Amy’s post that said “I supported black people so you have to support Israel” took me all the way out. That post shows exactly how people like Amy operate: they think human rights advocacy is social currency through and through. She missed the memo. Human rights are sacred things, not points on a scoresheet for you to pull out, point to, and say “I’m a good noodle, I said black people shouldn’t be taken out for existing.” Bare minimum is what that is, not a special tick on the box of social justice. Been over Amy

That's honestly what we get for calling for people to be "allies". The definition of an ally in most cases does require mutual benefit. I have said this for many years: I don't want allies...I want advocates only. Advocates simply believe in something regardless of mutual benefit because it feels right to them. Allies will stand with you, but eventually expect you to stand with them (even if what they are standing for is oppression).

Amy: "Saying I'm islmaphobic is crazy. I want peace"
Also Amy: "You are antisemitic because I say so and I am Jewish and don't require any evidence of you actually being antisemitic"
Supporting Palestinians not dying is not automatically antisemitic and I need people with brains to understand this.

I think people also forget that using antisemitism as a blanket statement for being anti this war, is exactly the augment that both the Israeli and US government use so that they can continue with it without fear of argument. I also think people forget that being Palestinian is not a religion (there are Jewish Palestinians).

I understand what having dangerous animosity with a neighbor is like (both sides in the case at hand are being violent). But hurting kids through starvation, is a tactic that should never be taken in the modern world. Truly disgusting.

I wish these celebs would look up the terms "semite" and "semitic." I think they'd be surprised that it refers to Arabs, too. Amy is all like "I have a point" while simultaneously not understanding terms she uses. I guess that's predictable from people like her, which in turn confuses everyone who follows her train of thought. Same goes for all these people in higher positions.

As a mixed race Palestinian-American, I grew up learning about Palestine and Israel in ways that many people do not. Baby me was at protests with my parents, holding up my little Free Palestine sign. These protests had like 20 people at them. So when I look at the way people are mobilizing for Palestinians, it’s hard for me to completely convey my absolute gratitude and yes, shock, that this many people care and are educating themselves about the situation. Especially to all the Jewish people coming out and saying, “not in our name…” that shit brings me to tears. So thank you to everyone who cares. It means the world to us. You definitely hit the nail on the head with what is bothering me about some Jewish people’s response to this. I condemn Hamas’s October 7th attacks. They are indefensible. But as you said, now it’s 10K dead Palestinians and rising. When Jews complain that no one is helping them and they aren’t being centered, I have to say, when the hell have Palestinians ever been centered? This is literally the first time! Ever! Many Jewish people seem unable to hold multiple concepts at once. And I know it comes from a place of fear, anger and suffering. But they don’t hold the monopoly on fear, anger and suffering. Ask any Palestinian, Black person, queer or trans person, immigrant, Indigenous American, Japanese survivor of an internment camp, the list goes on and on. We all suffer. And as you said, no one is free until we are all free. Israel cannot be safe until Palestinians are safe. You cannot heal trauma by inflicting more trauma. Many thanks to you and all you do. ❤

What makes Amy's messages against Asia Jackson even more heinous and harrowing is that Asia and her mother are specifically Ibaloi. An ethnicity part of an indigenous ethnic group in the Philippines that have faced discrimination by the state. And a large part of that discrimination being that we (I'm also Ibaloi) were not assimilated during the Spanish colonization period. I want to point this out because I've seen pro-Israeli people use indigeneity for their side, but when Indigneous people like Asia Jackson, Quannah Chasinghorse, and other indigenous people are pro-Palestine, something is off.

Historically, our current reality isn't darker than previous years. I think that it feels like it is darker because of how instantaneous news is now. There's more injustice out in the open than there was in the past, amplifying the awareness of it in our social consciousness.
I went to a rally yesterday in support of a ceasefire. While I was there, part of me felt discouraged. I wondered what was even the point of protesting, demanding change. But then I looked around. And I was surrounded by hundreds of people supporting the Palestinian people. And that is remarkable. I have never seen that level of support before when it comes to the oppression of the Palestinian people.
I am a historian and a history teacher. The genocide and war that is happening right now is dark and ugly and horrific. But the number of people around the world who are demanding peace for this conflict is unprecedented. There is more light than there is darkness.

