    Good video. I talked to the Horl people at a knife fair in Albacete in Spain last year. Though I use whetstones for kitchen knives and lately the KME for folding knives, I did like their system. Of course, the angle will vary a bit on blades with a strong curve, but I felt confident enough to recommend it to a friend, he bought it and seems happy with it.
    The Horl 2 is the one to get.

      I've seen both, but have seen more tumbler. It's not bad and I've had zero issues with the magnets on the Tumbler. Just as strong as the Horl. I got the Tumbler and bro got the Horl. It's a moot point. As far as the Tumbler knife.. mine did not come with one. That said, both sharpeners will have issues with knives like that. Just place the handle on a cutting board to raise the blade up higher. I do like the Horl having options to change the stone on the reverse end. That is nice. 👍🏻

      @@BadCo1999the Tumbler is just a rip off of the HORL(which came out 30 years ago). Whereas the Tumbler came out a year ago. Cheaper stones, cheaper magnets, everything is just a cheaper copy. Not worth the $100 it costs plus having to pay for the Strap

      @@Ryan-re1rs it's 3x the cost of a good quality whetstone and cheaper than some much more expensive whetstones. Good quality stones cost money, this takes two stones and puts them into a highly convenient form factor. Not only that, but things made out of solid wood with some precision (the bearing doesn't wobble and is concentric with the wood) manufacturing do cost money.

    Ok so are the planetary gears for the like 3 to 1 ratio and better build worth the extra 200? Idk I just have lots of knives and little time..... I can sharpen knives but its time and mess I already dont have time or a space for. I ordered one today and im hoping it can just speed things up because everything else other than stones is absolute garbage.

    I could be wrong, but the HORL 2, which you linked, does not come with all the interchangable discs, those are.aold separately. The HORL PRO 2 may have some extra discs, but I'm unsure on that as I don't see that listed, but @$429 dollars vs $189 dollars, what else could that be!!

    Thank you! I rather get the one that works than the knockoff.

    I have the gen 3 wicked edge system. I will stick with that. These two systems only allow two bevel angles. Meaning you would really most likely be re-profiling your knife the first time you used this system.

    Great info, thanks dude! Also, I have 1000/500 sharpening stones for my kitchen knives... can I use them for my pocket knife?

      I use the same 180/500/1000/3000/6000 stones for my folders, fixed blades and stainless + carbon steel kitchen knives. No problems.

  • @iceman5117
    @iceman5117 Рік тому +1

    These are better for large knives than fixed angle systems like kme or worksharp. Once you get to the outer limits of the pivot angle, you get unstable edge geometry

      On my Lansky I have three clamps that I need to use on large knives because of that problem. Takes a bit longer to get the clamps aligned properly and of course moving from clamp to clamp when moving along the blade isn't super fast either. Still works well.

    Doesn’t the size of the knife change the sharpening angle?

      On the knives that it works best on, just as good because it puts the scratch pattern exactly how you want it, with a flat stone

    Man I wished I saw this video before I bought the tumbler. I purchased my tumbler in the middle of June and sharpened 3 knives. As of today 8/26/23 the tumbler doesn't spin at all.

      Exactly... my stones cost like 30 dollars in total and it's super easy to sharpen any knife with them.

    So what’s the best way to sharpen your knife if the knife is too tall for the roller?

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  7 місяців тому

      If it's to tall you just stack a book or cutting board under so you can get more height with the roller, otherwise freehand or fixed angled

      You just use a book or cutting board like shown in video, watch my work sharp rolling sharpener
