account (I went ahead and turned on all things Microsoft wanted but my machine was still not good enough until rufus lmao)
Ya know a guaranteed way and not have to use any specific usb prepper?. Simple
Disconnect power to your internet modem BEFORE ya even boot up that PC and begin the winturd 11 installation wizard, then power it and your router (wait at least 120 seconds before powering back on your router) and continue the install process.
Seems as almost the same aside from not giving you the option directly as later builds of 10. Just type in local twice no big deal. I may test out 11 on a different computer someday or something. For now I'm super content with 10. I was an early adopter for 8 81 and 10. I'll sit this one out until I encounter something that will not run on 10
Preach, man. Spot on in every argument about the subject. I loved Windows (the "good" versions) for what it was. Now is unusable for me. I will be having dual booting with Linux as my main system for the things I need that require Windows, and totally ditching it if that becomes impossible. Right now I use it for work in a VM for all the BS Windows 10 has. Even debloated I'm fighting to configure certain things that "automatically" reverse my decision on the setting. Infuriating.
Just use Windows 7 lol. Still works just fine and you can avoid all of this trouble.

I only use Local Accounts. I recently setup a Windblows 11 Pro computer and made sure there was no internet connection which worked out well.
Microsoft will only start to change something about this if the number of users plummets. As long as they have a virtual monopoly, they won’t change a thing. I gave up on windows years ago

Heartening to know that there are still easy workarounds for this. I like to believe that the developers (many of whom likely use Windows on their own personal machines) choose to quietly look the other way when tasked with patching the installer; if only for their own sanity later. It's important that we continue to make it clear to MS (as well as other companies putting soft locks on our hardware, looking at you NVIDIA) that there is a very hard line in what is acceptable to turn into a service; that line generally being the base functionality of a product with no innate need to be connected to the internet.
Windows is awesome for certain businesses. We use it at work that have to show compliance with some data protection and ISOs i don't understand and the windows ecosystem apparently fits the bill. Teams and sharepoint make collaboration so easy. For my home, though i am linux. Even my new pc will be linix only, for the first time.

Another method that I've used successfully that sometimes works is hitting Alt + F4 when you get to the network connection page. It kills the Network Flow process and you can proceed with setup. Though it doesn't always work. I've also seen that the latest version of Rufus (3.19 as of this writing) allows you to create a bootable Windows 11 image that skips the telemetry setup, and it should also skip the MS account setup option. Though I haven't tested myself yet I'm going to try that one out to see if it works. I image a lot of machines working at an MSP, so having fast and simple ways to bypass this stuff is very helpful.

This is the route Microsoft has been going for 20 years. Ever since Windows XP came out you have to get their permission to use YOUR computer. Product activation was the start of all this.

w11 is worse than xp since you can at least install xp without an internet connection, with 11 you cant.
Guess what kind of OS does allow you to OWN your own, without the permission of a company you had to pay!

Also: you had only two-weeks (literally, 14 calendar-days) from the moment you installed Windows to "activate" your Windows (regardless of whether-or-not you registered your Windows by using the Registration-Key[/Product-Key] provided with the paperwork-&-booklets-&-manuals that came with your Windows disc (something you LITERALLY had to do JUST to be able to install the damn thing)), or it would lock-itself on you, and the only way to unlock it is to activate it. (Literally, when you press the Power button on your computer, and Windows would boot-up, Windows would take you to the Activation screen, and there were 2 options: ●Activate Windows, or ●Shut-Down Computer).
that and/or call a toll-free number which (nothing's changed since then) is STILL a pain-in-the-ass to use (crappy Customer-Service and all that).
@@reoencarcelado5904 For XP, I often used the phone number to activate it, I did so tons of times. Most of the time it would entirely be automated. Enter the special number given to you for this phone session, now enter your product key, congrats its activated have a good day. I can still hear the automated message now I did it so often. The only time I ran into issues was if I was moving the activation to another computer but even then I always got a rep that would ask a small handful of questions, deactivate the other computer, and allow me to activate on the new computer, generally pretty painless. The activation numbers were separate from the usual customer service numbers if I remember right.
Also Windows activation has been around since Windows 95, you couldn't install windows without it, but lately it's been moving to be easier and easier. From not being able to install it at all to being able to install and use it for a limited time, to being able to use it indefinitely but with some minor restrictions, I'm not sure what the current state is.
But Linux has always been there if people really want to use an open source OS, it's good we have options.
I did the same sort of thing when I re-installed Windows 10 last year. I seem to recall you telling me how to do that, via one of your videos. It worked perfectly too, so thanks for your great instructions!