I'm an anarchist from Israel. This video means a lot. I feel guilty and helpless all the time, and pretty much have to shut up about it, as most Israelis are leaning toward Amy Schumer 's ideology . The amount of times I heard the sentence "you know I'm a leftist, but..." this past month is both enraging and depressing. So, seeing others from around the world, from different groups, understanding the deep meaning of solidarity and common struggles is pretty much what keeps me - I wouldn't say sane, but not completely out of it, when I wake every morning to a scarier, cruel new number of dead children 😔

As a neurodivergent person who needs accommodations in school, I remember reading about a protest that people with disabilities had via sit-in and the black panthers were there in solidarity and did things like making sure they had access to food and basic amenities so they were able to continue their sit-in touched my soul. That is collectivism. That is solidarity. That is friendship and that is honorable. And there is so much that connects all those who are marginalized. You are so right when you say looking after and ensuring at risk people to a feeling and reality of safety will really raise the bar for everyone as a whole.

Yeah dude, I'm AuDHD and I've seen some shit lol. Social impact of disabilities definitely has a long way to go compared to the great strides made for physical disabilities, but we're not being murdered so much in the grand scheme of things so we're probably not top priority lol.
Although I still get mad at society sometimes - because even well meaning people often do their damnedest to infantilize and segregate us in the name of "accommodations"
For example: there was this lady who put a flyer in my workplace advertising an autism safe prom they were doing. I appreciate the concern, but sweet jesus no one in their right mind would ever say "we noticed this building is hard to get to, so we're going to just have a separate prom for all the wheelchair users, isn't that cute 🥰" BITCH. BUILD. A. FUCKING. RAMP.
It's not even that hard to do. Have a couple sensory cool down rooms available, don't put the music at a volume that causes permanent hearing damage (ffs 80db shouldn't be your starting point anyway 🙄)(and even if you do a stupid and have the music that loud, just make it retreatable from), and don't be a dick if someone shows with sensory aids, human aides, or for less time than the whole event.
We are not the problem, society refusing to tolerate micro-accommodations is the problem.

I keep trying to tell people that this war isnt about religion or terrorism, its about money. More specifically, oil and gas.
In 2019, the UNCTAD released a study on the unrealised potential of palestinian oil and gas reserves in the occupied palestinian territories, including reserves along the Mediterranean coast of Gaza.
In October this year, Israel granted 12 licences for oil and gas exploration along the Mediterranean coast.
On a totally unrelated note, just this year Infosys, the company founded by Rishi Sunak's father-in-law, signed a $1.5 billion energy deal with BP, one of the companies granted oil and gas licence by Israel.
The reason why israel gets so much support from western media is because they are all complicit in profiteering off palestinian suffering. Just as they are complicit in suffering in the DRC, Sudan, and every other impoverished nation that has resources to be extracted

(At the behest of those of us who actually care about the human lives being destroyed, and the bonds between the truly marginalised and those more or less so, but allies nonetheless.) Then there's the many people with ulterior motives, like antisemites hiding behind the tired old facade of "it's antisemitic not to support these war crimes" as they lean _toward_ antisemitism and try to grab some normies along the way to ease them into it too. There's a _lot_ of disinformation going on, different folks & groups using this conflict as ammunition for their "causes", most of them with actually zero care for anyone involved, but for some it's easy to lie if it means influence, money, & power.

