- Note: Click "Show More" for lyrics. Golden Earring are a Dutch rock band, founded in 1961 in The Hague as the Golden Earrings (the 's' was dropped in 1969). They had international chart success with the songs "Radar Love" in 1973, "Twilight Zone" in 1982, and "When The Lady Smiles" in 1984. Current members of Golden Earring are Barry Hay (vocals, guitar, flute and saxophone, member since 1968), George Kooymans (vocals and guitar, founder of band), Rinus Gerritsen (bass and keyboard, founding member), and Cesar Zuiderwijk (drums and percussion, member since 1970). Golden Earring have sold millions of albums worldwide, and they are one of the longest existing rock bands in the world that are still performing today in the same line up.
Radar Love (B. Hay / G. Kooymans)
I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's half past four and I'm shifting gear
When she's lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable comin' in from above
We don't need no phone at all
We've got a thing that's called radar love
We've got a wave in the air, radar love
The radio's playing some forgotten song
Brenda Lee's "Coming On Strong"
The road has got me hypnotized
And I'm speeding into a new sunrise
When I get lonely, and I'm sure I've had enough
She sends her comfort, comin' in from above
Don't need no radio at all
We've got a thing that's called radar love
We've got a line in the sky, radar love
No more speed, I'm almost there
Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care
Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow
And the radio played that forgotten song
Brenda Lee's "Coming On Strong"
And the newsman sang his same song
Ah, one more radar lover's gone
When I'm feeling lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sends the comfort coming in from above
Don't need no radio at all
We got a thing that's called radar love
We got a line in the sky
We got a thing that's called radar love
We got a thing that's called... radar love
It's still on my playlist and I'm 66 now!
42 and its been on mine a good twenty or so years now, god help me if the Coppers see me when it comes on in my car
I'm 67 and never get tired of listening to this.
I am 77 and I never get tired of hearing it either.
I'm 61 and never get tired of singing it!!

One of the greatest songs of all time. One of the best drum beats of all time along with the whole musical arrangement . Simple yet very powerful and awesome.
Thoroughly agree!
I was 13 when this came out. Man I loved this song. Always got me moving even at 63
Sad that they disbanded in 2021, after George Kooymans (vocals/guitar) was diagnosed with ALS. They had stayed together, no replacement members until 2 years ago. Great band!
Same!
What can I say classic of the seventies ❤❤
I'm 58. My favorite Cousin, Diane, back in the 1970's was a little bit older than me so she used to get me alcohol and we hung out a few times and she was always playing Radar Love on her 8 Track Player.in her car. Well, my cousin died shortly thereafter in a Motorcycle accident, and since then, every time I here Radar Love, I think of her. She was so Cool... almost Angelic. Today, Diane's Mother, my Aunt Molly passed away at 88 years old. Aunt Molly was the most religious person that I have ever known, and went to Church most every day for the last 70+ Years to pray for her daughter Diane. Today, I picture their Reunion in Heavern hugging and singing and dancing together to Radar Love. Bless my Cousin Diane and my Aunt Molly in their Reunion in Heaven. I Love You Both!!!
A very heart warming story they are looking down on you. God Bless them both.
Thanks for taking a moment and sharing your thoughts.
Wow
Amen brother! That was touching, I'm glad to share listening to this song with your story in mind. Peace be with them and you and your loved ones
Damn …… rest in peace Molly and poor young Diane. I hope the song brings back great memories for you and isn't too painful.
What a timeless classic!!! I never get tried of hearing it.
👍totally agree this song gets better with age
Love the Earring!!! Audience members aside, Rhythm section, Rinus Gerritsen bass, Cesar Zuiderwijk drums is on fire!🔥
Great Dutch band!!!🇳🇱
They opened up for Lynrd Skynrd in 76. They finished their set with this song. at the end, the drummer leaped over top his kit. They lined up with their arms around each other and bowed. Awesomely memorable
Wow I bet that was some show. Before the Skynyrd plane crash
Thou hast been blessed. F-ing cool memory! My 1st concert was Queen of which I was completely unworthy and deeply blown away. 2nd The Who with the original Pretenders opening just at the release of their amazing and revolutionary 1st album. Such a fertile super great and innovative time in music. So wonderful to share stories with people who know their sh**!
I saw them in a club in Shreveport, LA early 80's. Helluva band!
And he didn’t used to leap one leg at a time, but both feet together springing up in the air? I only ever saw them once, before this came out, but always thought they deserved more recognition.
I saw that tour - great band and great tune. Unfortunately, I think this performance is a lip synced edit of the recording.
This song is not only fantastic, but it has more energy in it than any song I've heard. This song gets you off the couch and on the move.
Great 4 intense video games 2!!
Unless you were in that audience!

