I am completely in awe of you. Your mind, your eloquence, your humility, and - I cannot deny - how radiantly beautiful you are. I could literally sit with rhubarb gin and listen to you talk forever.
I totally agree with this as an English person I do have one thing to add I do remember how kate was treated when she first joined the family - now she is loved by the press but initially the media painted her as a gold digging commoner who parents were capitalising on the wedding. They seemed to drop this narrative shortly before Megan came into the picture and then pitted them against each other, and claimed to love kate all along. So if you want a real comparison of treatment - I reckon compare the early days of Kate to the early days of Meg to pick up the differences and nauces. Because boy did they hate kate and pippa
I agree, they hated Kate until they realised they could use her image against Meghan - basically, the media hated change and anyone 'other' being associated with the family, and Meghan, being the newer one, as well as very American, biracial, and not brought up in a similar way/going to the elite schools etc. all made her more of a target for the press when she came around
@@gdjwarren2 that would be nearly impossible. Considering Megan herself is only half black. Adding in a white man definitely reduced the color even being light skinned

The inbreeding is not really alleged, it's pretty well documented. They are all related to each other all over Europe. Oh and let's not forget they are German.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are 2nd or 3rd cousins through Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria has decendants in each European royal house. Edit: So I searched it up because I wanted to check, and Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are actually BOTH 2nd and 3rd Cousins. They are 2nd cousins once removed through King Christian IX of Denmark and 3rd cousins through Queen Victoria since they are both her great-great-grandchildren.
It was a literal plan of Victoria and Albert they set down in print. Which I find tragi comedy in that within a generation they were at war. Also after situations like the Habsburgs, Ptolmies and so many other royal lineages that inbred themselves into freefall that's the last thing a monopoly...sorry institution...sorry... family would want.

You have read too much tabloid gossip about this girl and translated them into facts.
Imo, Harry was probably plotting to leave the family for a while. He was just waiting for the right time to do it. And his wife presented him with the perfect opportunity. Who knows, he probably would've stayed inside the royal lifestyle, but I guess he saw how it was affecting Meghan and he didn't wanna see the same thing happen to her, that happened to Diana. Right! Even if you're getting with a famous, wealthy, or even royal person, you have no way of knowing what married life with them will be like until it happens, especially if their family is hellish. I've heard countless stories of abusers not showing who they really were until after they got a ring on the victim's finger. I'm not implying anything about Harry so much as I am talking about the monarchy and media. Still, you never know how things will end when you're still at the beginning. As an American, I had no idea that Britain and the British media are as judgmental and downright racist as they are. I remember thinking "So what? He's marrying a black woman, whoop dee doo!" (not how I think now, but I was a lot less educated then and I have way more understanding and empathy now). I never realized that their marriage was actually a huge deal for Britain, and how upset the media there was over it. I'd be willing to say there was no way Meghan could know how brutal and bad it would be.
I've been watching "Adam Ruins Everything" videos, and it's truly frightening how so much false information gets pushed at us all the time. Lies and propaganda influence our whole culture. And it's the same with Harry and Meghan. I think they're both regular, kind hearted people, but media has managed to demonize them.

The same thing happened with the British press when Princess Diana was in a relationship with Dodi Fayed, he was of Egyptian origin, brown, an Arab Muslim, and the theory that she might have been pregnant with Dodi's child when she died might have been the last straw!
Diana and Dodi had been dating for at most, six weeks when they died. This comment makes no sense for several reasons. The press went wild over Dodi because he was from a famous family--his father owned Harrod's, which was THE name in luxury shopping (Fun fact, though less relevant to the British public at the time too, but Dodi was also first cousins, through his mother, with the late Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi). However, in the two years prior to her death, Diana had been dating a Pakistani Muslim heart surgeon named Hasnat Khan, and at one point, discussed marriage with him but he balked at the media attention. They split up in June of 1997 and Diana started dating Dodi in July 1997. Hasnat has gone on record saying that Diana took her contraceptive pills religiously, up to the time they ended their relationship. If she got with Dodi in July, and died at the end of August, it really seems like a HUGE stretch for her to quit taking her pills, have her cycle regulate itself again, and get pregnant all within the span of 6-8 weeks. Even if she had been pregnant, I doubt she would have known herself, let alone the royal family.