I'm still using 10 for as long as possible, but my favorite machine still runs 7 Pro.
@@blakepace I am 70, Just upgraded my last Win 7 System to 10 for free. Do not use that computer often as it is on the bedroom desk when I used to work from Home in the evenings before retiring. 10 is OK as well as 11, but my favorite was 7.
I probably installed 7 on hundreds of machines as I was the go to Guy
for Work and Family for fresh installs. BTW you can still do the upgrades from 7-10 for free just do it through the Microsoft Site. Had 7 on my Laptop
and it caught some malware that actually took out the Motherboard, so I bought a Win 11 Lappy and have been doing fine with it. If you continue to use 7 be careful anytime connected on the Internet, the Hackers and Malware Criminals know every one of It's vulnerabilities.
microsoft services/accounts become cool when u get more things of their ecosystem, like an xbox, having the same account and cross saves for xbox in pc and console is really neat

Wow. Super helpful, thank you. I can't stand the fact that Microsoft requires you to login with one of their accounts. I just got a chance to setup a Win11 machine for the first time and actually had to google how to bypass it. The page I found previously didnt give me 4 solutions though, so thank you for the options. For that last solution, you dont need to actually use what you are going to setup your local account as. You can just type any email with a wrong password and still get that OOPS message and bypass the login.
Very cogent arguement! I really relate to your old guys rule / tech guy persona, because I'm an old guy that works on computers.
I absolutely agree with you regarding the use of my own computer or tablet. I have used ipads for many years without activating password or security codes in order to open my own tablet for at home use. I conduct no business on my ipad. So far I have been able to bypass the activation screens by saying "do not create" when asked to assign codes of any kind. When Apple stops allowing me to say no I will stop using their tablet.
Excellent video! I will be using these for sure. We are a Managed Service Provider to small businesses and we are always coming up against this sort of annoyance. Almost all our customers have Microsoft 365, so theoretically, we should be able to set up using the MS365 account, if we choose the option for Organisation rather than Personal right at the beginning. Well, no. Most new accounts use 2FA, and we can't set that up without the customer being there. We're setting up the PC either without the customer there at their office, or at our office, again without the customer there.
So we tend to create local accounts if at all possible.
And Microsoft accounts don't just track you, steal your data etc. A lot of the time, when Microsoft randomly comes up with a prompt to create a Microsoft account, an end user will do so, with his or her personal details. Then the fun starts! Windows makes it awkward to re-use the PC when they've left, because it's a personal account. Or sometimes they use a real personal account, and their personal favourite websites, personal email and so on start appearing. And some computers are shared login. Then it becomes locked out to one of the users because another user won't want to give their personal password.
Basically, these Microsoft accounts cause problems. I hate them.

I honestly hope Windows continues to worsen or just flat out starts completely reversing their course and becoming more like Linux.
If Windows continues to worsen, maybe Linux will see an ever increasing rate of adoption and start to become an actual target for developers of useful/fun software.

Funny enough though if you're running a computer that has Windows S mode (pretty much rendering your entire system in a complete deadlock) and the only solution is them FORCING you to make an MS account and heading over to the MS store to download the option to disable, so now you finally have basic access to your computer. Stuff like this should be illegal in my opinion, but heck what do I know.

One of the things that put me off doing Hackintoshes is that you eventually get the sense of “why do I fight with software that doesn’t want me using it?” MS is getting the same way. I’m really thankful there are so many good DEs out there nowadays that it’s not a huge issue relegating Windows to a once-in-a-while status.
The funny thing about your (terrific!) install tips is that I always leave my computer disconnected during setup anyway, since I hate when it completes OOBE And starts auto-downloading drivers.
Frankly I’m leaning toward “digital death”. That’s heartbreaking for me being a retired network engineer but what people fail to realize as computers enter non repudiation ( you can’t deny that you created a file ) I also opens the door to someone remotely authenticating to you account and creating nefarious files bearing a non reputable digital signature. A digital life to way to complicated ! My new life is growing a garden, alas I find that MORE complicated but with far better rewards !

The stupid part about all this is that I was recently setting up my new Windows 11 device, and actually _wanted_ to use a Microsoft account with it - but there's a bug in Windows 10 that I was afraid was still lurking in Windows 11 (it would chop letters off the end of the user folder) so I actually ended up skipping the Microsoft account during OOBE and added it afterwards
I do definitely agree that those that want a local account or those that have no other choice should be allowed to, no loopholes and backdoors necessary

When setting up/installing windows, do not connect ethernet or wifi. then it will give you the option “i don’t have internet”. This is what i always do. Just to skip rebooting and stuff

@@CyberCPU I used to be a Windows user and ran a dual boot system for a number of years. Early this year I realised that I could do everything I wanted under Linux as I hadn't booted into Windows for quite some time. So I reformatted and gave Linux Mint the entire drive. I don't have a problem with Windows, just for me Linux is a better fit. It's just another tool to get the job done.