Jewish people are not perfect victims. Horrendous acts of anti-semitism have been committed against them, but they have also persecuted Palestinians. We expect victims to be perfect and innocent, and when they aren't, we don't believe they were ever victims (being a woman, this is a lived experience for sure). If Israelites and people from the Jewish diaspora admit that atrocities have been committed against Palestinians by their own people, then others might say the holocaust wasn't that bad (or deny it happened). They could say the acts of anti-semitism proliferating around the world are deserved or not worth stopping. That's the fear I see

The point you made about elites wanting to make sure every oppressed group fights each other instead of focusing on them is so real. It's so easy to point fingers and place blame on one other individually while missing the bigger picture. We're all getting screwed by this late stage capitalist world in some way shape or form. More and more of us are starting to wake up, but we just have to continue to be persistent in making sure we workout our empathy muscles. Especially during times like this. We owe it to each other.
I also wanna add that saying Palestinians don't deserve to be literally murdered is not a controversial take, nor should be looked at as one. Seeing our government use all this "Israel has the right to defend itself" rhetoric has been frustrating. But I'm trying my best to focus that frustration into action and continue to spread the word about what's going on while also educating myself. Doing the work is not easy, and it does require breaks. It's still better than what some of these celebs and influencers like Amy continue to do.

Yes! And keep that in mind when police are turned against communities and vice-versa. Over 95% of the time when a person is killed in an encounter, the police are following the policy to the letter. But instead of (correctly) getting mad at policymakers and politicians, we focus on the police who are generally not that much more wealthy/powerful than the communities they are policing. If you have a problem with police policies (which I do, I’m a firm believer in “8 can’t wait”, and open to further changes if that proves inadequate) then go after the politicians that make those policies!

Make no mistake, this is the Middle East and some very violent ideas can be seen as legitimate here, so vetting your sources carefully and bare witness to the events of October 7th, as well as to the horrors that followed in the Gaza strip. @@LJ508 I meant in GENERAL. Not specifically on the conflict. I know it's From the River Jordan to the Mediterranean sea. I know that while we all call it the Middle East it's actually the Near East because the middle east is India. I know the Zionist project was supported by the Nazis (Hitler loved it), and evangelical Christians in the US and UK who believed that "establishing Israel/Zion" would hasten Armageddon and the end of the world. I know it was also a means for European countries and the US to shove Jewish people out of their communities in those countries (where they belonged just as much as anyone else there) because of their own antisemitism. I know there were plenty of Jewish and Christian Palestinians already in Palestine many of whom were working together at all levels of life and community just fine. I know a lot of the tension was stirred up by the UK not keeping it's nose OUT where it didn't belong and asserting white supremacist colonizing bullshit literally everywhere. I have watched for years videos of Palestinian Muslims being verbally and physically abused by settled colonials who are taking their houses. This didn't start October 7th and I didn't JUST start paying attention then either.
Israel should not exist. Not because Jewish people don't deserve homes... But because we should have NEVER driven them from the homes they already had here in white global north countries. They should always have been safe here, in our communities, where they had try to settle and make lives for themselves. Or if they were to live in Palestine they should live in Palestine. Like other Palestinian Jews. Not taking over and displacing people from their homes and committing a literal genocide funded by the US and UK with US weapons while using their own experience on the receiving end of a genocide (that is rapidly leaving living memory - unlike the Nakba and this) as a flimsy defense for settler colonialism and reinforcing white supremacy and the US Empire.

I love your videos! I wanted to add a little bit to the conversation, victimhood and persecution should not be carte blanche to just do whatever you want, and you should still adhere to justice even if you did not experienced it in your moment of need because of the principle implied in it, that you are willing to do better. One of the reasons that I find intersectionality as a theory so hard for people to grasp in practice is because we only want to acknowledge how we can be disenfranchised by collective history, economics or family trauma, but we rarely come to terms for our own capacity for power and how we can misuse it. We are also collectively very much into the idea that power sits lineally, when in reality there are different levels to power and there are different ways to access it, and the whole idea that we can be both oppressed and the opressor scares us because it radically undermines the concept of our goodness and even to an extent our victimhood.