Being mixed myself, I've had to put up with how weird and fixated people can be about my background. Even to the point of being a sexual fetish for some. So I imagine the pressure is way worse for a public figure like Meghan Markle. Like most don't even realise that it's kinda rude to ask in a casual first meeting, which parent is not white, and where they were born, until I point it out. Because they certainly feel uncomfortable if I ask where were their parents/grandparents born etc, so why should it be diffirent for me. "We take being wrong too seriously"...Thank you! I really enjoy your videos so much. This is scholarship! I loved your final thoughts on how we carry racism and anti-blackness with us. As a disabled person, I constantly struggle with ableism in my own brain.
I was hesitant to dive into a video of this length, but you are SO enjoyable to watch. Time really flies by when watching your videos. I appreciate you.
I'm really liked and agree with your sentiment at the end: we all have biases and issues; no one is "unproblematic". I think there's this thing where people who are systemically discriminated against don't note their own non-systemic discrimination against other people (an example could be a black person discriminating against an Asian person, perpetuating stereotypes, etc.) as... important, I think I'll put it that way. But, yes, socialisation brought us all up so everyone has things they have to deal with. And that's alright. In my humble opinion. Another thing I saw in another video was a lack of sympathy/empathy for Meghan because she is a light-skinned and biracial and rich. Sometimes, I am concerned by the lack of empathy people have towards others because they have one privilege or the other. Everyone is human and can go through things and invalidating someone else's experience because they are in one socio-cultural-economic group of the other is simply not okay. And not because we all have some privilege (e.g. I'm able-bodied), but because it just is not. Not saying to excuse people - just to not forget to humanize them. For instance, cyber-bullying a person who has been exposed for racist statements is not okay. Sending death threats is not okay, no matter what anyone does. In my humble opinion. I'm new to this channel and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you and I hope you are having a lovely day.
so true. I saw someone says on TV "I can't sympathize with their problems, there are rich and priviledged". How an unsensitive thing to say about someone with suicidal ideation...
Maybe the problems people are having with this couple rests in the fact that, throughout the interview, they twisted things - sometimes to the point of outright lying - to fit the “truth” of their narrative (I.e. that they had to get out for their sanity’s sake because of racism) ...yet, as they said this, they also said that, if the RF had just given them what they wanted (and what they wanted had nothing to do with problems of racism and everything to do with titles and money and entitlement) they’d never have left in the first place. 🤔 Seen from this vantage point, the racism claims appear as nothing more than a convenient hitching post/smoke screen for this couple’s selfishness and immaturity ...made all the worse by airing their complaints on prime time.
Its kinda eerie how similar the UK public's response to the meghan and harry interview is to their response to the Diana interview...I found it super interesting that you brought up that after Diana's death William and Harry were now held very dear by the public, and i think that is part of the reason they are so mad that Harry left, Amber Ruffin put it best "He'd rather be her husband than their prince and they can't stand it"
It's interesting that this is the viewpoint from across the pond however it's not really accurate at all. After Diana did her interview the public were very much on Diana's side, there were some people who didn't agree with her airing out the Royal families business but majority of the public and press were in her favour. After that interview Prince Charles was told to end their separation with divorce as the relationship was untenable by that point. William and Harry have always been loved and held dear by the public. Their milestones have always been reported in the British press. It was because of the British outpouring of grief and sympathy for those children and Diana why she received a state funeral as the current prime minister thought anything less would be permanently damaging to the monarchy ( not that they didn't care , but their idea was that it should be a private affair for the family) Don't get me wrong there are racist people in the UK and some people did not like her because of her ethnicity , but to be fair when I first saw a picture if her I thought she was Latin American, so I doubt most white people in the UK twigged she was mixed until the press started to talk about her in the news. The biggest issue that people had after the announcement of their engagement was the age difference and the fact that she has been divorced and to cap it all off some people thought the relationship moved too fast (allegedly his brother thought so too), so I think the idea if her being a gold digger was an issue. To be fair after Harry called out the press for some of the racist innuendo reporting that pretty much stopped. The vast majority of Brits who enjoyed their wedding and were excited to see what they could bring to the country , this all happend post Brexit so for alot of people it gave some hope as to the direction we were heading in particular with indicating that the Commonwealth would play a bigger role in the future of Britain. For those who supported them it did feel like a kick in the teeth, however being a working royal is a big sacrifice and if you're not able , willing or capable of working under so much spotlight and critique it's unfair to force anyone to make that sacrifice. They did what was best for them and most reasonable brits after the announcement came to terms with that. What riled some people was the subsequent interviews which some saw as hypocrisy. PS I feel like there is also this desire that people ( US imparticular) want to draw comparisons between them and Edward and Wallis Simpson but without fully understanding the real reason the government imparticular thought it was unsuitable. Edward as well as Wallis were known Nazi sympathiers ( the couple actually toured Nazi Germany after their wedding in France) and supported many of Hitlers ideaolgies , there is significant and plausible evidence that Hitler was planning to use Edward as a way to continue his expansion into Europe, He had already leaked several state secrets the idea of a future king, supporting a force that we previously had been at war. with ( in WW1) was incredibly unpalatable. In a country at the time when everyone went to church on a Sunday and where if he had received his coronation Wouldham been the head of the church of England exposing that his fiance was a divorcee was the less of two evils compared to him giving up the keys to the country to Hitler.
Princess Diana was always loved by British people. Charles not so much, he's been seen as a bit of a weirdo or geek, not relatable in the slightest. So when the interview came out he was seen as the villain. The Crown captured it really well. Also, I've found the press reporting of Meghan and Harry don't accurately reflect public opinion. People I talk to seem to dislike them because they've "bailed" and shouldn't have left the UK, they're "snowflakes". Most people don't care as much as the press want them too. Younger people sympathise more with the couple because mental health is more open and talked about. Older people think they should have "put up and shut up" with all the nastiness being spouted by the press, they shouldn't be doing all these interviews if they want a quiet life. Older people and a certain type of traditionalist are the ones who are hurt by Meghan. I find it weird how some sexist working class non educated males are annoyed by Meghan
Let‘s be honest, Meghan never had a fighting chance. It’s not that she wasn‘t ready for her role as a duchess, it’s that Britain wasn‘t and isn‘t ready for her. She seems lovely, honestly - I‘m just glad she got out of royalty and that Harry is so supportive. Mental health is important as hell