In the year 2022, there is almost no reason to use Windows over Linux. Only reason I can see someone using Windows at this point is if it is absolutely required for their work or something like that. Even then most Windows programs (especially games) work just as good on Linux if not better, running through something like WINE (program that allows running Windows programs on Linux). I mean it's ridiculous to have to find random commands or workarounds to just simply use your computer without a network connection. People are basically in an abusive relationship with Microsoft when using their PC.
Long time windows user here… never felt at home with Linux… but what changed that us actually chromeOS surprisingly.
I feel it’s only a short mater of time before we say goodbye to windows.
@@cybertrk I mean Linux is not Windows so it’s not going to be exactly the same. I always liked to tinker with things so Linux felt awesome due to all the control it gives. ChromeOS is also run by Google so it’s kind of like trading one evil for another in my eyes.
Microsoft has definitely become lazy though. Windows 10 to 11 has barley any changes at all, you can literally change a few registry files and it looks exactly like Windows 10. The only difference is that 11 spies even more than 10 did. I would like to think that if they keep going down this path, people are going to get too fed up to continue using the OS.
@Jojo Rabbit sorry to hear that but with the games I play I have no issues. I’ve played FFXIV, Overwatch, Fallout 4 (with mods), Skyrim (also with mods), even Cyberpunk 2077, and various other smaller steam games. All these games run flawlessly for me.

This is barely scraping the surface. So very, VERY few know about or are talking about what's coming AFTER this, that this is paving the way for: Windows 365... I've been doing PC Tech/Sysadmin work for 28 years and have watched this creep up on the world since Windows 7. It all started when users were able to use the "Troubleshoot" system. This was the beginning of automation of Tech/Sysadmin jobs.
Now add cloud computing to the mix, they want you to use their OneDrive and MS account to log into everything, including the OS itself. Why? Because Windows 10 and 11 are the foot into the door of something far, FAR more disruptive of the IT workforce and even your average PC user at home. Windows 365 will be the LEG in. Windows 365 is considered (somewhat optional FOR NOW) a Desktop as a Service (DaaS), using a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), essentially Virtual Machines for everything and everyone. It's ALSO going to cost you monthly or annually, just like Office 365, for a subscription to even USE your computer, because the desktop/OS is now a service/utility.
Isn't it interesting that Race Communications and other ISPs are racing to get everyone on Fiber? Because what's coming next is that all PCs are going to be replaced by Zero/Thin Clients. We will no longer have local storage, memory, CPU or advanced GPU. You're going to log into your MS account on your thin client, and all storage/graphics/computing will be done through a virtual environment in their data centers. And for gamers/streamers, no more building gaming PCs with the latest GPU, CPU, memory, SSD, etc.
This is all going to be sold to the general (ignorant) masses as a "positive" change, with some of the Pros actually being a nice QoL service, but the Cons REALLY outweigh the Pros.
For example (Pros):
1. You will never need to buy anti-virus or software/hardware firewalls ever again.
2. You will no longer have to worry about data loss or getting hacked.
3. You will no longer have to worry about upgrading your PC, part by part, because you will get a whole new one when the time comes, which is very rarely.
4. You will no longer have ANY software issues. All you have to do is call technical support or more than likely message Edison365 (Microsoft's AI tech support system), they will have you log out and refresh your VDI session, log back in, and everything will be restored to a time before any issues occurred.
(Cons):
1. You will have to pay monthly/annually to even USE your Desktop (It's now a service/utility).
2. There will be ZERO privacy, you will not be able to use a VPN (because you're most likely going to be using one to even access your VDI session).
2.5 Anything and everything you do or create within your VDI will be captured and stored indefinitely on their cloud, just like anything you do on social media like FaceBook.
3. They will technically own all of your data, and if you don't pay for or can no longer afford the subscription, you will no longer have access to ANY of your data.
4. There will be ZERO freedom of customization, because they are not going to allow you to use/install ANY software that isn't approved via the Software Store.
But I think this may be inevitable. We still keep buying, using, and paying for their BS. The people who work at Microsoft need their jobs and want to keep them. Until we stop supporting them, they will just keep on keepin' on.
Public awareness needs to be proliferated at massive scales.