As a drummer, give that drummer some love! Damn fine chops.
Amazing band, and an amazing drummer. I saw them in concert at a small club right after the song came out in 1973. They just don’t make groups like this anymore. I’m so glad I grew up in the 60s and 70s in the musical era.
Another drummer in Southeastern Arizona USA agrees! Cheers brutha! Great unforgettable stuff!
Hea ain't bad, but if you wanna hear somebody light a fire on a drum kit, give Dave Mathews' "Say Goodbye" a listen.
Agree agree. The dude gives me Tommy Thayer vibes
All coked up
hats off to the band for such passion in front of a comatose audience. love this song xxx
you can see one girl peeking at the tight pants..lol
Still one of the best cruisin tunes ever. Soooo way ahead of the game. Timeless. The audience have no idea how lucky they are to br in the presence of a legend.
In 1976 I was 18 with a V8 Ford, empty open roads, threadbare speed limits and this on the radio..

@djackman4229 Absolute legends...underrated. Saw them somewhere in '71 or so, might have been Portland, not sure. I had a spot stage right and it was amazing. This was a favorite of mine when I was 9, 10 years old 1970, there was great music coming out seemingly everyday back then. Thanks for the ride to the past.
hallelujah!
A once in a lifetime experience!!! Thank You Golden Earring!!!

Now, THAT, boys and girls, is how a great rock band plays a terrific song - exceptionally tight instrumentally, singer with great moves and physical gestures, and a song that tells a story with a slow developing beginning, rocking middle, and crescendo of an ending. They were truly firing on all cylinders! I mean, how many times have we heard this only classic rock radio - and yet here we all are still digging it! And it's almost 50 YEARS ago! Man, I was just 15 years old - but still rocking now (OK, God can you take your finger off the FF button on the time machine now, LOL).
Today, the singers for Gen X sound like they are on helium and downers.
@@stevenrobert8567 We’re in Gen Z now, grandpa. - sincerely, GEN X
@@kelvyquayo You still have no talented musicians. No one can actually sing. It all sounds like uplifting funeral music.
@@stevenrobert8567 😂. I didn’t say I disagreed with you lol. My hope is in Christ Jesus tho. Nothing in this world has any use for me. Peace
@@stevenrobert8567 as far as I’m concerned.. the world started going downhill when I was 8 and The Challenger broke apart…. That’s when I knew all the adults were full of crap…. and things weren’t going to be “OK” like they claimed.. I also grew up with reoccurring dreams of nuclear bombs because when I was 6 all the parent let their kids watch “The Day After” in 1983.. a hyper realistic nuclear Holocaust made for TV movie…. LOL. Life is awesome
This song is not just a song. It's a hymn!
I got my drivers liscence in 1973. Also, missed an exit on the highway, and got my first speeding ticket in 1973 while listening to this song. giggle
sally santana ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I never got a speeding ticket for this song, but that's only because I didn't get caught. In reality I should be able to turn them into wallpaper. Rock and Roll sister in high speed.
You could have gone to court to fight the ticket and played the song as part of your defense. If I were a judge, I would have thrown the ticket out.
1973 , well it wasn't Radar cop back then , LOL
I'm surprised this doesn't have more views....a true classic.
Looks like they’re playing for the mortuary crowd. An amazing arrangement

Same on every video of a legendary song. Until people have heard the song a hundred times, and connect it with a time or incident in their lives, it’s just “the new song”. There’s a performance of AC/DC performing “Highway to Hell” live before it’s release, and people snooze through it. Now that the song is an icon, they go nuts.
Genius - has been one of theeeee best driving songs ever wrote!! Found it on a rock compilation tape back in early 90's - Caused several moments of a heavy foot on the gas pedal 🙂
I remember being 12 years old and dancing in the driveway with my girlfriends to this song...it was the bomb!! I don’t know how the audience sits still, really!
They borrowed the Lawrence Welk Show audience.
The screaming fangirls phenomena was only in the English speaking world. On the continent they were reserved and followed rules of good behaviour . Maybe the Latin countries expressed.a bit more passion .
@@michaelcorbidge7914 that audience had a stick up their butts and no spirit

The goddamn thing is still headlining rotation on classic rock radio today.
That's an incredible achievement in anyone's book...
George, thanks for all the great wonderful music. You will always rock !