First all: i love you Khadija! I completely agree regarding the word racist. A lot of (white) people believe that racism means using the n word and lynching and are hyper sensitive to the use of the word. Hence they are more offended about being called racist than actually looking inwards into their actions

@@meganwillby477 and right on cue, here comes "not all white people". I was responding to and agreeing with OP, who, if you'll notice, was careful to include the bracketed qualifier "a lot of", PRECISELY because there was bound to be a bright spark in the comments just waiting to jump up and complain about how THEY aren't like that and therefore that makes it unreasonable to make any observations based on our own experiences as actual POC, no matter how frequent these encounters may have been in our lives. If you individually are able to take feedback on racially problematic statements or actions in good spirit, (though your inability to refrain from having a knee jerk reaction in this case would seem to belie that claim just a little) then that's great and I encourage you to keep that same energy and share it with your peers. But maybe rethink how hard you feel the need to signal your enlightenment at the expense of being able to comprehend when you don't need to insert yourself into something that you yourself are claiming isn't about you. To her last point: I've started saying someone has Racist Tendencies or Behaviors to avoid essentialism. Essentialism is very dehumanizing and also implies a lack of nuance or ability to change. Calling someone racist immediately makes them defensive and they shut down instead of examining their behavior.
I’ve been working on this as well. Not even with just racism-but all the other -isms. Sometimes, I’ll try hard to swallow down my anger, and give them the benefit of the doubt. Rather than calling them an -ist or -ic, I’ll say that what they’ve done and/or said was -ist or -ic. Its really hard, though, I’ll admit.
I've found that even when you say racist tendencies these same people will still get defensive because they've only hear the first word and are looking introspectively at what you're trying to say or educate them one.