I fully agree with your thoughts on Microsoft accounts. I suspect that Microsoft is aware of these workarounds and has intentionally left them in. They want to make it difficult to avoid signing up for the vast majority of people, but they don't want to lose decades-long professional users (including developers like me) who refuse to use MS accounts.

Windows 11, with its restrictive support, enabled manufacturers to push new models and I am sure that Microsoft will have taken a cut in order to help the hardware vendors sales. So they already have multiple avenues to remain as profitable and huge as ever. I have never used a Microsoft account for Windows and never would. It is intrusive ad IMO, should be prohibitive. Microsoft could always go back to the old method of introducing new versions, selling them. Service based systems only become the norm if we allow them to be.

I just installed Windows 11 on an old unsupported HP laptop (14 years old - no UEFI, no TPM, Core Duo CPU with 4GB RAM). I used a hybrid USB stick (Windows 10 with Windows 11 - 22H2 install.wim file). I stayed on the wireless network during the install and when I had to enter a Microsoft account I used "Method 4". So this STILL works as of April 2023, Rich. I had to enter three verification questions and answers but the install proceeded as expected and I'm using a local account. Of course, I probably won't be activating but the restrictions aren't too annoying. Cheers!
In order to use Google Play services (including Play Store) on Android, you need to have a Google account. However, you can use Android without creating a Google account

Needed to reinstall recently. I found a stripped Win ISO. Meant to optimize for gaming but besides some drivers I had to lookup manually all software runs fine. It can be a bit risky so make sure it's a reliable source. It's also soooo much faster without all the window bloat and (spy) services. Think we'll be seeing more of these types of modified Windows setups. Similar to Android and the many de-googled roms you can get.
Unless you got it from MDL, the ISO could have a back door without triggering any malware detection.

The real issue is what happens when you do use a Microsoft account on Windows. It changes my user name, I have to use my online password which is a reall pain in the ass to type in every time I want to log in, and on the resulting errors as result of One Drive uploading my hard drive. The issue is I don't want those services because they are garbage, I have tried them and they failed me in dramatic fashion.
I wouldn't think of using my MacBook without being log in with a iCloud account because I actually want those services because they make my life so much easier.
Now I know I could 'disable' one drive, or even 'uninstall' there is no certainty those settings will last. I would never buy anything out of the Microsoft store since they have so much fake and malicious software in there.
I've tried Windows 11 and it's remarkable how bad it is and as a vision person how much of a regression it is. BTW, Win 10 is already a regression in user experience, so Microsoft is continuing the regression they started with Win 7.
I'm seriously considering a domain controller to get around this Microsoft horseshit.
Your point about using your account password to log in is so true, one of the things that made using a Chromebook such a turnoff for me wasn’t the limited features (which I understood going in) but the fact that you’re expected to enter and re-enter and re-re-enter and… your super-lengthy account password.
My computer’s in my house Microsoft, if someone I don’t know is accessing it I have bigger problems.

The issue is that MS will remove all these workarounds eventually like they have already with previous workarounds. It will still be an issue in the future when you have to do a clean install. I wouldn't be surprised if windows 12 is a subscription.

I'm experiencing this now. One day my Microsoft 11 Pro works fine. Bc I didn't want Microsoft 365 Cloud ....bc I have my taxes all on my personal laptop. Obviously confidential. But then next day all my docs in the Cloud, I can no longer see Windows 11 Pro anywhere in my search or OS. When I try to move my docs from cloud to my flash drive I can't. Then system won't let me open any email bc it tells me I don't have enough memory bc Microsoft Cloud only provides 5mb of space. To get around it your forces you to buy a subscription in order for me to access my own confidential personal files that were previously on desktop, now forced into cloud. But I can't open anything at all bc everything I click on on my desktop is totally locked up. I'm so mad my personal data is now on the cloud!

i wish i knew this a while back when i upgraded to win 11 on my gaming rig. as i mostly play single player games, i don't need the internet to play them. is there a way to go back and do this without a full factory reset and lose all the data and games i have installed?
Yes, you can switch a Microsoft account to a local account. However it seems like they keep making it harder and harder to do. It used to be a little link on the account page that says make local account.