This song is pure gold! Still classic in its sound, style, lyrics, melodies, drum/ guitar notes and timing, cool glam delivery!! Even the title Radar Love...super cool or what?
Radar Love is in the top ten rock-pop records of all time !
Greatest band ever. Caesar’s drumming has always been a huge influence. ❤️
Ever? I love them too, but unfortunately they don’t have enough material. This song is definitely one of the best songs ever though
Should have made billions off of royalties by now with this song.
What a great drummer! There are such strong music traditions in Holland. I'm proud to play in a band there.

Indeed, I always thought Cesar Zuijderwijk played the drums, and they would not need a session drummer at all.
In 78 or 79 they opened for rush, and their drummer lunged over his drums with sticks in hands and started playing the stage, mic stands monitors, etc. My first concert. I thought that was epic. Even better than rush! Blew me away
Always amps me up when I hear this driving, have to watch out or I might get a speeding ticket.
Luckily, where I am, there are at least 4 classic rock stations so I hear it on the radio around twice a week or more.
Brings back so many memories..riding down country roads in our 1973 GTO...
With a few leaves burning, lol
Truly a simple classic. Will stand the test of time and outlast a lot of the crap that is around today
The definitive song of my college days. Mixed emotions here because of the things happening in my life at that time but rest assured I wasn't bored like the audience here.
Fabtastic!
george kooymans you are a very nice man. i wish you all the best.
Best driving beat ever. Got to see them at the Carousel Ballroom in SF. Great show! Drove back to Davis in a ‘61 Mini with 10” wheels about 6” off the road!

Love this song! I don't remember it. But heard it a couple of years ago. Love the drums. Oh. I'm 76.
One of the most classic bass lines in rock history.
Brilliant song loved it for years
Sr in high school. We had great music. Not prefab manufactured shit like now. And there is still a lot I love now
Yep yep! Remember hearing this classic tune playing from 1 of Phoenix Az FM radio stations while playin a of Basketball at a friend's house back then. Still love it now.
My father still calls them Earrings as he has seen them early in the days. Best rock band from the Netherlands ever.
Who’s here cause this song and video are just mind blowing!!! Music these days can’t hold up to this!
God bless you John S, such a sad but also lovely story. I have always thought of this song as so underrated, not only in it's technical changes, but just even the general 'beat', if this was an English band the world would have been going crazy! - Now a strange thing happend not very long ago!!!! My wife and I went to live in Brugge (Bruges as we English say/write it) for almost 5 years, and I couldn't believe it when the dad of one of the (many!) bars we frequented said he knew the band well and was particular friends with the drummer - you cant believe how loud we used to play this track in his bar!!!!! More to follow!
2023 now and this song came out in 1973...About 50 years ago...Seems impossible its been that long....................
GREAT group! cool guys!
Today, 11 March at 17:15 Dutch time (the exact day and time of George's birthday), we're going to play 'Radar Love'.
So wherever you are in the world - join in, till George hears it himself...
Thank you for all the golden moments 🤘

I remember this song well, I was away from home riding my Jeep up a snow covered mountain when this song came on the radio.I told my friend I had to get home. We had just gotten to his aunt's house but I was ready to drive the 200 miles back home I dumped him out,All I could think of was I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's half past four and I'm shifting gear. This was in 74

Lot of people in the comments not understanding that the cool thing in the early 70s was to sit still and listen to bands.
I saw these live many years ago, there was a stunning drum solo when they played this song and the hand controlled spotlights picking out the guitarist as he played were amazing - the lights made him look like he was on fire and this long before technology put computer chips and DMX on stage.
What a song. I’m getting my students to learn this.

De acuerdo!.
If you remember the 70's, you weren't really there!😛lol
I was 18. Jesus, the years have piled up now!!
No better time than the early 70’s to grow up with music! 16 in ‘73 and we had so many artists performing on the same day and usually same stage at fairgrounds and stadiums. All day events that started early and ended late. No drama, no egos just great performers and musicians laying the groundwork for what has become the greatest generation of music that will never be duplicated. The music from 50-60 years ago is still relevant and impactful today and it will be in another 50 years. There are very few real talented musicians today and the crap that gets put out is not music, it’s a product. It’s as manufactured as much as the interchangeable person delivering it is.
This song is amazing!! Drums cool...
They played at the Rivoli in indy in 1976..the stage was set like this..i was sitting on the edge to the left after radar love the drummer threw his sticks up in the air i crawled across the stage n grabbed one...the crowd went nuts..sooo fun