Why do you think liberal European countries are suddenly able to turn face and propose laws banning immigrants who don’t swear fealty to Israel? I am soooo tired of two lines of rhetoric from this last month:
    1. Being against the actions of Israel is antisemitic &
    2. Being queer means you have to be pro-Israel because Israel is nicer to queer people.
Multiple realities can exist at once, Oct 7 can be & was horrifying and wrong, Hamas could have a not great LGBTQIA+ record and that can be & is horrifying and wrong, AND it can STILL be wrong to indiscriminately bomb a population that is 50% children. They’re not mutually exclusive, and it’s a super weird bit of rhetoric to insist that being against the mass killing of civilians necessitates that you’re pro-Hamas, that you condone Oct. 7th or the poor treatment of queer people, or that you’re antisemitic.
Like please, stop trying to box me in to the position where I “have to” accept these things as justification for apartheid, siege & genocide. That’s bananas & there’s no galaxy in which you will find me fixing my internet thumbs to say “well, their government that hasn’t held an election in 16 years sucks and so it’s fine what Israel is doing, actually”.
And another thing is just that the entitlement from Israel & its supporters is just full on shocking tbh. Like they are truly shocked and appalled that the UN & the world, really, weren’t just like “oh well yeah, do whatever you want! It’s totally fine that you’re using genocidal rhetoric and planning the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza!” Like WE are the ones who are divested from reality because we say that actually, we don’t think it’s okay that you’ve killed thousands of children in a matter of weeks and we want you to stop. It truly blows my mind daily to see the official Israel account on X day in and day out throwing narratives at the wall like spaghetti to see what sticks as if at some point they will find the perfect angle and everyone will stop being mad at them.
Anyway, I have felt so agitated lately & I’m thankful I stumbled upon your video as a much needed break from Piers Morgan asking everyone and their mother if they condemn Hamas.

It's times like this when I feel that quote "A rising tide lifts all ships" is appropriate when you talked about the accessibility example of ramps originally intended for people with disabilities and how it benefits everyone. No one can be free unless everyone is.
I feel like a lot of this freak out too has to do with the fact that the people who used this (in Amy Schumer's case) marginalization as a shield have to now come to grips with the fact that none of us are innocent when it comes to the indoctrination this world has instilled in us and they now are running out of excuses to avoid doing some work as well. It gives a similar vibe as people in the LGBTQIA+ community who strongly identify with their queerness but then get confronted with the fact that they still have some racist or transphobic/biphobic/etc. ideologies that need to be checked and unlearned.
I think a lot of people hide because we don't want to be seen as bad people, but our brains were wired to conserve energy. Evolutionary wise, the humans who survived all those famines and droughts used shortcuts and developed multiple habits and behaviors on autopilot so they can function. It's not entirely a bad thing otherwise we would hardly function at all, but when people have to unlearn stuff from indoctrination, they have to confront their biology that had already "solved" this thing by having to manually alter things themselves. That takes work. That takes energy. People don't like spending energy (unless they decide the cause matters enough to them but that's the real challenge: convincing people to care enough). So, people will double down in that victimization because, "if I am a victim, I don't have to look at what hand I have in perpetuating this other thing that's oppressing other people."
The work. The *real* work involved in really joining arms in solidarity means having to relinquish a LOT of the comfort as well. It's the same reason why Capitalism is still at large because in order to truly dismantle it, people are going to have to get really fucking uncomfortable and so many people are just....unwilling to do that. They want their mickey dees and coffee and stuff. Amy Schumer wants her contracts and money and comfy nice house. I feel like this is reiterating what you say in the video but I hope I'm making sense lol.
Thank you so much for taking the time and care to do those two years to research. I remember reading up on the Abortion fight in the 70s, with the Young Lords of the New York, Roe Vs Wade, and how white feminists were talking with Black Feminists and how baffled they were that Black Feminists said that affordable housing, protection from police violence, access to good education were also all feminist issues. For the white feminists, it was abortion only and anything else was a distraction. Elaine Brown talked about this a lot.
It’s like it always has to be this one thing and not a comprehensive approach to solving the issues in our societies. Another example is the main fight for gay equality was just marriage and nothing else. Not police violence, discrimination in the work force, hate crimes, none of it, just that once gay marriage was achieved, nothing else mattered.
This video brings up a lot of thoughts,, much more than can be said in one comment.