She got victimised CONSTANTLY in the press until she gave them their fairytale princess wedding fantasy and started popping out heirs. They called her "Waity Katie" for YEARS because they said she would put up with anything to get William's ring on her finger and considered her family to be social climbers. Honestly it surprised me a bit that W+K would be so unsupportive of H+M considering what they themselves went through. Go to www.laineygossip.com and look through the royals archives. It was a pretty interesting parallel that every time Epstein / Andrew got heated, there'd be some anti-Meghan BS headlines that screamed out. (BTW, she is THE best resource for following this royal drama.)
They were in my country so I had to learn about what they did to my people. I was 9 when the queen came to TNT. The school children had to lined the streets to wave to her. I told my mom I did not want to meet her. I told mom that they don’t care about us so why should I want to see her? I was a very intuitive child. I know she was not fooling anybody.
What has also really disturbed me that I just found out about is that the bag of mold that is Piers Morgan has been bashing Meghan in the press for years because he's salty that she didn't date him! They went out for drinks ONCE and then she met Harry and fell in love and he got mad that she didn't pick his nasty ass. Your laugh is so beautiful. Excellent video, covered a lot of stuff I'm actually not super familiar with, like I kind of skipped out on the royal wedding coverage several years ago.
I think that Diana's death was a turning point for Britain she is in the subconscious of the modern British identity, I wasn't even born when she died but the impact of her death on all the older people in my life is something quite emotional. But yeah our distrust with the Royal Family was caused by her death and now this whole thing with Meghan and Harry. Fuck I even still cry a little about Diana.
We're Middle Eastern and Latino in my family, and my mom & aunts mourned her like a sister. It's incredible how Diana touched the world, but especially women who saw themselves in her.
Swear Diana and Meghan are the only ones I can say I like. The rest I either don’t have an opinion on because I don’t know much about them (though Harry seems ok) or I just don’t give a shit about them.
I’m watching you from Brazil, I discovered your channel just yesterday, but already have watched many videos. You are amazing!!! Ps: I can’t believe I only an hour ahead of you
The end of the video is my favorite part. The real ness of people just needing to say sorry and move forward. And the argument that some people don’t want an apology does not negate you from apologizing! Whether someone accepts your apology or not is not the point of apologizing and admitting wrong doing. I’m obsessed with your channel girl and I love it
I have been stalking her channel waiting to hear her views on this one....in all honesty I am torn..... there are so much things at play here and I think most people aren't being completely objective on the issue .....cant wait!!!!
The best assessment of this whole drama. I want to see in our life time the dismantling of the oldest, fucked up colonial thieving useless empire. The prestige around this whole family boggles the mind in the 21st century.

I totally agree with this as an English person I do have one thing to add
I do remember how kate was treated when she first joined the family - now she is loved by the press but initially the media painted her as a gold digging commoner who parents were capitalising on the wedding.
I don't think Kate copped the same level of vitriol as Meghan, but yes, they were nasty to her too.
Kate is a whole white woman
god the british media really hated anyone who isnt white & rich af, dont they?
I agree, they hated Kate until they realised they could use her image against Meghan - basically, the media hated change and anyone 'other' being associated with the family, and Meghan, being the newer one, as well as very American, biracial, and not brought up in a similar way/going to the elite schools etc. all made her more of a target for the press when she came around

He's marrying a black woman, whoop dee doo!" The same thing happened with the British press when Princess Diana was in a relationship with Dodi Fayed, he was of Egyptian origin, brown, an Arab Muslim, and the theory that she might have been pregnant with Dodi's child when she died might have been the last straw!
And they considered that as a threat to the "whiteness" of the crown.
BS fantasy.
Diana died cause she got into a car with a drunken driver and didn’t put her seat belt on.

Thank you for voicing what I think every video. I need her skin care routine, stat.
She literally glows... It's infuriating lol
"We take being wrong too seriously"...Thank you! I really enjoy your videos so much. This is scholarship! I loved your final thoughts on how we carry racism and anti-blackness with us. As a disabled person, I constantly struggle with ableism in my own brain.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Thank you for this!!!!
You are so right. Thank you for this 🙏
Maybe the problems people are having with this couple rests in the fact that, throughout the interview, they twisted things - sometimes to the point of outright lying - to fit the “truth” of their narrative (I.e. that they had to get out for their sanity’s sake because of racism) ...yet, as they said this, they also said that, if the RF had just given them what they wanted (and what they wanted had nothing to do with problems of racism and everything to do with titles and money and entitlement) they’d never have left in the first place. 🤔
Seen from this vantage point, the racism claims appear as nothing more than a convenient hitching post/smoke screen for this couple’s selfishness and immaturity ...made all the worse by airing their complaints on prime time.
@@JQGLOVER agreed and agreed.

