Takin in Latin Astra Militarium means “Star Military”. Throws the table over and yeets the chair out the door. “But those of the righteous know its the Imperial Guard!”
@@alphabromega859I hate the new names generally but I mind it less for the faction that has Latin and English for high gothic Vs low gothic, the bureaucrats call them astra militarum, everyone else in the guard calls them the guard
I love Lucas' economical painting style - so few colours, so little blending, but just making really good colour choices for the transitions and well placed brush strokes. I'd love to see a video taking more time to show this painting in action with commentary on the process.
I agree! It always looks great. I suck at blending so I am currently trying to mimic his paint style but without a more lengthy How-to video it is hard to do.
Those vastroyans are an absolute classic, I had a huge unpainted army’s worth and I sold them like 5 years ago, god they would’ve been worth some money now
It would be an amazing series, the two of u making an ab-human astra militarum army, all of it made of ratlings, beastmen, and ogryn, and-or whatever else you could thinkk about
Victoria Miniatures does exactly the quirky Halfling like Ratlings you're talking about. You might wanna take em for a painting spin. They even eat sandwiches and all!
@dontletmebrewthat yup, I had "Grog Ard'Nogg Ogre Veteran" modified, so there are more arm and leg options. So he can be fully bionic, or partially or not at all, use the gun and knife, or Axes, wrenches, hammers etc. Even a two handed minigun. And the 4 heads. It's awesome
They're like... Imperial Grots... I've heard of Ratlings before, but tbh, I thought they were space skaven... didn't know they were like the hobbit Ogryns for IG... The fuq else does IG have that I haven't seen yet?!
Might be my favorite looking paintjob and posing from Emil. Amazing job. Hard to describe, but they look like they should be in a painting instead of on a tabletop!
1:48 is not a Ratling/Space Hafling. It a squat i. e. Space Dwarf. You can see it by the beard, but also by the Rogue Trader era lasgun (this is a hybrid model, plastic arms and gun on a metal body).
Thank you guys for this video. This was inspiration as well as entertaining piece. My nurgle blood bowl guardsmen are already being born. BB has probably the best range of minies 👍
These are great, but the older ones seem to be more fitting. My gripe would be that they're not really fitting in the Guard, but they've time traveled/universe jumped from Fantasy to 40k and just picked up some discarded weapons and equipment. I guess maybe you can say they're from a Feudal World or something like that to explain their garb/usage of pots and pans on their heads. If I could I'd at least change the heads for ones that have helmets/military caps that fit more to the guard aesthetics and maybe use the modeling putty to mold some makeshift flak armor on them.
Can already picture a backstory for these guys. Their world was ravaged by a rogue guard army and a group of five halflings who'd been scavenging in a hab block came across the remains of a cadian regiment that had been slaughtered defending a civilian shelter. Salvaging scraps of armour, weapons even a barely working vox receiver, they set out to help save their world any way they can.
Not sure you read all the comments you really do make some amazing minis and conversions, I think you should make a pub diorama with people fighting in the pub then in the caverns and sewers underneath have covens summoning deamons and skaven creeping about in the shadows maybe vampire in the attic? The possibilities are endless 👍
Hey for anyone curious and okay with Proxies; just last night for me, hours before this video went up, I found from a conpany called "Wargames Atlantic" a new box set from them called the "SneakFeet" under their Death Fields line. It's Legally Distinct Ratlings in plastic and about 32 USD with shipping across the pond for European viewers/readers. And I was curious about getting them but seeing this video definitely pushed me into getting them to go along with my Vostroyans that I kitbashed from their Les Grognards boxset and the Cadians. [EDIT] HEY SO GUESS WHAT GOT ANNOUNCED A MONTH AFTER THIS VIDEO AND MY COMMENT WERE BOTH MADE AND *AFTER* I ALREADY BOUGHT AND MADE MY PROXIES...
what I read about ratlings is that on frontlines with the guardsmen they use SMG like guns. from a distance snipers which is weird cause how big the gun is lol. fantastic diggers an supply hoarders.
Definitely thought about using the blood bowl stuff for 40k proxies, was looking at the two ogre ladies from forgeworld to be ogryns, one as a medic and the other as a commissar 😂
I feel like people who complain about the new imperial guard models being too complicated are the same people who field half painted, unfinished armies. You don’t have to paint it to golden demon standard, especially since they’re just generic line troops. Just block the important colors in, slap some contrast paint on, and come back to it later if need be. But griping about detailed models because they eliminate your excuse to be lazy is silly. Glad this was NOT one of those videos
Normally love Lucas’s painting. This one felt phoned in though. Those little guys don’t read as Cadians at all. I like that Lucas went for a sketch rather than smooth blends. On the table from a meter away, they’ll be great.
I think they are missing some imperial insignias. They need more skulls and aquilas to be read as Imperial Guards. That said, I really like the paintjob.
I really like them I just wish you had been able to do do a helmet conversion. The pots as helmets seem out of place to me. It amazes me how much detail you can get in the painting. Awesome!
I did it the easy way - a couple of boxes of Wargames Atlantic’s Sneakfeet…Yeah, I can’t take them to tournaments, but since I don’t go to tournaments, I don’t care!!
When is your Vallejo paint set being released?! I need a Vallejo refresh and don’t know if it will be close enough release for me to wait! Love all of your videos!

I will be cold in the ground before I call them the "Astra Militarum." They're the Imperial Guard. The planet broke before the Guard did.

It would be an amazing series, the two of u making an ab-human astra militarum army, all of it made of ratlings, beastmen, and ogryn, and-or whatever else you could thinkk about
Ratlings, ogryn and one very confused and annoyed human commissar leading them.

These are the videos that make me come back to this channel every week. You guys are amazing
I can't believe you made us wait 2 weeks for this video and you only painted 2 mimi minis!
No cookies this week for either of you 😂😂
The feet show exactly why i dont like premade bases even as a necromunda player, floating feet is the worst.
man, I really want to see more of this, maybe some even more insane conversions. this looks great
Great work. Love the painterly style you applied. Beautifully expressive
Would love to see the others finished! Great vid!
I have these halflings done for Blitzball and they're some of my favorite models. I love the trouser weasel. Lol.
This video was amazing! I’m really inspired by it, as with all your vids. Keep up the good work

Agreed. They talked about not just adding backpacks and bits and then that's all they really did.
Would be cool for an Abhumans only regiment or something
That is one of the original plastic squats at 1:48.
Love this, inspired and absolutely brilliant.
Though I agree the colour sceme brought it together quiet nicely, I feel it misses some imperial insignia.
These are brilliant! Please complete the kill team soon! I love these derpy guys!

Ratling snipers have been in 40K lore ever since Rogue Trader.
How did you prevent the guitar string from unwinding! :O?
Last I saw of the Ratlings in the lore there were a couple in 2 or 3 Warhammer Crime stories.