Despite having had an account since the days of Hotmail, I've got no interest in linking it to my desktop profile, or making a new account for the sake of such. Definitely going to keep this video in mind should I ever move to Win11 (my current machine is too old to be worth installing it right now. I only just put 10 on recently).
I want to make my own operating system that doesn't have so much junk! That's why I like Linux and Ubuntu for so many reasons, and you can add start menus and things to make it look and feel window-ish.
But windows hogs up processing speeds, memory for stupid things that I end up removing or revoking access to.
I want to make one that doesn't have all this crap and doesn't take all your ram or core speeds
Switched to Linux years ago, and it was a bit tough to get used to, however now, there is literally no reason to use Windows. Things like games work great on Linux out of the box now to the point where performance is sometimes better on a Windows game running on Linux, than it is just running on Windows.

I've used Ubuntu as my whole home media server for years, and I love Linux for it being so slim it really blows windows out of the water. And plus Linux you can control so much more of what it does, and have access to do what you need when you need it.

Windows 10 Home is a cheatin' piece 'a crap. I wanted to remove my pin from the login screen, and the only way I was able to was to sign in. It looked like it worked, but I quickly found out that removing the pin locked me out of a few things I wanted to do. I can't remember what it was I wanted to do, but it pissed me off enough to do a trick to get the versions selection menu back in the installer.
What I mean by that is with media creation tool it's missing the ei.cfg file so it always defaults to installing whatever version of Win10 your machine previously had on it, (or so I've read). I've never gone through that before because my desktop has always been on pro, but when my wife gave me her older laptop it had Home on it.
It seems like Pro doesn't ask for an account to be setup, probably due to it being the business version, which is expected to be in a business network with multiple machines. All I know is I was disgusted when I was forced to not only make an account, but to be signed into it in order to use certain features. Personally I think the Store login should be separate from your machine. I like to use the Netflix, and Prime Video apps so I don't have to interact with a browser to use them, and some of my motherboard apps are downloaded through the store as well. Sonic Studio 3 is one of them.

When Bill Gates left, Microsoft strongly shifted its focus to a cloud service company, and as you can see, now their Windows versions can be as shitty as they want, the cloud business is way more profitable and future-proof.

12:17 This is kind of similar to the first method I used to bypass Windows 10's MS login screen. I entered random phone number, and it reveals Local Account option lol. The code for creating local account was always there in OOBE, but Microsoft don't want you to know it's there, and keeps trying to hide the option.
If I recall doesn't windows 10 have an option for local on the bottom left when installing?
@@raf590 They initially had one, but they removed that button in later versions of Windows 10 OOBE.
You can still use Linux if you really don't want a Microsoft account, but I also like creating a local account.
If you use the ISO to make install media with Rufus, it can put your name and stuff in there for you and create the local account. If I made an installation media from any of my PCs with that method any PC I use that media on to setup Windows 10 or 11 will have my name on it autmatically by default. It not only gets you around making an account but if you have more than one computer that may be helpful to you. Export the drivers and put them in a drivers folder on that stick or another drive. Then the next time you have the exclamation points you can just use that folder or drive to clear them up. I don't know how to do them all at once but usually I just get a few at most. When you are in the device manager just go to update driver on each one and point it to the folder where they are all stored. You do not have to find the exact one because Windows will find what it needs if it is there. You _may_ have to do a restart on them depending on your computer but it doesn't take long. Anyhow just point it to the first level directory of the drive or folder where the drivers are (if the folder is Drivers point it there) there is no need to know the which device is which as I said, Windows handles that automatically. I just don't yet know how to do them all at once or add the drivers to the Windows media which would be really nice! Adding them to the media so that Windows automatically installs them is possible but there are guides for that I will need, it is not like just copying them into a folder of the Windows installer. That would be too easy!!
An additional step to this whole process has come to light in the last week or so. At boot up the nag screen of "Lets finish getting your device setup" or whatever will randomly pop up, even after you have gotten your OS installed with a local account. You have to click the "Remind me" box to get past it. If you go to Notifications and uncheck "Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device..." this seems to get around it for now. What a freaking pain.
I am in an area with patchy internet (middle of the woods). I can log into my laptop just fine on Win 11 with an account logged in and no internet? Are you speculating? After initial setup anyway. I also swapped out hard drives (just playing around, Microsoft does not like Linux lol) and was able to overcome bitlocker without internet on my computer fairly easily? Dumb luck I would imagine... I have made a lot of money getting round these hoops Microsoft wants normal people to jump through, so thx Microsoft for being so forceful with your OS. Seeing how you are a UA-camr, so have you too! Have you read the EULA on your Windows agreement? Microsoft has always owned your computer. You are able to do what they allow. This was a complaint on Win 10 if I remember correctly? Microsoft Is a very bad company. The company was started on stolen software. They been a bully every since. Imagine if Linux had the same support Microsoft forced in the 90's with windows(contracts and whatnot).