Yup. Us white people ammarite.

Hasn't she always dated white men?
Tbh it’s pretty accurate until the hypnosis part.
Ooo okay, we love Posh Khadija
maybe it wasn't the point of the piece, but your little tangent at the end about 'you're not as good as you think you are' is actually incredibly comforting. i have a lot of social paranoia/anxiety about public perception and it's nice to hear the reminder that everyone is imperfect, and that we all have the ability to hold ourselves accountable and grow intellectually. anyway great video! I was literally just asking my girlfriend yesterday what the hell the royal family even does.
I love your videos, they're a wonderful balance of storytelling, reflection and food for thought!
First all: i love you Khadija!
I completely agree regarding the word racist. A lot of (white) people believe that racism means using the n word and lynching and are hyper sensitive to the use of the word.
Hence they are more offended about being called racist than actually looking inwards into their actions
Right! They go automatically into mega-defense mode, like telling them that this particular thing they did or said was racist or racially insensitive means you're lumping them in with the KKK and the Nazis. Like, calm down, there's layers to this. No one is accusing you of currently owning slaves, boo.
@@Hawkmoon1981 as a white person i would be more than happy to be corrected if i said anything that offended you racially. If you had one particular experience with one person who you corrected and they reacted badly and “went into mega-defence mode” they are obviously not acting accordingly but you can’t apply that to every white person because i know that i would be more than willing to listen and for you to correct me. We don’t think anyone is accusing us of owning slaves, boo
Boo.
people of colour can be racist too
@@detectivedaffodil437 no one said they can't lmao what
To her last point: I've started saying someone has Racist Tendencies or Behaviors to avoid essentialism. Essentialism is very dehumanizing and also implies a lack of nuance or ability to change. Calling someone racist immediately makes them defensive and they shut down instead of examining their behavior.
Well, they need to chill and consider the possiblity.
Thank you so much for this video 🙌🙌

@@nouchireiss2223 easy, the royal family would of sued her after that interview, but they didn't instead gave some shitty statement saying they never realised how hard it was them. Where’s the proof. Making allegations of racism without proof is wrong.
And if the family was harboring a racist why didn’t M&H speak about it before now.
Only after they didn’t get what they wanted from monarchy do the say it’s racist.

Hey Auntie!! Could you possibly make a video essay discussing the adultification of black children in schools if you haven't already?
I remember when william first started dating kate, the press -specifically the paparazzi- was vile towards her. It was all misogyny. And I knew the second that meghan was dating harry that the press would be worse. The misogynoir was transparent. The way the press have been constantly attacking her and trans people these past few years has been vile. And all this I say as an anti-royalist, which is something I get looked down on for on terf island.
Maybe they were just glad to no longer be the ones under fire - Kate has definitely reaped the benefits of the press comparisons and has become the angel/ perfect princess in the narrative.
And class-ism. Never forget the Class-ism.
"William married a commoner!" As the news and tabloids would run. Kate wasn't a princess - like with four to nine imperial families left in the world she wasn't going to be - but for f-sake she wasn't ya girl down the road. Her family is minted and stupidly interconnected in UK politics and economics. She was as close enough. Meghan generally challenged several "suitability" markers. There was always gonna be trouble with the Firm.
Love the Philosphy Tube ref haha💙
They must have kissed her ass the minute she married William because compared to Meghan, she practically got the royal treatment. I wouldn’t be surprised.

What has also really disturbed me that I just found out about is that the bag of mold that is Piers Morgan has been bashing Meghan in the press for years because he's salty that she didn't date him!
@Tabo Beeran it sounds really fucking sad that basically our entire nation cares about this one woman so much....but she's special
My family and my mother specially mourned Princess D. We are Middle Eastern /African with no British identity whatsoever. Her death was a tragedy.