Turns out abortion was the issue to focus on because then it got taken away because leftist politics was “more important”. So glad black feminists focused on the less important issues instead of silly abortion

I've been paying a bit more attention to like the internet, social media, the attention economy and stuff on that subject, and one thing that keeps coming up is how polarising the internet/social media is, and the current crisis has really highlighted that for me. I think some of us are perhaps in positions where we could be extending more grace to ppl and trying to understand ppl's POVs, and trying to find ways to move forward together.

thank you for your bit about disability activism helping more than just the disabled. i live in tokyo and it's mind boggling how inaccesible the city is. i am not disabled but often use ramps and elevators to roll luggage around. i am often astounded how much more time it takes to find an accessible route if there is one. i have encountered entire stations where there are no elevators or escalators. sometimes you are spit out blocks from your destination because the accessible exit is in a random place. for an aging country it just blows me away. so you end up with full on strollers on escalators, elderly people slowly climbing several flights of stairs (tbh some look frail but are quite robust but that's besides the point) and anyone with low mobility trying their best to be out of the way as the trudge out of the stations.
we need advocates because they help out more than just their own root causes!

Thank you for this video, Khadija. It's such an important point to show up for other injustices and marginalized groups; sometimes it gets so exhausting just existing in your own marginalized group, but we should never let that distract from showing up for others like we want them to show up for us.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
I'm so tired of this human legacy of injustic - we could and should be doing so much better. The people who fight so hard to do so give me hope.

As usual, you have done the homework, academically and spiritually. Thank you so much for your kind approach to this subject!
It's been difficult to know when to speak my mind in certain circles, because I don't want to cause anyone any more pain; however, there are folx out there that don't see the situation as settler colonialism...and that's something that I feel should be challenged.
My own views on Israel have changed a lot over the years, because I didn't grasp things beyond the need for a Jewish homeland, because when you're younger, the way education is in the US is pro-Israeli government, no exceptions. Some years later, I did some research, and examined what the US' agenda was: pumping bajillions of dollars into the Israeli military, to maintain a regional presence for the US military, oil, and a market for US weapons...
Then there's the part of history waaaaay before World War I, when antisemitism was very intense in some countries, to the point of the creation of the Pale of Settlement in the 18th century, and prior to that, flat out expulsion of Jews from certain countries; Spain comes to mind. So ultimately Zionism might have seemed like a path to get Jews out of Europe entirely...which again is expulsion, with people leaving behind the land that possibly several generations lived.
It took some years later to understand that the population that was already living on the land, often for many generations, should have the right to remain there, be it in Europe or the Middle East.
My worry is that once the Israeli military causes Palestinians to flee for their lives, and levels Gaza, they're going to clean it up and open it to new settlers, with zero thought to who the land belonged to without any compensation.
From what I understand, even Israelis can be victimized by their government if they don't happen to be white-appearing; as it turns out, Jewish folx exist in a range of skin tones; and then, economic class is a factor. As it is in nearly every country!
It's so frustratingly sad, sensitive, and upsetting...so many people have already died...we must have a cease fire!!!

2:30 yes already ‼️‼️ when I look at the liberal (and usually white/privileged) ppl in my community, I’ve been getting soooooo frustrated at the ones who are centering themselves over the ones who are most victimized here (Palestinians). And on my end, when I tried to express a liberal neutral compassion to all, I realized that this isn’t actually helpful because it obscures the naming of *who’s suffering most*, and what systems of oppression are causing it ‼️
